      Pre8a001 EpA

The first of 2 EPs 2 proceed the next Future Sound Of London album in 2025.

Side A is a deeply moody dark ambient journey through mists of choirs to a place of ritualist electronic beat swamp finally being spat on a leaf suburb road somewhere in Surrey - what just happened !

Side B unlike the previous side this begins far more reflective, as the journey progress it becomes more unsettling once more - a baroque minimalist piece followed by modular synths melding with breaks and drum machine - ambient field recordings , a mesh of carefully gathered and selected samples - FSOL perfection.

PARAISO - The True Spirit Of Ibiza - Selected By DJ Alfredo

In 2022, Daniele “Shield” Contrini of Rebirth Records proposed Paraíso to the great man himself, a compilation honouring Alfredo’s legacy. After Alfredo’s passing in December 2024, the project was final; with artists rallying to honour his vision and memory.

Before becoming a global clubbing hotspot, Ibiza embodied freedom—a place where sunrises blurred into sunsets and music became a way of life. In the 1950s and '60s, the island drew artists, hippies, and outsiders seeking escape and creative liberty.

In 1976, Alfredo Fiorito, fleeing political repression in Argentina, arrived in Ibiza and stayed. A former music journalist, he soon began DJing at Amnesia, a farmhouse-turned-club where time bent and boundaries dissolved. With eclectic, genre-defying sets, Alfredo blended reggae, flamenco, soul, rock, and early house, crafting a hypnotic energy that captivated a generation.

British DJs like Trevor Fung, Paul Oakenfold and Danny Rampling brought this “Balearic Beat” back home. But Balearic wasn’t a style it was a mindset. As DJ Leo Mas said, it was “a state of mind,” where rhythm, spirit, and psychedelia merged.

Other clubs like KU, Es Paradis, Pacha, and Lola’s amplified the movement. Visual artists such as Yves Uro gave it a striking identity, and DJs like César de Melero, DJ Pippi, and Jon Sa Trinxa carried the sound into a new era. José Padilla’s sunset sessions at Café del Mar birthed chill-out music as breath, not just beat.

But the 1990s brought change. Laws requiring roofs on clubs altered the open-air magic. Commercialisation followed; freedom became luxury, and many pioneers left.

Still, the Balearic spirit lives—raw and untamed. It pulses in hidden parties, intimate venues like Pikes and Hostal La Torre, and sacred places like Benirrás and Las Dalias.

Featuring 16 tracks of classic and true Balearic sound; alongside House & proto-House tracks that Mr Fiorito spun, the album also includes an unreleased Alfredo track and stands as a tribute to the man, the music, and the enduring spirit of true Ibiza.

The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild (Original Soundtrack)

Nintendo and Laced Records are linking up to bring the sweeping music of The Legend of Zelda™️: Breath of the Wild to vinyl records. This collaboration marks the first time a Nintendo soundtrack has been commercially released on vinyl outside of Japan.

The unforgettable music of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild introduced bold new musical textures to the series, while embracing classic themes. From the first spine-tingling piano notes of 'Main Theme' to the final choral-orchestral stirrings of 'Epilogue', the soundtrack follows the ups and the downs of Link’s epic adventure. Each element of the game enjoys a distinct musical palette, including the iconic minimalist piano of the open world, the alien sounds of Sheikah technology, the tension-filled rhythms of enemy encounters, and the orchestral grandeur of the Divine Beast battles. The composition team comprised Manaka Kataoka, Yasuaki Iwata, and Hajime Wakai.

This special release showcases the Cork band at their best. 'Grand Parade' is an infectiously upbeat collection of criminally underrated guitar pop. Featuring fan favourites 'Colours' and 'Tony Cochrane'. NME described the album at the time as "the jauntiest and most melodic of joys".

The Frank and Walters formed in Cork in 1990. They rose to prominence in the early 90s achieving chart success.

Groove P / The Shapeshifters / Lost In

                PAP Wax 01

This first outing from the newly minted Pleased As Punch serves up sounds that are packed with the true essence of house. Groove P's 'Are They Real' sets the tone with an infectious underground bounce that's playful and deep, leading in to a new cut from the chart-topping UK crossover stars The Shapeshifters. Bringing their trademark disco-infused flair, 'Body Music' is uplifting and built for the dancefloor. Then, on the flip, Lost In & Arnold Jarvis elevate things further with 'Look Around,' a deeply soulful cut enriched by live instrumentation and Jarvis' unmistakable vocals. Seems like this label is going to be essential for house heads.

                Lincus

                Feel The Rhythm

Lincus is a new name for us, which is always exciting because it means you get to assess the sounds on their own merit with no extraneous baggage. Whoever is behind these betas on Slabs knows how to cook up heavy kicks. 'Feel The Rhythm' has a swagger and syncopation to it that is perfect for this label, with bold bass and hints of Kerri Chandler's kick to the kicks, all run through with some woozy late-night synth work. 'Pazazz' is another blend of low-end kicks and sleazy synths with some filtered vocals adding a touch of human warmth to what is a vibey cut.

                Supreme Dicks

                The Unexamined Life

The debut album from The Supreme Dicks, available on vinyl for the first time.

Falling somewhere between Captain Beefheart, Throbbing Gristle and SALEM in the lineage of musicians who’ve found a muse in the nasty, brutish brevity of life, Supreme Dicks chose to cloak disarmingly real paranoia and grief in the contemporary trappings of late '80s and early '90s lo-fi college rock. They may have inhabited the same sonic and physical space as colleagues like Dinosaur Jr (Lou Barlow was an occasional Dick, and at least one early Dinosaur Jr show was actually played by Dicks in disguise), but they stripped away all youthful yearning and anticipation in favor of a bleak and unblinking certainty. Honest, frank, and free of ironic distance. Obtuse and yet so essential that it can’t help but feel familiar to anyone who’s ever spent a sleepless night wondering whether there's any point to all of this. And, on occasion, warm, intimate and lovely.

The Supreme Dicks formed while students at Massachusetts’ Hampshire College in the twilight of the Reagan era. The campus was a fractured posthippie free-for-all that many students theorized was a right- wing think tank experiment in pitting progressives against each other. The constantly revolving lineup centered around songwriters Daniel Oxenberg and Jon Shere, and whoever else was around and willing to torture an instrument. They advocated the teachings of Wilhelm Reich and were vocal about focusing their creative energy via celibacy. This may do much to explain the constant, unrelenting tension that provides the driving force behind the most powerful moments in their music. Regardless of tempo or arrangement, Supreme Dicks songs play like soundtracks to autoerotic asphyxiation, haunting tones that ring in the ears at the moment consciousness is lost and not guaranteed to return.

                    The London Dirthole Company

                    Modern Ist EP

The giant avalanche that is THE LONDON DIRTHOLE COMPANY is back with another slab of prime-time partisan punk noise. With a Futurist disdain and Dadaist sense of sardonic humour, the MODERN IST EP celebrates the realities of the Family Of Noise as a truly interactive social experiment. The genuinely odd bunch of protagonists that make up the bands personnel stretch the boundaries of conventional group structure and methods. A truly outsider approach that reverberates with its nebulous intensity and spirit of joy. The result is a fractious cacophony created (on this record) by four drummers, 3 guitarists a bass player and 2 different vocalists. Live the band rotate up to a dozen singers if occasion and availability conspire. The music has elements and attitudes in common with The Monks, Velvet Underground, Pussy Galore and The Fall without any direct plagiarism or imitation. These bands are but ships in the night to the Battleship Dirthole and its crew of desperate fellows. PROFESSOR THE CONFESSOR is an intimate memoir of utterances from the dark recesses of The Professor’s mind. CRYING ONIONS is a sleazy ballad of all-consuming pleasure, timeless romance, sensual purgatory, erotic possession, empty tears, disrobing and eating an onion. TOMORROW, TODAY faces up to the bleak realities of a passion consumed and the vagaries of the staring up from the gutter as you watch your former partner dance the same dance you fell for with someone else. The strapping fit and healthy London Dirthole Company pedigree on this recording; The Nuns, Pulkas, Echobelly, Headbutt, Felix Moment Power Trio, Lot Lizards, Project Dark, Headcleaner.

                      Dude York

                      Halftime For The Holidays

The holidays are weird, man. Ostensibly, they’re about family and fun and food and festivities, but more often they portend arguing with your family about politics- and that mental dance you have to do where you’re like “Should I get Trevor a gift even though my funds are dwindling and I’m not even sure if he’s going to get me one in return so this could end up being a whole awkward thing???”

The reality of the holidays lies somewhere more liminal, in the space between joy and depression, between excitement and boredom, between “peace on earth and goodwill toward men” and “I think I might murder my entire family.” So who better to teach us the true reason for the season than Dude York, a band whose music so often seems to exist in an in-between space of their own? Dude York are funny and serious and earnest and deeply ironic all at the same time. The three friends who comprise the band—Peter Richards (guitar, vocals), Claire England (bass, vocals) and Andrew Hall (drums, vocals)—have spent their four years together applying their particular Dude York-ian sensibility to topics like mental health, breakups, and the power of art and friendship.

Now they’ve returned with Halftime for the Holidays to pop some chestnuts right on your fire and tackle their most poignant theme yet; THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR. Halftime for the Holidays is a holiday record for how the holidays actually feel. Tracks like “Takin’ Care of Christmas” (it’s exactly what you think it is) and “Jingle Bells Rock” (it’s not) deliver the requisite tacky cheer. “Greatest Gift is You” and “My Favorite Part (Of This Time of Year)” soar like the greatest pop-punk love songs, with the added benefit of CHRISTMAS. And songs like “Long Distance Christmas” and “Break Up Holiday” testify to the loneliness that they can spring on you without warning. It’s a record that manages to wrap the strangeness of sleeping in your childhood twin bed and the soft wonder of waking up to snow into one delightful white elephant present that you won’t re-gift.

Halftime for the Holidays is self-consciously goofy, but refreshing in its willingness to tackle the misery and joy of the season with equal force. So deck the halls, engage in a regrettable make out session underneath the mistletoe, and rest assured that no matter what kind of reindeer games the universe is playing with you this year, Dude York has you covered.

                        The Primitives

Everything's Shining Bright - The Lazy Recordings 1985-1987

Compiled with guitarist PJ Court, this 2-CD compilation boasts re-mastered music as well as a beautifully annotated booklet boasting rare photos and personal memories from the band.

Back in the mid-80s, The Primitives combined the fuzz guitars of The Jesus & Mary Chain with the pop sensibilities of Blondie and a nod to cult heroes The Velvet Underground. They swiftly rose from being a popular Indie guitar outfit to charting worldwide with “Crash”, kickstarting a craze in bands fronted by blonde female singers (Transvision Vamp, The Darling Buds et al).

Between 1985 and 1987, the band issued five singles/EP’s on independent label Lazy Records (also home to My Bloody Valentine and later Birdland) before signing with RCA.

This 2-CD set also boasts their promo-only live album at the ICA; as such, it offers their entire Lazy output from that period.

                          The Twang

                          Neontwang

‘NEONTWANG’ was recorded in London at Rory Attwell’s Lightship95 with the Warm Brains man on production duties, a combination that has delivered the band’s strongest set of songs to date.

‘NEONTWANG’ also marks the full debut of new member Jon ‘Simmo’ Simkins as a full writing member of The Twang. Simmo was also the brains behind the video for album track ‘The Wobble’ which premiered on The Fly’s website in October who described it as ‘resembling Ariel Pink doing Tears For Fears’.

‘NEONTWANG’ marks an important moment for the band. Their fourth album, lead singer Phil Etheridge described making it as ‘easily the most fun we've had in the studio since before the band got a record deal’. Having lived through (and survived) the slings and arrows of (much) outrageous fortune, the band have found a space where they are back to the core values that have kept them together as a writing unit for over a decade.

‘NEONTWANG’ comprises a series of recordings that encompass light touch balladry, dub, trip hop and sunshine pop. That early leak of ‘The Wobble’ from the album points the way, a track that veers from delicate melody to overdriven industrial noise, it is the perfect pointer for an album that cares only for its own quality. Those who know their music may also note the echo of club culture, a constant driver for the band, in album closer ‘Bywyd Da’, with its reference to Inner City’s club classic ‘Good Life’. Welsh speakers (or users of Google translate) will get the joke.

Gregory And The Hawk returns with her second FatCat album ‘Leche’, a more mature and honest collection of songs than her previous releases, which sees her expanding instrumentally onto piano and harp yet conveying a sense of her bedroom recording roots.

Contributors include Jeremy Backofen (Felice Brothers), Rob Laakso (Amazing Baby, Diamond Nights, Mice Parade, Swirlies), and Adam Pierce (Mice Parade, Swirlies).

                              In The Reins

Iron & Wine's Sam Beam and the members of Calexico convened in December 2004 at Calexico's home base of Wavelab Studios in Tucson, Arizona. The idea of working together had been tossed around for over three years, though neither bands' schedule loaned itself into making it a reality until then. The resulting session "In the Reins", is a mini-album that is a truly harmonious affair sure to satisfy fans of both bands. The seven tracks are Sam Beam originals and were fleshed out by the full Calexico band. The record also features newcomer Natalie Wyants on vocals, Salvador Duran, a local fixture of the Tucson Flamenco scene, on vocals and Botas. Of course no Wavelab experience would be complete without the appearance of Nick Luca (NL Trio/John Doe Band) and Craig Schumacher, both of whom contributed to the record in the form of engineering and performance.

The Rough Guide To Skip James

Skip James was a Delta blues enigma, whose mesmerizing guitar playing and haunting voice produced bluer than blue masterpieces. The Men In The Glass Booth: Part 1

In May 1976 a record was released that would have an unforeseen and lasting impact on the music industry “Ten Percent” by Double Exposure was an early release on the New York independent label Salsoul Records. America was in the grip of a disco explosion with new clubs opening on a weekly basis; Salsoul saw what was happening and swiftly created a sound for their label, heavily influenced by the music then coming out of Philadelphia, aimed directly at New York’s dance-floors. Records like “Salsoul Hustle,” “Tangerine” and “You’re Just The Right Size” by The Salsoul Orchestra borrowed heavily from the beautifully orchestrated Philadelphia International records but added a more percussive, bass heavy depth that New York’s DJs loved. So what was so special about this particular single then? Double Exposure was, after all, just another band, “Ten Percent” just another song; one of many “disco” records released that week. First of all Salsoul became the first record label to make a twelve inch single available to Joe Public - the exotic format was previously only available to DJs as promotional items or bought under the counter at certain record stores. Not only that though, the extended version was created by Walter Gibbons, a DJ at New York’s Galaxy 21 who’d built his reputation making exclusive versions of tracks to play in his sets.

In 1976 it was unheard of for a DJ to set foot in a recording studio, being seen as little more than living jukeboxes by the serious music industry. Recording studios were strictly the domain of recording artists and producers so Walter found himself in a unique position, gaining access to a world no DJ had been granted before.

                                    Or so we thought...
The Men In The Glass Booth tells the full story. Featuring ground breaking re-edits and remixes by some of the Disco era's most influential DJs including Walter Gibbons, Bobby DJ Guttadaro, Tom Savarese, Jellybean Benitez, Tee Scott and John Luongo, this opulent release also includes a 40 page book which features exclusive photos and insights from some of the story's key figures.

Don Rendell And Ian Carr Quintet

                                    The Complete Lansdowne Recordings, 1965-1969

After an epic licensing odyssey that's taken us almost 20 years, we're finally able to announce the 5LP boxset release of the first ever official re-issue of all five of the iconic Lansdowne recording sessions by the legendary UK jazz combo, the Don Rendell/Ian Carr Quintet.
The five albums; Shades Of Blues (1965), Dusk Fire (1966), Phase III (1968), Change Is (1969) and Live (1969), have reached almost mythical status in the collector's world. Regarded as holy grail artefacts for even the seasoned aficionado, the collective second hand market value comes to an astonishing £6000.
Many have tried - and failed - to reissue these albums by legitimate means. However, two decades since our initial approach, Universal Music has gone to great lengths to research their vast archives, and we have finally managed to succeed.
The complete Don Rendell & Ian Carr Lansdowne recording sessions have now undergone a full and unprecedented boxset reissue. We located and acquired the original analogue master tapes from the Universal vaults and created masters at Abbey Road Studios to produce audiophile quality 180g pressings replete with replica artwork - shape, design, and even paper stock. No stone has been left unturned to deliver this absolute labour of love to the highest possible standard! The enclosed booklet contains never before seen photographs, interviews with the remaining living band members and liner notes from BBC Radio 3 presenter and award-winning jazz writer Alyn Shipton.
The band played together for seven years and during this fruitful time they made a plethora of deeply melodic, post-bop British jazz compositions that later on took influences from Indo and more spiritually guided jazz. Produced by the influential Denis Preston and recorded at his Lansdowne Studios in London, the band was primarily made up of saxophonist Don Rendell, trumpeter/composer Ian Carr, and pianist/composer Michael Garrick. This is UK jazz at its absolute finest, and the quality of our box set pays testament to that.

                                    Timothy J. Fairplay

Pathfinder Theme / UFOs Over China

Timothy J Fairplay is back on the label with a 7” single containing two tracks cut from a rock of uranium. “Pathfinder Theme” and “UFO’s Over China” might differ in sound and tempo but are connected by a radiant feeling. The two tracks bathes in a greenish/yellow bright toxic aura.

This plutonium charged music carries with it some quality elements known from his earlier repertoire like for example a primitive yet crisp beat working as foundation to a few but very exquisite synth sounds.

Timothy J. Fairplay stands on the shoulders of past Italian masters and the works of John Carpenter but with an accentuated alien feel. Something otherworldly, maybe good, maybe harmful, is hidden in the vibe on both sides of this 7”. The balance between good and evil is very even - yin/yang from outer space!

                                      The Goa Express

Debut album from The Goa Express, led by Clarkey alongside his brother Joe and best friends Joey, Naham and Sam.

They met as young teenagers in Burnley - growing up in the rural shadow of England's industrial north, music was a means of escape and a vessel for friendship. Their shared adolescent experiences shaped their collective attitudes and behaviours and, ultimately, the sound and spirit of their band. 6music playlists and Radio 1 support has followed along with a heavy touring schedule.

                                        The Clocks - 2026 Reissue

‘The Clocks' was originally issued in 2007 as a CD-only limited edition of 110 for members of 'The Bevis Frond Online Community'. It comprised 19 previously unissued tracks. Most of these were home demos featuring just Frond frontman Nick Saloman on all instruments and vocals. Since then, it has never been re-issued in any format. It is therefore with great pleasure that Blue Matter are re-issuing it for the first time, and now as a vinyl double album and limited CD. Due to certain circumstances, three of the original tracks could not be used, so these have been replaced these with another three previously unheard tracks from Nick Saloman's extensive archives. These songs include the seven minute 'She's Taken It All', originally intended for 2004's 'Hit Squad' album but dropped at the last minute due to timing constraints. The beautiful 'You Better Make Do' and the edgy 'Devil Doll' have also been added. We are delighted to be able to make this 'long lost' album available once again and think it will be a welcome addition to the Bevis Frond canon.

                                          Charanjit Singh

Synthesizing: Ten Ragas To A Disco Beat - 2026 Reissue

Light in the Attic is honored to announce the long-awaited reissue of Synthesizing: Ten Ragas to a Disco Beat, the revolutionary 1982 album from composer and musician Charanjit Singh. Pairing Indian classical ragas with then-state-of-the-art Roland synthesizers and drum machines, Singh created an electronic masterpiece that was far ahead of its time.

Recording live at Mumbai’s HMV studios, Singh married the past to the future—blending the ancient Indian tradition of ragas (a melodic framework, similar to a scale, from which musicians can improvise or compose) with pulsating, electronic dance beats. Released without fanfare, it faded into obscurity and Singh retired from recording to focus on private concerts, but that’s where the story begins…

Released in cooperation with Singh’s estate, Synthesizing: Ten Ragas to a Disco Beat arrives on June 26th. The 10-track album was remastered by Johanz Westerman at Ballyhoo Studio Mastering and stretched across 2-LPs for the highest quality listening experience. The vinyl was pressed at Optimal Media and housed in a gatefold jacket that replicates the original artwork.
An accompanying 16-page LP booklet features previously-unreleased photos and two new essays: the first from Arshia Fatima Haq and Jeremy Loudenback of Discostan—a multimedia collective and record label focusing on music from South West Asia and North Africa—while the other comes from filmmaker and writer Rana Ghose of event and film production entity REProduce Artists, who managed Singh in his final years and documented his triumphant return to the stage. Simon Reynolds

Still In A Dream: Shoegaze, Slackers And The Reinvention Of Rock, 1984–1994

The definitive story of the slackers and shoegazers who reinvented rock.

Twenty years after his acclaimed postpunk best-seller, Rip It Up and Start Again, Simon Reynolds tells the tale of what happened next: the underground explosion of noisepop, shoegaze, slacker rock and grunge that reverberated through the late Eighties into the early Nineties.

Capturing the musical exhilaration of the era along with the alienation of youth during a period of ascendant conservative politics and glitzy mainstream pop, Still in a Dream celebrates a golden age of guitar reinvention, a second psychedelia of mind-blowing sounds pioneered by bands like My Bloody Valentine and Sonic Youth. In Britain, groups like Cocteau Twins and Slowdive escaped into shimmering dreamworlds while American underground rockers like Dinosaur Jr. and Pavement blended apathy and urgency into thrilling noise.

A propulsive and personal account from a journalist who covered this music in real time from the frontlines, Still in a Dream vividly recreates a period that was the last blast for the analogue culture of vinyl records and music papers, before the Internet changed everything.

                                              Michael Bracewell

                                              The Smiths

I am sure that what I remember is not necessarily what actually happened, but I can only write what I remember. Wildly inventive and magnificently surreal, The Smiths: A Novella recounts the impact of an unconventional pop group from Manchester on one man's life. Taking the form of a flâneuring journey through the landscape of memory, our anonymous protagonist is accompanied by the iconic French actress Carole Bouquet, who becomes his guide and interlocutor, asking about his life during the years The Smiths were together and the profound effect of their music upon him.

As the unlikely couple perambulate from the old Selfridge Hotel to West Hollywood by way of a park bench in Cavendish Square, their conversation interrogates and celebrates the joys of outlandish pop genius, the zealous dedication of fans and the cult of outsider disaffection given uproarious voice. As such, this is not a book about The Smiths but one that emerges from their music, their emotional register and their literary resonance. Michael Bracewell's novella cum-fairy tale is at once deeply romantic and laced with comedy - not unlike the band themselves - and perhaps (in fictional form) the most astute and celebratory portrait of The Smiths to date.

I’ve always felt, if something is worth doing, it’s worth doing right, and every step of the process was made with this philosophy firmly in mind. I had fun locating and resurrecting these songs, some of which still feel close to my consciousness as though they were made yesterday.”

                                                    Claire Manumission

The Motel : High Times In 90s Ibiza

The deliciously hedonistic autobiography of Claire Manumission - the club promoter, performer and mastermind behind Ibiza’s most iconic club nights. The most intriguing part of Manumission, Ibiza’s most notorious club night, is that if anyone else told you the story, you would scarcely believe them. Claire Manumission however, one half of the boundary-pushing duo behind the scenes, remembers it all.

In all of its decadent glory. This is the story – her story - of the club that changed the scene forever. The Motel: High Times in 90s Ibiza expertly navigates the cast of 1.5 million guests – from supermodels and superstar DJs, rock royalty and Hollywood A-listers - that passed through its doors and delivers a story through raucous, jaw-dropping anecdotes that capture an incredibly unique point in time, place and culture.

It is only right that Manumission gets to tell this story; With her partner Mike, she re-wrote party history by creating a brand new space for it to happen in. And, for once, it is a corner of cultural history seen from the perspective of a woman who tilted club life on its axis. The afterglow of “Brat Summer” demonstrates that people yearn for either the nostalgia or the lifestyle that Manumission helped curate during her career.

Youth culture today is a high-execution homage to the 90s club scene - only, of course, more Insta-friendly. This book will be the catalyst that relaunches Manumission back into the public conscious whilst evolving their legacy for future generations. Nearly two decades after the club’s last party, interest has never been higher as to just what shocking acts happened behind its doors.

It can’t all be true. Can it? Submit to Claire Manumission as she unleashes a candid, shocking and empowered tell-all from the epicentre of global youth culture. Strap yourself in.

Journey’s End - Siouxsie And The Banshees 1987-1996

With Jon Klein and Martin McCarrick now full-blown members, Siouxsie and The Banshees embarkon one of its most creative and ambitious odysseys, culminating in the multi-dimensional complexities of the 1988 album 'Peepshow'. Both lyricallyand musically, the Banshees continue to confound expectation with their progressively sophisticated and erudite artistry, yielding the groundbreaking single ‘Peek-A-Boo’ and propelling the Banshees to number one on the American Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart. Live, the Banshees continue to be a breathtaking entity; the theatricality of their stage shows paralleling the grandiosity of their songs.

However, the revolving door of personnel changes again threatens to derail the band, this time in the form of their (mis)management, until Tim Collins starts to unpick and stabilise the Banshees’ shambolic financial affairs. Amplifying the strained relations, the first major rupture between founder members Siouxsie and Steven Severin, while on tour, leads to the Banshees’ hiatus between the end of the Peepshow gigs in December 1988 and the release of ‘Kiss Them For Me’ in May 1991, reaching the Modern Rock Tracks number one slot for the second time; a noticeable divergence from their volatile chart fortunes in the UK. There is a resurgence of The Creatures’ activity, and the album 'Boomerang' is released in 1989.

At the same time, Severin composes the film score for director Nigel Wingrove’s Visions Of Ecstasy film. Invited to play the inaugural Lollapalooza tour in July and August 1991 alongside bands such as Nine Inch Nails, Jane’s Addiction and Butthole Surfers, the Banshees consolidate their growing popularity in the USA and go down a storm! Convening for two more studio albums, 'Superstition' (1991) and 'The Rapture' (1995), as well as the 1992 'Twice Upon A Time:The Singles' compilation album, the Banshees go to Hollywood, co-writing thesong ‘Face To Face’ with composer Danny Efman for the 1992 Tim Burton-directed film Batman Returns. With tranches of time between activities becoming increasingly prolonged, it begs the question: have Siouxsie and The Banshees, a band that have stayed the course against often insurmountable odds since 1976, finally reached their journey’s end?

                                                        Coup Dur

                                                        The English Want…Coup Dur

The International Pop Underground is alive and well and living at Precious Recordings of London! The newest additions to the label fold are Coup Dur, a yé-yé-flavoured Belgian-French trio born after the internet.

Formed in late 2024 and based between Brussels, Strasbourg and Antwerp, the group features Avril De Broucker (Lavomatic) on guitar, Clémence D’Hulst (Fake Empire) on bass and César Laloux (Ada Oda) on drums.

With their sparkling, tender French songs tinged with acid romanticism and garage rock accents, the band invites us to do the twist amid an era of doomscrolling, bad dates with egotists, Basic-Fit centres and online masterclasses on how to become a serial entrepreneur. France Gall would be delighted by their indie take on a beloved 60s genre.

‘Mon Amie’, which focuses on the fantasy of a friendly break-up, offers an accurate representation of the group’s playful pop stylings. Expect more of the same on their fantastic eight-song EP, written between February and April 2025, then recorded and mixed in just two days by Rafael ‘Tuff Guac’ Valles Hilario in Antwerp.

A founding gesture, concise and carried out with urgency, reflecting the music it produces: direct, spontaneous, without detours or superfluity. The title of the EP echoes the band’s amusement – and astonishment – at seeing this first record released on an English label, Precious Recordings of London.

We really do want Coup Dur!

                                                          The Secret To Good Living

NYC-based indie rockers Hiding Places release their debut LP, 'The Secret to Good Living'. Refined through years of live performance and studio work, their debut LP is the first in their catalog recorded together in a professional studio, instead of in their separate home bases.

Originally hailing from North Carolina and Georgia, the band includes Audrey Keelin (vocals, guitar), Nicholas Byrne (vocals, guitar), Henry Cutting (drums), and Michael Matsikis (bass, production). Together, they’ve developed a forward-thinking sound with a sense of nostalgia built into it: a blend that draws from the collage-like indie rock of Yo La Tengo, the elegant slowcore of The New Year, the riffy story-songs of Drive-By Truckers, and the analog hum of The Microphones.

'The Secret to Good Living' helps translate their humble beginnings to the big stages for which they seem destined. It’s the product of hermetic late-night sessions, collaborative writing retreats in Athens, Georgia, and an evolving perspective on their singular dynamic. After years of working remotely, this record marks the collective result of the quartet living together in a city for the first time—an experience that amplified the band’s creative bond and connected them with fellow North Carolina transplants in the city.

                                                            Compassion

Buoyed by the joy of creating their 2022 album - 'Confidence' - The Hoosiers are swaggering back through the saloon doors of the music industry with both barrels locked and loaded. Armed with their sixth album, Irwin Sparkes & Alan Sharland pick up where they left off; honing a more adult take on the jubilant sound that made a name for them back in 2007. Reflections between the duo probed the question of why even bother to make an album - at considerable cost - in an age with scant regard for the form? “The conversation that had been picked up with fans following 'Confidence' had taken on a momentum of its own and we were compelled not to lose something so valuable”, says Irwin. With 'Compassion', Al & Irwin wished to imbue the listener with this new-found sense of self-belief in what they do and who they are. This time the question of how to focus the album was handled in a novel way: “Releasing an album into the world is like releasing your intentions so we wanted to approach it as if we had a genie offering us one wish”, says Al Sharland. “On a personal and political level, it’s apparent that we could all do with more compassion."

"The way we talk to ourselves influencing how we talk to each other and thereby creating the world in which we live; this tied together the songs already written (‘Everybody Is A Little More Broken Than They Pretend To Be’, and ‘Don’t Hang Your Head’) with those that would be written with the concept of compassion in mind (‘Permission To Rest’). Perhaps where compassion is needed the most is when it comes to people who don’t share our values and this is what the title track ‘Compassion’ is grappling with. We love playing in this band more than ever and we feel so loved by the fans we have and this album is a big, stanky hug back to them”, clarifies Irwin. “We don’t just want to leave the world with better music than when we found it”, winks Al, “we want to leave it a more confident, compassionate spinning orb.

Captured at Forest Hills Stadium on August 2, 2025, this release leans fully into the playful maximalism that’s come to define label Bootlegger outings—where the object is as much the experience as the music. Pressed as a full-colour picture disc, Side A is a pepperoni pizza, Side B a heaping plate of spaghetti and meatballs. The accompanying flexi adds a light appetizer—Caesar salad and garlic bread—and yes, it all arrives with a custom napkin, because details matter.

This began an illustrious career that has seen him work with artists including Bruce Springsteen, Diana Ross, the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Al Green, Pet Shop Boys, Quincy Jones, New Order, New Edition, Hall & Oates, Neneh Cherry and Damon Albarn. Looking for the Perfect Beat will tell Arthur's unique and inspiring story in his own words and features unheard stories about many of the world's best and most successful musicial figures, which together form a portrait of a man who has been quietly influencing the sound of popular music for over fifty years.

How the iconic publication's unruly first decade rewrote the rules of journalism. Rolling Stone's first decade was truly rock and roll: chaotic, wild, and unpredictable. Brand New Beat charts the origins and evolution of the magazine during its formative early years in San Francisco. Founded in 1967 by a 21-year-old college dropout, Rolling Stone and its editors were steeped in the Bay Area's counterculture and viewed rock and roll as the animating spirit of a social revolution.

Reaching beyond music, the magazine delved into the tempestuous culture and politics of the time. Acclaimed author Peter Richardson takes readers inside the iconic magazine during an era of legendary events, major cultural figures, and unforgettable music. Showing how Rolling Stone became a journalistic juggernaut—nurturing music-focused writers like Cameron Crowe, Lester Bangs, and Greil Marcus as well as New Journalism giants Hunter S.

Thompson and Tom Wolfe—this book reveals how Rolling Stone both exemplified and critiqued the counterculture. Always more than the definitive rock magazine, Rolling Stone leveraged the power of popular music to deliver groundbreaking coverage of historic events, setting a new standard for the next generation of American journalism.

                                                                      Broken Social Scene

                                                                      Remember The Humans

Marking their first new studio album in nearly a decade, 'Remember The Humans' reunites the Toronto collective with producer David Newfeld, who helmed their breakthrough 'You Forgot It in People' (2002) and self-titled 2005 album. Across the 12 tracks the arrangements are dense and enveloping - a lattice of horns, guitars, voices, and electronics - yet melody always remains sovereign, refusing to be swallowed by the sheer sound. When the music drifts towards abstraction, a grounding bass line arrives to anchor the listener, reminding us always that there are human hands on the controls and that, however artful, this is still rock and roll. As ever, Broken Social Scene operates less as a band than as a community and songs evolve by ceding control to whoever can best carry them forward in the moment. Drew may be the designated driver, but collaborators on 'Remember the Humans', including Hannah Georgas, Lisa Lobsinger, and Feist, step into the foreground throughout the record, shaping songs with a sense of collective authorship that has always defined the group’s ethos.

Marking the 20 year anniversary of 'Age of Winters', this new edition elevates an already impossibly high mark from The Sword’s early canon. Newly remastered by Dan Coutant at Sun Room Audio, this anniversary edition accents and amplifies a modern metal classic.

                                                                          The Ruins Of Things Unfinished

Slow Leaves is the solo project of Winnipeg-based songwriter and producer Grant Davidson, whose work blends folk and psych-rock with an understated emotional precision.

'The Ruins of Things Unfinished' is Davidson’s sixth full-length album of new material and his most immediate recording to date. Tracked largely live off the floor with producer Kris Ulrich, the album captures the intimacy and emotional weight of Slow Leaves’ songwriting with a new sense of presence and warmth. The record explores inherited trauma, ambition, parenthood, and the quiet work of self-reckoning, drawing its title from Fernando Pessoa’s line, “I am composed of the ruins of things unfinished.”

                                                                            TRACK LISTING

                                                                            Dim Sum & Then Some

Chinese American Bear return in 2026 with their third album, 'Dim Sum & Then Some', via cult UK label Moshi Moshi.

“'Dim Sum & Then Some' was started the day after we finished our 2024 album 'Wah!!!'. We were having a lot of fun and inspiration was still high,” the band explain. “The album explores themes around what we love—food, little joys, fun simple nonsense, China, love, anthems, and fairytales. It’s a collage of our life, distilled into positivity and lightheartedness.”

Often described as The Flaming Lips, Dusty Springfield, and The Beach Boys having a baby with a Care Bear, Chinese American Bear’s music is bursting with comedy, groove, quirk, and cuteness. 'Dim Sum & Then Some' is melodically rich and joyfully maximalist, weaving together psychedelia, doses of funk, and lush instrumentation, with plenty of lyrics devoted to the simple pleasure of filling up your belly with good food.

                                                                              Dancing On The Wall

MUNA’s journey has always been about holding space for the complex, messy, ecstatic realities of life, and with their fourth album, 'Dancing On The Wall', they’ve never been sharper, darker, or more exhilarating. Emerging from the sparkly, confetti-strewn heights of their 2022 self-titled record, MUNA now channel the anxious, uncertain energy of living in a Los Angeles defined by political tension, environmental decay, and the quiet pressures of millennial precarity. The result is a record that feels both intimate and spectacular, a pop world built with teeth, wit, and emotional resonance, a soundtrack for hearts simultaneously on fire and observing the chaos around them. Across the record, MUNA explores desire, intimay, and connection against a backdrop of a world in flux. There’s a quiet reckoning throughout the album with how to keep living, loving, and reaching for one another while bearing witness to political brutality and systemic violence and how joy survives without denial. Tracks like 'Wannabeher' capture the dizzying thrill of stepping fully into someone else’s fantasy, while 'Why Do I Get A Good Feeling' lingers long after the beat ends, a meditation on fleeting joy and suspended possibilities. The album closes with 'Buzzkiller', a stark reckoning with desire and its aftermath, the ache of achieving what you wanted only to realise new questions, doubts, and hungers remain. Their previous work, including the viral hit 'Silk Chiffon', has earned hundreds of millions of streams and widespread acclaim, alongside TV appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The Late Late Show with James Corden, Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and Good Morning America. The band also maintains a devoted following across TikTok, Instagram, and Spotify.

The record is produced by Naomi McPherson, with their trademark attention to detail blending effortlessly with bandmate Josette Maskin’s well-honed behind-the-scenes pop technique to create living, breathing worlds for lead singer Katie Gavin’s incisive lyricism and signature voice. 'Dancing On The Wall' blends euphoric sonic landscapes with sharp, human storytelling. The album reflects a fiercely self-directed creative process, one shaped by instinct, trust, and total artistic control. It feels lived-in, urgent, and cinematic, a reflection of a generation navigating uncertainty while refusing to let go of joy. With this album, MUNA proves once again that pop can be daring, intimate, and socially conscious all at once: a record that doesn’t just capture the moment, but distills it into a world you want to inhabit.

With hooky choruses, maximalist arrangements and “apocalyptic bongos,” 'The Afterparty' asks the eternal question. It’s 4am: can we have one last euphoric dance before the hangover crushes us? Featuring a limited vinyl with a transparent printed outer sleeve and exclusive stunning 20-page insert, it’s as much a visual artifact as it is a sonic one.

For two decades, Gun Outfit has been a band defined less by genre than by continuity, patience, and a commitment to making music that reflects their lived experience.

Formed in Olympia, Washington in 2006 but long since rooted in Los Angeles, the group has evolved from a raw duo into a quietly formidable five-piece, their sound growing from scrappy post-punk beginnings into something spacious yet intimate, and always underpinned by an experimental edge.

On 'Process & Reality', Gun Outfit return with their most ambitious and immersive work to-date, a sprawling 80-minute double album shaped by time, environment, and philosophy. Recorded over the course of a single month in the late summer of 2020, on an 80-acre ranch in Pine Flat, California, while a massive forest fire burned less than ten miles away, the seeds of these songs were stark and strange.

Its title, 'Process & Reality', draws from the central work of philosopher Alfred North Whitehead, whose philosophy places intuition, experience, creativity, and relationality at the center of existence.

The band’s current lineup reflects both longevity and openness. Sharp and Keith remain the band’s primary architects, joined by longtime drummer Daniel Swire, multi-instrumentalist Henry Barnes, and bassist Kayla Cohen. Additional collaborators include Chris Cohen, Warren Lee, and Danny Sasaki all of whom add further depth, leaving subtle fingerprints across the album.

Musically, the album expands the band’s palette without abandoning its core sensibility. Dulcimer, autoharp, sitar, melodica, keyboards, homemade electronics, and a wide range of acoustic and electric textures appear throughout. The sound is mellow yet expansive, songs move between fragility and hefty atmospheric passages.

Influences surface obliquely rather than overtly. Elements of reggae and dub inform the production’s spatial sensibility. Echoes of long-form European jam bands coexist with sharp post-punk. British folk traditions, American country, and classic West Coast songwriting drift in and out of focus; the band is never afraid to lead or follow.

Glenn Underground is the founding member of the Strictly Jaz Unit. He was raised on disco classics and freeform jazz in Chicago's Southside, the place where house music was born. Taking inspiration from Chicago's original pioneers, Larry Heard, Ron Hardy, Lil' Louis, and the like, Glenn has produced many sought after house gems for some of the most well respected deep house labels such as Prescription and Guidance.

'The Jerusalem EP's', GU's second album for Peacefrog originally released in 1997 still sounds so fresh, so deep and so soulful. Blending jazz-tinged chord progressions with sax accents, and rolling basslines the album evokes the sound of late-’90s hypnotic Chicago house.

Timeless, quality, underground house music for the mind, the body and especially the soul.

                                                                                      In Spite Of Everything

May Day 2026 welcomes the release of The Boo Radley's third album since they got back together at the start of this decade.

'IN SPITE OF EVERYTHING' is their ninth record since forming in Wallasey back in 1988.

It was their third album, 1993's 'Giant Steps', that announced them as genuine visionaries, fusing shoegaze with psychedelia, dub reggae, jazz, and Beach Boys-influenced harmonies. 1995's chart-topping follow up, 'Wake Up!' featured the inescapable sound of that Britpop Summer that was 'Wake Up Boo!'

Continuing on from the comeback album, 'Keep On With Falling'(2002), and its follow-up , 'Eight' (2023), the new album from the iconic British alternative rock trio is a defiant statement of perseverance and creative survival from a band that has weathered industry indifference, lineup changes, and two decades of separation. Fans can expect the band to continue their trajectory of experimentation balanced with the melodic sophistication that has defined their best work.

The Black Keys 'Peaches!' is the Akron duo’s fourteenth studio album (their sixth since 2019), a visceral and raw 10-song collection described by singer Dan Auerbach as the band’s “most natural record” since their 2002 debut, 'The Big Come Up'. In similar DIY spirit, the album was recorded with all musicians playing in the same room with few overdubs, and is the first record mixed entirely by the band themselves since 2006’s 'Magic Potion'. The songs chosen reflect Auerbach and bandmate Patrick Carney’s obsessive record-collecting habit, which in recent years has escalated into an ongoing series of Record Hang DJ-set dance parties where they spin vintage 45s for packed, high-energy dancefloors in the coolest spots across the globe.

The cover art for 'Peaches!' is based around an iconic image from Memphis-born photographer, William Eggleston, and marks the return of Patrick’s brother, Michael Carney, overseeing the art direction.

                                                                                          Theft World

Lip Critic’s 2024 Partisan debut 'Hex Dealer' was one of the most-hyped experimental releases of that year (“Like the B-52s on ketamine” -Paste) and signaled the Brooklyn band’s arrival as a borderline-batshit creative force. 'Theft World' is their next chapter, built again from the chaos of two drummers locked in psychic combat, a sampler that sounds like it was struck by lightning, and frontman Bret Kaser’s paranoid preacher energy.

But where 'Hex Dealer' leapt from one absurdist vignette to the next, 'Theft World' plays like a fully locked-in transmission. Themes orbit around the concept of theft, not just as a political force or digital dilemma, but as a surreal, emotional constant. Club rhythms and hardcore breakdowns pull as much from Tyler the Creator’s ‘Igor’ and Korn as they do Skrillex and Soul Coughing, coming together to soundtrack a world that’s constantly being striped apart and resold.

Initially released as a standalone single in the summer of 1979, 'Boys Don’t Cry' became the title track of the US edition of the band’s debut album, 'Three Imaginary Boys'.

The song went on to become one of the band’s signature tracks and achieved international success in 1986, when Robert Smith re-recorded the vocal and remixed the backing track. Although this new version was created to promote the best of collection 'Staring At The Sea – The Singles', the LP itself featured the original recording, and the 7-inch version of 'Boys Don’t Cry (New Voice – New Mix)', now retitled 'Boys Don’t Cry (86 Mix)', is being released for the first time in 40 years.

YoshimiO, OOIOO’s founder and bandleader, has been a guiding force in uncompromising art across the continuum of rock and improvised music for four decades, from her work in UFO or Die to The Boredoms to SAICOBAB and beyond. OOIOO serves as a core outlet for melding freeform experimentalism with hypnotic rock pulses, defying boundaries with her acrobatic voice, electronics, trumpet and gamelan. Lightning Bolt’s Brian Chippendale and Brian Gibson have remained unparalleled in their ability to transmute frenetic whirls of percussion, gargantuan fuzz and dizzying melody into monolithic vistas. 'THE HORIZON SPIRALS / THE HORIZON VIRAL' is a split that captures the parallels in ethos between these two ensembles, their sense of gleeful abandon and freight train momentum, in inspiring detail. 'THE HORIZON SPIRALS', composed of OOIOO’s gamelan-infused sagas 'THE HORIZON' and 'Gamel BE SURE TO SPIRAL' demonstrates the boundless scope of OOIOO’s music. YoshimiO explains a core contrast between these pieces and 2014’s 'Gamel lays' in the physical materials used: “Back then in Bali, bronze-keyed gamelan were mainstream, and GAMEL uses bronze. THE HORIZON SPIRALS' gamelan is iron. Black-painted iron. This time, incorporating Koheysai's iron sound (iron gamelan) allowed us to see OOIOO's songs spiraling upward with greater lightness. Lightning Bolt’s 'THE HORIZON VIRAL' evokes the limitlessness of their improvisations and distills through more sophisticated home recording techniques. 'THE HORIZON VIRAL' reignites the flame of their storied home recordings, capturing the duo in full freeform, bolstered from bassist Brian Gibson’s experiences composing and recording soundtracks for video games he co-designed, Thrasher and Thumper.

The five piece, comprising Carolyn Hawkins, Claudia Serfaty, Charlotte Zarb, Freya McLeod and Matt Powell, quickly set to work writing winsome, DIY, shimmer-pop hits that careen through your mind in a gratifying dizzy rush.

With a clear collective vision and little time to waste, Season 2 spent 2025 writing and recording, appearing live only a handful of times. Finally, this April, the band are primed for their debut release, a full-length album entitled 'Power of Now'. ‘Power of Now ‘is a cerebral explosion of melody, hooks, drones and rhythm. In the vein of The Feelies, The Vaselines and The Clean, Season 2 have whipped up a sonic whirlwind. It's a giddy thrill of snappy slap, catchy gang vocals and crystalline guitar refrains.

'Abundance of Power' is a bittersweet bop of ponderous bass, crisp chord flashes and grounded vocals that dwell on slighted futures and bored realities. 'Becomes a Dream' is a delirious race of scrappy strumming and flying phrases that unsettle as much as they pinball endorphins - "pour the ink into the sand, watch the dog it bites the hand". "Tell me something, elbows on the table, I'll tell you nothing, leave you tugging at the cable" they sing on the peppy future single 'Tugging at the Cable', capturing a certain innocent, wide-eyed expressiveness. Season 2 do sparky well, their songs are instant rewards, tunnelling into your subconscious and testing the dance floor. They keep everything moving, the beat and the conversation. Season 2 sound barely controlled and all the better for it, you have no choice but to be swept up.

It will be released digitally and on LP (black vinyl) on April 24th, internationally via Upset The Rhythm and locally in Australia by Spoilsport Records.

                                                                                                        Acknowledge Kindness

'Acknowledge Kindness' expands The Reds, Pinks And Purples’ distinctive brand of emotional pop, music built for the quiet hours and the restless mind. Evolving naturally from the heavier, melancholic indie rock of previous releases, the mood here feels more exposed and reflective, blossoming into lush dreamscapes that recall the bittersweet sorrow of The Cure or the tenderly gloomy transcendence of California by American Music Club.

Created from a new headspace, the album finds Glenn Donaldson observing both the present and the weight of what came before it. Songs lean into a deeper sense of nostalgia, allowing him to look back with intent and revisit moments that once carried a sting.

Donaldson comments: “This album is probably about learning to live with your ghosts and trying to be alive in the present. There’s a certain kind of big sounding record I aspire to make, like California by American Music Club or 16-Lover's Lane by The Go-Betweens, works that steer into the pain but become a transportational device for the listener.”

Donaldson’s vocals are captured in high fidelity, raw and immediate, with lyrical abstraction underpinned by chiming acoustic guitars and achingly beautiful piano.

‘New Leaf’ teases with a perpetual guitar line plucking at the heartstrings while a sub-melody cushions Donaldson’s musings. ‘Heaven of Love’ tackles cynicism with positive energy as it tumbles into a glorious chorus, while the guitars on ‘Worthy of Love’ chime dutifully as it dispels heavy memories and heads for a better place. Two plush instrumentals, the winsome ‘Blue Heron Lake’ and the symphonic title track, sound like Eno post Roxy pre ambient or Felt without words.

Having written more than 200 songs and released nine albums in just six years, Glenn Donaldson has shaped a distinctive songwriting world rooted in emotional clarity and romanticised wonder.

Across its 11 tracks, 'Acknowledge Kindness' expands The Reds, Pinks And Purples’ emotional and sonic panorama, with Donaldson’s ongoing world-building remaining both warmly nostalgic and strikingly original.

When Ekko Astral dropped their searing debut 'Pink Balloons' in 2024, it would be another year and change before Trump took office and deployed the National Guard to Washington, D.C. Recorded immediately after the 2024 U.S. General Election, Ekko Astral’s second album 'The Beltway Is Burning' was always intended as a real-time historical document in the form of a dark comedy. Each song plays out like a vignette, with Ekko Astral beckoning listeners into their fictionalized version of The Beltway, in which Adam Sandler is a god-president and the DMV has become a demilitarized zone, a wasteland run by butt rockers and Soundcloud rappers. On the surrealist lead single 'Lil Xan Goes To Washington', the titular character travels to D.C. to lobby for addiction assistance legislation before succumbing to the cartoonish horror that is K Street, ultimately becoming a sellout himself. Such noisy, absurd caricatures abound on beltway, whose anchors are simultaneously heavier, poppier, and more complex than on predecessor pink balloons. Take the album’s pop diamond 'Lovesick American Romance': a 90s rock-indebted anthem that snarls at mainstream culture’s embrace of the manosphere. And then there’s the album’s centerpiece, 'This Is Not A Call To Action But A Lamentation On The Situation At Hand (Or, Capital Riot)', which sees the band take an entirely new direction in a stretched-out, climactic barn-burner that invites listeners into the band’s funhouse version of D.C. Where 'Pink Balloons' was written to uplift, 'The Beltway Is Burning' is meant to remind you of the stakes. On penultimate track 'Blood Mountain', Holzman asks “if I don’t know what’s wrong / how can it be righted?” This kind of tension is omnipresent in Ekko Astral’s work, grounding beltway in our present reality, injecting urgency and realism into each song despite their surrealist contours.

Metric’s relentless pursuit of timeless songwriting and fiercely independent ethos have cemented their place as one of the most essential and ahead-of-the-curve bands of the last two decades. The trailblazing Toronto outfit was founded by songwriting and production partners Emily Haines and Jimmy Shaw, along with bandmates Joshua Winstead and Joules Scott Key. Though both were also founding members of the influential and sprawling Canadian indie rock outfit Broken Social Scene, Metric was always the top priority, and shortly after they met and cemented their mission, they left Toronto for New York in search of like-minded artists. There, they found themselves at the center of the city’s burgeoning indie sleaze scene alongside bands like LCD Soundsystem, The Strokes, TV On the Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Interpol.

Their 10th studio album 'Romanticize The Dive' harkens back to the free spirit of that era, kicking off with Haines nostalgically imploring the listener to “let me take you back, it was the start of something...” before pulling back the curtain on a band that has consistently stayed true to each other and their ethics for decades. In a tribute to lifelong friendship, the album also reunites the dream team behind their 2009 breakout album 'Fantasies' at Electric Lady Studios in New York. All at once a heartfelt reflection on their history, a celebratory gift to those who have been along for the ride, and an outstretched hand to new fans, 'Romanticize The Dive' is another testament to the band’s unwavering love for each other and their insatiable desire to push themselves as artists.

I was in the right place at exactly the right time. I was handed a precious backstage pass to this magical period, as a chronicler of some of its most significant moments, of its wild protagonists, whether in music, entertainment, fashion, football, art or politics. I had a front-row seat for that insane decade, but it was 1996 that was the period’s stunning apex.

Oasis at Maine Road and Knebworth, the births of Robbie Williams the solo star and the Spice Girls, the Euro 96 football tournament and ‘Three Lions’, the rise of New Labour and Tony Blair. I was there for the lot. 1996.

Britpop ruled the airwaves. The tabloids framed reality long before Instagram. Football was finally coming home.

Tony Blair was learning to play rock star – and rock stars were learning they could play politics. Everyone was partying hard, and Britain was the coolest place on earth. Showbiz reporter Dominic Mohan wasn’t watching the party from afar – he was in the room.

Backstage at Knebworth with Oasis. In strip clubs with Robbie Williams. On the phone to Bowie.

On the receiving end of Spice Girls gossip, Gallagher gobbiness and tabloid-era chaos. From Euro ’96 euphoria to Brit Awards anarchy, from rave culture to New Labour, Mohan witnessed the moment the UK went from scruffy indie island to global cultural powerhouse. Part memoir, part cultural autopsy and part riotous tour through the 90s and its greatest year, 1996 is a jaw-dropping front-row seat to the madness, the music, the football, and the politics that reshaped Britain – and created legends along the way.

Three decades on, Mohan returns to the year everything peaked, and asks: what the hell happened, why did it matter, and can it ever happen again? If you were there – this book will feel like going home. If you weren’t – you’ll wish you had been.

The reader is taken on an episodic and kaleidoscopic journey full of adventures from childhood to the end of Gang of Four's 'golden period' in 1984. Thrown off Top of the Pops, truncheoned by police at an anti-Nazi rally, being at the heart of Leeds music scene and the UK post-punk movement in the 1970s, fraternising with Hell's Angels and other undesirables, supported by bands like REM and playing with the likes of the Police and Talking Heads, King's times with Gang of Four are rich with stories.

Persuasive, captivating and bursting with insight, this dual biography by acclaimed journalist Jim Windolf dives into the surprisingly supportive, occasionally rivalrous, always fertile relationship between Bob Dylan and the Beatles.

Few artists have shaped pop culture as profoundly as the Beatles and Bob Dylan. In Where the Music Had to Go, Jim Windolf offers a new, persuasive interpretation of how two of the twentieth century's greatest recording artists influenced one another - and reveals how their apprenticeships, accomplishments and legacies are uncannily intertwined.

From Dylan's early dismissal of the Beatles as being for 'teenyboppers' to his rapid acknowledgment of their talent, the book captures the pivotal moments that pushed Dylan to 'go electric' and inspired the Beatles to deepen their lyrics. Packed with vivid anecdotes (the Beatles rehearsing Dylan songs; Dylan spending hours at Lennon's childhood home), the book paints a picture of a relationship full of camaraderie, rivalry and mutual evolution.

Windolf's meticulous research uncovers hidden gems, peeling back layers of history to reveal the stories fans didn't even know they were missing.

From Lennon's and McCartney's lyrical transformations to George Harrison's growth as a songwriter, the book showcases the ripple effects of the Beatles-Dylan connection. More than a music biography, this is a front-row seat to the forces that shaped the sound of a generation.

In 2005, Andrew Bird was a previously unimaginable combination of virtuoso violinist, singer-songwriter, guitarist, and whistler. With that year’s album 'The Mysterious Production of Eggs', Bird minted a new sound that continues to be imitated today.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of 'The Mysterious Production of Eggs', Andrew Bird is releasing a very special boxset featuring a 54 page book including photographs, special surprises, and two essays: one written by Andrew himself, and another by Anders Lindall examining the circuitous and fascinating process Andrew and collaborators took to record the album.

The boxset also includes the original release of the album, alongside two LPs of never before released material, on black vinyl. On one LP, a one-to-one playthrough of the album but of demos, live cuts, and alternate versions. The third LP includes more never released rarities on Side A, and a selection of songs from the original album performed by Andrew with the Nu Deco Ensemble. The original cover artist has created all-new artwork for the anniversary piece.

On 'It’s The Hope That Kills You', Simon Tyrie & Georgia Hardy pair dancefloor filling beats with disenchanted pop songwriting to create something that nods to electroclash, indie-rock and europop while remaining entirely singular. The Itch are both a product of and the antidote to an age of pessimism.

As Abe Epstein was tracking West Side brown-eyed soul groups on General Mc-Mullen Blvd., Mickey Foster and his biracial Soul Generation band were answering James Brown’s call to get on the good foot just south of the River Walk. Collected here are a dozen of their swaggiest and crook-legged instrumentals, a mood building survey of the band’s 1969-’77 run, including the paper hit knee-wobbler 'Iron Leg'. Private Space, the group’s third album, is a previously untapped vibe at the heart of The Indications. Pushing beyond the boundaries of the funk and soul on their previous releases, Private Space unlocks the door to a wider range of sounds and launches boldly into a world of synthy modern soul and disco beats dotted with strings. It’s an organic, timeless record that’s as fresh as clean kicks and familiar as your favorite well-worn LP.

Developed after being apart for much of the year, Private Space is creatively explosive and delights in upending expectations. Its 10 tracks are both an escapist fantasy and a much-needed recentering after a tumultuous 2020. Throughout, The Indications highlight a collective resiliency – as well as the power of a good song to be a light in the darkness.

Durand Jones and The Indications have long provided the soulful soundtrack for such deep thoughts, both on stage and on your turntable. But as the world slowly resets from the chaos of the past year, Durand Jones and The Indications’ Private Space is arriving at just the right time.

A stunning and completely essential outing.

'Horrorful Heights' marks a formidable new chapter in The Bevis Frond’s deep and storied catalogue, showcasing the enduring creativity of songwriter, guitarist and frontman Nick Saloman as he moves into yet another decade of recording. Long established as one of the most distinctive voices in British underground rock, Saloman continues to refine the band’s signature blend of melodic psychedelia, wiry guitar epics and sharp, emotionally attuned songwriting. 'Horrorful Heights' offers one of the most approachable entry points to the band’s world in years: a record that gathers their core strengths into a cohesive, vivid set.

Recorded with long-time drummer Dave Pearce and guitarist Paul Simmons, alongside new bassist Louis Wiggett, the album moves fluidly between jangling psych-pop, heavy-lit guitar workouts and pastoral comedown reveries. Wiggett also brings a surprising new colour to the Frond palette, contributing pedal steel to 'Best Laid Plans' and 'Momma Bear', recalling early-70s country-tinged British rock from Bronco or Cochise.

The album’s range is wide but sharply defined. 'Draining The Bad Blood' channels the classic Bevis Frond mode of melodic guitar pop—cut from the same cloth as longtime fan favourites later covered by Teenage Fanclub and The Lemonheads. 'Space Age Eyes', a concise nine-minute odyssey, nods toward the transcendental explorations of ’70s electric Miles Davis, complete with a blistering solo from Simmons and rhythmic elasticity from Pearce.

The sitar-laden title track, written off-the-cuff while Saloman half-watched a football match, drifts through incense-hazed psychedelia with layered vocals and tumbling tablas—an affectionate echo of the head-shop mysticism he has toyed with throughout the band’s history. Elsewhere, 'Mossback’s Dream' splices lysergic leads with the propulsive energy of ’80s American hardcore, forging a hybrid that feels both timeless and entirely its own.

Additional highlights include the Byrds-tinged 'Buffaloed', the swirling narrative freeze-frame of 'Silver Insects', and 'That’s Your Lot', a rapid-moving burst of melancholic euphoria and one of the record’s most immediate songs.

Though unmistakably eclectic, 'Horrorful Heights' presents a focused portrait of The Bevis Frond in 2025 - vital, tuneful and unburdened by nostalgia. Saloman describes the collection simply: the best songs he’d written in recent years, arriving unforced and instinctive. The result is a late-period peak from one of Britain’s most quietly influential underground bands.

Once shaped by maritime industry and later a haven for artists in search of vast warehouse space, its history and isolation give it a quiet magnetism. 'Streetsweeper', the fifth album by John Andrews & The Yawns, reflects that vantage point-tranquil, self-contained, and curious about the movements most people overlook. Just a few cobblestone blocks from the freight-ship-lined harbor, Andrews wrote dozens of new songs at his electric piano. Nine of them found their way to Los Angeles to be recorded with Luke Temple, who played guitar and some bass. Drummer Noah Bond and bassist Kevin Louis Lareau, both longtime members of The Yawns and Cut Worms, form the rhythm section. Will Henriksen of Florry played fiddle on 'Something To Be Said', while Emily Moales of Star Moles sang harmonies recorded remotely by Kevin Basko at Historic New Jersey. Red Hook may not be the easiest neighborhood to reach, but that distance gives it a singular glow-one Andrews sneaks into every note of Streetsweeper. The Super 8 video for 'Something To Be Said', shot by Hilla Eden, wanders through its streets like a hazy love letter. The album offers a similar invitation: step off the main road, linger a little, and notice the small, overlooked moments that make a place-and a life-rich. Andrews has swept those margins with care, leaving songs that listen, observe, and stay with you.

But logistical problems involving the band’s co-lead singer Julie Christensen’s ability to record in Los Angeles led to the formulation of a new solo configuration rooted in the past.

Poison Fang Society guitarist Larry Schemel, most recently of Death Valley Girls, and Tucson-bred drummer Johnny Ray are both veterans of the eight-piece lineup heard on the Flesh Eaters’ 1999 album 'Ashes of Time'. They are joined by bassist-keyboardist-guitarist Sharif Dumani, who also engineered the collection and co-produced with Chris D.

The songs Chris brought to the studio reflect a shift in style: “I was really trying to write some more traditional kinds of songs, but not make them sound really anonymous. On the last couple of albums, the Divine Horsemen albums, there was a lot more cut-up stuff. I still did some cut-up in the lyrics with this record, but not as much. The lyrics to ‘Cellars to Weep’ were very influenced by songs like Bob Dylan’s ‘Subterranean Homesick Blues’ or ‘Highway 61 Revisited,’ even though song doesn’t sound like that. I wanted to keep that kind of surrealist humor that Bob Dylan has — those nonsense phrases that add meaning when they’re all put together.”

With tracks inspired by subjects as diverse at the gun-toting MAGA couple who pointed their weapons at Black Lives Matter protesters ('Goddamn Thieving Shame') to the sleazy come-on cover lines of ‘50s pulp paperbacks ('Sex Kitten'), 'Courtroom Wedding' flexes a lean, potent sound that recalls the knife-edge attack of the Don Kirk-era Flesh Eaters and the heavyweight vibe of Chris’ second solo album (as Stone by Stone), 1989’s 'I Pass for Human'. Like this punk grand master’s finest work, it displays an electric, tormented immediacy.

“'Courtroom Wedding' sounds more live than the Divine Horsemen records,” Chris says, “and I think that’s a good thing.”

The unfiltered story of women in the punk scene— celebrating the highs, confronting the lows, and proving the power of community.

From the gritty streets of 1970s London to the sun-soaked beaches of 2000s California, Rebel Grrrls: The Real Story of Women and Punk is a raw and exhilarating exploration of rebellion and identity through the eyes of its fans. This book goes beyond the musicians, spotlighting the women who defied small-town limitations, challenged family expectations, and shaped the scene from the inside out.

Molly Tie examines what the movement has meant to millions of fans, setting their experiences within a wider cultural and political landscape. What is it like to be a woman at a gig? Which bands and songs truly reflect the female experience in a male-dominated space? And how does our connection to alternative music change when powerful figures face allegations of abuse?

Spanning every era—from the British explosion and American hardcore to riot grrrl, pop punk, emo, ska, and today’s activist revival—Tie reveals how women in the movement have fought to be heard, proving that, at its best, punk is about refusing to stay silent.

                                                                                                                                                  The Bluebells

'This Is The Bluebells' was recorded live and co-produced at Beetroot Studios in Airdrie with producer Stuart MacLeod and then mastered by Paul McGeechan - The album is released by Last Night From Glasgow (Peter Capaldi, Pearl Charles, Sister John) with the vinyl editions of this special LP expertly manufactured at Seabass Vinyl in Tranent - making this album 100% Made In Scotland! For the first time the album features songs written collaboratively by all members of the current Bluebells line up

Campbell Owens, Douglas MacIntyre and Mick Slaven worked on the album alongside founding members Robert 'Bobby Bluebell' Hodgens, David McCluskey and Ken McCluskey to create the new collection of tracks. The result is a stunning body of work; rich, melodic, thoughtful and infectious.

The Bluebells rose to fame in the 1980s as jangle-pop pioneers of the Sound of Young Scotland era with their three hits 'Young at Heart', 'Cath' and 'I'm Falling'. Despite only releasing one readily-available album during their initial run (Sisters, 1984) the band have remained as one of Scotland's most beloved bands, currently boasting over 144,000 monthly Spotify listeners. The band enjoyed a post-breakup revival in 1993 after a Volkswagen advert featured 'Young at Heart', pushing the single to No.1 for 4 weeks. They have since reunited over the years, to play various festival slots and develop new material. In 2023, the band released The Bluebells In The 21st Century, their first LP in decades. In 2025, The Bluebells played Glastonbury.

Downtown NYC of the mid-1970s and early 80s was the perfect landscape for reinvention. If the Lost Generation writers telegraphed the death of the American dream, the No Wave era, led by artists including Teenage Jesus & The Jerks, Nan Goldin, Sonic Youth and the Contortions, challenged that dream by howling "NO" while creating a counterculture that brought punk, rock, jazz, funk, the art world, hip hop, and outlaw literature together into an international explosion of creativity. Why was this scene so compelling, and remains so today? What set this confluence of time, place, and people apart from the rest? The answer, in a word: women.

Women, resisting stereotypes. Reinventing themselves according to their individual artistic visions. Adele Bertei was a pivotal figure in the No Wave movement.

She was an original member of the Contortions and Brian Eno's fascination with the band resulted in the seminal No New York record, released in 1978. NO NEW YORK: A Memoir of No Wave and the Women Who Shaped the Scene will provide an uncompromising testimony to the first significant, international movement of women artists creating work on an equal footing with the men, the fruits of which were some of the most striking and unique of this era.

                                                                                                                                                      The Boxer Rebellion

After a successful year of live performances in 2025, The Boxer Rebellion release their seventh album, 'The Second I’m Asleep'. The 10-track record explores themes of clarity amid chaos, self-understanding, and emotional growth, created through an instinct-driven, spontaneous process. Featuring Nathan Nicholson’s distinctive vocals and the band’s dynamic soundscapes, the album combines raw energy with refined production. Top engineers Rees Broomfield, Billy Bush, and Kevin Grainger ensured exceptional sound quality across all listening formats. This release marks not just a return but an evolution for the band.

Includes guest spots from Earl Sweatshirt, MIKE, Smino and Kenny Mason.

Consistently hailed for his poetic lyricism and virtuosic technical abilities as a rapper, 'The Pilot' was written amidst sobriety and signals a looser, lighter body of work that embraces spontaneity, creative freedom and collaboration.

With appearances from Earl Sweatshirt, Kenny Mason, Smino and MIKE, 'The Pilot' finds MAVI expanding his once- insular process into one defined by community and creative exchange. Conceptually, it's less a continuation of 2025's successes than a reframing of them, a project that looks forward rather than back.

José González has delivered a new album, Against the Dying of the Light, a companion and further meditation on the themes of his critically acclaimed album, Local Valley. Where Local Valley turned inward toward place, language, and personal reflection, this new record widens its gaze, becoming an urgent call to preserve the light of humanity with all its flaws, at a moment when, technology increasingly shapes how we think, feel, and relate to one another.

While José has always embraced technological advancement, he questions the assumption that every new possibility must be pursued to its maximum potential, especially when progress comes at the expense of human flourishing, attention, and empathy.

Keeping in the tradition of folk music as protest, José’s new single — sharing its title with the forthcoming album — urges listeners to resist systems that dehumanize and divide: “Disconnect from every algorithm, every perverse incentive that drags you down. Let’s rebel against the replicators, against the dying of the light. Kill the codes that feed the hate, keep the codes that make you thrive, celebrate the f**king fact that we’re alive.”

Across the album, González works within a deliberately minimal framework, pushing his familiar palette to new heights through subtle variation, restraint, and detail. Each song unfolds with its own distinct character, proving how much emotional and musical range can be achieved within self - imposed limitations. Written in English, Swedish, and Spanish, the record reflects his Swedish - Argentine roots and frames its humanist message as a global one rather than a purely personal or political statement.

José González is one of the most quietly influential artists of our generation. The Swedish - Argentine artist has built a singular musical world from hypnotic, minimal guitar work and his unmistakably gentle voice — a sound that has become deeply personal to millions of listeners worldwide.                                                                                                                                                                      Wolf Parade was founded in 2003 in Montreal, Quebec. After a pair of self-titled EPs, the band - Hadji Bakara (electronic manipulations), Dan Boeckner (guitar, vocals), Spencer Krug (keyboards, vocals), Arlen Thompson (drums) - released 'Apologies to the Queen Mary' to widespread acclaim in September, 2005. The album was recorded by Modest Mouse frontman Isaac Brock and engineer Chris Chandler at Audible Alchemy in Portland, Oregon. 'Apologies to the Queen Mary' barrels headfirst and breathlessly through songs written during Wolf Parade’s early years together as a band. The album’s catchy, energetic urgency immediately established them as one of the defining forces of 2000s indie-rock. It earned a 2006 nomination for Canada’s esteemed Polaris Music Prize; The Guardian raved, “magnificent, all told”; Pitchfork gave it a 9.2 rating, saying, “Wolf Parade's true talent is transforming the everyday into the unprecedented,” and later joined the chorus of critics who placed it among the best albums of the 2000s. Two decades on, 'Apologies to the Queen Mar'y has lost none of its vitality and continues to win over new generations of fans.

In 'Osni the Flare', the second chapter of Tristan Allen’s mythic trilogy, finds the composer, producer, and puppeteer following a mortal’s transformation into deity through the discovery of fire. Recorded over four years using wordless vocals, organs, ocarinas, an arsenal of toy instruments, and intricate sound design, 'Osni the Flare' unfolds the origins of flame and temporality across four sonically and visually compelling acts. Weaving a creation myth that shifts between beauty, shadow, and wistful embers, Allen provides a portal to meticulously crafted, emotionally potent sound and story that echo through a fantastical realm.

Born in Saratoga Springs, New York, with early childhood memories from his family’s tenure in Japan, Allen’s path wound through formative encounters including teacher Andy Iorio, who encouraged improvisational techniques in the young musician’s burgeoning interest and prowess at the piano, and Amanda Palmer, who discovered them at 16 during a Berklee summer program and crowdfunded their first release. After studying piano at Berklee, co-founding the live-electronics collective Nue, touring China with metal band Dent, and releasing two solo-piano EPs, Allen fled Boston for Brooklyn in 2018.

A Craigslist ad led to puppetry training under Mike Leach, who spent six months teaching them to properly walk a marionette, leading to a position as a performer at the vaunted Puppetworks Theater. This rigorous work, combined with exposure to their father’s Bread and Puppet Theater artifacts and Balinese shadow puppetry, led Allen to their creative practice: composing for acoustic instruments, arranging electronically, and performing through puppetry.

'Osni the Flare' traces a creation myth following the titular character who awakens in a garden and picks apples from a tree. Beckoned by a Loon, Osni sets forth to safeguard the tree from winter’s chill. When the Loon is devoured by a Dragon, Osni ventures into its belly and discovers embers. In offering these embers to the tree, it catches flame—the origin of fire itself. Iso, god of the sea, intervenes with a flood that drowns Osni’s garden. In death, Osni’s soul enters the shadow realm to join Tin and Iso, becoming the deity of fire—'Osni the Flare'.

The album sounds more human and childlike than its predecessor, 'Tin Iso and The Dawn', shifting from the overseer perspective of deities to follow the first mortal character in Allen’s world. Underpinned by new love, the project channels feelings into music that becomes an enchantment all its own. Like Tin Iso, the album opens and closes with piano as a portal representing home, as Osni embarks across three realms: the land of the living, the in-between, and the beyond.

Recorded almost entirely with an Aston condenser mic in Allen’s Brooklyn apartment overlooking the Cypress Hills Cemetery, 'Osni the Flare' was built from toy piano and flutes, ocarinas, harmonium, pump organ, electric and upright bass, gadgets, and extensive collections of music boxes and bells. The vocal melody— inspired by partner Virginia Garcia Ruiz’s humming evoking Pan’s Labyrinth—was Allen’s first foray into voice, using wordless melody to allow listeners to remain protagonists. Flutes were meticulously recorded note by note from Balinese sulings, Chinese souvenir shop finds, and bird-shaped ocarinas. Music boxes were wound slowly, sampled individually, then rearranged and tuned to double Virginia’s humming. A dying Casio SK-1 with a blown-out speaker is paired with a harmonium to form chordal textures.

It was well received on release and has continued to be featured in critics ‘Best Of’ lists such as The Guardian’s 1000 Albums To Hear Before You Die (“ one of the most excoriating, exhilarating British indie albums of (the 90s)”.

New records, longer tours, bigger rooms—it’s always been another step upward for the Nashville-based quintet, whose 2014 debut, 'Those Days Are Gone', has become an era-defining classic in the emo-punk genre. The record launched them onto global tours with Hot Mulligan and New Found Glory, as well as slots at Slam Dunk, Riot Fest, and The Fest.

Every milestone has pushed them ahead, but on their sixth LP, 'Moments Before The Wind' (Wax Bodega), that constant charge gradually slows—suspendred mid-step, mid-thought, mid-life. Recorded with longtime producer Brett Romnes on either end of the sold-out 'Those Days Are Gone' 10-year tour, the follow-up to 2023’s 'Lessons That We Swear To Keep' chronicles a surrealist descent into liminality: a period of intense personal upheaval colored by loss, renewal, reflection, and, ultimately, life-altering joy through the impending birth of a child.

The 11-song set is disarmingly real, coloured by sonic spontaneity—a swirl of Midwest emo, sweat-soaked punk fervor, and crashing alternative rock—but also the sort of achingly vulnerable lyricism fans and critics have come to expect from the band.

The album, like 'Continue as a Guest', finds The New Pornographers—bandleader A.C. Newman, Neko Case, Kathryn Calder, John Collins, and Todd Fancey—expanding their already rich catalog in surprising fashion. Joined by legendary session drummer Charley Drayton (Divinyls, Keith Richards, Fiona Apple), the space contained in a New Pornographers song has never been this clearly articulated or generously textured, giving a distinct pulse to the characters whose lives spill out in Newman’s tender, evocative lyrics.

'The Former Site Of' adds new depth to the sound Newman shook loose through building and recording in a home studio, fine-tuning the band’s creative process far beyond the lockdown-era necessities of remote collaboration. “Having time in my studio really opened things up,” he explains. “I can get the skeleton of a song together first—just a couple of elements, the key feeling, really as little as possible—before bringing it to the band and running from there.”

Two albums into this shift, The New Pornographers are creating universes of intricately textured sound and narrative detail, every layer keyed to reveal an unexpected new facet. As on 'Continue as a Guest', one of the more readily apparent layers is the way a song forms itself around a featured instrument. On 'The Former Site Of', it’s a mandolin which, in Carl Newman’s hands, lends lead single 'Votive' its sense of acceleration as it builds from the atmospheric sweep of its synth and keyboard opening to a classic, wide-open jam.

Far from being the expected next chapter from The New Pornographers, 'The Former Site Of' is an argument against expectation by a band that continues to evolve rather than rest on their laurels. Even in its darkest or most self-deprecating moments, there is an effervescence to the music here that is irresistible, an affirmation that the struggle of its characters and the listener, like a photograph of a distant planet, is worth it.

Her dark, punk-infused humor and fearless embrace of eccentric feminine power archetypes combine with gut-punch viscerality and a strange beauty that is anything but pretty.

Acclaimed LA multi-disciplinary artist and musician Marnie Weber collects highlights from a long and storied career on 'Returning Home: The Music of Marnie Weber', a collection of neo-goth art-pop that steers between kankyō ongaku pop songs, noise-rock, and haunted fairytale darkness. The career of Marnie Weber (b. 1959) began with gigs paid in beer at an LA trucker bar in 1977. Her band, Party Boys, formed when Weber was then 19 and had just left home. By the early 80’s, the band began regularly performing at LA’s fabled Al’s Bar, sharing the stage with generational talents that passed over its beer-drenched floors. L7, Beck, Arto Lindsay, Ry Cooder, The Fall, Fear, Hole, Hüsker Dü, Social Distortion, Nirvana, The Residents, Sonic Youth, Urge Overkill, Jesus Lizard, the Misfits, among plenty more, played to audiences that included Bret Easton Ellis, Steve Buscemi, Tommy Lee, Bill Murray, Al Pacino, Sean Penn, and Chloe Sevigny.

The official biography of former Big Country frontman chronicling his career highs and tragic death. This is the story of Stuart Adamson, co-founder of not one but two seminal Scottish post-punk groups, The Skids and Big Country. But this is a book that is about much more than music. Stay Alive is about alcoholism, abuse, family, fame, addiction, depression and working-class pride.

And along the way there are stories of drug busts, debauchery, flag burning, fist-fights, prison escapes and riots, with a revolving cast of characters from The Clash to the Rolling Stones. For the first time, both of Stuart Adamson’s wives, children and bandmates tell their side of the story: unflinching, funny and brutally honest.

This album brings together some of the finest music ever released on Black Jazz Records which in its short four-year history between 1971 and 1975, released over 20 superlative albums which all successfully blending spiritual jazz, funk and soul jazz of the highest calibre.

Similar to other independent jazz labels at the time including Strata-East Records and Tribe Records, Black Jazz focussed on a number of key artists, most of whom first established their career during this period, and all of whom are featured here.

Featuring The Awakening, Doug Carn, Walter Bishop, Chester Thompson, Kellee Patterson and more.

The label released twenty albums between 1971 and 1975.

Artists who recorded for Black Jazz Records included Cleveland Eaton (bassist for Ramsey Lewis), keyboardists Doug Carn and Chester Thompson, vocalist Kellee Patterson, saxophonist Rudolph Johnson, bassist Henry Franklin, and spiritual fusion group The Awakening.

The label was distributed and financed by Ovation Records, based in Chicago. Schory founded Ovation in 1969, shortly after leaving RCA. Schory was a Grammy-nominated percussionist who was also known for his development of the stereo recording techniques including Dynagroove, and RCA Victor’s Stereo Action. Schory also pioneered quadrophonic sound, and a number of Black Jazz Records were in quadrophonic and other formats such as ¼” tape and 8-track.

Black Jazz launched in 1971 with Gene Russell’s ‘New Direction’. Russell was the creative force behind the label, acting as producer, engineer and A&R and focussed on developing new solo artists. The most successful of these was Doug Carn, who released four albums featuring his wife, Jean Carn, as vocalist. She later changed her name to Jean Carne and became a successful soul singer signed to Gamble and Huff’s Philadelphia International empire.

Singer Kellee Patterson gained notice as the first black Miss Indiana in 1971, before recording ‘Maiden Voyage’, her debut album for the label. Keyboardist Chester Thompson would go on to join Tower of Power and later Santana. The Awakening featured top veteran musicians from Chicago - the only Chicago group signed to the label. Drummer and percussionist Arlington Davis Jr, bassist Reggie Willis, flautist and tenor saxophonist Richard (Ari) Brown and trumpeter Frank Gordon were all members of the Association for The Advancement of Creative Musicians. Trombonist Steve Galloway and Ken Chaney were part of Philip Cohran and The Artistic Ensemble.

Black Jazz Records released 20 or so superlative albums in a four-year period, all successfully blending spiritual jazz, funk and soul jazz. This album brings together some of the finest music released by the label in its short four-year history, closing its doors finally in 1975.

This album brings together key tracks from Doug Carn recorded for Black Jazz Records in the 1970s.

Doug Carn is one of the most-important (and least-recognised) forces in the creation of the canon of 'deep and spiritual jazz music' - full of powerfully emotive intensity, consciously-uplifting lyricism and addictively beautiful melodies.

All of his LPs during this period have since achieved cult classic status including 'Infant Eyes', 'Adam's Apple', 'Spirit of the New Land' and 'Revelation'.

Aside from his songwriting and keyboard skills, many of the tracks here feature the stunning and powerful 5-octave range vocals of Jean Carn (later Carne), his wife at the time.

Musicians featured on this album include Alphonse Mouzon, Charles Tolliver, Henry Franklin, Michael Carvin, Walter Booker, Ronnie Laws and others. Aside from Carn’s compositions there are also striking interpretations of music by Lee Morgan, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, McCoy Tyner, Bobby Hutcherson and Wayne Shorter.

Black Jazz became one of the defining labels of independent and conscious jazz music in the 1970s alongside other important labels such as Strata-East and Tribe Records. As well as this Best of Doug Carn release, Soul Jazz Records are also releasing a Best of Black Jazz Records collection at the same time.

                                                                                                                                                                                    Full Circle

Tom Misch’s long-awaited sophomore album 'Full Circle' finds the London-based artist, songwriter, and producer at his most personal and honest. Exploring the moments that have shaped him over the last eight years: family, friendships, nature, and celebrates the work of finding his way back to himself. Made during his time spent between London, Suffolk, Portugal, and Nashville with a focus on classic songwriting, honing a collection of eleven timeless songs including the previously released singles ‘Old Man’ and ‘Red Moon’.

While it contends with the struggles that Tom has faced, 'Full Circle' remains optimistic and effortlessly listenable. Its true strength lies in the universality of its lyrics, inviting listeners to inhabit Tom’s world or trace their own path within it. 'Full Circle' stands as both a reflection of his journey and a statement of his ongoing evolution.

Inanimate Objects Of The 21st Century

With their third album, 'Inanimate Objects of the 21st Century', Newcastle’s The Pale White prove once again that there’s no slowing them down. Following the success of their introspective sophomore album 'The Big Sad', brothers Adam (vocals/guitar) and Jack Hope (drums) return louder, sharper, and more defiant than ever. This third full-length is their most expansive yet: a record that blends the anthemic punch of classic rock with the urgency and edge of modern alternative. The title, 'Inanimate Objects of the 21st Century', is a nudge to the uncomfortable irony of our time – as technology accelerates, humanity feels increasingly frozen in place. Lead singer Adam Hope says: “Technology is moving, but we are not. Human civilization entered the 21st century wide-eyed and naive with mobile phones that would barely fit in our pockets. Fast forward a few decades and we’re so far from where we were that it almost looks like a bad 80’s sci-fi movie. Back then, that film would be watched in packed-out cinemas after an eagerly anticipated release, but now they stand emptier than they once were, attended mainly as a nostalgic experience in the age of Netflix and doomscrolling.

They began recording 'Some Friendly' shortly after with producer Chris Nagle. The blistering lead single, 'The Only One I Know' was their first top-10 hit, and is still their most popular song. Two additional singles followed with 'Then' and 'Sproston Green'.

These were the gifts that made them among the greatest British survivors of our time, rolling through tragedy and stylistic changes to amass a terrific body of work - one that was modern enough to play in clubs but classicist enough to stand the test of time, and one that continues to grow to this day.
