The Boomtown Rats

The First 50 Years: Songs Of Boomtown Glory

The Boomtown Rats were one of the most successful bands of the 1970s in the UK. Their grown-up new wave and real time stories captured the imagination of a mass audience. As the leader of The Rats, Bob Geldof led his band of Dublin post-punkers right to the very top of the UK charts with UK No.1s 'Rat Trap' and 'I Don’t Like Monday’s'.

In its gatefold sleeve with brand new artwork and commentary, all tracks have been selected by the band themselves. Released to coincide with their 50th anniversary tour, this is the very best of the Boomtown Rats and a one-stop shop of their words and melodies.

          Sex Pistols

Live In The U.S.A 1978 - San Francisco

40 plus years on the Sex Pistols’ output from their original creative period together, forged amidst times of poor leadership and economic turmoil, continues to resonate in ways most could never have imagined. Not least those Stateside who witnessed the performances that make up this release.

A document of the last days of the band left to run adrift by absent management on a label that didn’t really understand, in a country that arguably felt more threatened than it did excited by the prospect of the group. Vital, primal and compelling are all words that can be used to describe the audio here. Until their return as a live entity in 1996, everything that followed their short, fateful tour of America in January 1978 was simply a parody of what had been. With concerts finally released in full and correctly sequenced for the very first time – Live In the USA 1978 takes us back to the moment the creative force that was Sex Pistols imploded.

On January 14th 1978 the Sex Pistols ended their fateful US tour at the Winterland Ballroom, San Francisco. The set list included ‘God Save The Queen’, ‘Pretty Vacant’, ‘Holidays In The Sun’ and ‘Anarchy In The UK’. The raw production captures the essence of a live experience, giving listeners a powerful snapshot of a significant moment in punk history. Limited edition blue vinyl.

Florence + The Machine & Jules Buckley And His Orchestra

Symphony Of Lungs (BBC Proms At The Royal Albert Hall)

Florence + The Machine joins Jules Buckley and his Orchestra for a celebration of Lungs, her BRIT Award-winning debut album, released to huge acclaim 15 years ago.

On the 11th September 2024, Symphony of Lungs came to life at the BBC Proms with an outstanding performance from Florence + The Machine and Jules Buckley, reimagining the album Lungs in its entirety. This included best-selling and fan favourite singles, ‘Dog Days Are Over’, ‘You’ve Got The Love’ and ‘Cosmic Love’ in addition to rarities Florence admitted she hadn’t performed in at least 15 years, including ‘Bird Song’ and ‘Falling’. Jules Buckley with his team of arrangers transformed the already beautifully produced album into an orchestral and choral masterpiece. Jules commented in an interview with Timmy Fisher for the concert programme, “So much of what we hear on the original is already orchestral: you hear these epic harp lines from Tom (Moth) and the multitude of percussion writing that just slams when it needs to slam and coaxes us when the anticipation builds.” He emphasises these elements are what inspired him to arrange such an album and helped him to connect to each song’s message and use the orchestral palette to help enhance it.

The Jules Buckley Orchestra was created in 2022 to conceive and develop exciting new projects with an array of artist collaborations. Consisting of players hand-picked by Jules, all following their own individual paths as pivotal musicians in the UK’s recording scene. Symphony of Lungs was the ensemble’s third collaborative artist project with BBC Proms. Medieval folk instruments (including lutes and a Theorbo solo), added a unique touch to this project, while resident organist of the Royal Albert Hall and TikTok organ sensation Anna Lapwood also joined the magical collaboration. Also joining the orchestra in this spectacular production were The London Contemporary Voices founded by multifaceted artist, producer and creative director, Ilā Kamalagharan.

In addition to the performance being live streamed on BBC Radio 3, Universal Music Recordings in conjunction with the BBC will be officially releasing the live recording of this performance, initially on digital streaming platforms in October 2024, followed by 2LP black and CD formats in March 2025. The physical products include breathtaking imagery from the performance as well as a heartfelt personal note from Florence herself.

                            Sex Pistols

                            Live In The U.S.A 1978 - Atlanta

On January 5th 1978 the Sex Pistols ignited their inaugural US tour in Atlanta at the Great Southeast Music Hall. The set list included ‘God Save The Queen’, ‘Pretty Vacant’, ‘Holidays In The Sun’ and ‘Anarchy In The UK’. The raw production captures the essence of a live experience, giving listeners a powerful snapshot of a significant moment in punk history. Limited edition red vinyl.

                                  The Verve

                                  This Is Music: The Singles

Originally released in November 2004 it featured two non-singles, tracks pulled from the sessions for their third album Urban Hymns, ‘This Could Be My Moment’ and ‘Monte Carlo’.

2024 marks the 20th anniversary of the release of an album that has never been pressed on vinyl and, under the group’s direction, this long overdue reissue replaces the bonus tracks with the powerful singles from the band’s 2008 reunion album, Forth – ‘Love is Noise’ and ‘Rather Be’ – as well as including their second single ‘She’s A Superstar’ (1992) in its original, full-length, eight-and-a-half-minute form (rather than the five-minute edit). As such, the album now represents the complete story of The Verve’s singles.

Named after the band’s sixth single, the first issued from their second album, A Northern Soul, it brilliantly documents the potency of The Verve’s relatively short but epoch-making journey through the musical cosmos.

On their emergence (when they were known simply as Verve), they were frequently referred to as purveyors of the shoegaze sound, although their output was more expansive, cinematic and genuinely psychedelic than that description implies, as evidenced by their first three non-album singles/EPs, all of which reached the summit of the UK indie charts.

After splitting up for the first time in 1995, they reconvened (with the addition of guitarist and keyboard player Simon Tong) to reach their commercial peak in 1997 with the hugely successful Urban Hymns, which was centred around a brilliantly accomplished suite of songs written by Ashcroft, including the worldwide smash ‘Bitter Sweet Symphony’, the UK number one ‘The Drugs Don’t Work’ and the beautiful and evocative ‘Lucky Man’.

Combustible, intense and highly influential, this stellar journey is finally available on wax, where, in its definitive form, it easily stands comparison with any other singles collection from the last three decades.

                                    STAFF COMMENTS

Barry says: I mean, you know the singles from Urban Hymns already obviously because they're all stunning and they were on the radio constantly, but do you know the other singles from Northern Soul or Storm In Heaven? I didn't until early last year, and I wish this had been about at the time. A superb greatest hits of a brilliant, genre-spanning act.

The Beatles: 1964 US Albums In Mono

1964 was the year that the U.S.A. first fell head-over-heels for The Beatles, with an unprecedented run of albums and singles topping the charts and going on to sell millions of copies. But these albums are not simply replicas of the 1963 and 1964 albums released by Parlophone in the UK and rest of world. Seeing a different opportunity, Capitol Records and United Artists compiled these albums for U.S. release between January 1964 and March 1965.

To celebrate the momentous year when Beatlemania exploded across the U.S., seven Beatles albums are collected for a spectacular new 8LP vinyl box set. 'Meet The Beatles!'; 'The Beatles’ Second Album'; 'A Hard Day’s Night (Original Motion Picture Sound Track)'; 'Something New'; 'The Beatles’ Story' (2LP); 'Beatles ’65'; and 'The Early Beatles' all feature faithfully replicated artwork and new four-panel inserts with essays written by American Beatles historian and author Bruce Spizer. The albums’ new vinyl lacquers were cut by Kevin Reeves at Nashville’s East Iris Studios with constant reference to the original vinyl first pressings to ensure they are faithful to the original release, while also enabling more musical information to be heard than was possible before. 180 gram audiophile pressing. 'The Beatles’ Story' 2LP is exclusive to the box set.

666 is one of the most original progressive rock albums of all time. Composed by the late maestro Vangelis, with lyrics written by Costas Ferris, it is a conceptual double album that was hailed upon its release as “a work of stunning complexity and originality” and is the crowning moment in the career of Aphrodite’s Child.

Featuring material such as ‘The Four Horsemen’, ‘Aegian Sea’, ‘Babylon’, ‘Do It’, ‘The Beast’ and ‘All the Seats Were Occupied’, the album’s renown has grown steadily over the decades, influencing successive generations of musicians. Unique and relevant over 50 years after its original release, it is widely regarded as one of the most accomplished and important records ever released on the legendary Vertigo imprint, the jewel in the crown from the so-called ‘swirl’ period that refers to the famous label design used between 1969 and 1973.

First time on vinyl for this stunning collection of sessions Dusty recorded for the BBC, from 1962 to 1970, originally released on CD in 2007.

More poignantly, these 22 tracks are the session tapes that survived (the BBC recorded over many sessions in the past for cost-saving reasons) and remained in good sound quality. The set includes three tracks recorded in July 1962, as part of The Springfields in a different, more folk-oriented style than her subsequent recordings.

Featured highlights are a selection of her always immaculate covers, including – Stevie Wonder’s 'Uptight (Everything’s Alright)', The Rascals’ 'Good Lovin’, Jackie Wilson’s R&B stomper 'Higher and Higher (Your Love Keeps Lifting Me)', and the Bee Gees’ classic 'To Love Somebody'.

The other tracks include BBC renditions of some of her biggest hits – 'Wishin’ and Hopin’, 'Little by Little', 'You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me', 'Son of a Preacher Man', and 'I Just Don’t Know What to with Myself'.

The journey across the music is guided by Costello’s newly self-penned 35-page essay and numerous rare and never-before seen photos. The collection is anchored by CD1, a new 2024 remaster of the album from the original master tapes. CD2 collects the solo demos recorded in 1985 & now includes 6 never heard before Red Bus Session recordings. CD3 is a never heard, mixed from the multitrack tapes, 17-song concert recorded in London, UK on January 27, 1987. Hear Elvis in concert backed by James Burton, Jim Keltner, Jerry Scheff, Belmont Tench & T-Bone Wolk. The set closes with 3 compilation CDs that digest Costello’s studio recordings, previously unreleased demos, outtakes & live recordings.

The 2CD set includes the new 2024 remaster of the album 'King Of America' from the original master tapes, with CD2 being a collection of songs featuring studio recordings, previously unreleased demos, outtakes & live recordings from this wild and wonderfully odd odyssey.

Issued in October 1990, their self-titled debut has been hailed as one of the greatest albums of all time by NME, and was also placed at No.13 in Rolling Stone’s 2021 run-down of the 40 greatest “one-album wonders”.

Selling 300,000 copies in the US and 500,000 copies at home, The La’s has become an indie touchstone. No shortage of that reputation rests on the single ‘There She Goes’, a reissue of which hit No.13 in the UK, on its way towards racking up double-platinum sales figures. With their album now making a return on “coke-bottle green” wax, The La’s have more than secured their place in British music history.

With its densely layered sound providing a backdrop to songs that tackle such unlikely subject matter as shoplifting, consumerism, sexual politics and the commercial exploitation of women, it remains an inspirational album from an era in which women were beginning to take the reins in the creative arts.

Introducing the group’s signature blend of folk and rock music with heartfelt lyrics and soulful melodies, the album was instrumental in propelling the folk-rock resurgence into the mainstream at the end of the 2000s.

Peaking at No.2 in both the UK and the US, and winning British Album of the Year at the 2011 BRIT Awards, Sigh No More paved the way for a career that has seen the group release three further acclaimed albums, scooping up a second BRIT Award, plus two Grammys and an Ivor Novello, along the way. The group’s lasting impact on the music industry can be traced back to this record – now reissued on ultra-clear vinyl for National Album Day – and its game-changing singles, among them ‘Little Lion Man’ and ‘The Cave’, which have, respectively, reached nearly 45 million and more than 20 million streams this year alone.

Get Yer Ya-Ya’s Out! - National Album Day 2024 Edition

Formed in London after a fortuitous meeting between Mick Jagger and Keith Richards on a railway platform at Dartford train station, The Rolling Stones, one of the greatest rock’n’roll bands of all time, released in 1970 a record that is often described as one of the greatest live albums of all time. An exceptional document of the group’s North American tour of November 1969, largely taken from two storming nights at New York City’s Madison Square Garden, Get Yer Ya-Ya’s Out! features a set of Stones classics, among them the opening statement of intent, ‘Jumpin’ Jack Flash’, as well as ‘Sympathy For the Devil’, ‘Honky Tonk Women’, a nine-minute ‘Midnight Rambler’ and the high-octane closer, ‘Street Fighting Man’.

Powered by the classic rhythm section of Charlie Watts and Bill Wyman (with Ian Stewart assisting on piano), and with Keith Richards and Mick Taylor trading guitar licks, and Mick Jagger whipping the crowd into a frenzy, Get Yer Ya-Ya’s Out! shows just what a tight outfit the Stones had become as they entered the new decade. Following their cover of Chuck Berry’s ‘Little Queenie’, Jagger declares, “Charlie’s good tonight, innee?”, and it is the late drummer who, along with a donkey named Jack, features on the album’s front cover, shot by legendary rock photographer David Bailey. Following its release in September 1970, Get Yer Ya-Ya’s Out! would be the first live album to hit No.1 on the UK charts, and to this day it remains one of the most influential live recordings of all time.

Reissued on 180g coloured vinyl for National Album Day, this pressing of the album Includes an archival lithograph print featuring film strips from the concert.

Having started out as a London sound system, Soul II Soul became a bona fide musical collective in 1988, issuing their debut single, ‘Fairplay’, that year and paving the way for unparalleled chart success in both the UK and the US.

Gaining traction in the UK clubs, that single, plus its follow-up, ‘Feel Free’, found Soul II Soul soundtracking the “Second Summer of Love”, and their third single, ‘Keep on Movin’’, finally got people dancing up and down the country as the band’s burgeoning fanbase went overground. Taking the group into the Top 5, ‘Keep on Movin’’ was followed by ‘Back to Life (However Do You Want Me)’, whose infectious groove reached the UK No.1 spot and went Top 5 across the Atlantic. As these singles’ parent album, Club Classics Vol. One, became a UK chart-topper and a US Top 20 (under the name Keep on Movin’), Soul II Soul set the pace for British soul music, inspiring countless homegrown acts that have followed. Marking its 35th anniversary, the album now returns to vinyl in a picture-disc edition featuring the group’s signature Funki Dredd logo.

Redrawing pop music’s borders in the early 21st century, London trio Sugababes occupy an important place in the history of British music. Formed in London in 1998, the group seamlessly combined mainstream pop with cutting-edge R&B, soul and dance music – and they added to this intoxicating mix on 2002’s Angels With Dirty Faces, an album which brought avant-garde electronic music to the masses.

This landmark second album from Sugababes includes the era-defining ‘Freak Like Me’, which, helmed by underground producer Richard X, rode a sample of Tubeway Army’s ‘Are “Friends” Electric?’ all the way to the top of the UK charts in the spring of 2002. Led by the guiding hand of the Xenomania production team, ‘Round Round’ repeated the trick, paving the way for Angels With Dirty Faces to clean up that summer, going triple-platinum and scoring Sugababes the 2003 BRIT Award for Best British Dance Act.

Exit Planet Dust - National Album Day 2024 Edition

Originally released in the summer of 1995, The Chemical Brothers’ debut album, Exit Planet Dust, remains a key record of the 1990s. Reaching No.9 in the UK, it introduced “big beat” music – as the club-filling mix of hip-hop and acid house had been christened – to a mainstream audience, helping to fuel its dominance on the British dance scene as the 20th century came to a close.

Opening with ‘Leave Home’, the Chems’ debut single and a swift UK Top 20 hit, the album also features collaborations with folktronica icon Beth Orton, on closing cut ‘Alive Alone’, and Charlatans’ frontman, Tim Burgess, on the album’s second single, ‘Life is Sweet’, which took The Chemical Brothers back into the UK charts, hitting No.25 following its September 1995 release.

Amid these standouts is a track that had already become a signature tune for the duo of Ed Simons and Tim Rowlands: ‘Chemical Beats’. Originally issued on the highly collectable Fourteenth Century Sky 12” EP – issued in 1994 under the Chems’ earlier name, The Dust Brothers – it had already become a club classic by the time of Exit Planet Dust’s release, and, 30 years on, it still sounds huge on this 140g red- and gold-coloured double-vinyl reissue.

One of the most iconic groups of the late 20th century, Dire Straits established their timeless sound from the moment they first appeared on the London gig circuit, in 1977. With faultless musicianship and memorable songs that quickly connected with music lovers, it was clear the group would set their own path, proving that, even amid the new-wave era, classic songwriting would never go out of fashion.

After three years of relentless hard work, touring, writing and recording their music, the group entered the 1980s well on their way to becoming the biggest-selling band in the world. That year’s Making Movies album would also make its presence felt on the silver screen, thanks to the inclusion of the UK No.8 single ‘Romeo And Juliet’ – later used in films such as Empire Records, Hot Fuzz and I, Tonya – and live favourite ‘Tunnel Of Love’, which featured in the 1982 Richard Gere film, An Officer and a Gentleman. Dire Straits’ frontman, Mark Knopfler, would later explain to The Times how satisfying it was to write ‘Tunnel Of Love’: “It’s the moment when you know you’re really on to something,” he said. “There’s a certain part of the song that I call the breakdown and when I got there I could feel the drums, the piano, all the things that I wanted all the instruments to do. When you get to that state, there’s a strange sense of one thing following another, of elements falling into place quite naturally.”

Paying extra attention to those elements, this half-speed master of Making Movies has been overseen by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios, in London, resulting in a cut that has a superior high-frequency response (treble) and very solid and stable stereo images. Pressed on 180g vinyl, it comes with alternative artwork that swaps the red and the blue of the original album sleeve, plus a printed inner sleeve, a “Half-Speed Master”-branded obi-strip and an Abbey Road certificate of authenticity.

The album is a collection of cover versions. It was co-produced with Mike Hedges and released in March 1987 on Polydor. Through the Looking Glass was preceded by the single "This Wheel's on Fire". It was the second and final album recorded with guitarist John Valentine Carruthers. Some of their cover songs were praised by the original artists themselves.

In contrast to the Beatles' first two albums, all 13 tracks on A Hard Day's Night were written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, showcasing the development of their songwriting partnership.

                                                                                          Meditation Mixes Of Mind Games

Newly, radically reimagined remixes, created from John Lennon’s classic song, Mind Games. These 9 Meditation Mixes create their own space while maintaining firm, authentic roots in John Lennon’s original recording of the song. Each of them have been radically altered, slowed down and extended, ranging from 5 to 10 to 0ver 33 minutes, allowing for the musical soundtrack to wash over the listener and provide a relaxing, immersive, deep listening and meditative experience. Four of these tracks are presented as Binaural versions that each focus on different types of brain waves: Beta, Delta, Gamma and Theta. Named ‘Mind’, ‘Space’, ‘Spirit’ and ‘Love’, these tracks utilise the effect created when the ears hear left and right frequencies which combine to be perceived as a new frequency that can activate different brain patterns for scientifically proven therapeutic effects.

Of the original song, Mind Games, Yoko Ono Lennon said: “John was trying to convey the message that we all play mind games. But if we can play mind games, why not make a positive future with it – to be a positive mind game?”

Produced by Sean Ono Lennon, mixed and engineered by Sam Gannon with additional recording engineered by Scott Holingsworth, the song will now bring a new positive impact in the realm of meditation and mindfulness.

A BONA FIDE ‘CULT’ CLASSIC, AFRO-HARPING IS THE FIRST OF A RAREFIED AND OUTSTANDING TRILOGY OF SOUL-JAZZ ALBUMS BY DOROTHY ASHBY THAT WERE PRODUCED FOR CADET RECORDS (CHESS) BY RICHARD EVANS BETWEEN 1968 AND 1970.

Remastered from the original ¼ inch tapes by Alex Wharton at Abbey Road Studios, Afro-Harping is filled front-to-back with sumptuous and hypnotic grooves. Its African percussion, soulful orchestrations, in-the-pocket rhythms and Dorothy’s virtuosity take it far beyond jazzy mood music and made it a favourite of beat heads and producers; sampled by Pete Rock, Kendrick Lamar, Jay Dee (aka J Dilla), Madlib, Flying Lotus and many others.

This deluxe version features eight bonus tracks, alternate takes from the surviving four-track session reels that are arguably superior to those on the album, including an explosive rendition of the single, ‘Soul Vibrations’, extended versions of its title track and ‘Little Sunflower’ and two fantastic jazzy readings of ‘Theme from Valley of the Dolls’.

Additional flavour is provided by some of the in-studio ‘atmosphere’ that accompanies the bonus cuts. The session reels also featured the voices of Dorothy, Evans and others: encouragement, laughter, a brief burst of beatboxing and a mild disagreement over how many bars had been played, for example. In many cases these elements have been left where they were found, the better to experience the sheer joy of being in the room with Dorothy and some of the Chicago’s finest musicians in the winter of ’68.

By that time, Evans was running every aspect of Cadet Records, applying his emerging funk formula to new and established artists, with an overflowing pipeline of work for Ramsey Lewis, John Klemmer, Frank D’Rone, Odell Brown and many more. His growing Afrocentricity, coupled with Ashby’s desire to highlight the Black struggle that had been the subject of several plays (from which three of the tracks on Afro-Harping were drawn) that she and her husband John had produced in her hometown of Detroit, provided the foundations for the recording of Afro-Harping. “Her jazz playing was very New York-ish, very sophisticated,” Evans said. “But I wanted things to be very Black, very funky at Cadet.”

Jazz harpists are uncommon, and Dorothy is rightly regarded as probably the greatest of a rather exclusive club that also includes Gail Laughton, Corky Hale, Alice Coltrane and, more recently Verve’s own Brandee Younger. Though all her recorded output is strong, Afro-Harping is truly special. “She was an expert on the harp and did things very instinctively. I think she just wanted to please me, and that’s why those recordings are different,” Evans remembered.

Unfortunately, on release Afro-Harping came and went without significant fanfare and, not long after their third and final record together, The Rubaiyat…, the Ashbys left Detroit and moved to LA, where Dorothy concentrated on session work, appearing on records for Bill Withers, Bobby Womack, Stevie Wonder and others. Two years after her final solo album was released in 1984, she died of cancer at the age of just 53 and didn’t get to witness her star rising as her work was widely rediscovered, a process that really began at the turn of the ‘90s.

Evans soldiered on at Cadet as the Chess empire crumbled away following its sale to GRT in 1969, but continued to arrange, produce, and perform for other artists and labels. He released a brace of solo albums, in 1972 and 1979, before becoming professor of music at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, a position he held for more than two decades. He died at the age of 81 in 2014. Unlike Dorothy, he was blessed to see his work reach new audiences when Afro-Harping and countless other records he had presided over were rediscovered and sampled by hip-hop producers and DJs like Gilles Peterson and 4Hero.

Together their partnership scaled new summits, beginning with this record. It was the convergence of two individual journeys through jazz, soul, and funk, and the blueprint for what would become a legendary triumvirate of rare quality. This special release is testament to its lasting appeal, the bonus tracks shedding new light on the inner workings of Dorothy Ashby at the peak of her creativity alongside a visionary producer able to highlight her gifts in a way that perhaps only he ever could. As Marshall Chess says, “You know, I get asked about The Blues and Chuck Berry or The Rolling Stones all the time, but Dorothy Ashby and Richard Evans were both geniuses that a lot of people still don’t know about today.”

The LP is housed in a gatefold sleeve with black poly-lined inner sleeves and an illustrated eight-page insert featuring detailed notes by Seán Casey of Shindig! Magazine, whose investigative work has unearthed new information about the making of Afro-Harping. The CD is housed in a digipack with 28-page booklet.

Remastered from the original ¼ inch tapes by Alex Wharton at Abbey Road Studios and featuring eight bonus tracks, it includes the much sampled “Soul Vibrations”.

                                                                                                          Eno (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

For the past 50 years, Brian Eno has been at the forefront of musical creativity, technology, and artistic innovation. The hugely influential British musician, producer, activist, visual artist and self-described “sonic landscaper” began his career as an original member of the legendary Roxy Music in the early 1970s. He left the band to release a series of solo records and later pioneered the genre of ambient music with his 1978 album Ambient 1: Music for Airports. As a producer, Brian Eno has helped define and reinvent the sound of some of the most important artists in music, including David Bowie, U2, Talking Heads, Coldplay, and dozens of others. He also composed what may be the most heard piece of music in the world: the startup sound for Microsoft Windows. Undeniably, Eno has changed the way modern music is made.

Rich with access to hundreds of hours of never-before-seen footage and unreleased music, Gary Hustwit’s forthcoming documentary Eno employs groundbreaking technology to accomplish something that’s never been done before: a feature film that’s never the same twice. Hustwit and creative technologist Brendan Dawes have developed bespoke generative software designed to sequence scenes and create transitions out of Hustwit’s original interviews with Eno, and Eno’s rich archive of hundreds of hours of never-before-seen footage, and unreleased music. Each screening of Eno is unique, presenting different scenes, order, music, and meant to be experienced live. The generative and infinitely iterative quality of Eno poetically resonates with the artist's own creative practice, his methods of using technology to compose music, and his endless deep dive into the mercurial essence of creativity.

Hustwit’s collaboration with Eno first began in 2017, when Eno created an original score for Hustwit’s film Rams, about the German designer Dieter Rams. Says Hustwit, “Much of Brian’s career has been about enabling creativity in himself and others, through his role as a producer but also through his collaborations on projects like the Oblique Strategies cards or the music app Bloom. I think of Eno as an art film about creativity, with the output of Brian’s 50-year career as its raw material. What I’m trying to do is to create a cinematic experience that’s as innovative as Brian’s approach to music and art.”

This soundtrack features a number of Big Brian's collaborations and a few unreleased numbers too. You might know some of these pieces, you might not but it wouldn't be over the top to say it's all genius, and it's all worthwhile to have on your record shelf.

Despite overwhelming demand for newly recorded material from the biggest band in the world at that time, One Hand Clapping was never officially released.

Discs 1 and 2 are newly mixed with 12 tracks that didn’t appear in the original film, including reworked extracts of Beatles classics. The package includes original artwork, plus a TV sales brochure created for the film.

For Recordstore Day 2024 Universal Music Recordings and Virgin Records will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the album ëMonty Python Live At Drury Laneí. Inspired by Terry Gilliamís unmistakable animations and graphics, the original artwork was created by Kate Hepburn (who later created visuals for Pink Floyd, and the Rolling Stones) and has been adapted for a first release on picture disc by Darren Evans and Holly Gilliam, who were also responsible for 2019 ëLife Of Brianí RSD release.Following the success of four studio albums ñ ëMonty Pythonís Flying Circusí (1970), ëAnother Monty Python Recordí (1971), ëMonty Pythonís Previous Recordí (1972), and ëThe Monty Python Matching Tie and Handkerchiefí (1973) ñ ëMonty Python Live At Drury Laneí was recorded in March 1974 on the last night of a sell-out four week-run at the London theatre. It peaked at No. 19 on the UK album chart that July, where it nestled between Marvin Hamlischís soundtrack to The Sting, and the debut album from Bad Company. The album features live versions of sketches made famous on the BBC TV progamme Monty Pythonís Flying Circus, written and performed by Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terr Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, and Michael Palin, with support from Lyn Ashley and Neil Innes. This 50th anniversary celebration can only mean that the following message, that appeared on the original 1974 artwork, was a little premature: ìThis could be, but by no means definitely, perhaps almost your very last chance but one to hear some of these classic rib-ticklers, before they are all handed over to the British Museum archives (Loopy and Dappy Things Department).î

You Made Me The Thief Of Your Heart - 30th Anniversary (RSD24 EDITION)

2024 is the 30th anniversary of the Sinéad O’Connor Single, You Made Me the Thief of Your Heart. The track was written by Bono, Gavin Friday and Maurice Seezer for the soundtrack to the 1993 film In the Name of the Father. The song was produced by English musician Tim Simenon (Bomb The Bass) and Gavin Friday and does not appear on any of O’Connor’s studio albums, but in 1997, it was included on her first compilation album, So Far… The Best Of.In the Name of the Father is based on the true story of the Guildford Four, four people falsely convicted of the 1974 Guildford pub bombings that killed four off-duty British soldiers and a civilian. O’Connor’s heart wrenching, powerful vocal was the perfect way to deliver the track’s devastating emotional message with lyrics written by Bono. In a 2023 interview with Steve Pafford, Gavin Friday talked about the recording of the track: “We showed Sinéad a rough edit of the film, after which I spent sometime with her going through the lyrics the next day in STS Studios in Dublin. And with the phenomenal talents of producer Tim Simenon we recorded Sinéad’s breathtaking vocals. All she asked for was the room to be candlelit, and within two takes she had made her magical mark on the song……. what Sinéad captured within that song spoke as loud as the bombs that opened the film and as deep as the pain The Troubles had wounded our nation” This exclusive release for Record Store Day 2024 is on clear vinyl and pulls together the versions of the track released in 1994 as well as the B-Side, The Father and His Wife The Spirit performed by Sinéad and Gavin Friday.

“The Ship is a great, unexpected record. The title track and “Fickle Sun (i)” on their own and as a connected piece of music are marvelous accomplishments, distinctive in Eno’s catalog. And “I’m Set Free” immediately ranks among the most perfect-sounding pop songs Eno has ever had a hand in making.” – Pitchfork.

“The music of “The Ship” is tolling and elegiac, while “Fickle Sun,” with lyrics about the “dismal work” of a soldier’s life, is in constant metamorphosis. Electronic sounds melt into orchestral upheavals and guitar distortion; voices, natural and synthetic, loom from all directions.” – The New York Times.

“The Ship is the work of someone who fully believes in the power of art as an empathic tool, as a means to invoke a particular viewpoint, an unconsidered perspective.” – The Quietus.

This release is basically the follow up to The Hot Rats Sessions. Frank Zappa used a very stripped-down combo featuring Don “Surgarcane” Harris on violin and vocals. The music concentrates heavily on instrumental and blues-oriented material. This album consists of many unreleased tracks that Frank Zappa bypassed but kept his eye on during his career. He just never got around to releasing them. Some of the tracks were almost included on The Lost Episodes album. 90 minutes of music will be mixed for the first time. The remaining music was mixed and edited by Frank Zappa. The vinyl will only contain the tracks FZ edited and mixed.

After years of obscurity, Pulp shot to stardom in Britain with 1994's His 'n' Hers. By the time "Different Class" was released at the end of October 1995, the band, particularly lead singer Jarvis Cocker, were genuine British superstars, with two number two singles and a triumphant last-minute performance at Glastonbury under their belts, as well as one tabloid scandal. On the heels of such excitement, anticipation for "Different Class" ran high, and not only does it deliver, it blows away all their previous albums, including the fine "His 'n' Hers". Pulp don't stray from their signature formula at all - it's still grandly theatrical, synth-spiked pop with new wave and disco flourishes, but they have mastered it here. Not only are the melodies and hooks significantly catchier and more immediate, the music explores more territory. From the faux-show tune romp of the anthemic opener "Mis-Shapes" and the glitzy, gaudy stomp of "Disco 2000" (complete with a nicked riff from Laura Branigan's "Gloria") to the aching ballad "Underwear" and the startling sexual menace of "I Spy," Pulp construct a diverse, appealing album around the same basic sound. Similarly, Jarvis Cocker's lyrics take two themes, sex and social class, and explore a number of different avenues in bitingly clever ways. As well as perfectly capturing the behavior of his characters, Cocker grasps the nuances of language, creating a dense portrait of suburban and working-class life. All of his sex songs are compassionate, while the subtle satire of "Sorted for E's & Wizz" is affectionate, but the best moment on the album is the hit single "Common People," about a rich girl who gets off by slumming with the lower class. Coming from Cocker, who made secondhand clothes and music glamorous, the song is undeniably affecting and exciting, much like "Different Class" itself.

The burgeoning influences of psychedelia, Bob Dylan and the tensions around the world, are evident in classics like Paint It Black, an eerily insistent number one hit, available on the US version of the LP.

Released as the follow-up to Aftermath, this album marked a high point in the band’s career, continuing their ventures into psychedelia and baroque pop balladry, it is among the band’s most musically eclectic works. Brian Jones sidelined his guitar on much of the album, instead playing a wide variety of other instruments including organ, marimba, vibraphone, and kazoo. Piano contributions came from two session players: former Rolling Stones member Ian Stewart and frequent contributor and studio legend Jack Nitzsche. It was the last album produced by Andrew Loog Oldham, the band’s manager and producer of all of their albums to this point.

The album has one of the most striking sleeves of the period, featuring a classic Gered Mankowitz image on the cover. The photo shoot took place at 5:30 in the morning following an all-night recording session at Olympic Studios. Using a home-made camera filter constructed of black card, glass and Vaseline, Mankowitz created the effect of the Stones dissolving into their surroundings – according to Mankowitz… "to capture the ethereal, druggy feel of the time; that feeling at the end of the night when dawn was breaking and they’d been up all night making music, stoned.”

It is one of their strongest, most varied LPs, with many great songs that remain unknown to all but Stones devotees.

She Smiled Sweetly shows their hidden romantic side at its best, Connection is one of the record’s few pieces of more conventional driving rock and album closer Something Happened To Me Yesterday includes Keith’s first solo vocal.

Released as the follow-up to Aftermath, this album marked a high point in the band’s career, continuing their ventures into psychedelia and baroque pop balladry, it is among the band’s most musically eclectic works.
