Sleaford Mods

Bunch Of Kunst Documentary / Live At SO36

Thanks to their sweary rants about modern England, Nottingham duo Sleaford Mods have been called "The world's greatest rock 'n' roll band" by Iggy Pop and "the soundtrack to post-Brexit Britain" by the Guardian.

Jason Williamson, a former chicken factory worker and father of two, his band mate, beatmaker Andrew Fearn, and their manager Steve Underwood, avant-garde bedroom label owner and former bus driver, have won over fans with their brutally honest lyrics and DIY ethos.

Following them on their two-year journey from Sherwood to chart success, award-winning music documentary Bunch of Kunst tells the story of three guys taking on the music business on their own terms.

"This documentary film is the perfect antidote to those sexy, racy, rock’n’roll yawns most bands hide behind. We are indeed, a Bunch Of Kunst.“
    - Jason Williamson, Sleaford Mods .

The CD was recorded at SO36 Berlin on June 19th, and features the complete unedited performance, originally released in an edited form as a vinyl LP on
    Harbinger Sound (HARBINGERUSA001)

      Uranium Club

      Live At Acri Taun

Nothing like a carb-load Italian pre-show feast and table wine to grease the gears of some live action in Fidenza, Italy . A land-locked classico right where you would pinch to hike up the boot. A club packed tight with handsome men and women abused by sonic marauders. “Have you seen Uranium Club live? No? Drop everything. They are complete-package slayers.

Watch- works drummer power, shred-haired bass magic (glasses flying), ripped twin guitar flexing on nerd beach, vocals poured through the skylight into your e-holes and over your thought center, sunglasses all around: fucking hypno- wheel. “Tough, smart, and wiry, midwest exploded all over the globe. Minneapolis, a city known for producing the best, has taken no nap on these young men: the driest tone, the snappiest hooks. They are simply great and this recording captures a particularly good night. They Shred ‘til everyone’s dead, including a nine-minute jam, god help us.

“Here’s something to make you feel good about the world, to know that we have extended a strong art-handshake to our brothers and sisters in Italy. Vivia l’italia! Ciao, bella.” - John Dwyer.

        Grateful Dead

The Best Of The Grateful Dead Live Vol. 1: 1969-1977

The live albums the band released during its 30-year career are the primary source for the collection, including tracks like “Bertha” from Grateful Dead (Skull & Roses) (1971), “Fire On The Mountain” from Dead Set (1981), and “The Music Never Stopped” from One From the Vault (1991). A testament to its ongoing popularity, the revered double-album Europe ’72 (1972), is represented by no less than five tracks, including “Sugar Magnolia,” “Jack Straw” and a searing rendition of “Morning Dew.”

Other performances on the set were selected from the growing number of live releases that have emerged since the death of founding member Jerry Garcia in 1995. Some of those recordings include “Touch Of Grey” from Truckin’ Up To Buffalo (2005), a 1990 version of “Eyes Of The World” with saxophonist Branford Marsalis featured on Wake Up To Find Out (2014), and “Estimated Prophet,” which debuted earlier this year as part of Cornell 5/8/77, a recording of the Grateful Dead’s mythic show at Cornell University in 1977, thought by many to be the band’s greatest live performance.

          Ó

          Live At Third Man Records

Ó (formerly Eskimeaux) is the recording project of songwriter and producer Gabrielle Smith. In it’s earliest days, the project was markedly experimental, the work of an artist with a knack for ambience and a fascination with sound. The next wave of material, most of what landed on 2011’s Two Mountains, didn’t quite read as a solo project anymore and represented a shift toward traditional song structures, albeit still happily atmospheric, nature-centered musings on how to find one’s place in the world.

Their live 7” features two intimate yet momentous songs, “Alone at the Party” and “Broken Necks”, both from 2015’s O.K., the bedroom pop tour de force released on Double Double Whammy Records. “Broken Necks” is notably arresting as the fi rst 40 seconds is a fi nger-picked invitation to the audience to join in singing the chorus, only to explode into full band ferocity with Smith’s saccharine, solid vocals uniting naturally with her backing band, Oliver Kalb (synthesizer), Felix Walworth (drums), and Jack Greenleaf (bass).

                Brooke Blair & Will Blair

                Live Cargo: Original Score

The last few years have been a rollercoaster ride for brothers Brooke Blair and Will Blair. In 2013 they scored Jeremy Saulnier's brutal revenge thriller Blue Ruin. Saulnier had been a longtime friend, and Blue Ruin also starred their brother Macon, as the slightly incompetent Dwight, looking to enact his revenge.

2015 saw the composers, actor and director reunited for the excellent and perhaps even more brutal Green Room.

This year, they've scored two new films for Netflix. Macon Blair's hilariously bloody I Don't Feel at Home In This World Anymore, and Small Crimes which has just premiered this past month.

Before these two latest projects, they worked on to score Logan Sandler's 2016 dramatic thriller Live Cargo. A dark monochrome thriller weaving together a plot of struggling relationships, child loss and the dark world of human trafficking. The Blairs worked closely with director Logan Sandler to capture the tone and texture of a particularly depraved way of life in the Bahamas. Violin bows were were used to resonate old piano strings, metal fans and acoustic guitars. Church organs and a small chamber choir provided a hymn-like chordal foundation. Distant lap steel guitars and accordions suggest somber melodies and slightly detuned vintage synths including an ARP 2500 and a mellotron create a sense of disorientation and uneasiness.
This vinyl edition is a co-release between Blackest Rainbow and Wayfind Records, the Blair's new label.

                  Francobello

                  Long Live Life

Distorted and mischievous, Francobollo are a childlike celebration of everything you find fun in life. Produced by Mercury and Brit award winning producer Charlie Andrew, Long Live Life is a debut album that finds joy in sadness, a kid running around amongst the bins waving a stick. A live show honed at North London warehouse parties led to support tours with The Big Moon and Marika Hackman, now a busy festival summer beckons before a headline tour of Europe this autumn. Capturing their raucous energy, the album sessions were recorded as guerilla gigs in Andrew’s Brixton studio. Singles Good Times, Kinky Lola & Worried Times all championed by Lauren Laverne and Tom Ravenscroft at BBC 6Music. An innocent and excitable celebration of all existence summoning the spirit of Weezer, Pavement & Grandaddy, Francobollo are the riot you can take home to meet your Mum.

                    Neil Young

                    Live Rust

"In retrospect, Live Rust, comes off as an excellent Neil Young live album and career summary, starting with the early song "Sugar Mountain" and running through then-new songs like "My My, Hey Hey (Out of the Blue)" and "Powderfinger." Young is effective in both his acoustic folksinger and hard-rocking Crazy Horse bandleader modes. The various distractions of the concert itself and the film, such as the pretentious props and cowled roadies, are absent, and what's left is a terrific Neil Young concert recording." All Music.

Infamous Nymphs front woman Inger Lorre celebrates how vital her songs still sound today, with a live recording of a sold-out show at the legendary Viper Room. The set includes classic Nymphs tracks, ‘Sad & Damned’, ode to a serial killer ‘The Highway’ and the mourning swirl of ‘Imitating Angels’, with the addition of a cover of Siouxsie & The Banshees ‘Monitor’. This live album is raw and primal; tribal, glamorous, witch-y, grunge-y, punk. Inger states, “These songs are the sound of me walking through fire…”

Lorre’s cult following has grown in strength of late, with the seminal self-titled debut album re issued by Rock Candy Records and 2 new songs released for Record Store Day. Encouraged by the interest she is recording a new album, tentatively planned for an autumn release. Often seen as musician’s musician (once dubbed by Jeff Buckley as ‘The Patron Saint of Fucked-Over Musicians’) and having worked with the likes of Iggy Pop and Henry Rollins, sadly Inger’s notoriety often eclipsed her darkly beautiful music. Haunted by the infamy of a band that burned brightly all too briefly, before imploding in a devastation of bereavement, addiction, mental health issues and misguided record company dealings.

No one will ever forget the desk pissing incident. Inger Lorre is a music industry legend. These days Inger Lorre has mostly conquered her own demons - exorcised through art, music and time to heal. What comes next will no doubt be unique as the women herself. “Inger retains her strength as a songwriter and performer without losing any of her sensitivity, fragility and danger. I always look forward to what she does, it never disappoints” – Henry Rollins / "The Nymphs were a very original underground band with a unique sound and GREAT songs

Looch, with hands like bunches of bananas and songs like flaming arrows. The lovely and tough-as-hell Aggy, crushing the kit. Heavy weird attackers from our sister country. Sludge drips—murder the guitar, usurp the amp, fry the mic, howl like beasts, melt the crowd: Magnetix. We were lucky enough to grab them on one of their rare U.S. shows, recorded in a basement in San Francisco. Here it is in all its gory glory. Let’s go tripping…” —John Dwyer

‘Platinum Tips + Ice Cream’ is new from Royal Trux.

The songs were written over a span of time as wide as eagle’s wings but the recordings are new, live, unrehearsed and were presented in real time to a few thousand people in California and NYC.

Performance art? Yes! But only because, unlike so many other aural ‘content providers’, Neil Hagerty and Jennifer Herrema are true artists writing their own futures into the present. This was, and will always be, Royal Trux.

A recorded document of the Hawkwind's “Chronicle of the Black Sword” stage show of 1985, based on the Elric series of novels by Michael Moorcock. This newly remastered edition features the entire stage show and restores Moorcock’s narrative on CD for the first time (outside of a rare 1994 American CD release) making a definitive edition of one of Hawkwind’s most memorable works.

JOB's musical journey started as students at the famed Booker T Washington High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma. United by a shared love of soul music and sweet harmonies, singers James Davis, Ollie Carbin, and singer-songwriter & musician Billy Bruner began to jam together and eventually formed their own band, J.O.B and, upon graduation in 1977. set to work building a reputation by playing local parties, venues and fashion shows. Very quickly the word of mouth on J.O.B became so strong that they were offered a house band gig at North Tulsa's most popular after hours spot, The Point After. During their tenure at the famed late night spot many bigger acts came to see J.O.B when in town. Tulsa's own Gap Band, Chaka Khan, and Bootsy's Rubber band all paying homage to the trio.
Good quality quarter inch recordings from 1977 are thin on the ground so I can only imagine AOTN delight when this turned up. So, sit back grab a beer and transport yourself back to Saturday evening, 20 August 1977.

This live album, was recorded during the Diamond Dogs tour. Although drawing of mostly Ziggy era songs, stylistically it sees Bowie moving from glam rock into a new Philly soul influenced direction.

‘Live In Paris’ is the first official record of Sleater-Kinney’s famously blistering stage performance.

The thirteen track album, which features Carrie Brownstein, Corin Tucker, Janet Weiss and touring member Katie Harkin, was captured on March 20th, 2015 at the Paris’s historic La Cigale venue during the band’s sold out international tour in support of their acclaimed eighth album, 2015’s ‘No Cities To Love’.

‘Live In Paris’ includes songs from nearly every Sleater-Kinney album, including ‘No Cities To Love’, ‘The Woods’, ‘One Beat’, ‘The Hot Rock’, ‘Dig Me Out’ and ‘Call The Doctor’.

The recording was mixed by John Goodmanson at Avast and mastered by Greg Calbi at Sterling Sound.

Barry says: I know live records can sometimes get a bit of a tough rep, but this one has none of that shaky sound or hefty interval nonsense associated with it, it sound like their trademark technical melodic indie fare but with the overwhelming energy and vibes of a live show. If you like Sleater-Kinney, it's an essential, only slightly more essential that if you simply like a good old-fashioned rock-out.

Live On Mars: London Astoria 1997

To coincide with the 20th Anniversary of their number one debut 1977, Ash have announced the release of a live album called Live On Mars: London Astoria 1997. Recorded over the band's record breaking five night run at the London Astoria from the 28th February to the 4th March. The album includes their hit singles ‘Girl From Mars’, ‘Goldfinger’ and ‘Kung Fu’, as well as a covers of Abba’s 'Does Your Mother Know’ and Dusty Springfield’s 'I Only Want To Be With You’.

The set captures the raw energy of the band on their homecoming celebration to wrap up the epic year of touring for 1977, which was released the previous year.

The album will be released as a limited edition numbered and coloured vinyl, CD and download via the band’s website, the live shows and select retailers.

The band said "The Ashtoria Five Night Stand was one of the most memorable run of shows for us. It really was the icing on the cake of a manic year since 1977 was released. We'd achieved a number one album followed by a world tour that came close to breaking us. These shows allowed us to look back and celebrate with everyone involved. And it was one hell of an aftershow!"

“These five nights at The Astoria, from February 28th to March 4th 1997, sound and feel like a party. An exuberant, irresistible celebration of a band who, transcending the faddishness of concurrent Britpop, succeeded on that rarest of commodities: raw talent.” - Ian Fortnam, Classic Rock

The white-hot set of Live In San Francisco not only features Feral Ohms’ shaggy guitar heroics captured directly to ferromagnetic medium for your grokking, but also happens to be their debut record. From zero to vertical from the get of the set, the ’Ohms muscle this one out fast and hot, featuring Ethan Miller of Howlin Rain, Comets On Fire and recent psych-folk breakouts Heron Oblivion.

Miller gives free rein to his most pyro-psycho-technic guitar fancies, not to mention a full-throated demon-worthy wail, with Chris Johnson on drums (previously of Drunk Horse and currently of Andy Human and the Reptoids) full MC5 style with freight train pummel, with rides so heavy in the mix it sounds like early Damned. Josh Haynes (of the unGoogle-able Nudity) is a total forehead smacker on bass as he bi-amps a filthy sound while wearing some weirdo humility leather strap face harness - it’s just dirty.
“Teenage God Born To Die” indeed. Expect great things from them and this concise set is just long enough to get a dander up for a proper full length, set for release on Ethan’s Silver Current label in 2017. In the meantime, keep an eye out for their live shows and don’t forget the ear plugs, they’ll singe your minge...

The Playground offers up its 9th release to date with honorary Ozzy (now via Berlin, Amsterdam AND London - phew) - Inkswel. This self-confessed drum machine obsessive (and former B-Boy) takes on the task of laying down 4 future-boogie jams on this up and coming label, aided and abetted by Henri Le Blanc, Sven Atterton & Man Made Mountain. "Visions Of Life" features Sven Atterton and is a lively number; soft keys and weaving B-line complimenting a whole manner of vintage drum boxes while glistening chords twinkle through the mix. "Patchouli & Nag Champa" slows things down for some proper smoochy, leftfield boogie. Squelchy synths, mystic leads and flurries of synth-sax are the main motifs of this intriguing soul nugget; full of radiance and intrigue until the very last beat. "All The Way Live" features Henri Le Blanc and veers off towards a slightly more housey direction. A huge, low-slung bass rolling around the low frequencies as clipped drums and warped melodies fight for dominance in other areas of the mix. Inkswel adds the icing on the cake in the form of a spoken word section of cultural observation - noting that most people in the current scene don't want to have random sex with strangers, instead a more conservative, let's get to know each other first system seems to prevail (!!!). Finally, "Pot Liquor Revisited" relives Inkswel's B-boy days as him and rapper Man Made Mountain collaborate on some proper street ready hip-hop. Well programmed beats, a really strong vocal and jazzy, crate dug instrumentation put this up there with Q-Tip and Dilated Peoples - an authentic slice of retroist rap music executed with aplomb! Wonderful stuff here from Inkswell - most recommended.

On Hole’s second album they rounded off some of the raw edges found on “Pretty On The Inside”. Rumours at the time were that Courtney Loves’ husband Kurt Cobain had ghost written the album. Whether this is true or not, there are nod’s to Nirvana’s sound but Courtney’s rage, cynicism and distinctive vocals make it unmistakeably a Hole album, and arguably their best.

It has been said that jazz stopped evolving when Davis wasn't there to push it forward. Even if that isn't true, Miles Davis certainly was one of the greatest music innovators of the 20th century, pioneering cool jazz (with the 1949 recording of 'Birth Of The Cool'), modal jazz (with 1959's 'Kind Of Blue') and Fusion with 1970's 'Bitches Brew'.

'Bitches Brew Live' contains recordings from two performances: the first three songs were recorded at his Newport Jazz performance in July 1969 - a couple of weeks before the Bitches Brew sessions in August of that year - and have remained unissued till this day.

Miles performs with Chick Corea on electric piano, Dave Holland on acoustic bass and Jack DeJohnette on drums; musicians who all went on to become leaders of the Fusion movement. (Wayne Shorter unfortunately missed this date because he was stuck in traffic.)

The A1 track "Miles Runs The Voodoo Down" is the first professionally live recorded version of this song. The other six songs were recorded at the Isle Of Wight festival in 1970,and contain "Directions" and "It's About That Time" from the In A Silent Way sessions.

Included in this exclusive release is a 12 page booklet with a liner note essay by renowned music journalist Michael Azerrad, and a special etch on the D side. Music On Vinyl is proud to bring you this -never before- released double vinyl edition.

                                        Wild Palms

                                        Live Together, Eat Each Other

Recorded by Wild Palms in the same self-built Manor House studio where they made their 2011 debut ‘Until Spring’, new album ‘Live Together, Eat Each Other’ is a lusciously layered offering of hazy experimentalism and off-kilter alt pop, that follows in the auspicious lineage of Beach House, Cocteau Twins and TV On The Radio.

Half a decade in the works, ‘Live Together, Eat Each Other’ packs a lifetime’s worth of experience into 13 tracks, alongside a painstaking approach to recording that beams out of its shimmering glitches and collaged soundscapes. “Because we redid the songs so many times, and sat with them so long and went through so many transformations in terms of layering, it was kind of like the songs had eaten themselves and been regurgitated as something else,” explains Lou of the album’s title. “It seemed like the whole thing was this weird process of consumption and reconstitution. The time it took seemed to allow for a kind of gestation, or fermentation, period. It gave time for influences to bond and stick to each other. Things were made, smashed up into fragments and reformed repeatedly until we couldn’t really remember what it’d been before and it was just what it was. Darrell [the band’s guitarist and Saatchi approved artist]’s artwork followed the same trail as well, collage, re-working, painting, and blotting.”

‘Live Together, Eat Each Other’ is released through One Little Indian Records. The album was produced by the band’s bassist Gareth Jones and Liam Howe (Lana Del Rey, FKA Twigs) who was drafted in to coproduce and fine tune the record.

                                        Live At The Low Beat

'Hey daddy-o, I don’t wanna go down to the basement,’ spat some lanky bespectacled dope once a long time ago. Trust Burnt Hills to wait until he was long enough dead to afford the opportunity to not have to. Holed-up at the Helderberg House in Albany, NY, these cuddly middle-aged monsters of tuff, levitational, psychedelic thug punk swirliness have made an avant-rock legend of their agoraphobia. They played out a few times over the years – Bard College, NY; Weirdo Records, MA; Ron Schneiderman’s Festival Of Endless Gratitude back during the heyday of that ‘New Weird America’ boom; the legendary Elevens show in Northampton, MA – but their collective heart has remained between four breeze-blocked walls, surrounded by the washing machine, some DIY tools, a wall of 4×12 cabs loud enough to be heard four streets away and an occasional Monday night party crowd, every member of which knows how utterly blessed s/he is to be there witnessing this glorious band take flight.

When the party’s not there, the band still is – pretty much every Monday for the past 10+ years now – doing it purely for its own reward. Real goose bump shit. Golden Lab feels no smugness in having witnessed this thing in action seven times now (and sat in on one unforgettable occasion). Rather a sense of longing that the rest of the right thinking world could be afforded the same opportunity. But then, isn’t it the inaccessibility that makes it so special?

Live At The Low Beat does much to disprove that theory. The show presented on this LP, recorded to digital handheld recorder and mastered in Manchester, UK by Dom Tanner, took place at a local eatery regularly frequented by the band (the restaurant boasts bottles of BH founder Jackson Wingate’s homemade ‘Flipped Out Records Habanero Death Sauce’ on its tables) on December 4th 2014. It was the first of what, it has been decided, will be an annual Burnt Hills performance outside the basement. Nine of the ten full-time members of the band were in attendance on this night (guitarist Panda was absent) and it’s safe to assume that they were all pretty well smoked, fed and oiled by the time they took to the stage as it doesn’t take long for shit to really fly. Close to 50 minutes in total, this is the most savage, raging, oblivion-bound Burnt Hills set yet committed to wax.

There’s a whole bucketload of sensitive noodling amidst the chaos – along with the obligatory shred – but it’s, of course, the six-guitar pile-up that really takes this crescendo-obsessed troupe of suburban weirdos into the ‘Lord take me now!’ zone. Live Evil - 180g Vinyl Edition

The first in a continuing series of double-LP extravaganzas released only in Japan in the early '70s, 'Live Evil' mixes four studio tracks from 1970 with four live ones taken from a Washington, DC performance in December of that year. Amidst heavy competition, the live tracks - including "What I Say," "Sivad" and "Gemini Double Image" - are the highlights, featuring some of Miles' best playing of the decade, plus aggressive work on extended solo spots by John McLaughlin on guitar, Keith Jarrett on keyboards, and Jack DeJohnette on drums.

                                              Bronze

                                              Live In San Francisco

“For nine years they have been slowly simmering in a pot. For nine years I have been seeing them usurp every bill they have been on. I’ve never seen a bad Bronze show… they range from smiling and hypnotized dancing crowds to a man getting violated and urinated on at a yuppie bar (everyone still smiling).

“Always the entertainers, always drunk with mad skills; with dashes of John Carpenter, Silver Apples, Liquid Liquid, Birthday Party, Harold Grosskopf, Klaus Schultze, Cluster, and Brian Ferry with a field recorder taped to his tux jacket. Ultra bottom heavy dance beats à la Brian Hock (shirt off / shirt on, it’s all good to me), super handwringing oscillations home brewed by Miles Friction and the ever-great Robert Spector delivering homilies from beyond the dimensional wall.

“They bought a limousine to tour in (which may be the raddest fucking thing I’ve ever heard of), but it’s been parked in the bat cave under a car cocoon like San Francisco’s best kept secret. These guys should be on tour, eaten alive every night by ravenous fanatics—but alas, they are like a rare treat these days. So, we’ve waited outside the bivouac for the flap to lift, and after many nights and cold rations they appeared and performed the great and fabled Bronze happening for us to trap to tape. A mix of absolute old faves and new gears grinding; a great night indeed, recorded and mixed by the Castle Face crew, adorned with photos of the night. You are well set to feast on this release.” - John Dwyer.

Recorded on the Boatman's Call tour, this is a suberb live recording, catching them at their very best.

                                                    Useless Eaters

                                                    Live In San Francisco

Announcing a white-hot entry into Castle Face’s Live in San Francisco series: Useless Eaters, recorded in the basement of vintage clothing store Vacation.

“This show was bananas. When we set up to record a live set, we always hope the band will just murder it and the people will go all crazy. I’d say that crosses over onto the tape and makes the record shine… This was one of those magic moments. All the elements in place for a memorable evening—BYOB, a basement, in the tenderloin of San Francisco, a wicked goddamn band slaying their songs, and a perfect essence in the air. Everyone falling over each other, spilling beer, smiling screaming and sweating. A fucking mess. When everybody leaves and you look at the muddy, hot, trashed, and disgusting room you think, ‘yes, something good happened here tonight.’

“Seth Sutton’s lineup is in peak form here, from touring and being general road-dog bad-asses. His guitar is slanted and choking with intermittent echo—just raw-vibes awesome. Miles Luttrell’s drumming is honed to a point and drunk with hi-hat countdowns. Brendan Hagarty’s bass sounds like it smells bad and is the perfect accompaniment to Seth’s treble-burst guitar, and the at-the-time new edition of Jacob Olsen on keyboard pulls even more of the dystopian spirals from the studio recording out into the live world.” - John Dwyer.

Whether you’re familiar with Matt’s Live shows or want to understand what they are like, this album takes you there! From the excited audience chatter to the clarity of his pulsing KORG, each element resonates with perfect clarity. Berry and The Maypoles' musical prowess shines through their prog-folk excursions and trombone flairs which are reminiscent of an early Acid Jazz release, all with the a nod to Berry's surreal and panoramic world-view.

                                                      The Blind Shake

                                                      Live In San Francisco

Announcing the long overdue seventh entry in Castle Face’s Live in San Francisco series, starring The Blind Shake.

Captured to tape at the same shows as the OBN IIIs’ live record, The Blind Shake were tour-greased and fully torqued over three night at The Chapel in San Francisco way back in 2013. For those unfamiliar: the sheer bodily reaction to seeing these guys is a unique pleasure. They are consistently one of the most fun bands doin’ it to it these days—such a direct channel to your inner teenager it’s more often than not you end up in the pit, awash in baritone guitar and that “let’s wig out” beat.

Whether you’re a noob or a vet, all your bludgeoning favorites are here, one song combing into the next with tasty bites of guitar, and man, they swing that hammer all over this thing. A sterling testament to their claim as the heaviest nice guys around. Their chrome domes shined up real nice for the excellent night-of photographs from main man Brian Pritchard, and as usual John Dwyer, Chris Woodhouse, Eric Bauer and Bob Marshall were manning the decks, keepin’ it crisped for the hi-fis at home.

Available on vinyl for the first time, included download code. Inspiring generations of musicians, Scottish guitarist and songwriter Bert Jansch will be forever known as a remarkable talent and a leading figure in the British folk revival. He came to prominence in the 1960s becoming widely known for his exemplary guitar technique and innovative blend of folk, blues and jazz. Later he became a founding member of folk super group Pentangle before returning to his solo career. Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Donovan and Johnny Marr have long been fans. Reaching people far and wide, Bert deservedly received many accolades for his contributions to music including the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Radio 2 Folk Awards and a MOJO Merit Award.

‘Live at the 12 Bar’ was recorded in 1995 at the legendary London music venue and is a fitting tribute not only to Bert’s virtuosity but to this renowned hub for folk music and other genres. Bert’s meticulous performance brings together songs from ‘When The Circus Comes To Town’, released in the same year, along with the haunting reworking of ‘Blues Run The Game’ (written by Earth’s own Jackson C. Frank) and traditional folk songs ‘Curragh Of Kildare’ and ‘Lily Of The West’ which were staples in Jansch’s repertoire. ‘Live at the 12 Bar’ captures an intimate gig that’s richly brought to life by his spellbinding ability to hold a room. The warmth and reverent silence from fans reminds us of what it was like to attend his shows and the true legend that we have lost. Two decades after its first release, ‘Live At The 12 Bar’ is issued for the first time on vinyl. This exceptional record is the first release in Earth Recordings’ new extensive reissue series of Bert Jansch catalogue.

“One of the most innovative instrumentalists of the twentieth century in the folk rock canon” The Quietus.

Peerless in his consistency of making astonishing records” All Music.

The story and history of Nine Black Alps is forever etched in UK grunge-rock folklore. 2014 however was the year when they released their 5th album ‘Candy For The Clowns’. Signed to the newly formed Leeds label Hatch Records, the album was a far more distorted and rockier affair that harked back to the likes of Everything Is and Love/Hate.

With core members Sam Forrest (vocals, guitar), David Jones (guitar), James Galley (drums, vocals) and bass player Karl Astbury, the band retained their distinctive and energetic sludge, grunge-rock sound albeit with a tighter and more dynamic style. ‘Candy for the Clowns’ was praised by the likes of Rock Sound, Classic Rock and Drowned in Sound, while 6 Music and XFM championed singles such as ‘Novokaine’ at radio.

For a band 12 years into their career ‘Live from The Wishing Well’ marks their first ever live album. Set for release on 4th May it features a full length Nine Black Alps performance captured on 14th December 2013.

The show, taking place at Gorilla in Manchester was a special concert to celebrate 10 years since the band formed. Nine Black Alps ran through a set that covered the full breadth of their career from early singles 'Shot Down' and 'Unsatisfied' to recent releases like 'Supermarket Clothes'.

At just under an hour in length, the album showcases the band's fiery live sound with no production trickery and even features a special guest appearance by ex-bass player Martin Cohen.

“I believe Destruction Unit to be one of the most important underground bands in America. The live shows vary from dense chaos to dumbstruck pandemonium. The volume is always colossal. The spectacle, dramatic. “Putting microphones on these Arizona weirdos is similar to trying to get a decent recording of a soccer riot-getting Ryan [Rousseau] to sing into our microphone like shooting a hummingbird with a spitball from across a gorge… but we’ve done it. Polished up and pushing the red, we present this deathless comet captured to tape. Headphones on, lowlights flickering, spliff in hand-you are a warrior on the dawn of a new perilous passage…until you have to flip the LP. Enjoy.” - John Dwyer.

                                                            Phosphorescent

                                                            Live At The Music Hall

Inspired by live albums such as Bob Dylan’s Hard Rain, Houck envisioned an album that, rather than play like a greatest hits collection, would present songs from throughout his catalog in new ways, representative of how the songs have grown and transformed over the years in the live setting. Phosphorescent were coming to the end of almost a year of hard touring behind 2013’s Muchacho before the four Brooklyn Music Hall shows, (one of which was a solo performance by Houck), and the ability of Houck’s songs to morph and expand is showcased here through these revelatory performances.

Live At the Music Hall spans nearly 10 years and four Phosphorescent albums total, including 2005’s Aw Come Aw Wry, 2007’s Dead Oceans debut Pride, breakout 2010 album Here’s To Taking It Easy, and ultimately, 2013’s transformative Muchacho. The Phosphorescent live line-up here features Ricky Ray Jackson on guitar and pedal steel, pianist Scott Stapleton, drummer Christopher Marine, bassist Rustine Bragaw, percussionist David Torch and organ / keyboards player Jo Schornikow.

“Playing those four shows, it was clear something special was going on,” says Houck. “After eight months of touring, we’d gotten to a really good point where we weren’t quite exhausted yet with the material, but we’d had enough time to really grow with the songs. So we were in that sweet spot where we were pulling something great out of the songs every night.” Without a doubt, Live At The Music Hall is an inspiring document of a band at the peak of their powers.

                                                              Ty Segall

                                                              Live In San Francisco

By now you should know what you’re in for here: an eardrum-toasting take to tape of the mighty Ty Segall Band, captured during two nights in San Francisco at the barely-pushing-medium-sized venue The Rickshaw Stop. Rowdy crowd, meet stacks of amplifiers—Ty, Charlie, Mikal and Emily came to singe your ears off. There have been live recordings of Ty before, of course, but never so crisply and fully realized as this scorching platter of fuzz.

As always, the cover artwork showcases beautiful black and white photos shot to film at the venue by Castle Face’s favorite lensman Brian Pritchard. As always, the tape takes are tweaked and saturated to perfection by their incredible crack team of engineers and knobgoblins. Live in San Francisco features jams from throughout Mr. Segall’s torrential output of the past few years, including a take of the first single “Feel” off his great new record Manipulator. It’s the next best thing to getting in to the show, which is getting harder and harder with Ty these days…

                                                                7. Thank God For The Sinners
                                                                8. Skin

                                                                Cluster

                                                                Japan Live

Cluster (Dieter Moebius, Hans-Joachim Roedelius) are considered pioneers of electronic music and key Krautrock protagonists. In the late 1960s, together with Konrad Schnitzler as the trio Kluster, they changed the world of music for ever with their radical improvisations. Having split from Schnitzler, Moebius and Roedelius continued as Cluster, releasing eight further milestones of electronic and ambient music up until 1981, two of them with Brian Eno. In 1990 they returned to the fray with their "Apropos" album. The tracks collected here are gleaned from live performances in Osaka and Tokyo in 1996. In technical terms, and all the more so musically, the recordings are on a par with meticulously prepared studio productions. The material thus provides an ideal opportunity to compare Cluster music of the past and the present (1996!).

This reissue is a new, reworked version. Originally released 1997 on Captain Trip Records. New artwork. Liner notes by Asmus Tietchens. First time on vinyl.

                                                                  Cluster

                                                                  USA Live

Cluster (Dieter Moebius, Hans-Joachim Roedelius) are considered pioneers of electronic music and key Krautrock protagonists. In the late 1960s, together with Konrad Schnitzler as the trio Kluster, they changed the world of music for ever with their radical improvisat-ions. Having split from Schnitzler, Moebius and Roedelius continued as Cluster, releasing eight further milestones of elect-ronic and ambient music up until 1981, two of them with Brian Eno. In 1990 they returned to the fray with their "Apropos" album. Halfway through the decade they toured Japan ("Japan 1996 live") and the USA. The American episode saw Cluster frequently return to their roots. The duo's performances were less on the mellifluous side, rather more uncomfortable and rugged.
The recordings released in 1997 on Purple Pyramid as a double CD (entitled "First Encounter Tour") have been reworked and reselected in collaboration with the musicians.

On vinyl for the first time! New artwork.

                                                                    The Shadows Of Knight

                                                                    Live 1966

Besides releasing two classic longplayers and many more singles (including the smash, “Gloria”), touring/behaving badly all across America and appearing on TV shows like ‘Upbeat’ and ‘Where The Action Is’, the Shadows of Knight also ruled at suburban Chicago’s hands-down hippest teen club, The Cellar. Over the decades, their Cellar performances have become the stuff of legend.

Miraculously, two reels of tape of the Shadows of Knight live on stage at the Cellar (in 1966!) were eventually uncovered by Sundazed. As early as their ‘Gloria’ album debut in spring ’66, the Shadows of Knight had separated themselves from the garage band pack with a heavily Chicago Blues-based, wildly rocking repertoire. Their trademark sound is on full display in this attitude-drenched, anarchic live recording from late in that exalted year.

For this expanded edition, the original sets and correct song sequence have been faithfully restored. And to top that, additional and until now completely unheard bonus material is rescued from those old reels. Specifically, added to an already scorching set are previously-unheard takes of “Peepin’ and Hidin’” (sung by blues legend Joe Kelley), “Willie Jean” (with a vocal from drummer Tom Schiffour) and “Any Way That You Want Me”. Equally important, the packaging now equals the musical contents thanks to an all-new, eye grabbing sleeve highlighted by John Hora’s amazing original photography from ’66.

Unlike their comparatively harnessed studio recordings, the Shadows of Knight are presented here raw ‘n’ alive, sloppy bordering on brilliant and with all the subtlety of a bulldozer. Would you want ‘em any other way?

                                                                      TRACK LISTING

This one-off live recording saw John performing much of his celebrated catalogue with the 60-piece BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, with arrangements by his long-time collaborator Fiona Brice.

So good was the performance, and also in response to public demand, Bella Union are delighted to announce that the recording will be released in a few weeks time on 1st December. The recording should also serve as a memento (of sorts) for John's upcoming sold-out orchestral tour with the Royal Northern Sinfonia which will see him performing in some of the UK's most prestigious venues.

This was right around the time I became obsessed with Icky Boyfriends. I would play the shit all day and wax about how I much I loved them. He piped up one day and asked what they were called again. ‘Icky Boyfriends,’ I said. ‘Oh yeah, I remember those guys…man, they could clear a room.’ “That’s the Ickys—an acquired taste for people who maybe have eyes that feel natural when trolling the gutter for nutrition. These are stories of strung-out super heroes singing the praises of the old school San Francisco freak scene. Hilarious at times, genius always and as scuzzy as anything you could ever hear. “Live in San Francisco was recorded masterfully by the Castle Face engineers team at the grand SF Eagle. There are many classic favorites here, as well as a couple new jams (I challenge anyone to tell the difference). We’ve kept it primal and simple as the Ickys always have. What a treat, now let’s eat!” - John Dwyer

The band has existed in some form ever since, and is essentially built around its founder and only constant member Mark E. Smith. Initially associated with the punk movement of the late 1970s, the group's music has gone through several stylistic changes over the years, but is often characterized by an abrasive guitar-driven sound and frequent use of repetition, and is always underpinned by Smith's distinctive vocals and often cryptic lyrics.

Spaceman uses Millions' free style of drumming as a cue to eschew the pop melodies and structures he worked with on his last release, 2012's, Sweet Heart, Sweet Light. The record's first side - titled ""Misha"" - features 24-minutes of Spaceman’s minimal guitar and piano parts along with Millions’ eclectic, yet subtle drumming. The pairing of these elements yields a dreamy and celestial atmosphere that could compare with anything from Spaceman’s famously mind-altering catalog. Side two of the 12"" - titled ""Han"" - focuses more on the chaotic nature of the two musicians’ past. Spaceman makes use of his distortion, tremolo and wah-wah pedals, while Millions goes into full freakout mode on the drums, never allowing the audience to fully lock into a groove. The duo steadily builds and eases tension, keeping the listener fully engaged over the track’s 21-and-a-half minute runtime. As mentioned before, accompanying the LP will be a 7"" featuring two cuts - ""New York"" and ""London"" - that showcase Spaceman's more rock inspired noise stylings and Millions' absolute disregard for consistency and predictability.

"A great rock guitarist needs a signature affectation. Ethan Miller's happens to be an abrupt upstrum that, combined with a backward stagger, probably makes him something of an onstage hazard to his bandmates. When he really gets into it, as he does with elemental regularity, the Howlin Rain leader resembles a spasmodic marionette under the influence of a power greater than himself - call it the power of rawk. With his long thinning hair and big black beard, Miller also sometimes resembles a defrocked rabbi on the run. And when he opens his mouth, the history of classic arena-rock vocals passes before your ears in a full-throated wail, embracing the combined spirits of Bruce Springsteen, Rod Stewart, Leslie West, Greg Rolie and the ghost of Freddy Mercury." - the Village Voice.

Recorded live in various locations on the 2012 worldwide tour for The Russian Wilds, the live 2XLP features vintage Howlin Rain originals including "Roll On The Rusted Days," "Dancers At The End Of Time" and "Hung Out In The Rain" plus The Russian Wilds' "Phantom In The Valley" and an 11-minute plus version of "Self Made Man."

Live Rain was recorded by David Streit, mixed by Tim Green and produced by Ethan P. Miller.

On Wednesday 5 June 2013 Billy Bragg played a very special show at The Union Chapel in London, featuring songs from his acclaimed March 2013 album ‘Tooth & Nail’ as well as classics from his back catalogue.

This unique DVD/CD souvenir of that performance, which includes bonus features and extras, is released on Cooking Vinyl. To Live Alone In That Long Summer

Canadian songwriter Barzin will release his fourth full-length album, To Live Alone In That Long Summer, on February 24th, 2014 on Monotreme Records. His past work has won acclaim from NPR Music “Song of The Day”,Salon.com, Stereogum, Uncut, Exclaim!, and La Blogotheque among others. To Live Alone... follows his well-received 2009 album Notes To An Absent Lover, praised by Mojo Magazine as “Americana Album of The Month”.

To Live Alone In That Long Summer explores such themes as loneliness, intimacy, and connection between strangers. Modern life in the fast paced environment of the city provides the backdrop to the narrative of these songs. Whilst still embracing a relatively minimalist aesthetic, the songs alternate between up and down-tempo, with arrangements that envelope the listener like the warm glow of fading daylight. “All the While”, one of the highlights of the album, is at once both elegiac and hopeful, with its bright guitar and brisk tempo underpinned by mournful strings and Barzin’s soft, melancholy vocals. The dark, percussive “In The Dark You Can Love This Place” lends an exotic nocturnal feel with its winding woodwinds. Another standout track, “Fake It ‘til You Make It, is a lush, sweeping cinematic pop number. Barzin has recently pursued projects outside his own songwriting, including assisting in producing his compatriots Memoryhouse’s recent album, The Slideshow Effect (Subpop Records). He has also written a book of poems entitled, "Something I Have Not Done Is Following Me."

                                                                                              Rory Scovel

                                                                                              Live At Third Man Records

A few months back we hosted one of our favorite comedians in the Third Man Blue Room, hand selected by Jack White to appear. Rory Scovel came, saw and destroyed any and all bad vibes within a 5 mile radius with an improv set of some of the best live stand up we've seen in years. Seriously, the man far exceeded even our lofty expectations for hilarity. Since then Rory has had a bumper few months, appearing on Conan O' Brien in a tuxedo performing uber-classy comedy with live LIberace-style piano accompaniment, co-starring on new TBS comedy Ground Floor and generally ruling the school and jettisoning jocularity into the universe in every town and festival he visits on tour.

Well if you missed his now legendary Third Man live show, fear not and save your tears, it is now available on LP and available in finer record retailers everywhere.

Oh, and one last thing for our UNUSUAL FORMAT collectors and fans… The sleeves and labels feature the track list all in braille. That's right. Braille. Trust us, it'll all make sense when you hear the album. It's another meta-comedy first from Third Man Records and Rory Scovel!

BEHOLD - when we introduced this live series we spoke of lightning in a jar - this here's a thunderstorm. Ty Segall's new stoner thrashers FUZZ not only totally murdered this set at San Francisco leather-daddy hangout The SF Eagle, but it was Ty's birthday and he blew out his birthday cake candles mid song, didn't miss a beat, and that moment is forever etched into this record (we took a photo too). The place was insanely packed and they sound like the agile wolf-men they are up close and personal - Ty, mic wailing through a guitar amp and dominating drums like it's the easiest thing in the world, Charlie - guitar set to Hendrix-meets-Hawkwind melter-mode, and Roland keeping his bass firmly lodged in the groove - the jams are thick and wooly, we got some great photos of the night - man, this was one to remember and we're super excited we captured such a freakishly good performance. As always, captured hot to tape and mixed and massaged by our crack team of speaker-freakers (Chris Woodhouse, Eric Bauer, Bob Marshall, and John Dwyer) and shot to nicely grainy (real) film by Brian Pritchard.

‘Live from KCRW' is a live radio session recorded in Los Angeles in April 2013 & is the fourth official live album in the band's history.

After what seemed like a very long, drunken, tense-with-anticipation waiting period, the moment is upon me. The band takes the stage, and immediately launches into a big-sounding version of The Joke. Mark bounds onto the stage and starts bellowing into the mic with intensity: "The Joke! Five years in a PC camp, the Joke!" "Ahh," I think, "they're not going to totally suck." This latest incarnation of the Fall includes three hard-working lads named Ben, Spencer, and Jim, who know their shit something fierce. This is an incredibly tight band that is gaining momentum at the expense of every amateurish musician ever to mistakenly step onto the stage. Mr. Smith himself was in fine form, prowling around the stage snarling lyrics into the mic and messing around with his bandmates' amps (but not too much - I have to stress that his behavior was fairly clean on this tour). He seemed to be on something besides straight-up "joie de vivre," but that is hardly an aberration. This man and his friends like to do drugs, and have done since the early days of the band in 1977. Whatever, it's rock and roll. What matters is the music, which was strong. The band was a juggernaut with a mad genius at the helm. Picture a massive battleship with wheels rolling over small towns with a mad banshee snarling and hurning invective down at those foolish enough to stand in the way. Mark E. Smith is an incredibly self-assured performer who exudes more charisma standing still than most lead singers do hopping around and climbing on things. The biggest stormer of the evening was "I Am Damo Suzuki," MES' tribute to one of his favorite bands, Can. One of the first lyrics, "and the drums....come in...and the drums they come in FAST" sent shivers down my spine as the drummer started bashing out the catchier-than-strep beat. In general, the set got faster, louder, and generally "more" towards the end. I think it was during the cover "Mr. Pharmacist" that the energy really started picking up. "Two Librans" off of the Unutterable was also pretty powerful--both because the massive guitar chord hook style of these songs suits the new band pretty well. So now for the $64 million question: are the Fall over? Even worse, were they over a long time ago? The answer, to anyone who is still paying attention, is resoundingly no. This band can fill the GAMH with people going nuts. They are a monument, but unlike other monuments, they continue to create. As Smith once barked, "Ours is not to look back, ours is to continue the crap!" Indeed.

                                                                                                  Live 81-82

Though various live releases had emerged over the course of the band’s existence, no full-length capturing of the Party’s particular bacchanalia approved by the group had officially emerged until this release.

“Stitching together tracks from a London date in 1981 and a German show in 1982 (plus a ringer cut from Athens, Greece - a version of The Stooges’ ‘Funhouse’ with Jim Thirwell aka Foetus on sax), ‘Live 81-82’ threatens at all points to leap from the speakers and throttle innocent bystanders. Clear sound on the first ten songs, all from the London date, makes resistance even harder. Given the sometimes (though intentionally) unclear or unexpected mixing of Party songs in studio, hearing everything via in-your-face stun methods brings out the abilities of the band all the more, especially Pew and his vicious bass work.

“Songs like ‘The Dim Locator’ and ‘King Ink’ cut all the more closer to the bone as a result. ‘Nick The Stripper’, amazingly, is even more viciously sleazy than the original, which is saying something and a half; Cave sounds like he’s summoning his voice from his shoes on up. The German date’s sound is only slightly less thorough than the London’s, and the performances no less wired. ‘Big-Jesus-Trash-Can’ thrashes around like there’s no tomorrow, Pew’s bass again shooting through the mix, while ‘The Friend Catcher’ seethes with a creepy, frigid energy. Harvey takes over on drums for the last two German tracks and the ‘Funhouse’ cover, but even down to four people the band still generates more noise and activity than most other acts could hope to achieve.

“Definite bonus points have to go to Cave for his occasional, softly spoken between-song asides - “Thank you, I love your haircuts as well.” - Ned Raggett, All Music Guide

'"All I see is fake love, smiles, and overbites, but I'm pimping," assures A$AP Rocky on "Suddenly", the final track from his masterpiece debut "LONG.LIVE.A$AP".

It's a brooding and brilliant rumination on fame replete with soulful samples amidst minimalist haunting production. He name checks Busta Rhymes, Puff Daddy, and Eazy-E, but he's most certainly his own man, especially declaring, "This ain't no conscious rap".

That's the most interesting aspect of "LONG.LIVE.A$AP". He's so talented that it almost sounds like it's not conscious. Album opener "Long Live A$AP" rolls through hollowed out tones as he ponders, "I thought I'd probably die in prison". His inflection hits hard just before dropping into an eerie yet irresistible chorus.

The record thrives on those dark contradictions, and it's another reason why the album remains one of the most intriguing hip hop records in years. Santigold pops up for a frenetic cameo on "Hell", while "Fuckin' Problems" might as well be a master class in 21st century rap with 2 Chainz, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, and A$AP all tearing up a beat together. The most mind-blowing genre-mashing happens during "Wild for the Night" where Skrillex goes buck wild with our narrator.

As the last strains of "Suddenly" taper off, it's clear that A$AP has officially arrived as a rap leader. This is the first classic rap album of 2013 and the beginning of a legacy.

                                                                                                    Long live A$AP Rocky.'

The Icarus Line, a proper rock and roll gang, led by the fearsome Joe Cardamone, toured the UK in October 2011 in support of their Wildlife album. With stand in drummer Sammy as their drummer quit just before boarding the plane!! they slammed it, this was feral rock and roll grime, even original bass player Lance Arnao was back in the fold, someone recorded the London show.. and here it is, pressed on some limited edition vinyl..raw, bleeding, and a good indication of how the Icarus Line are...oh yes.. 100 copies only for the UK.

"I'm Gonna Live" is the second single taken from the album Skyline and is presented in limited edition 7" format. Inspired by the title of the Alan Lomax's Southern Journey 1959 album "I'm Gonna Live Until I Die" the title track focuses on the tiny pleasures of life as Yann sings about the tiny moments that make him feel alive.

The single is backed with an instrumental version of "Vanishing Point" in which Yann uses samples of instruments and noises from all the other tracks on his own album 'Skyline', compiling them together to form this haunting final track.

Recorded live November 9th 1970 at Queen Elizabeth Hall in the South Bank Centre, "Live In London 1970" captures Ra and his many pals in full jazzprov mode. This was Sun Ra's first UK appearance, and he brought along fire eaters, golden robed dancers and 16 musicians. Tornadoes of percussion, eerie cello glissandi, ferocious blasts and tendrils of electronic sound from Ra's Farfisa organ and Moog syth all made this a bit of a free-jazz psychedelic happening. This double CD recording captures it all, if all in a little bit 'cassette recorder from the audience' lo-fi mode.

                                                                                                          I Live Here Now

With the release of "I Live Here Now", Bloomington, Indiana’s Tammar gets the Peel Session that, in another place and time, would have surely been due. Captured over three live performances at Bloomington’s Russian Recording in July/August of 2009 and mixed by Zero Boys’ Paul Mahern at Echo Park Studios, this collection of post-punk anthem variations is a testament to why Tammar is one of the midwest’s most exciting bands, be it in the live setting or when laid to tape.

Like a less austere, more exuberant Section 25, the Factory Records sound is maybe the lowest hanging, most easily plucked fruit on the Tammar tree. But for the eager ear, there are a variety of flavours at play: Dave Walter’s triumphant vocal explorations serve as a welcome renovation of Yoko Ono’s most melodic moments or James’ early 90s work with Brian Eno, always finding that golden hook through his phrasing and rephrasing. The subtle layers of Sarah Wyatt Swanson’s drums and Josephine McRobbie’s percussion as they build and build through each song are at once tribal and deft. Evan Whikehart’s triumphant guitar progressions take The Edge to the art spaces and basements where that true“edge” really exists. And the elastic low-end of Ben Swanson’s analog keyboard serves as the strange, dark foundation for all these songs.

Engineered byMikeBridavsky & DaveVettraino, Bloomington’s Erin Tobey also appears as guest vocalist.

                                                                                                            TRACK LISTING

I Mean To Live Here Still

The first collaboration between David Karsten Daniels and Fight The Big Bull, "I Mean To Live Here Still" is the product of two decidedly individual, but musically (and geographically) distant sets of musicians.

David Karsten Daniels is an immensely talented, formally-trained composer/musician with a background in hymn singing and four-track experimentation, and a release history of gentle, acoustic, plaintive folk music embellished with touches of orchestration and jazz.

Following on from Daniels’ "Sharp Teeth" and "Fear Of Flying" albums, this record is a lush contribution to a stunning personal canon and an album that transcends influence, tradition and climate.

Fight The Big Bull are a nonet led by composer / arranger / guitarist Matthew White, exist loosely in the Duke Ellington / Charles Mingus / Ornette Coleman plane of jazz, yet are fiercely, often unpredictably, unique.

                                                                                                              TRACK LISTING

                                                                                                              Live At Royal Albert Hall

On November 2nd 2007, Jason Swinscoe brought an enhanced line-up of the The Cinematic Orchestra, incorporating the 24 piece Heritage Orchestra, to the Royal Albert Hall and played a show to a sold-out crowd of more than 4000 people. With over 40 musicians onstage at times, Swinscoe and his colleagues used the show as a unique opportunity to open out his chamber pieces into intense, beautiful and exquisitely realised epics which left the huge audience baying for more. Featuring vocal contributions from Heidi Vogel, Lou Rhodes (formerly of Lamb) and Grey Reverend, plus the return of original member PC on turntables, an intense, beautiful night is captured here in all its glory. History as it's lived, human emotion, love and rapture. You can feel it in the hairs on the back of your neck.

                                                                                                                Circle

Approximately the seventh full length Circle release this year - is an hour-long snapshot of the band's recent tour of the USA. The concert (recorded in September in Charlottesville, Virginia) thunders and wobbles onwards with unprocessed authenticity. The recording effectively captures the full spectrum of Circle's contemporary live expression, revealing to us a glimpse of the spiritual landscapes of the most astonishing speedkraut pioneers of our times. There's an abundance of ritualistic rumbling to be discovered between the twitchy hard rock show opener "Uusi Uhraus" and "Kaappikellon Kummitus", the ravishing Rättö Ja Lehtisalo cover song that closes the album. Rakennus displays the joy of playing music in its most pure form.

                                                                                                                  The Enemy

We'll Live And Die In These Towns

Coventry's The Enemy round of an amazing year for them with the release of the title track of their debut album "We'll Live And Die In These Towns".

                                                                                                                    Harmonia

                                                                                                                    Live 1974

The legendary Harmonia's first release in 31 years. While it's a live recording, there's no gig atmosphere - simply the sound of a band locked into a groove. "Live 1974" is a gig recording capturing Michael Rother (NEU!), Dieter Moebius and Hans-Joachim Roedelius jamming with that typical impassive euphoria. It is more in the vein of their first album "Musik Von Harmonia": imagine the humming seascape pieces from "Neu! 75" augmented by the gently chattering rhythm patterns of Cluster's "Zuckerzeit". A recording that sounds as fresh as any work of their Krautrock influenced peers of today - Aphex Twin, Fujiya & Miyagi and Secret Machines come to mind. The five lengthy tracks here have an enveloping momentum that makes them feel like they could, or indeed should, go on forever.

Ainotamenishis is a loud, heavy guitar group from Tokyo who were birthed from one oviduct marked 'Velvet Underground' and a massive salpinx marked 'Gaseneta'. Their high-energy rock'n'roll action was first captured on an extremely limited CDR release, now released for the first time on vinyl. Ainotamenishis's brand of controlled panic is sure to spike the tongues of all those who purport to talk about the rock. It is primal, punk, eerie, harsh, and utterly essential.

                                                                                                                        Os Mutantes

In terms of their status and influence Os Mutantes are often referred to as the Brazilian Beatles. How did 60s Brazil produce the wildest, most psychedelic rock'n'roll group of them all? And why, three decades on, has the rest of the world gone crazy over them? Kurt Cobain, Beck, Super Furry Animals, The Bees and David Byrne are just a few of the musicians that have flown the flag for Os Mutantes. Against all odds, in May 2006 the band reunited for the first time in over 30 years for a euphoric show at the Barbican's Tropicalia Festival. The recording of this historic concert, with special guests Devendra Banhart and Noah Georgeson, is now released on CD and DVD. The live album features the best-loved tracks of this legendary group and the full-length DVD includes the entire Barbican concert plus documentary, backstage footage, video clips and photos.

Tipped as one of the most vital breakthrough bands of 2007, The Enemy follow their Top 10 hit single "Away From Here" with the release of their eagerly anticipated debut album "We'll Live And Die In These Towns". Forceful, hook filled tales of disaffection and discontent, kicking against the conformity of modern life.

The 1971 Concert is the second album in the performance series. On January 19, 1971, Neil Young performed at Massey Hall in Toronto, Canada. In many ways, this was a major homecoming event. He had left Canada in 1966, soon becoming a member of Buffalo Springfield in Los Angeles, then recording his self-titled debut solo album in 1968. That was followed by "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere" with Crazy Horse, then Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young's "Déjà vu" in 1970 and his best-selling album "After The Gold Rush." By the time Young came back to Canada for the Massey Hall concert, he had become one of the most exciting and successful singer-songwriters in rock. Neil Young was performing solo that evening in Toronto, playing many of his well-known songs like "Down by the River," "Ohio" and "I Am a Child." But he also included several new originals that would be featured on his next new album, "Harvest," which had not been released yet, like "Old Man," "The Needle And The Damage Done" and "Heart of Gold". 'This is the album that should have come out between "After The Gold Rush" and "Harvest",' Young says now. 'David Briggs, my producer, was adamant that this should be the record, but I was very excited about the takes we got on "Harvest" and wanted "Harvest" out. David disagreed. As I listen to this today, I can see why'.

                                                                                                                            Live At Fillmore East

The first release from Neil Young's long awaited Archive Performance series is here with "Live At The Fillmore East". In 2006, Neil Young delivered another hit album, "Living With War", and toured with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Thirty-six years earlier, in 1970, Young toured with CSN&Y and released his platinum album "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere", after which he performed a series of shows at New York City's then-new Fillmore East with his band Crazy Horse. That concert finally makes its official debut in the annals of rock history with "Live At The Fillmore East", and the circle is unbroken for one of rock's greatest singer-songwriters.

                                                                                                                              The Fall

                                                                                                                              Seminal Live

The Fall's contractual obligation album. With Brix leaving (or left, depending on your history) the group, this is a hastily assembled selection of what sound like Frenz Experiment outtakes and nine live tracks, their last for Beggars Banquet. These opening five tracks would have made a nice EP supporting the single "Deadbeat Descendant," the first song featured on the album. They're not among their best, but "H.O.W. (History of the World)" has a certain grim stateliness to it, with a grungy bassline by Hanley leading the group. "Pinball Machine" continues in Smith's long line of rockabilly covers.

                                                                                                                                Electrelane

                                                                                                                                Singles, B-Sides & Live

Electrelane are a band with a relatively long history – three albums and an EP as well as several singles over six years – yet their consistently uncompromising attitude and ability to release outstandingly fresh and unique records has kept them somewhat of an enigma, with each record feeling like a re-birth and the beginning of something very special. "Singles, B-Sides & Live" is not only a celebration of Electrelane's diverse work but also the first time that rare, non-album tracks have been available on one compilation. It includes limited 7" releases from Fierce Panda and Indenial as well as singles released on Electrelane's own label Let's Rock before signing to present label Too Pure in 2003.

Live At Leigh Rock Festival 1979

The 1979 Leigh Rock Festival has become legendary for the outstanding bill of up and coming bands that played on the third day of the festival in 1979. The full sets of four of those bands, including most importantly Joy Division, are featured on this two CD set plus one track from one of the lesser known bands on the bill who start their track with an announcement for Factory's Tony Wilson. The running order of the two CD set is Disc One: Joy Division - 11 tracks, Eltifits - one track, A Certain Ratio - six tracks. Disc Two: Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark eight tracks, Teardrop Explodes nine tracks. What strikes you is the rawness of the bands' sets at this festival- a great live document- and this is a newly remastered version of The Joy Division set - all these recordings have come from live recordings organised by the original Leigh Festrival organisers back in 1979.

How Many Times Do We Live?

Tribute To Nothing have been an institution on the European punk scene for over a decade now and have gained much respect on their travels. "How Many Times Do We Live?" captures their intense, unique, powerfully melodic yet aggressive sound, and gives an insight into where the band has been for the last few years and where they are headed in future days.

                                                                                                                                      Agnostic Front

Live set on dual disc CD/DVD, from one of the world's only original hardcore bands going today.

                                                                                                                                        Bob Dylan

Live 1964 Concert At Philharmonic Hall - The Bootleg Series Vol. 6

The show is divided into the standards that made his name and the longer, experimental pieces ("It's Alright Ma ...") that emerged on the then unreleased "Bringing It All Back Home". One time only fan club pressing of this Radio 4 "Live In France" LP. It was recorded live in Paris in the spring of 2003. The sound quality is great, in fact it sounds like it came straight off the board. There were 1000 pressed and when they are gone, that's it...no more will follow.

A hyper-charged blast-out of Stooges-fueled punk rock, delivered with tight rhythms, powerful riffs, tons of adrenaline, and plenty of destruction in mind.

                                                                                                                                              Strung Out

There's even an Ozzy Osbourne cover version -NICE! The disc is also a CD-ROM, featuring live videos and an interview of the band conducted by Fat Mike.

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds

                                                                                                                                                Live Seeds

Recorded at various concerts throughout Europe and Australia in 1992 and 1993. All of the classics are featured here, "Deanna", "The Ship Song", "Papa Won't Leave You Henry", "Tupelo", "Jack The Ripper", "From Her To Eternity" and many more. But none of those tracks eclipse the live energy of the utterly superb "The Mercy Seat". 13 tracks that showcase the genius and power of Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds in the live setting.

                                                                                                                                                  Selling Live Water

Brilliant second LP from Anticon's Sole. He spills multi-layered freeform rhymes over dense, avant rhythms that are co-produced by Cloudead's Odd Nosdam, Themselves' Jel (who also adds turntablist cuts) and Restiform Bodies' Telephone Jim Jesus.

Boysetsfire are one of the best hardcore bands on the planet. Their classic "After The Eulogy" set new standards of passion, commitment and raw energy. This new mini album, a taster for the album to be issued early next year, is another stormin' session. "Live For Today" features four brand new tracks plus live versions of two tracks from "After The Eulogy".

Odd-ball covers and well known tracks - it's a ramblin', gamblin', good-time-drinkin', roadhouse rumblin', party-time country hoo-haw recorded in Dallas, Austin, and San Diego. Its 18 tracks and almost 70 minutes worth of pure bootleg dyna-mite.

                                                                                                                                                        The Dillards

Flagbearers in the early 1960s in the roots music revival, the Dillards reintroduced bluegrass into popular conciousness and carrying on the work of Earl Scruggs and Bill Monroe in reintroducing the music of Missouri and the American backwoods. By the time they released "Live!!! Almost!!!" in 1964 they had gone electric and were early progenitors of 'country rock'. They were an influence on the Byrds and many other rock acts of the late 1960s and these two Elektra label reissues are amongst their most definitive recordings.
