          Prince

          Originals

Prince will forever be remembered as a commanding live performer, chart-topping recording artist, and music business revolutionary. Yet for all the time he spent in the spotlight over his four-decade-long career, Prince also worked tirelessly behind the scenes to nurture talent and pen songs for the rising artists he respected.

Sourced directly from Prince’s vast archive of Vault recordings, ORIGINALS is a brand new 15-track album featuring 14 previously unreleased recordings that illuminates the vital, behind-the-scenes role Prince played in other artists’ careers. These are more than just demos, the production quality has been kept high and the recordings resemble a pristine quality similar to that of Nothing Compares 2 U released last year.

By the mid-1980s, Prince was dominating the charts even as a writer/producer with songs he’d composed and recorded for others. In addition to releasing nine of his most commercially successful full-length albums, he also wrote and recorded endless reels of material for proteges The Time, Vanity 6, Sheila E., Apollonia 6, Jill Jones, the Family, and Mazarati. Several of the iconic songs found on ORIGINALS were considerable hits for the artists who recorded them.

They released their debut album ‘Specials’ in 1979, followed by ‘More Specials’ in 1980. Laura says: Along with Madness, The Selecter and The Beat, The Specials were at the forefront of the ska revival which injected a much needed energy into the bleakness of the late 70s / early 80s. They wrote about growing up in a city with all that entailed at the time. Listening to this compilation some 30-odd years on, and the songs still stand up, both musically and lyrically: much of the subject matter is as relevant now is it was back then.

Gram Parsons debut solo album, originally released in 1973.

Fresh from stints with the International Submarine Band, the Flying Burrito Bros and the Byrds and after hipping the Stones to country music, the godfather of Cosmic Americana picked up Emmylou Harris and Elvis's backing band and cut his solo debut. With more of an emphasis of ballads than on previous records, "GP" inspired countless teary-eyed troubadours with classics like "She" and the gorgeous "A Song For You".

Contains the additional 7" vinyl with the tracks:

As with so many other sophomore albums released under the shadow of such an epochal debut (witness The Stone Roses, Clash etc), "Adventure" is an unfairly maligned gem ripe for 'lost classic' status. Many of the longer instrumental passages are gone, replaced by a slightly more polished production and keyboards. Nonetheless there are some amazing songs present here, the catchy "Glory", live favourite "Foxhole" which almost swaggers, and probably their most undervalued song, "Carried Away", a gorgeous ballad led by tremelo guitar and organ with loads of those truly heartstopping chord changes.

The Deluxe Edition will also compile a generous hatful of International single B-sides, studio outtakes and several previously unreleased tracks to present an essential view into the extraordinary body of work from one of the most influential and enduring rock bands of all-time.

Some the aural treasures found on disc 3 are among the rarest recorded curios in The Lips musical medicine chest including the previously unreleased demo track “Zero To A Million” which features The Lips short-lived line-up that included Jonathan Donahue on guitar (Mercury Rev) and Nathan Roberts on drums. This track was on the original cassette tape which led to The Lips Warner Bros. Records signing. Another early obscurity “Jets (Cupid’s Kiss Vs. the Psyche of Death)” is one of the three tracks from The Lips first-ever WBR CD EP, Yeah, I Know It's A Drag...Wastin' Pigs Is Still Radical.

Various tracks included here that have never been available on CD until now include the epic, fan favorite “The Captain” which was left off The Soft Bulletin and a welcome addition to this set. “We Can’t Predict The Future” is taken from a June 2000 John Peel BBC Session. “Your Face Can Tell The Future”, and “You Gotta Hold On” are outtakes from At War With The Mystics sessions. Another rare gem, “Noodling Theme”, is from the 2001 Lips soundtrack to director Bradley Beesley’s indie-film "Okie Noodling" about bare-handed fishing in Oklahoma. Those lucky enough to attend early screenings were handed a copy of this now ultra-rare 3-song CD upon entry. “Spiderman Vs Muhammed Ali”, originally recorded for 2007’s Music from and Inspired by Spider-Man 3 soundtrack has never released in any form. Prior to this collection, “Enthusiasm For Life Defeats Existential Fear Part 2” existed on a USB drive -- along with two other tracks -- buried within the edible Gummy Fetus sold on tour in 2011. Closing out the collection is “Silent Lord” which is comprised of The Lips mash-up of “Silent Night” with Spacemen 3’s “Lord, Can You Hear Me” from a Christmas 2008 limited edition 7” picture disc.

This previously unreleased version was recorded in 1984, six years before 1990’s classic reimagining by Sinéad O'Connor and 15 years before the rest of world adopted Prince's syntactic lead with the release of the 3210. The track was recorded at the Flying Cloud Drive 'Warehouse' in Eden Prairie by Prince’s long-time engineer Susan Rogers, and originally composed, arranged and performed in its entirety by Prince, aside from the backing vocals by Susannah Melvoin and Paul "St. Paul" Peterson and Eric Leeds' stunning saxophone work. In case you're one of the 14 people in the world who doesn't know this track, it's Prince in full funk ballad pomp, pouring his heart and soul into utterly impactful, everyday lyricism about a fading love, while riffing, synthing and grooving his way through a slow soul backing.

“Dock Of The Bay Sessions” was compiled with input from Roger Armstrong of Ace Records and Otis biographer Jonathan Gould and has the Redding family’s full endorsement. Although the individual tracks have been previously released across a smattering of posthumous albums and compilations, this marks the first time they have been assembled to resemble what this album could possibly have been.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the album’s opening track “(Sittin’ On) The Dock Of The Bay,” one of the last songs Redding ever recorded. Released in January 1968, it soon topped the charts in March 16th in the US becoming the first posthumous #1 single in the history of the U.S. music charts. It also reached number 3 in the UK, and went on to sell more than four million copies worldwide.

Scratching The Door: The First Recordings Of The Flaming Lips

The Flaming Lips have pushed the envelope and bent boundaries for more than two decades with the band’s Grammy®-winning music and ground-breaking concerts.

Scratching The Door highlights tracks recorded by The Flaming Lips’ original line-up, which featured Wayne Coyne’s brother Mark on vocals. The album includes the band’s first and second cassette demos, in addition to The Flaming Lips first self-released EP, and marks the first time all of these recordings have been collected together on a single release. Among the other featured tracks are covers of The Who’s “Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere,” Led Zeppelin’s “Communication Breakdown” and the theme song from the 1960’s Batman television series, which previously appeared on Rykodisc’s 2002 compilation, Finally The Punk Rockers Are Taking Acid.

All of the music on Scratching The Door has been remastered from original sources by the band’s longtime musical foil and producer, David Fridmann with help from the Lips’ Wayne Coyne and Michael Ivins.

                                                                          Forever Changes (50th Anniversary)

Love’s Forever Changes is the psychedelic folk-rock pioneers’ finest achievement. Mostly overlooked when it was released in 1967, today the album is considered an indispensable masterpiece. In 2008, it was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, and – in 2012 – the Library of Congress added it to the National Recording Registry.

Love are celebrating the acclaimed album’s golden anniversary with an extensive 4CD/DVD/LP collection housed in a beautifully illustrated 12 x 12 hardbound book that features a newly written essay and track-by-track notes by music historian Ted Olsen.

Recorded during the Summer of Love in Hollywood, CA, Forever Changes is the group’s most fully realized studio effort, featuring Arthur Lee (vocals, guitar), Johnny Echols (lead guitar), Bryan MacLean (rhythm guitar, vocals), Ken Forssi (bass) and Michael Stuart (drums, percussion). The original album introduced classics like “Andmoreagain,” “Red Telephone,” “A House Is Not A Motel” and “Alone Again Or.”

The set features a few firsts for the album, including the CD-debut of a remastered version made by its original co-producer and engineer Bruce Botnick, as well as the first-ever release of the mono version on CD. Also included are alternate mixes of the album, as well as a selection of rare and unreleased singles and studio outtakes. Botnick’s stereo remaster of the original album makes its vinyl debut on the LP included with this set. It was cut from high resolution digital audio by celebrated audio engineer Bernie Grundman.

The DVD that accompanies the anniversary collection includes a 24/96 stereo mix of the album version of the original album remastered by Botnick. Also featured is “Your Mind And We Belong Together,” a rare promotional video directed by Elektra producer Mark Abramson that was originally released in 1968.

Forever Changes: 50th Anniversary Edition boasts more than a dozen rarities, including single versions of “Alone Again Or” and “A House Is Not A Motel” that are available now for the first time since 1967. Two other recordings on the set have never been released: the backing track for “Live And Let Live” and an outtake backing track for “Wonder People (I Do Wonder).”

Whereas 'Original Pirate Material' was a record that garnered acclaim from the electronic / dance fraternity and the forward-thinking wings of the rock / mainstream press, 'A Grand Don’t Come For Free' swept the board in prompting critical praise. This was the album that saw Skinner compared to the likes of Ray Davies and Paul Weller in evoking the glorious mess of everyday life. A striking concept album set to an inventive sonic backdrop, the seemingly prosaic tale of a young man unlucky in love (and, so it seems, money) is brought brilliantly to life in a barrage of astute lyrics, lurid tales and memorable hooks. Deservedly awarded a 9.1 review from Pitchfork, the record sees Skinner reveal his most vulnerable self: 'Dry Your Eyes' and 'Blinded By The Lights', in particular, manage to articulate painfully familiar feelings that appeal to music fans of every hue. This record marked Skinner’s creative peak, received international acclaim and, thanks to its distinctiveness, propelled its maker to the top of the musical tree.

Big Brother, Dom Jolly, Playstation 2, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo and Ronaldo, weak pills and cheap skunk, 3310s, foot and mouth, Soham and Pual Burrell - that was the world when "Original Pirate Material" first dropped in 2002 - blowing up Kazaa and Audiogalaxy and finding its way to your mate's CD player on an iffy CDr. To say it was a breath of fresh air is an understatement, this groundbreaking album filled the air with a green fug, challenged the yanks for the MCing crown and twisted the polished sheen of UKG into a laptop-crafted fusion of skanking bass and housey beats. While breakthough hit "Has It Come To This?", "Turn The Page" and "Let's Push Things Forward" remain era-defining anthems, every single track here is the tits. "Sharp Darts" sounds like an utterly wrong Wu Tang joint, "Same Old Thing" and "Geezer's Need Excitement" are rough, tough and proper grimey and "It's Too Late" is bloke-poetry on a heartbreaking anthem tip. Elsewhere "Don't Mug Yourself" royally takes the piss out of you on the back of the bus and "The Irony Of It All" offers a hilarious review of boozed up townies and stoned students. And then there's "Weak Become Heroes", the e'd up ravers anthem that's still the best track of that decade.

                                                                            Grateful Dead

The live albums the band released during its 30-year career are the primary source for the collection, including tracks like “Bertha” from Grateful Dead (Skull & Roses) (1971), “Fire On The Mountain” from Dead Set (1981), and “The Music Never Stopped” from One From the Vault (1991). A testament to its ongoing popularity, the revered double-album Europe ’72 (1972), is represented by no less than five tracks, including “Sugar Magnolia,” “Jack Straw” and a searing rendition of “Morning Dew.”

Other performances on the set were selected from the growing number of live releases that have emerged since the death of founding member Jerry Garcia in 1995. Some of those recordings include “Touch Of Grey” from Truckin’ Up To Buffalo (2005), a 1990 version of “Eyes Of The World” with saxophonist Branford Marsalis featured on Wake Up To Find Out (2014), and “Estimated Prophet,” which debuted earlier this year as part of Cornell 5/8/77, a recording of the Grateful Dead’s mythic show at Cornell University in 1977, thought by many to be the band’s greatest live performance.

Melded together and sequenced to replicate a single concert from beginning to end, the four-LP collection capture the band at the height of its formidable powers.

Ramones released its second album of the calendar year (and third overall) on November 4, 1977, capping off one of the biggest years in the history of punk with Rocket To Russia. Among the band’s best-loved albums, it features classics like “Sheena Is A Punk Rocker” and “Rockaway Beach” along with their signature covers of “Do You Wanna Dance?” and “Surfin’ Bird.” It’s also the last album ever recorded by all four founding members, as drummer Tommy Ramone left soon after to focus on writing and producing. Ramones – Ramones is one of the most important and influential albums of all time, with Rolling Stone naming it the Greatest Punk Album Of All Time. The album was a pioneer of the punk rock movement, with the band inspiring punk legends such as Sex Pistols, Buzzcocks and The Clash. It features one of the most famous rock songs in history with Blitzkrieg Bop - which constantly appears in many greatest songs of all time lists. This will feature the 2016 remastered audio from the 40th Anniversary Edition of Ramones.

(1995) and Being There (1996). On December 1, Wilco will revisit those landmark albums with remastered versions of the originals expanded with rare and unreleased music that will be new to even the most dedicated fans.

Deluxe Edition includes the original album plus eight unreleased bonus tracks that feature an early version of “Outtasite (Outta Mind)” and “When You Find Trouble,” which is the last studio recording made by Uncle Tupelo.

After his former band Uncle Tupelo broke up, singer/songwriter Jeff Tweedy took the bulk of the band—most notably bassist John Stirratt and drummer Ken Coomer—and quickly recorded Wilco’s 1995 debut, A.M. The album includes several fan favorites like “Casino Queen” and the funny-sad ode to drunk driving and unrequited love, “Passenger Side.”

There’s also an early version of “Needles And Pins” with Tommy on drums, the B-side single mix of “Babysitter,” an alternate version of “It’s A Long Way Back To Germany” with Dee Dee on vocals, an original radio promo with Joey Ramone, and more.

A highlight of this Deluxe Edition is the complete unreleased concert included on the third disc. This never-before-heard multi-track recording of the band’s December 19, 1977 show at the Apollo Centre in Glasgow, Scotland captures the Ramones just a few days before the group recorded the classic live album It’s Alive, and mixed for this 40th Anniversary edition by Ed Stasium. In Glasgow, they played songs from all three studio albums including “Blitzkrieg Bop,” “Judy Is A Punk,” “Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment,” and “California Sun.”

"Strange Days" (50th Anniversary Edition) was produced by the album’s original engineer Bruce Botnick. Accompanying the set are liner notes by music journalist David Fricke, as well as a selection of rare and previously unseen photographs.

Having a larger budget for Strange Days allowed the band to spend more time experimenting in the studio. They used an eight-track recorder for the first time, which resulted in some memorable overdubs like Krieger’s double-tracked guitar on “When The Music’s Over.” Surprisingly, the trippy keyboard sound heard on the album’s title track is actually one of the earliest appearances of a Moog synthesizer in a rock song.

Strange Days mixed new songs written on the road with some written before the band’s 1967 debut. In fact, the band performed “Strange Days” during its 1966 residency at the London Fog in L.A., while “My Eyes Have Seen You” dates back to 1965. Another early track is “Moonlight Drive,” which was one of the very first songs that the band practiced together, and where the band heard Krieger’s haunting bottleneck guitar playing for the first time. It’s also the song Morrison sang to Manzarek at Venice Beach in 1965 when the two former UCLA film students reconnected and decided to start the Doors.

The Doors - 180 Gram Stereo Version

Originally released in January 1967, and one of the most impressive debuts in rock history.

"A tremendous debut album, and indeed one of the best first-time outings in rock history, introducing the band's fusion of rock, blues, classical, jazz, and poetry with a knockout punch. The lean, spidery guitar and organ riffs interweave with a hypnotic menace, providing a seductive backdrop for Jim Morrison's captivating vocals and probing prose. "Light My Fire" was the cut that topped the charts and established the group as stars, but most of the rest of the album is just as impressive, including some of their best songs: the propulsive "Break on Through" (their first single), the beguiling mystery of "The Crystal Ship," the mysterious "End of the Night," "Take It as It Comes" (one of several tunes besides "Light My Fire" that also had hit potential), and the stomping rock of "Soul Kitchen" and "Twentieth Century Fox." The 11-minute Oedipal drama "The End" was the group at its most daring and, some would contend, overambitious. It was nonetheless a haunting cap to an album whose nonstop melodicism and dynamic tension would never be equaled by the group again, let alone bettered." - AllMusic.

                                                                                            Ooh La La

The Faces' 1973 valedictory effort was initially received in critical communities as something of a disappointment – a kind of hangover record following the vaulting heights of Long Player and A Nod Is As Good As A Wink … To A Blind Horse. Over the course of time, it has become the band's defining work. Blues-inspired workouts like "Cindy Incidentally" and "Glad And Sorry" demonstrate that the Faces have lost nothing off their considerable fastball, while the caution to the wind fuck-around "Borstal Boys" almost dares punk rock to happen. Finally we have Lane's ruminative title track at the album's conclusion – a gorgeous and wry concession to youth as a kind of slow gathering death. "I wish I knew what I know now / When I was younger" may qualify as the greatest and most knowing final salvo line ever authored by a truly legendary band.

For Sale: Live At Maxwell’s 1986

In February 1986, The Replacements performed a classic live show at Maxwell’s in Hoboken, NJ. Until now, that pristine recording of the legendary performance has only been available in low-quality bootleg form. Even so, Pitchfork has called the show “a fiery, focused set that would make a true believer out of any skeptic.” On 6th October, For Sale: Live At Maxwell’S 1986 will finally make its commercial debut as a double-LP. This marks the first live album by the band to see an official release on this format.

The show at Maxwell’s would prove to be one of the last great performances by the four original members of the Replacements, a much beloved line-up including Bob Stinson on guitar, before his departure from the band in 1986. The songs they played spanned the band’s entire history while giving prominence to new material from Tim, including “Bastards Of Young,” “Left Of The Dial” and “Kiss Me On The Bus.” Mixed in were favorites like “I Will Dare” from Let It Be (1984) and “Color Me Impressed” from Hootenanny (1983).

The original 24-track master tapes of the show sat in the Warner Music vaults until being given a proper mix in 2007, but it would still be another decade before the concert would get its official release. Mehr writes in the album’s liner notes: “Now, a decade later, and more than 30 years after the original concert, Replacements For Sale finally offers high-fidelity proof of the peculiar alchemy and unadulterated majesty of one of rock and roll’s greatest bands.”

                                                                                                Loaded

"After The Velvet Underground cut three albums for the jazz-oriented Verve label that earned them lots of notoriety but negligible sales, the group signed with industry powerhouse Atlantic Records in 1970; label head Ahmet Ertegun supposedly asked Lou Reed to avoid sex and drugs in his songs, and instead focus on making an album "loaded with hits." Loaded was the result, and with appropriate irony it turned out to be the first VU album that made any noticeable impact on commercial radio -- and also their swan song, with Reed leaving the group shortly before its release. With John Cale long gone from the band, Doug Yule highly prominent (he sings lead on four of the ten tracks), and Maureen Tucker absent on maternity leave, this is hardly a purist's Velvet Underground album. But while Lou Reed always wrote great rock & roll songs with killer hooks, on Loaded his tunes were at last given a polished but intelligent production that made them sound like the hits they should have been, and there's no arguing that "Sweet Jane" and "Rock and Roll" are as joyously anthemic as anything he's ever recorded. And if this release generally maintains a tight focus on the sunny side of the VU's personality (or would that be Reed's personality?), "New Age" and "Oh! Sweet Nuthin'" prove he had hardly abandoned his contemplative side, and "Train Around the Bend" is a subtle but revealing metaphor for his weariness with the music business. " - All Music.

THE SINGLES shows the creative chemistry shared by drummer John Densmore, guitarist Robby Krieger, keyboardist Ray Manzarek, and vocalist Jim Morrison; four brilliant artists who made The Doors one of America’s most iconic and influential rock bands.

The collection includes the single versions from all six of the landmark studio albums the quartet released between 1967 and 1971, including classics like “People Are Strange,” “Love Her Madly” and “Riders On The Storm.” Also included on the CD versions are four mono radio versions of some of the band’s biggest hits, such as “Hello, I Love You” and “Touch Me,” which have never been made available anywhere after being sent to radio around their original release. The B-sides – many of which are making their CD debut – add another dimension to the band’s legacy with such stellar tracks as “Who Scared You,” which appeared in March 1969 as the flipside to “Wishful Sinful,” and a cover of Willie Dixon’s “(You Need Meat) Don’t Go No Further,” which was paired with the 1971 smash “Love Her Madly.”

THE SINGLES also features several songs released after Morrison’s passing in 1971. Among those recordings are tracks the surviving trio recorded together (“Tightrope Ride” and “The Mosquito”), as well as live selections from posthumous releases (“Roadhouse Blues” and “Gloria.”)

The Blu-ray disc that accompanies the expanded version of THE SINGLES features a high-resolution Quadraphonic mix of The Best Of The Doors. This 11-song compilation, available on Blu-ray for the first time, was remixed specifically for Quad in 1973 and offers a unique sonic experience on songs like “Soul Kitchen,” “Moonlight Drive” and “Love Me Two Times.”

The last of this batch of "Purple Rain" single reissues treats us to Prince's all-conquering power pop smasher "When Doves Cry" backed with the equally essential non-album track "17 Days". I'm going to assume you're aware of the magnificent A-side (you do live on this planet after all...) and keep my gushing to a minimum, BUT, this is one of the finest pop songs ever written - synth funk to the power of rock riffage squared and he doesn't even bother with a bassline. Not only was "When Doves Cry" the best selling US single of 1984, it was also the first time since the Beatles that anyone had a number one movie, album and single all at the same time! If you don't know "17 Days", then allow me to make the introductions. "Snapping percussion, outrageous bass riff and killer hook, this is a Piccadilly customer...Piccadilly customer, this is the best Prince B-side!"

                                                                                                      Prince & The Revolution

                                                                                                      Purple Rain - 2017 Reissue

Possibly the most powerful of all ballads, the title track to Prince's cinematic masterpiece "Purple Rain" is one of those lighters-aloft slo-mo 80s moments that could bring a tear to a glass eye while simultaneously raising hairs, prompting goosebumps and making you want to smooch the living daylights out of your other half - pure pop perfection. On the flip we get the instrumental version of "God" a divine guitar workout with more noodle than a Pasta Paul lunchbreak....

                                                                                                        John Coltrane & Don Cherry

                                                                                                        The Avant-Garde (Mono Edition)

Coltrane gets together with Ornette Coleman's band members for this 1960 session (recorded just after "Giant Steps") which features three Coleman compositions, Monk's "Bemsha Swing" and Don Cherry's "Cherryco". As the title suggests, this is a meeting of the minds between some of the greatest innovators of 60s jazz - ace record!

                                                                                                          John Coltrane

Saying farewell to bebop, "Giant Steps" was Coltrane's second album to be recorded for the Atlantic label, and marked the first time that all of the pieces on a recording had been composed by him. The recording exemplifies Coltrane's melodic phrasing that came to be known as 'sheets of sound', and features the use of a new harmonic concept later to be known as 'Coltrane changes'. The set features early versionss of "Naima", "Cousin Mary", "Mr PC", "Spiral", and "Syeeda's Song Flute".

It includes "Blues To Elvin", "Blues To Bechet", "Blues To You", "Mr Day", "Mr Sims" and "Mr Knight". Beautiful music by one of the grooviest cats out there...

It topped the album charts in the UK and scored major hits everywhere with “Big Love” and “Little Lies.”

The producer, former keyboard player with the Kingsmen Don Gallucci, understood that the Stooges were a powerhouse live band, and tried to recreate the band’s live sets on record, resulting in a smeary and low-tech sound that delivers the energy and immediacy of a concert.

‘Fun House’ developed a strong cult following and, being set in hard rock and improvisation, is generally considered as one of the fundamental records for the development of punk rock.

The band recorded and mixed “The Grateful Dead” in five days before releasing it in March 1967. It captures the group’s early sound with a mix of electrified jug band stomps (“Sitting On Top of the World”), Chicago blues (“Good Morning Little School Girl”), crazed modal improv (“Viola Lee Blues”), and Dylan-y put-downs (“Cream Puff War”).

The vinyl picture disc features the newly remastered audio from the original tapes by David Glasser.

The 2CD version features new remastered audio from the original tapes by David Glasser - along with a bonus disc that features unreleased concert recordings from July 29 and 30, 1966 at the P.N.E. Garden Auditorium in British Columbia, mastered by Jeffrey Norman. This bonus disc unearths unreleased recordings from the band’s performances at the Vancouver Trips Festival in 1966. Only a few recordings from the Dead’s first two years exist, but each one reveals corners of the band’s repertoire not captured anywhere else. That’s especially true here, with three songs making their last appearance on any surviving Dead recording: “Standing On The Corner,” “You Don’t Have To Ask Me,” and “Cardboard Cowboy.”

LONDON FOG 1966 is a brand new Collector’s Edition boxed set and virtual time capsule that features unearthed audio recorded at the club in May 1966. Previously unreleased and not even known to exist until recently, this marks the earliest recordings of the band and finds the quartet mixing blues covers with early versions of Doors originals.

Like many of the band’s early concerts, the show captured on this deluxe set reflects the group’s deep love for the blues with covers of standards like Muddy Waters’ “Rock Me” and “I’m Your Hoochie Coochie Man.” The set also includes raw performances of “Baby, Please Don’t Go” (Big Joe Williams), “Don’t Fight It” (Wilson Pickett), and “Lucille” (Little Richard).

An absolute classic! The Stooges debut album sounded like nothing else when it was released in 1969. With a kind of Stones-ey swagger and a heavy dose of garage rock they also embraced the more experimental scene that was flourishing in NYC at the time, led by The Velvet Underground.
They had an energy and attitude that epitomised punk 7 years before punk was invented! Including "1969", "No Fun", "I Wanna Be Your Dog" and "Real Cool Time", it's an album that still sounds as exciting and dynamic today.

When Steve Marriott left The Small Faces, Ronnie Lane and Ian McLagan recruited Ron Wood and charismatic frontman Rod Stewart and changed their name to The Faces. First Step, which was released in 1970, was their first LP. Gone was the smart, tight Mod sound (and style) of their previous incarnation, and in came a looser, bluesy rock’n’roll. As its name implies, this is the sound of a band finding its feet, and although it’s slightly shambolic, it’s all the better for it.

                                                                                                                          Ramones

Even so, original drummer Tommy Ramone did do a pretty good job describing the band’s primal sound when he penned the quartet’s press bio that same year. “The Ramones all originate from Forest Hills and kids who grew up there either became musicians, degenerates or dentists. The Ramones are a little of each,” he observed. “Their sound is not unlike a fast drill on a rear molar.” This year marks the 40th anniversary of Ramones, recently named the “Greatest Punk Album Of All Time” by Rolling Stone, and certainly one of the most important and influential albums of all time. This 29-minute masterpiece helped launch the punk rock scenes in both America and Britain, and also went on to inspire countless other artists for generations to come. To celebrate the Ramones’ lasting impact, Rhino has created the ultimate tribute to the band’s landmark debut

'Forever Changes' is Love's all-time classic album from the so called ‘Summer of Love’ of 1967. Neil Young was originally planned to produce the album but when he dropped out at the last minute it fell to Elektra in-house producer Bruce Botnik. Rumoured drug problems and band fall-outs created a tense atmosphere but one which resulted in an album of intricately arranged acoustic guitar, swelling strings and Spanish horns combined with morbid and foreboding lyrics which prophesized an end to the golden age.

'Forever Changes' is inarguably Love's masterpiece and an album of enduring beauty, but it's also one of the few major works of its era that saw the dark clouds looming on the cultural horizon, and the result was music that was as prescient as it was compelling – Mark Deming.

Air have been one of the most iconic French acts of the last two decades, with worldwide hits that have shaped the forefront of modern electronica, calling on various styles and constantly crossing genre barriers, re-shaping the rules as they go. Boasting eight incredible studio albums and live shows that few can match in technical ability, this new compilation album will feature all the greatest hits of the past twenty years, as well as 14 rarities tracks.

It's like having a brand new Air album!

Dexys need little introduction, under their previous guise as Dexys Midnight Runners with Kevin Rowland at the helm they sold millions of records and had 2 number ones in Geno and of course Come On Eileen. First forward 30 odd years and Dexys Midnight Runners are now Dexys and have been since their first new album in 27 years 2012’s One Day I’m Gonna Soar. Release to massive critical and public acclaim the album charted at number 13 and received a rapturous response both live and on record.

June 3rd sees the long awaited new album from Dexys, Let The Record Show: Dexys Do Irish And Country Soul, an album that Kevin Rowland has been wanting to do since 1985. Kevin says “It’s in the title-Dexys DO Irish and Country Soul, Dexys DO it, not BECOME it, we’re not trying to be Irish, we haven’t used too many Celtic instruments on there, It’s OUR sound.” Kevin has always followed his intuition, from the bold, poetic soul stylings of Searching For The Young Soul Rebels through the fervent folk of Too-Rye-Ay to the once misunderstood, now revered drama of Don’t Stand Me Down. Let The Record Show displays a mature confidence without sacrificing any of the charism that makes Dexys special.

The album is a collection of “re-interpretations“ of songs that Kevin holds dear for a number of reasons. Including covers of Bee Gees’ ‘To Love Somebody’, Rod Stewart’s ‘You Wear It well’ and Johnny Cash’s ‘40 Shades Of Green’. In addition to these there are the first two singles, ‘Both Sides Now’ written and performed by Joni Mitchell and also recorded by Judy Collins and the lesser known ‘Grazing In the Grass’ originally by The Friends Of Distinction.

Featuring Hawkwind's classic line-up, which included vocalist/guitarist (and band constant) Dave Brock and bassist/occasional vocalist Lemmy (soon to depart and form Motorhead), 1973's "Space Ritual" is monolithic in stature and stands as the group's most impressive live (if not overall) recording. Although the ensemble often garnered comparisons to Pink Floyd, Hawkwind was far more aggressive than Waters, Gilmour, and company, charging through a potent, freeform set of cosmic freakouts (the trippy "Earth Calling") and rumbling metal ("Lord of Light" sounds like Black Sabbath in lunar orbit).

While the entire outing is stellar, the British space-rock group really hits a stride during the epic "Orgone Accumulator", which settles into a deep, acid groove. Although the spoken-word segments (most notably a recitation of sci-fi/fantasy author Michael Moorcock's "Black Corridor" by vocalist/poet Bob Calvert) might not suit everyone, "Space Ritual" endures as both a document of its era and one of Hawkwind's finest releases.

One of the most influential soul singers of the 1960s, Otis Redding exemplified to many listeners the power of Southern "deep soul" – hoarse, gritty vocals, brassy arrangements, and an emotional way with both party tunes and aching ballads. At the time of his tragic death at the age of 26, Redding was on the verge of breaking through to a wide pop audience (which he would indeed do with his posthumous number one single "[Sittin' On] The Dock of the Bay"). He was also tremendously respected by many white groups, particularly the Rolling Stones, who covered Redding's "Pain in My Heart." (via Allmusic.com)

The original record is that: raw and as it was played that night. This release of the seminal live album includes remastered audio, new sequencing and 5 extra tracks.

You don’t have to be complicated to shake up the status quo. We know that very well now, but it is thanks to them that we have that creative knowledge. As time goes, the influence of this band will only continue to unroll, and with this album we have the opportunity to peer into their lives and music as it was then.”

For many, the soft and crystal-clear voice of Joni Mitchell at the beginning of her career will remain indelible in their memory. The innovative style of her peaceful, folk guitar music caught the attention of David Crosby, member of the highly popular band Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and in 1968 he produced her very first album. Only three years later she became inspired by the cool flow of modern jazz and set off on new musical paths. "The Hissing Of Summer Lawns" represents a great leap away from the folk scene. Even the very first number, "In France They Kiss On Main Street", stands out thanks to its surprisingly unconventional melodic writing which is answered by powerful bass lines in a Jaco Pastorius-like style. Experiments with sound follow, such as the use of warrior drums of the Burundi and the growling sinus tones of the Moog synthesiser ("The Jungle Line") and then there is a whole line-up of minor-key songs behind whose jet-set foreground one finds a sophisticated jazz spirit. Even the final gospel-like singing ("Shadows And Light") contains little touches of the poignant melancholy which is found throughout the album. With her highly versatile, uniquely textured voice, which has often been compared favourably to that of Kate Bush, and her song texts whose lyrical depths are similar to Patti Smith's, Joni Mitchell has created a masterwork of the Seventies.

                                                                                                                                              Republic - 2015 Remastered Version

If you aren't familiar with this album's first single, then you must not have been listening to the radio in the summer of 1993, because "Regret" was virtually everywhere at the time, hitting #1 on Billboard's Modern Rock and Hot Dance Music / Club Play charts, #7 on the Top 40 Mainstream chart, and even provided the band with a top-30 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. Other key tracks on the album included "Ruined in a Day," "World," and "Spooky," each of which made it into the top 30 of at least one Billboard chart. Given that it was New Order's first album in four years at the time of its release, it's probably fair to call it a comeback, and a successful one at that.

They play a stripped-down mix of punk rock, funk and dub, with an emphasis on the social and political ills of society. They have released nine studio albums over their lengthy career as well as an array of compilations and live albums.

Described by AllMusic as a “politically charged, more Teutonic take on funk”, it was listed as one of Pitchfork Media’s best albums of the 1980s.

Chiming guitars and pretty melodies that hark back to a by gone Byrdsian era.
