    Television

    Marquee Moon (Deluxe Audio)

Television are pleased to announce ‘Marquee Moon (Deluxe Audio)’. The legendary band Television were part of the ’70s New York City underground rock scene, where they were among the first bands to play the punk rock and new wave venue CBGB. Richard Hell left the band in 1975 before the recording of Marquee Moon to be replaced by Fred Smith.

Marquee Moon was released to widespread critical acclaim in February 1977 and has since been viewed as one of the greatest albums of all time and continues to open eyes to the ways the Verlaine and Lloyd utilised electric guitar creatively within punk rock.

Marquee Moon 2LP deluxe vinyl will be released on 5th October on blue vinyl with the original album plus an additional LP of bonus tracks that featured on the 2003 remastered CD.

      Love

        Ramones

Road To Ruin (40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition)

The Ramones released the band’s fourth studio album, Road To Ruin, 40 years ago this September. Dee Dee, Joey, and Johnny were joined for the first time by drummer Marky Ramone, who replaced founding member Tommy Ramone, who’d left to do more producing and writing for the band. It was also the album that introduced a nation of pinheads to the all-time Ramones’ classic “I Wanna Be Sedated.” To celebrate the milestone, the band will release two versions on September 21st, a day before the anniversary of the album’s original release on September 22, 1978 - a 3CD/1LP 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition and a newly remastered 1CD version of the original album.

The first disc of the Road To Ruin: 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition features a remastered version of the original stereo mix for Road To Ruin and a new 2018 40th Anniversary Road Revisited mix created by Stasium, who strips off the original record’s commercial gloss and restores the album to its punk rock core. Stasium’s new mix is also featured on the 180-gram LP that accompanies this deluxe edition.

The second disc offers up over twenty unreleased recordings, including rough mixes for every album track, starkly different alternate takes of two songs, and two unreleased outtakes: “I Walk Out” and “S.L.U.G.” – unfinished during the original recording sessions in 1978, and completed by Stasium for this anniversary release. Other highlights include three different versions of “I Wanna Be Sedated,” including the “Ramones-on-45-Mega-Mix!” released in 1988 as part of the campaign for the Ramones Mania compilation, as well as acoustic versions of “Questioningly,” “Needles And Pins,” and “Don’t Come Close.”

The final disc has a previously unreleased recording of the band’s entire 1979 New Year’s Eve concert, which was mixed live by Stasium, and broadcast on WNEW-FM. Recorded in New York City at The Palladium, with audio sourced from Tommy Ramone’s original cassette of the console recording, it features blistering performances of “Blitzkrieg Bop,” “Rockaway Beach,” and “Sheena Is A Punk Rocker,” along with several songs from Road To Ruin: “I Don’t Want You,” “I Wanna Be Sedated,” and “I Wanted Everything.”

MC5 only released three albums, but they were ferocious, adventurous, and confrontational enough to secure the group’s place as one of the greatest rock ’n’ roll bands ever. The band performed for several years before making its first record. To celebrate, MC5 will release Total Assault: 50th Anniversary Collection, a limited-edition boxed set that features all three of the band’s albums pressed on coloured vinyl.

It includes Kick Out The Jams (red vinyl), Back In The USA (white vinyl) and High Time (blue vinyl). Grateful Dead continue its ambitious 50th anniversary reissue series with Anthem Of The Sun: 50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition.

The band’s most experimental album, Anthem Of The Sun was an unprecedented mix of studio and live recordings stitched together to create a hybrid. Fifty years later, it remains a pinnacle of psychedelic music. It also marked a departure for the band, as they began to channel their creativity into longer jams on songs like “Alligator” and “Caution (Do Not Stop On Tracks)” – two live staples of the Dead’s early days. During this period, the band included: Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Ron “Pigpen” McKernan, Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart, and Bill Kreutzmann.

The album is released as a 12-inch vinyl picture disc produced in a limited edition of 10,000 copies, which will feature the remastered 1971 mix of the album.

Jim and William’s legendary song-writing partnership was first recognised in 1983 by Alan McGee’s highly influential Creation Records, where they released their debut single ‘Upside Down’ in 1984. The Jesus And Mary Chain went on to enjoy an illustrious career signed to Warner Music label Blanco Y Negro, releasing several critically acclaimed albums and cult singles such as ‘Just Like Honey’, ‘April Skies’, ‘Darklands’ and ‘Happy When It Rains’.

Originally released on CD in 2002, ‘21 Singles’ is a career spanning compilation featuring all the band’s singles in chronological order. Beginning with their Creation debut, the album takes us through fifteen years of The Jesus And Mary Chain’s indie and major label discography, travelling through their Blanco Y Negro heyday of the 80s and 90s, to their 1998 return to Creation. The album also includes their late appearance on Seattle’s legendary Sub Pop Records in the States. Many of the versions on ‘21 Singles’ are unique and alternative to their album counterparts.

                                      STAFF COMMENTS

Barry says: It's hard to believe quite how many of these tracks have shaped my (and possibly your) teenage years, and continue to influence bands around today. This is all of the records released during the bands' time on Restless Records, one of the most fruitful times of their career. An epic collection, and great chronological document of the bands progression.

Andy says: Our favourite space cadets' early years in one neat treasure box. Open with caution!!

                                      O

O, originally released in the summer of 2002, was one of the last albums to build a true word-of-mouth following before widespread streaming. Peaking at #8 in the UK, the seminal “O” will be available on vinyl for the very first time on June 1st.

This version is extended to 16 tracks, and includes four additional recordings:

‘The Professor & La Fille Danse’ and ‘Moody Mooday’ were both originally B-sides to ‘The Blower’s Daughter’ – ‘Moody Mooday’ also appeared alongside ‘Lonelily’ as a limited edition 7” single release in 2004. ‘Woman Like A Man’ was recorded live in session at Galway Bay FM and was the lead track for the song’s single release. ‘Prague’ and ‘Silent Night’ (featuring Lisa Hannigan), which were hidden bonus tracks after the album’s closing song ‘Eskimo’, are also included.

All three of the singles from the album went on to chart upon release, with ‘The Blowers Daughter’, ‘Cannonball’ and ‘Volcano’ peaking at #27, #9 and #29 respectively. Along with being gold certified, ‘Cannonball’ has been subject to multiple cover versions, most notably by Little Mix after they won The X Factor in 2011.

“O” will comprise of 2 x 180g vinyl housed in a gatefold with lyrics and album artwork, including 4 additional tracks not on the original album.

                                        First And Last And Always

Signing to WEA in 1984, their debut album ‘First And Last And Always’ went on to chart in the UK Top 20 upon release in 1985. The album featured the singles ‘Walk Away’ (charting at #45) and ‘No Time To Cry’ (charting at #63), with a band featuring future Mission members Wayne Hussey and Craig Adams.

                                          Floodland

At the end of their US tour in June 1985 the band took a break from music, to return in November 1987 with ‘Floodland’ (UK #9). Still aided by Doktor Avalanche, Eldritch hired former Gun Club and Fur Bible bassist Patricia Morrison to complete the new line-up. Featuring the now iconic hit singles ‘This Corrosion’ (UK #7), ‘Dominion’ (UK #13) and ‘Lucretia My Reflection’ (UK #20), production duties were shared with famed Meat Loaf writer Jim Steinman.

Greatest Hits Volume One: A Slight Case Of Overbombing

‘Greatest Hits Volume One: A Slight Case Of Overbombing’, was originally released in 1993, and reached #14 in the UK. This elusive, long out of print vinyl features the band’s best-loved and most famous songs from their studio recordings.

                                              The Sisters Of Mercy

                                              Vision Thing

‘Vision Thing’ (UK #11) was released in November 1990. With a more hard-rock orientated sound, the group was assembled around Eldritch, featuring Doktor Avalanche, former All About Eve guitarist Tim Bricheno and, perhaps more surprisingly, Sigue Sigue Sputnik and Generation X bassist Tony James. Joined again by Jim Steinman, who wrote and produced the lead single ‘More’ (UK #14), the album featured ‘Doctor Jeep’ (UK #37) and ‘When You Don't See Me’, and effectively became the band’s last full, new album.

                                                The Flaming Lips

                                                Greatest Hits Vol. 1

The Flaming Lips have pushed the envelope and bent boundaries for more than two decades with the band’s Grammy®-winning music and ground-breaking concerts.

Greatest Hits Vol. 1 compiles eleven WBR-era singles and album tracks on a single black vinyl pressing.

The Deluxe 3-CD Edition of Greatest Hits Vol. 1 significantly expands the concept of their “hits” and gathers some of their best-loved album tracks from the aforementioned albums plus deep cuts from their WBR album debut, Hit To Death In The Future Head (1992), along with music from, Zaireeka (1997), The Flaming Lips And Heady Friends (2012) and The Terror (2013). The Deluxe Edition will also compile a generous hatful of International single B-sides, studio outtakes and several previously unreleased tracks to present an essential view into the extraordinary body of work from one of the most influential and enduring rock bands of all-time.

Some the aural treasures found on disc 3 are among the rarest recorded curios in The Lips musical medicine chest including the previously unreleased demo track “Zero To A Million” which features The Lips short-lived line-up that included Jonathan Donahue on guitar (Mercury Rev) and Nathan Roberts on drums. This track was on the original cassette tape which led to The Lips Warner Bros. Records signing. Another early obscurity “Jets (Cupid’s Kiss Vs. the Psyche of Death)” is one of the three tracks from The Lips first-ever WBR CD EP, Yeah, I Know It's A Drag...Wastin' Pigs Is Still Radical.

Various tracks included here that have never been available on CD until now include the epic, fan favorite “The Captain” which was left off The Soft Bulletin and a welcome addition to this set. “We Can’t Predict The Future” is taken from a June 2000 John Peel BBC Session. “Your Face Can Tell The Future”, and “You Gotta Hold On” are outtakes from At War With The Mystics sessions. Another rare gem, “Noodling Theme”, is from the 2001 Lips soundtrack to director Bradley Beesley’s indie-film "Okie Noodling" about bare-handed fishing in Oklahoma. Those lucky enough to attend early screenings were handed a copy of this now ultra-rare 3-song CD upon entry. “Spiderman Vs Muhammed Ali”, originally recorded for 2007’s Music from and Inspired by Spider-Man 3 soundtrack has never released in any form. Prior to this collection, “Enthusiasm For Life Defeats Existential Fear Part 2” existed on a USB drive -- along with two other tracks -- buried within the edible Gummy Fetus sold on tour in 2011. Closing out the collection is “Silent Lord” which is comprised of The Lips mash-up of “Silent Night” with Spacemen 3’s “Lord, Can You Hear Me” from a Christmas 2008 limited edition 7” picture disc.

                                                  Prince

                                                  Nothing Compares 2 U

Working in conjunction with Warners, The Prince Estate bestow us with some brilliance from the genius mind of the purple one, releasing the original version of the classic "Nothing Compares 2 U" on a limited 7" single. This previously unreleased version was recorded in 1984, six years before 1990’s classic reimagining by Sinéad O'Connor and 15 years before the rest of world adopted Prince's syntactic lead with the release of the 3210. The track was recorded at the Flying Cloud Drive 'Warehouse' in Eden Prairie by Prince’s long-time engineer Susan Rogers, and originally composed, arranged and performed in its entirety by Prince, aside from the backing vocals by Susannah Melvoin and Paul "St. Paul" Peterson and Eric Leeds' stunning saxophone work. In case you're one of the 14 people in the world who doesn't know this track, it's Prince in full funk ballad pomp, pouring his heart and soul into utterly impactful, everyday lyricism about a fading love, while riffing, synthing and grooving his way through a slow soul backing.

Patrick says: The best ballad ever written, by the best musician ever.

“Dock Of The Bay Sessions” was compiled with input from Roger Armstrong of Ace Records and Otis biographer Jonathan Gould and has the Redding family’s full endorsement. Although the individual tracks have been previously released across a smattering of posthumous albums and compilations, this marks the first time they have been assembled to resemble what this album could possibly have been.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the album’s opening track “(Sittin’ On) The Dock Of The Bay,” one of the last songs Redding ever recorded. Released in January 1968, it soon topped the charts in March 16th in the US becoming the first posthumous #1 single in the history of the U.S. music charts. It also reached number 3 in the UK, and went on to sell more than four million copies worldwide.

Scratching The Door: The First Recordings Of The Flaming Lips

The Flaming Lips have pushed the envelope and bent boundaries for more than two decades with the band’s Grammy®-winning music and ground-breaking concerts.

Scratching The Door highlights tracks recorded by The Flaming Lips’ original line-up, which featured Wayne Coyne’s brother Mark on vocals. The album includes the band’s first and second cassette demos, in addition to The Flaming Lips first self-released EP, and marks the first time all of these recordings have been collected together on a single release. Among the other featured tracks are covers of The Who’s “Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere,” Led Zeppelin’s “Communication Breakdown” and the theme song from the 1960’s Batman television series, which previously appeared on Rykodisc’s 2002 compilation, Finally The Punk Rockers Are Taking Acid.

All of the music on Scratching The Door has been remastered from original sources by the band’s longtime musical foil and producer, David Fridmann with help from the Lips’ Wayne Coyne and Michael Ivins.

                                                  Love

                                                  Forever Changes (50th Anniversary)

Love’s Forever Changes is the psychedelic folk-rock pioneers’ finest achievement. Mostly overlooked when it was released in 1967, today the album is considered an indispensable masterpiece. In 2008, it was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, and – in 2012 – the Library of Congress added it to the National Recording Registry.

Love are celebrating the acclaimed album’s golden anniversary with an extensive 4CD/DVD/LP collection housed in a beautifully illustrated 12 x 12 hardbound book that features a newly written essay and track-by-track notes by music historian Ted Olsen.

Recorded during the Summer of Love in Hollywood, CA, Forever Changes is the group’s most fully realized studio effort, featuring Arthur Lee (vocals, guitar), Johnny Echols (lead guitar), Bryan MacLean (rhythm guitar, vocals), Ken Forssi (bass) and Michael Stuart (drums, percussion). The original album introduced classics like “Andmoreagain,” “Red Telephone,” “A House Is Not A Motel” and “Alone Again Or.”

The set features a few firsts for the album, including the CD-debut of a remastered version made by its original co-producer and engineer Bruce Botnick, as well as the first-ever release of the mono version on CD. Also included are alternate mixes of the album, as well as a selection of rare and unreleased singles and studio outtakes. Botnick’s stereo remaster of the original album makes its vinyl debut on the LP included with this set. It was cut from high resolution digital audio by celebrated audio engineer Bernie Grundman.

The DVD that accompanies the anniversary collection includes a 24/96 stereo mix of the album version of the original album remastered by Botnick. Also featured is “Your Mind And We Belong Together,” a rare promotional video directed by Elektra producer Mark Abramson that was originally released in 1968.

Forever Changes: 50th Anniversary Edition boasts more than a dozen rarities, including single versions of “Alone Again Or” and “A House Is Not A Motel” that are available now for the first time since 1967. Two other recordings on the set have never been released: the backing track for “Live And Let Live” and an outtake backing track for “Wonder People (I Do Wonder).”

When faced with the unenviable task of following up the instant classic that was his genre defining debut, Mike Skinner decided to channel his observational lyricism and home made beats into a concept album about a geezer on holiday, on the prowl, on the con and out of luck. Whereas 'Original Pirate Material' was a record that garnered acclaim from the electronic / dance fraternity and the forward-thinking wings of the rock / mainstream press, 'A Grand Don’t Come For Free' swept the board in prompting critical praise. This was the album that saw Skinner compared to the likes of Ray Davies and Paul Weller in evoking the glorious mess of everyday life. A striking concept album set to an inventive sonic backdrop, the seemingly prosaic tale of a young man unlucky in love (and, so it seems, money) is brought brilliantly to life in a barrage of astute lyrics, lurid tales and memorable hooks. Deservedly awarded a 9.1 review from Pitchfork, the record sees Skinner reveal his most vulnerable self: 'Dry Your Eyes' and 'Blinded By The Lights', in particular, manage to articulate painfully familiar feelings that appeal to music fans of every hue. This record marked Skinner’s creative peak, received international acclaim and, thanks to its distinctiveness, propelled its maker to the top of the musical tree.

Big Brother, Dom Jolly, Playstation 2, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo and Ronaldo, weak pills and cheap skunk, 3310s, foot and mouth, Soham and Pual Burrell - that was the world when "Original Pirate Material" first dropped in 2002 - blowing up Kazaa and Audiogalaxy and finding its way to your mate's CD player on an iffy CDr. To say it was a breath of fresh air is an understatement, this groundbreaking album filled the air with a green fug, challenged the yanks for the MCing crown and twisted the polished sheen of UKG into a laptop-crafted fusion of skanking bass and housey beats. While breakthough hit "Has It Come To This?", "Turn The Page" and "Let's Push Things Forward" remain era-defining anthems, every single track here is the tits. "Sharp Darts" sounds like an utterly wrong Wu Tang joint, "Same Old Thing" and "Geezer's Need Excitement" are rough, tough and proper grimey and "It's Too Late" is bloke-poetry on a heartbreaking anthem tip. Elsewhere "Don't Mug Yourself" royally takes the piss out of you on the back of the bus and "The Irony Of It All" offers a hilarious review of boozed up townies and stoned students. And then there's "Weak Become Heroes", the e'd up ravers anthem that's still the best track of that decade.

                                                    Grateful Dead

The Best Of The Grateful Dead Live Vol. 1: 1969-1977

The live albums the band released during its 30-year career are the primary source for the collection, including tracks like “Bertha” from Grateful Dead (Skull & Roses) (1971), “Fire On The Mountain” from Dead Set (1981), and “The Music Never Stopped” from One From the Vault (1991). A testament to its ongoing popularity, the revered double-album Europe ’72 (1972), is represented by no less than five tracks, including “Sugar Magnolia,” “Jack Straw” and a searing rendition of “Morning Dew.”

Other performances on the set were selected from the growing number of live releases that have emerged since the death of founding member Jerry Garcia in 1995. Some of those recordings include “Touch Of Grey” from Truckin’ Up To Buffalo (2005), a 1990 version of “Eyes Of The World” with saxophonist Branford Marsalis featured on Wake Up To Find Out (2014), and “Estimated Prophet,” which debuted earlier this year as part of Cornell 5/8/77, a recording of the Grateful Dead’s mythic show at Cornell University in 1977, thought by many to be the band’s greatest live performance.

How The West Was Won (Remastered)

HOW THE WEST WAS WON highlights the best performances from Led Zeppelin’s legendary concerts at the Los Angeles Forum and Long Beach Arena on June 25 and 27, 1972. Melded together and sequenced to replicate a single concert from beginning to end, the four-LP collection capture the band at the height of its formidable powers.

Standouts include a 25-plus minute version of “Dazed And Confused” and a 21-minute medley based around “Whole Lotta Love.” The performances also capture the band introducing songs from its then-unreleased album Houses of the Holy, which would be released nine months later.

(1995) and Being There (1996). On December 1, Wilco will revisit those landmark albums with remastered versions of the originals expanded with rare and unreleased music that will be new to even the most dedicated fans.

A.M. Deluxe Edition includes the original album plus eight unreleased bonus tracks that feature an early version of “Outtasite (Outta Mind)” and “When You Find Trouble,” which is the last studio recording made by Uncle Tupelo.

After his former band Uncle Tupelo broke up, singer/songwriter Jeff Tweedy took the bulk of the band—most notably bassist John Stirratt and drummer Ken Coomer—and quickly recorded Wilco’s 1995 debut, A.M. The album includes several fan favorites like “Casino Queen” and the funny-sad ode to drunk driving and unrequited love, “Passenger Side.”

The 2017 40th Anniversary Tracking Mix is also featured on the LP that accompanies the Deluxe Edition.

Two dozen rare and unreleased recordings are found on the second disc, including rough mixes from sessions at Mediasound and The Power Station. There’s also an early version of “Needles And Pins” with Tommy on drums, the B-side single mix of “Babysitter,” an alternate version of “It’s A Long Way Back To Germany” with Dee Dee on vocals, an original radio promo with Joey Ramone, and more.

A highlight of this Deluxe Edition is the complete unreleased concert included on the third disc. This never-before-heard multi-track recording of the band’s December 19, 1977 show at the Apollo Centre in Glasgow, Scotland captures the Ramones just a few days before the group recorded the classic live album It’s Alive, and mixed for this 40th Anniversary edition by Ed Stasium. In Glasgow, they played songs from all three studio albums including “Blitzkrieg Bop,” “Judy Is A Punk,” “Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment,” and “California Sun.”

                                                                  Strange Days (50th Anniversary Edition)

"Strange Days" (50th Anniversary Edition) was produced by the album’s original engineer Bruce Botnick. Accompanying the set are liner notes by music journalist David Fricke, as well as a selection of rare and previously unseen photographs.

Having a larger budget for Strange Days allowed the band to spend more time experimenting in the studio. They used an eight-track recorder for the first time, which resulted in some memorable overdubs like Krieger’s double-tracked guitar on “When The Music’s Over.” Surprisingly, the trippy keyboard sound heard on the album’s title track is actually one of the earliest appearances of a Moog synthesizer in a rock song.

Strange Days mixed new songs written on the road with some written before the band’s 1967 debut. In fact, the band performed “Strange Days” during its 1966 residency at the London Fog in L.A., while “My Eyes Have Seen You” dates back to 1965. Another early track is “Moonlight Drive,” which was one of the very first songs that the band practiced together, and where the band heard Krieger’s haunting bottleneck guitar playing for the first time. It’s also the song Morrison sang to Manzarek at Venice Beach in 1965 when the two former UCLA film students reconnected and decided to start the Doors.

                                                                    The Doors

The Doors - 180 Gram Stereo Version

Originally released in January 1967, and one of the most impressive debuts in rock history.

"A tremendous debut album, and indeed one of the best first-time outings in rock history, introducing the band's fusion of rock, blues, classical, jazz, and poetry with a knockout punch. The lean, spidery guitar and organ riffs interweave with a hypnotic menace, providing a seductive backdrop for Jim Morrison's captivating vocals and probing prose. "Light My Fire" was the cut that topped the charts and established the group as stars, but most of the rest of the album is just as impressive, including some of their best songs: the propulsive "Break on Through" (their first single), the beguiling mystery of "The Crystal Ship," the mysterious "End of the Night," "Take It as It Comes" (one of several tunes besides "Light My Fire" that also had hit potential), and the stomping rock of "Soul Kitchen" and "Twentieth Century Fox." The 11-minute Oedipal drama "The End" was the group at its most daring and, some would contend, overambitious. It was nonetheless a haunting cap to an album whose nonstop melodicism and dynamic tension would never be equaled by the group again, let alone bettered." - AllMusic.

                                                                      Faces

                                                                      Ooh La La

The Faces' 1973 valedictory effort was initially received in critical communities as something of a disappointment – a kind of hangover record following the vaulting heights of Long Player and A Nod Is As Good As A Wink … To A Blind Horse. Over the course of time, it has become the band's defining work. Blues-inspired workouts like "Cindy Incidentally" and "Glad And Sorry" demonstrate that the Faces have lost nothing off their considerable fastball, while the caution to the wind fuck-around "Borstal Boys" almost dares punk rock to happen. Finally we have Lane's ruminative title track at the album's conclusion – a gorgeous and wry concession to youth as a kind of slow gathering death. "I wish I knew what I know now / When I was younger" may qualify as the greatest and most knowing final salvo line ever authored by a truly legendary band.

In February 1986, The Replacements performed a classic live show at Maxwell’s in Hoboken, NJ. Until now, that pristine recording of the legendary performance has only been available in low-quality bootleg form. Even so, Pitchfork has called the show “a fiery, focused set that would make a true believer out of any skeptic.” On 6th October, For Sale: Live At Maxwell’S 1986 will finally make its commercial debut as a double-LP. This marks the first live album by the band to see an official release on this format.

The show at Maxwell’s would prove to be one of the last great performances by the four original members of the Replacements, a much beloved line-up including Bob Stinson on guitar, before his departure from the band in 1986. The songs they played spanned the band’s entire history while giving prominence to new material from Tim, including “Bastards Of Young,” “Left Of The Dial” and “Kiss Me On The Bus.” Mixed in were favorites like “I Will Dare” from Let It Be (1984) and “Color Me Impressed” from Hootenanny (1983).

The original 24-track master tapes of the show sat in the Warner Music vaults until being given a proper mix in 2007, but it would still be another decade before the concert would get its official release. Mehr writes in the album’s liner notes: “Now, a decade later, and more than 30 years after the original concert, Replacements For Sale finally offers high-fidelity proof of the peculiar alchemy and unadulterated majesty of one of rock and roll’s greatest bands.”

Music has always played a central role in Lynch’s work and it helped establish the haunting, dreamlike nature of the original Twin Peaks. The same is true for the new series. The songs that appear on the new soundtracks will be revealed gradually over the course of the season.

The first track as heard on the debut episode is “Twin Peaks Main Theme” by Grammy-winning composer Angelo Badalamenti, whose music is inextricably linked to the original series and film. The second track is "Shadow" by Chromatics. Both these tracks and the other eighteen confidential tracks will be available on this unique 2LP set.

THE SINGLES shows the creative chemistry shared by drummer John Densmore, guitarist Robby Krieger, keyboardist Ray Manzarek, and vocalist Jim Morrison; four brilliant artists who made The Doors one of America’s most iconic and influential rock bands.

The collection includes the single versions from all six of the landmark studio albums the quartet released between 1967 and 1971, including classics like “People Are Strange,” “Love Her Madly” and “Riders On The Storm.” Also included on the CD versions are four mono radio versions of some of the band’s biggest hits, such as “Hello, I Love You” and “Touch Me,” which have never been made available anywhere after being sent to radio around their original release. The B-sides – many of which are making their CD debut – add another dimension to the band’s legacy with such stellar tracks as “Who Scared You,” which appeared in March 1969 as the flipside to “Wishful Sinful,” and a cover of Willie Dixon’s “(You Need Meat) Don’t Go No Further,” which was paired with the 1971 smash “Love Her Madly.”

THE SINGLES also features several songs released after Morrison’s passing in 1971. Among those recordings are tracks the surviving trio recorded together (“Tightrope Ride” and “The Mosquito”), as well as live selections from posthumous releases (“Roadhouse Blues” and “Gloria.”)

The Blu-ray disc that accompanies the expanded version of THE SINGLES features a high-resolution Quadraphonic mix of The Best Of The Doors. This 11-song compilation, available on Blu-ray for the first time, was remixed specifically for Quad in 1973 and offers a unique sonic experience on songs like “Soul Kitchen,” “Moonlight Drive” and “Love Me Two Times.”

Recorded in 1967 when the world was still feeling the recent after-effects of "Sgt. Peppers", this album's scope was immense, and a few tracks were even co-written by poet Larry Beckett. Cited by many as Tim Buckley's best album, this was certainly the pinnacle of Tim's more traditional folk side.

After gigging around the Los Angeles scene for three years, Arthur Lee was ready for something different. Inspired by seeing The Byrds live, he decided to merge their folk-rock sound with the driving r&b he had been playing to create a new group, dubbed Love. Recruiting guitarists Johnny Echols and ex-Byrds roadie Bryan Maclean, bassist Ken Forssi and drummer Alban “Snoopy” Pfisterer, Love began recording their eponymous debut LP in January 1966.

Their first single, Bacharach/David composition “My Little Red Book,” spotlights an insistent, menacing riff that sounds nothing like what their contemporaries were committing to vinyl. Other cuts highlight the writing talents of Lee and the band members, notably on Lee’s anti-drug essay “Signed, D.C.” and Maclean’s “Softly to Me.” Also included is their version of the rock standard “Hey Joe,” rivaling The Leaves’ hit version for power and sporting some lyric alterations. The group, which lived communally at the time in a house formerly owned by Boris Karloff (they are pictured in the house’s garden on the LP cover), quickly coalesced into one of the West Coast’s most influential and exciting groups; here is where it all began.

Andy says: Like a more edgy Byrds mixing folk jangle with garage grit, Love brought the genius Arthur Lee into our hearts and minds, never to be the same again!! This is where the story began.

What we said way back in 2004: 'The debut album from James Murphy and his DFA buddies finally arrives and it's well worth any hype that's surrounded it. Along with Tim Goldsworthy, Nancy Whang, Phillip Mossman, Patrick Mahoney and Tyler Pope, Murphy has created a brilliant LP that not only rides the top of the zeitgeist wave of current post-punk / punk-funk revivalism, but goes way beyond there too, taking in loose electro-acoustic disco-not-disco, anthemic electroclash, fierce guitar-driven hardcore and intimate melancholy. Not to be missed!'

                                                                                      FORMAT INFORMATION

LP Info: Single LP in gatefold sleeve.

Originally only available as a download, James Murphy's 45 minute-long work-out track was commissioned by Nike. Actually the '45 minute-long track' is a red herring, as "45:33" is six different tracks mixed together to create a perfect backdrop for running. So, you get two minutes of warm up music, which sounds like some late 60s electronic synth experiment. This then segues into the simple hand clap and piano opening to track two, which builds into a great disco song, complete with soulful vocals. Next up there's an instrumental of LCD's "Someone Great", which works its way into a fantastic piece of cosmic-edged disco-house featuring twisted treated spoken vocals (by Murphy I'm presuming) that almost drop into "Losing My Edge" territory. Track five opens with a horn blast before launching into an energetic post-punk tribal disco-not-disco killer - it's like some lost Pigbag track remixed by Arthur Russell! Lastly, it's warm down time, set to some gently cascading synths and ambient atmospherics. Now, as I get out of breath running for the bus (time; 45 seconds), I can't say whether this would work for jogging to, but as a mix CD, or as individual tracks it's fantastic.

                                                                                      FORMAT INFORMATION

                                                                                      Purple Rain (Remastered)

The DNA of Purple Rain can be felt throughout pop culture at large. It is a timeless body of work with an immortal resonance exemplified by smashes such as “Let’s Go Crazy,” “When Doves Cry,” “Darling Nikki,” the title track “Purple Rain” and more. Minted Diamond by the RIAA for sales exceeding 13 million, the record stands out as the sixth best-selling soundtrack album in history, moving more than 22 million copies. Hailed by Vanity Fair as “the best soundtrack of all time,” Time Magazine placed it as the 15th greatest album ever.
The album won two 1985 GRAMMY Awards® in the categories of “Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal” and “Best Album of Original Score Written for a Motion Picture or Television Special.” Posthumously, it was honored as “Favorite Soundtrack” at the 2016 American Music Awards. It was also recently nominated for a 2017 Billboard Music Award in the category of “Top Soundtrack/Cast Album.”

2015 Paisley Park Remaster of the original tapes from the soundtrack, presenting an unheard vision of the album overseen by Prince himself before his untimely 2016 passing.

There's not a bad track on here, but "Let's Go Crazy", "Darling Nikki", "When Doves Cry" and "Purple Rain" are as good as anything ever recorded.

                                                                                      Prince

The last of this batch of "Purple Rain" single reissues treats us to Prince's all-conquering power pop smasher "When Doves Cry" backed with the equally essential non-album track "17 Days". I'm going to assume you're aware of the magnificent A-side (you do live on this planet after all...) and keep my gushing to a minimum, BUT, this is one of the finest pop songs ever written - synth funk to the power of rock riffage squared and he doesn't even bother with a bassline. Not only was "When Doves Cry" the best selling US single of 1984, it was also the first time since the Beatles that anyone had a number one movie, album and single all at the same time! If you don't know "17 Days", then allow me to make the introductions. "Snapping percussion, outrageous bass riff and killer hook, this is a Piccadilly customer...Piccadilly customer, this is the best Prince B-side!"

                                                                                        Prince & The Revolution

                                                                                        Purple Rain - 2017 Reissue

Possibly the most powerful of all ballads, the title track to Prince's cinematic masterpiece "Purple Rain" is one of those lighters-aloft slo-mo 80s moments that could bring a tear to a glass eye while simultaneously raising hairs, prompting goosebumps and making you want to smooch the living daylights out of your other half - pure pop perfection. On the flip we get the instrumental version of "God" a divine guitar workout with more noodle than a Pasta Paul lunchbreak....

                                                                                          John Coltrane & Don Cherry

                                                                                          The Avant-Garde (Mono Edition)

Coltrane gets together with Ornette Coleman's band members for this 1960 session (recorded just after "Giant Steps") which features three Coleman compositions, Monk's "Bemsha Swing" and Don Cherry's "Cherryco". As the title suggests, this is a meeting of the minds between some of the greatest innovators of 60s jazz - ace record!

                                                                                            John Coltrane

                                                                                            Ole Coltrane (Mono Edition)

This is the last of Coltrane's Atlantic label LPs, recorded in 1962 just two days after his debut for Impulse ("Africa / Brass"). This landmark LP features McCoy Tyner, Elvin Jones, Eric Dolphy, Freddie Hubbard, as well as bassists Art Davis and Reggie Workman. It includes the tracks "Ole" (an 18 minute epic), "Dahomey Dance" (clocking in at over ten minutes) and "Aisha". Once again John Coltrane proves his appreciable musical skills by ultimately advancing the entire Jazz-art-form with "Olé".
The title track is striking in resemblance to the Spanish influence heard on Miles Davis' "Sketches of Spain", although Olé takes this vibe a bit further; Coltrane's combo stretches out with inspired improvisations from Dolphy, Hubbard, Tyner, and of course Coltrane, respectively. The haunting beauty of "Aisha" stands as one of the finest collaborative efforts between Tyner - the song's author - and Coltrane.

                                                                                            John Coltrane

                                                                                            Giant Steps (Mono Edition)

John Coltrane’s landmark Atlantic album in glorious mono.

Saying farewell to bebop, "Giant Steps" was Coltrane's second album to be recorded for the Atlantic label, and marked the first time that all of the pieces on a recording had been composed by him. The recording exemplifies Coltrane's melodic phrasing that came to be known as 'sheets of sound', and features the use of a new harmonic concept later to be known as 'Coltrane changes'. The set features early versionss of "Naima", "Cousin Mary", "Mr PC", "Spiral", and "Syeeda's Song Flute".

                                                                                            John Coltrane

                                                                                            Trane: The Atlantic Collection

To coincide with the release of the John Coltrane documentary Chasing Trane, this 1 LP & 1 CD compilation with unique artwork, remastered for the release, is designed as an introduction to John Coltrane’s revered Atlantic recordings. Trane: The Atlantic Collection includes the hit single ‘My Favorite Things,’ the iconic ‘Giant Steps, ‘Naima’ and more, from one of the legends of the jazz world. The album features a new liner notes essay by Ben Ratliff, former NY Times jazz critic, & author of the 2007 biography ‘Coltrane: The Story of a Sound.’

                                                                                            Fleetwood Mac

                                                                                            Tango In The Night

During the summer of 1982, Fleetwood Mac released ‘Mirage’ which topped the album chart and added to the band’s already impressive canon of hits with “Hold Me,” “Love In Store” and “Gypsy.” They followed this album up in 1987 and released the second-best selling record of their career with ‘Tango in the Night,’ an album that’s sold more than 15 million copies worldwide. It topped the album charts in the UK and scored major hits everywhere with “Big Love” and “Little Lies.”

Latest in the series of Fleetwood Mac remastered edition.

                                                                                              Angelo Badalamenti

Twin Peaks - Fire Walk With Me

'Through the darkness of future past
                                                                                              The magican longs to see
One chance out between two worlds:
                                                                                              Fire walk with me...'

Seeming to emanate directly from the dark heart of the Black Lodge, "Fire Walk With Me" is an altogether more brooding affair than the Twin Peaks series soundtrack. The surreal atmosphere and airbrushed shimmer remain, but the melancholic notes, minor key melodies and sustained bass tones are perfectly in keeping with the unending disquiet and foreboding which David Lynch achieved. Badalamenti won a grammy for the title track of this LP and it’s not hard to see why- it’s dangerous, and bursting with smokey jazz thanks to Jimmy Scott.

                                                                                              Angelo Badalamenti

                                                                                              Music From Twin Peaks

"Lucy, put Harry on the horn." And so began the most unique, iconic and absurd series in the history of television. For two glorious seasons we pressed our nose to the glass and watched the strange and beautiful goings on in Washington's weirdest logging town. We looked on in awe as Cooper drank coffee, ate cherry pie and savoured the woodland smells, got close to Audrey but kept a respactable distance. We rooted for Norma and Ed, Harry and Joan, Andy and Lucy, Margaret and her log, and laughed ourselves queasy at James and Donna's hilariously wet highschool romance. We tried to find Laura Palmer's killer, figure out the Red Room and the Black Lodge and work out exactly how Cooper got in touch with Diane. We failed, gave up and enjoyed the goings on anyway. And throughout it all, we were swept along on the thematic perfection of Angelo Badalamenti's sublime score. From the swelling bass and dreamy chords of the title music to the bittersweet beauty of "Laura's Theme", from Audrey's seductive jazz to the smokey sweetness of "Dance Of The Dream Man", the score never put a foot wrong. And now, for the first time in 25 years it's back on vinyl and CD, freshly remastered and properly pressed by Warners ahead of a brand new series! Aces!

The film is produced by Amazon Studios, who have already executed an aggressive online marketing campaign behind it. As a dj I learned the hard way that when people requested Prince they meant "Kiss", in the same way that when the same people asked for Stevie Wonder, what they actually meant was "Superstition". It’s no mean feat to write a song (or several of them in Prince’s case) that can define you as an artist, believe me I spent a lot of years in my youth trying. Sadly I failed where Prince succeeded and am left in awe of his precise funk guitar, sturdy rhythms and unstoppable sex appeal. Covered by everyone from Tom Jones to Age Of Chance, "Kiss" is as good a record as you’ll hear in 2017 and your mum will probably love it too.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the band’s debut album, the Grateful Dead are releasing a 2CD deluxe set and a limited edition vinyl picture disc, a first for the Grateful Dead. The band recorded and mixed “The Grateful Dead” in five days before releasing it in March 1967. It captures the group’s early sound with a mix of electrified jug band stomps (“Sitting On Top of the World”), Chicago blues (“Good Morning Little School Girl”), crazed modal improv (“Viola Lee Blues”), and Dylan-y put-downs (“Cream Puff War”).

The vinyl picture disc features the newly remastered audio from the original tapes by David Glasser.

The 2CD version features new remastered audio from the original tapes by David Glasser - along with a bonus disc that features unreleased concert recordings from July 29 and 30, 1966 at the P.N.E. Garden Auditorium in British Columbia, mastered by Jeffrey Norman. This bonus disc unearths unreleased recordings from the band’s performances at the Vancouver Trips Festival in 1966. Only a few recordings from the Dead’s first two years exist, but each one reveals corners of the band’s repertoire not captured anywhere else. That’s especially true here, with three songs making their last appearance on any surviving Dead recording: “Standing On The Corner,” “You Don’t Have To Ask Me,” and “Cardboard Cowboy.”

A titan of popular music and pioneer of changing culture, it is not surprising that his death in January was met with such shock and sadness across the globe.

Throughout his life, David Bowie has amassed such an influential and varied musical back catalogue, that he leaves behind him a body of work that can be unrivalled – a true legacy.

In this must-have Bowie collection, you can experience Bowie’s genius from start to finish. From his early days as the iconic Ziggy Stardust, to his final days before his sudden passing, ‘Legacy’ brings you the best material from Bowie’s star-studded career.

Not only is ‘Legacy’ the ultimate Bowie collection to own, but it also features a previously unreleased mix of his renowned song ‘Life On Mars ?’. With a more orchestrated and cleaner mix, this unreleased version was mixed by Ken Scott the original producer of the track.

LONDON FOG 1966 is a brand new Collector’s Edition boxed set and virtual time capsule that features unearthed audio recorded at the club in May 1966. Previously unreleased and not even known to exist until recently, this marks the earliest recordings of the band and finds the quartet mixing blues covers with early versions of Doors originals.

Like many of the band’s early concerts, the show captured on this deluxe set reflects the group’s deep love for the blues with covers of standards like Muddy Waters’ “Rock Me” and “I’m Your Hoochie Coochie Man.” The set also includes raw performances of “Baby, Please Don’t Go” (Big Joe Williams), “Don’t Fight It” (Wilson Pickett), and “Lucille” (Little Richard).

Along with the unreleased music, the set is packed with memorabilia and historic liner notes to provide a true time capsule of that fabled night at the London Fog.

Music, art and fashion would not be in the place it is today without the seminal influence of David Bowie.

From his early days as the iconic Ziggy Stardust, to the final days of Blackstar, ‘Legacy’ brings you the best material from Bowie’s star-studded career.

This 2 disc deluxe version of the album features not only more hits but also fans favorites such as This Is Not America, Fashion and I Can’t Give Everything Away from the mighty Blackstar.

On Thanksgiving Day 1976, The Band took the stage for the very last time at the Winterland Theatre in San Francisco. The concert, aptly billed as The Last Waltz, has become one of the most revered performances of all time. For the show, Rick Danko, Levon Helm, Garth Hudson, Richard Manuel, and Robbie Robertson were joined by an all-star group of music pioneers, including Eric Clapton, Neil Diamond, Bob Dylan, Ronnie Hawkins, Dr. John, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, Muddy Waters, and Neil Young, among others. The evening was captured on film by director Martin Scorsese. Released theatrically in April 1978 to critical acclaim, The Last Waltz is still considered by many to be the greatest concert film ever made.

Robertson will be busy during The Last Waltz 40th anniversary. On November 15, he will release Testimony (Crown Archetype), a new memoir in which he finally tells his own spellbinding story of the band that changed music history, his extraordinary personal journey, and his creative friendships with some of the greatest artists of the last half-century.

The Stooges - Gold/Brown Vinyl Edition

An absolute classic! The Stooges debut album sounded like nothing else when it was released in 1969. With a kind of Stones-ey swagger and a heavy dose of garage rock they also embraced the more experimental scene that was flourishing in NYC at the time, led by The Velvet Underground.
They had an energy and attitude that epitomised punk 7 years before punk was invented! Including "1969", "No Fun", "I Wanna Be Your Dog" and "Real Cool Time", it's an album that still sounds as exciting and dynamic today.

First Step - Orange Vinyl Edition

When Steve Marriott left The Small Faces, Ronnie Lane and Ian McLagan recruited Ron Wood and charismatic frontman Rod Stewart and changed their name to The Faces. First Step, which was released in 1970, was their first LP. Gone was the smart, tight Mod sound (and style) of their previous incarnation, and in came a looser, bluesy rock’n’roll. As its name implies, this is the sound of a band finding its feet, and although it’s slightly shambolic, it’s all the better for it.

                                                                                                                    Led Zeppelin

The Complete BBC Sessions - Deluxe Edition

BBC Sessions was originally released in 1997 and has been certified double platinum by the RIAA. The Complete BBC Sessions builds on that collection with a third disc that boasts eight unreleased performances, plus “White Summer,” a recording that first surfaced in 1990 on the Led Zeppelin Boxed Set. In addition, the set includes extensive session-by-session liner notes written by Dave Lewis. For the first time ever, it provides accurate details and notes about all of the band’s BBC sessions.

Musical highlights on this new collection include the debut of a long-lost radio session that has achieved near-mythic status among fans. Originally broadcast in April 1969, the session included three songs: “I Can’t Quit You Baby,” “You Shook Me,” and the only recorded performance of “Sunshine Woman.”

Also included are two unreleased versions of both “Communication Breakdown” and “What Is And What Should Never Be.” Separated by two years, the performances vividly demonstrate the young band’s rapid evolution over a short period of time.

As with the previous reissues the audio has been newly remastered under supervision from Jimmy Page.

The Ramones (Johnny, Joey, Dee Dee and Tommy) sounded like nothing else when their self-titled debut came roaring onto the scene in 1976. Even so, original drummer Tommy Ramone did do a pretty good job describing the band’s primal sound when he penned the quartet’s press bio that same year. “The Ramones all originate from Forest Hills and kids who grew up there either became musicians, degenerates or dentists. The Ramones are a little of each,” he observed. “Their sound is not unlike a fast drill on a rear molar.” This year marks the 40th anniversary of Ramones, recently named the “Greatest Punk Album Of All Time” by Rolling Stone, and certainly one of the most important and influential albums of all time. This 29-minute masterpiece helped launch the punk rock scenes in both America and Britain, and also went on to inspire countless other artists for generations to come. To celebrate the Ramones’ lasting impact, Rhino has created the ultimate tribute to the band’s landmark debut

One of the true titans of soul music, and American pop as a whole, Aretha stands supreme in her genre, and the stream of world conquering hits collected here helped her secure the moniker 'Lady Soul', a title she still holds uncontested to this day. Boasting signature songs “Respect”, “I Say A Little Prayer” and “Chain of Fools” alongside classic pop covers “Let It Be”, “Call Me” and “Bridge Over Troubled Water”, this compilation is a must have for any self respecting soul fan.

'Forever Changes' is Love's all-time classic album from the so called ‘Summer of Love’ of 1967. Neil Young was originally planned to produce the album but when he dropped out at the last minute it fell to Elektra in-house producer Bruce Botnik. Rumoured drug problems and band fall-outs created a tense atmosphere but one which resulted in an album of intricately arranged acoustic guitar, swelling strings and Spanish horns combined with morbid and foreboding lyrics which prophesized an end to the golden age.

'Forever Changes' is inarguably Love's masterpiece and an album of enduring beauty, but it's also one of the few major works of its era that saw the dark clouds looming on the cultural horizon, and the result was music that was as prescient as it was compelling – Mark Deming.

Air have been one of the most iconic French acts of the last two decades, with worldwide hits that have shaped the forefront of modern electronica, calling on various styles and constantly crossing genre barriers, re-shaping the rules as they go. Boasting eight incredible studio albums and live shows that few can match in technical ability, this new compilation album will feature all the greatest hits of the past twenty years, as well as 14 rarities tracks.

Featuring hits such as ‘All I Need’, ‘Sexy Boy’ and ‘Kelly Watch The Stars’ this album is the perfect showcase to the incredible downtempo and psychedelic Zen that is Air, and with rare recordings that includes live sessions to truly encapsulate the prowess of their on stage presence.

Dexys need little introduction, under their previous guise as Dexys Midnight Runners with Kevin Rowland at the helm they sold millions of records and had 2 number ones in Geno and of course Come On Eileen. First forward 30 odd years and Dexys Midnight Runners are now Dexys and have been since their first new album in 27 years 2012’s One Day I’m Gonna Soar. Release to massive critical and public acclaim the album charted at number 13 and received a rapturous response both live and on record.

June 3rd sees the long awaited new album from Dexys, Let The Record Show: Dexys Do Irish And Country Soul, an album that Kevin Rowland has been wanting to do since 1985. Kevin says “It’s in the title-Dexys DO Irish and Country Soul, Dexys DO it, not BECOME it, we’re not trying to be Irish, we haven’t used too many Celtic instruments on there, It’s OUR sound.” Kevin has always followed his intuition, from the bold, poetic soul stylings of Searching For The Young Soul Rebels through the fervent folk of Too-Rye-Ay to the once misunderstood, now revered drama of Don’t Stand Me Down. Let The Record Show displays a mature confidence without sacrificing any of the charism that makes Dexys special.

The album is a collection of “re-interpretations“ of songs that Kevin holds dear for a number of reasons. Including covers of Bee Gees’ ‘To Love Somebody’, Rod Stewart’s ‘You Wear It well’ and Johnny Cash’s ‘40 Shades Of Green’. In addition to these there are the first two singles, ‘Both Sides Now’ written and performed by Joni Mitchell and also recorded by Judy Collins and the lesser known ‘Grazing In the Grass’ originally by The Friends Of Distinction.
