Stereo Type A - 2021 Reissue

The Japanese-born duo Miho Hatori and Yuka Honda relocated to New York and christened themselves with the band name Cibo Matto, which is Italian for “crazy food”. The band teamed up with drummer Sean Lennon, percussionist Duma Love and drummer Timo Ellis for their second studio album Stereo Type A, which was originally released in 1999. It was the last album before the group disbanded a few years later, until their 2011 reunion. With this album Cibo Matto received praise for combining styles and genres such as heavy metal, pop and hip hop, while the album was also described by critics as “eclectic, hot and funky”. It was the band’s way of breaking down stereotypes.

        The Coral

        Roots And Echoes - Reissue

"Roots & Echoes" is the fourth full-length album from cosmic scouse psyche rockers The Coral. Originally released in 2007, it was produced by Craig Silvey. As with their previous releases they're immersed in a heady mixture of folk, Merseybeat and psychedelia, but this time their sound was much more focused and refined than before. Another winner!!

              Rownderbowt (Coloured Vinyl) (RSD21 EDITION)

Chapterhouse was a British shoegaze band of the early 1990s, originally from Reading, England. Formed in 1987 by Andrew Sherriff and Stephen Patman, the band began performing alongside Spacemen 3. The Rownderbowt compilation, a highly-coveted 4-LP set features their biggest hits, rare tracks, various B-sides, demos and a remix of We Are Beautiful by Spooky. Rownderbowt was originally released on cd-only by Dedicated in 1996 and serves as a reminder to Chapterhouse fans about what the band might eventually do should it decide to record again. Patman quotes We were writing a lot of material in the lead in to splitting up, and we ended up with a lot of songs which the label was not releasing because they wanted to have a hit single, and we were just not that type of band. And a lot of that ended up on Rownderbowt, and that represents that side of us more. Sherriff sees some of those demos and unreleased tracks as a blueprint for where Chapterhouse not only might have once gone, but could possibly go one day in the future.. Rownderbowt turns 25 in 2021. This year on Record Store Day, Music on Vinyl in cooperation with Sony Music release the album on vinyl for the first time; A limited 25th anniversary edition on black & white marbled vinyl. This 4-LP set is placed in a deluxe slip-case with spot-varnish. The package includes an insert with pictures and liner notes.

                Simples (10") (RSD21 EDITION)

It would be futile, at this point in time, to sing the praises of MAGMA; it has become a legend. The group became successful in France very quickly and this fame soon spread abroad. Clearly Magma is one of the most influential of all French bands. They have left a legacy of music that defies any of the standard and convenient classifications of rock, operating instead in a realm of their own creation. It waits to be discovered by new converts, and continually by older fans alike. Simples. This 10 inch combines some highly sought after Older 7inches .

                  Salt Peter

Lesley Rankine (Silverfish) and Mark Walk (Skinny Puppy) formed Ruby in 1995. Ruby’s first album, Salt Peter, was released in 1995. The album would produce three singles, all of which would chart in the UK. It was made almost entirely using computers and without a band. Salt Peter’s first single was “Paraffin”, released in November 1995. The compilation New Voices vol. 3 from Rolling Stone featured this song as its second track. It was followed up with what is perhaps Ruby’s best known song, “Tiny Meat”, which was also released in 1995. It would be the only song by the band to chart in the United States, reaching at #22 on the Modern Rock Tracks list. This song was also included in the compilation MTV Fresh 2. Another single, “Hoops” came out in early 1996. Later in that year the promotion-only single for the track “Swallow Baby” was put out for radio play. Additionally, the song “This Is” was used on the soundtrack to the popular 1996 film The Cable Guy.

Salt Peter is a dark, eerie fusion of trip-hop and industrial, with quietly menacing beats and droning synths. Provocative, as well as well-written. Salt Peter remains a promising debut. It is released as a limited edition of 500 individually numbered copies on “Tiny Meat” (transparent red & black mixed) coloured vinyl.

                    Boo Radleys

                    Wake Up!

The Boo Radleys’ third album Wake Up! reached the number one spot in the UK album charts. Although their previous albums received critical acclaim, this was the album which opened the doors to a much bigger audience. One of the factors was the release of the sunny Britpop Top 10 single “Wake Up Boo!”. It became their biggest hit internationally and it was the most-played song on the UK radio in 1995. The second an third single, “Find The Answer Within” and “It’s Lulu”, also charted in the UK Top 40. Different styles of British pop can be found in their music, but most of the darkness of their previous records are replaced by the grand pop with big choruses and bright melodies.

3 Years, 5 Months & 2 Days In The Life Of...

3 Years, 5 Months & 2 Days in the Life Of... is the debut album by American Hip Hop group Arrested Development, released in 1992. The album's chart success was the beginning of the popularization of Southern Hip Hop. The album stood in stark contrast to the gangsta rap that ruled the Hip Hop charts in 1992, in its focus on spirituality, peace and love. It was voted as the best album of the year in The Village Voice Pazz & Jop critics poll. The album's title refers to the length of time it took Arrested Development to get a record contract. The album charted at #3 in the UK Charts, and #7 in the Billboard 200. Charting singles that came off the album are "People Everyday", "Mr. Wendal" and "Tennessee". The latter song is part of the The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll list.

                              Troublegum - Reissue

Therapy? are an alternative metal band from Northern Ireland. The band was formed in 1989 by guitarist-vocalist Andy Cairns and drummer-vocalist Fyfe Ewing. To complete the lineup, the band recruited bassist Michael McKeegan.

1994 saw the release of the commercially successful Troublegum album which earned the band appearances at a string of rock and indie festivals, including Reading, Donington and Phoenix in the UK alone, as well as a clutch of top 40 singles. It achieved a string of nominations in end-of-year polls, including a Mercury Music Prize nomination, and success at the Kerrang! Awards.

The album has a melodically dark, metal-like sound. Troublegum is generally considered to be Therapy? at their musical and commercial peak and has since sold over one million copies worldwide.

The album includes singles and videos for “Screamager”, “Turn”, “Nowhere”, “Trigger Inside”, “Die Laughing” and “Isolation” (Joy Division cover).

                                Death In Vegas

                                The Contino Sessions

Scorpio Rising is the third album by British electronica band Death in Vegas, which features guest vocalists Liam Gallagher, Hope Sandoval, Nicola Kuperus, and Paul Weller. Death in Vegas’ Richard Fearless and Tim Holmes created one of their finest records by combining synths with guitar rock and psychedelia. A taste of “My Bloody Valentine” and some electro pulses are thrillingly constructed in the different parts of the album. They’re using different samples in their sounds, so you can hear classics like “Rock Around the Clock” (Bill Haley & His Comets) and “Goin’ Back” (The Byrds). Several songs on the album have appeared on film soundtracks, “Girls” is featured on the soundtrack to the 2003 film Lost in Translation and “Hands Around My Throat” is featured on the Animatrix soundtrack.

Richard Fearless is the only active member of the original Death in Vegas line-up. Their sound is influenced by rock, dub and industrial music.

                                  The Coral

                                  Magic And Medicine

The Coral are an English rock band, formed in 1996 by Ian Skelly, Paul Duffy, James Skelly, Lee Southall and Bill Ryder-Jones. The band first emerged during the early 2000s and found success with their debut album The Coral [MOVLP338]. Their self-titled debut album was nominated for the 2002 Mercury Music Prize and later voted the fourth best album of the year by NME Magazine.

Magic and Medicine is the second album by The Coral, released in 2003 in the United Kingdom, where it debuted at number 1 in the charts. The singles “Don’t Think You’re the First” and “Pass It On” entered the top ten in the UK.

The album title originates from a lyric in Time Travel, the hidden track on the band’s debut album: “Well there’s a war going on, ain’t the obvious one. It’s between magic and medicine”.

This is The Coral’s last album with Bill Ryder-Jones, who departed in 2008 to start a very successful solo-career.

British shoegazing/alternative rock band Chapterhouse released two albums during their existence, Whirlpool (1991) and Blood Music (1993). The second and final album has a more pronounced electronic sound than its predecessor. But they also managed to keep many elements of shoegaze in their music. This thrilling record defines their music in singles like "She's a Vision" and "We Are the Beautiful". The album ends with the awesome "Picnic," a 15-minute ambient/rock piece that arguably was their best-ever number.

                                      A Wizard, A True Star

Todd Rundgren’s masterpiece "A Wizard, A True Star" has everything to offer from the American multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter. The studio genius recorded an album which was a significant departure from his previous album "Something / Anything?" With the money from the hit singles of this previous record he had built his own studio in New York, Secret Sound, and began recording "A Wizard, A True Star". It’s pure greatness packed in 19 tracks, which just sporadically clocks above 2 minutes each. Psychedelic drugs had a big influence on the recording process. The beauty and hysteria of the music fits the bill perfectly. Humour and superior recording techniques going together in optima forma. Yes, this is one of those rare recordings which goes into history, and it still stand the test of time.

Todd Rundgren is an American multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, and record producer who has performed a diverse range of styles as a solo artist and as a member of the band Utopia. He is known for his stage outfits, experimental music and adopting computer technologies to describe his musical ideas.

Andy says: Todd's undisputed masterpiece, blends psych, soul and beautiful melody, in an explosive, mind bending manner.

                                        Pygmalion - Coloured Vinyl Edition

When Slowdive disbanded in 1995 music fans widely associated it with the demise of the shoegaze genre. Their last sign of life was Pygmalion (before they reunited in 2014) and it was, after Just For A Day and Souvlaki a totally different and more abstract album. Where the band attempted to put more song structures in place on Souvlaki, they began to incorporate more elements of ambient electronica on Pygmalion. Tracks like “Blue Skied An’ Clear” and “Crazy For You” demonstrate that the songs are still there, somewhere -- they’re just buried under more abstract sounds than before.

Available as a 25th anniversary edition of 3000 individually numbered copies on clear & green marbled vinyl. The package includes an insert.

                                          Tin Machine II

Originally released by Victory Music in 1991, Tin Machine II is the second and final studio album by Tin Machine. After this album and the supporting tour, frontman David Bowie resumed his solo career.

Tin Machine II’s reputation has only increased over the years. Uncut magazine placed the album on their list of 50 Great Lost Albums (their list of great albums not currently available for purchase), calling the album “extraordinary”.

As with all Bowie albums, there are plenty of strong tracks here to make this a must have. Opening track “Baby Universal” is pure Bowie. He re-recorded this track in 1996 for his 1997 album Earthling, but the track was not released on the album. It was eventually released in 2020 on the Bowie EP Is it Any Wonder?. The first single “You Belong in Rock n’ Roll” was released ahead of the album and peaked at No. 33 in the UK. The second single “Baby Universal” achieved success on the Modern Rock chart in the USA, where it reached No. 21, and the third and last single “One Shot” became an even bigger hit, reaching No. 3.

The album’s cover (which was censored for its original USA release!) was created by Edward Bell, who had previously worked with Bowie in making artwork for Scary Monsters. The MOV cover features a spot varnish finish.

Music On Vinyl gives Tin Machine II its first vinyl re-release since the 1991 original, and it’s pressed on coloured vinyl for the very first time. The initial pressing is a limited edition of 10000 individually numbered copies on silver coloured vinyl.

Reload (Mark Pritchard And Tom Middleton)

A Collection Of Short Stories - Coloured Vinyl Edition

Collection of Short Stories is an ambient electronic masterpiece produced by Mark Pritchard and Tom Middleton (collectively also known as Global Communication). This first full-length by the duo, released as Reload, charted the dark side of the ambient-techno, long before it became popular. This incredibly atmospheric early 90s collection is one of the best from the genre and a must have for every electronic music fan.

Available as a limited edition of 2000 individually numbered copies on translucent yellow vinyl. The package includes 24-page booklet with introduction and short stories written by Dominic Fripp.

                                              Todd Rungdren

Reluctant to start a full-fledged solo career after leaving the Nazz, Todd Rundgren formed Runt, a band that was a front for what was in effect a solo project. Such isolationism lends Runt its unique atmosphere -- it is the insular work of a fiercely talented artist finally given the opportunity to pursue his off-kilter musical vision.

From the moment the slow, bluesy psychedelic grind of "Broke Down and Busted" starts the album, it's apparent that Rundgren could never have made Runt with the Nazz -- and that's before the introspective ballads or the willfully strange stuff kicks in. Throughout the record, Rundgren reveals himself as a gifted synthesist, blending all manners of musical styles and quirks into a distinctive signature sound. He's as interested in sound as he is in song and while he would later pursue these tendencies to extremes, Runt finds him learning how to create an effective sound with the studio, which may be the reason why the album runs the gamut from hard rockers like "Who's That Man?" to ballads like "Once Burned."

Although these songs are instantly appealing, the album really gets interesting when he reaches between those two extremes, whether it's in the classic pop medley "Baby Let's Swing," the bizarrely tongue-in-cheek "I'm in the Clique," or the equally impish "We Gotta Get You a Woman," which gave Rundgren his first hit. All the details buried within these songs -- not only in the deceptively direct productions, but within the writing itself -- confirm Rundgren's exceptional skill at songcraft. He occasionally slips on Runt, delivering tracks that rely on production instead of a blend of studiocraft and songcraft, but it remains a thoroughly impressive debut and one of his finest pop records--All Music

The Dandy Warhols released their second album ...The Dandy Warhols Come Down in 1997. The album spawned three singles “Not If You Were the Last Junkie on Earth”, “Every Day Should Be a Holiday” and “Boys Better”. The final album featuring drummer Eric Hedford consists of excellent chord progressions and brilliantly produced tracks. It’s modern indie rock in which they blend different layers of music. In 2001, the band rose to new levels of fame after their song “Bohemian Like You” was included in a Vodafone advertisement.

Hawkwind’s debut album is an extensive mix of psychedelic and progressive rock, resulting in the so called space-rock. As one of the pioneers in this genre they recorded a bunch of deep soundscapes, combining the best of different genres. The sound of the band is original and the approach is naive in a good sense. This debut can be seen as the highlight of their career, capturing the true spirit of this raw and communal musical movement. The Pretty Things guitarist Dick Taylor produced the debut album by Hawkwind, after he had left his former group.

                                                      First Utterance

First Utterance is the debut album of the progressive folk band Comus. It was released in 1971, with the opening song “Diana” being released as a single.

The album was notable for its unique blend of progressive rock, folk, psychedelia, and elements of paganism and the macabre. The overall thematic tone of the album is of vulnerable innocence facing abusive power, the songs dealing with violence (“Drip Drip”), rape (“Diana”, “Song to Comus”), and insulin shock therapy (“The Prisoner”). These themes contrast starkly with the acoustic sound of the record, featuring acoustic guitar, violin, flute, and lyrical, almost Arcadian, female harmonies.

References to Comus by other bands and artists include Opeth, citing its lyrics in album and song titles and tattoos. Experimental outfit Current 93 also covered “Diana” as the opening song on their 1997 LP Horsey.

The cover artwork was drawn in ball point pen by Roger Wootton, lead singer and songwriter of the band. The centrefold artwork was painted by guitarist Glenn Goring.

Reviews were favourable, such as the NME praised the album’s “highly unusual but fascinating sound” and Time Out said “the overall effect is unique”.

Just For A Day - 180g Audiophile Vinyl Edition

Slowdive were, in one way, a reaction to the fist-aloft bravado of the arse-end of baggy. Yet their gorgeous swathes of disorientating, hypnotic sound actually perfectly fitted in with early morning comedowns; we're talking about 1991 here! They aimed for a womb-like cosy dreaminess and with their three pre-album EPs looked like they were going to take over. "Slowdive", "Morningrise" and "Just For A Day" are all included here. Their main influence was The Cocteau Twins, but along with My Bloody Valentine, early Boo Radleys and others, the press christened them 'shoe-gazers'. A lot was written and there were just as many detractors as fans, but this fan, along with many others, was a little dissapointed by this, their debut LP. Yes it flows, drifts then envelops, but the songs weren't quite as good as expected. But, y'know: tell that to Babyshambles! With the inclusion of those lovely three EPs and a three-song Peel Session, this is now a very lush (though occasionally meandering) and beautiful disc. Recommended.

The Pentangle was the 1968 debut album of the band Pentangle: Terry Cox, Bert Jansch, Jacqui McShee, John Renbourn and Danny Thompson. It brought together their separate influences of folk, jazz, blues, early music and contemporary song-writing. One of the band’s most commercially successful albums, it reached number 21 in the British charts.

By the time that the album was produced, the members of Pentangle were already accomplished musicians, in their own fields, and had played together in various combinations. Jansch and Renbourn were recognised as solo artists and played together regularly, including their recording of the Bert And John album. McShee had sung folk and blues in pubs and clubs, and had recorded with Renbourn on Another Monday. Cox and Thompson were experienced session musicians and had played together in Alexis Korner’s band.

'Kissing To Be Clever' is the debut album by Culture Club. Originally released in 1982, it immediately put the band on the musical map. Turning the flamboyant Boy George into a star, the soulful outing incorporated elements of pop, rock, new wave, dance and Caribbean rhythms and sprouted several international hit songs.

“Do You Really Want To Hurt Me” hit the #1 spot in several countries and turned out to be a song that resonates to this day with its universal feel of heartache. All in all, this set is a highlight of 80s pop music, that set the stage for one of the decade’s most loved and oft-remembered bands.

World Gone Wrong - 180g Vinyl Edition

'World Gone Wrong' is the 29th Bob Dylan studio album, released in 1993. It was Dylan’s second consecutive collection of only traditional folk songs, performed acoustically with guitar and harmonica. The songs tend to deal with darker and more tragic themes than the previous outing, 'Good As I Been To You'.

'World Gone Wrong' is an exceptional album, boasting a strong set of songs given performances so fully realized that they seemed like modern protest songs. Much of this record is fairly obscure to anyone outside of dedicated folk fans; “Delia” (covered by Johnny Cash the following year) and “Stack-A-Lee” are the most familiar items, yet they’re given traditional readings, meaning that the latter doesn’t quite seem like “Stagger Lee.”

But even if these are traditionalist, they’re spirited and lively renditions, and Dylan seems more connected to the music than he has in years. That sense of connection, plus the terrific choice of songs, makes this one of his best, strongest albums of the second half of his career.

Featuring Haruomi Hosono (bass, keyboards, vocals), Yukihiro Takahashi (drums, lead vocals) and Ryuichi Sakamoto (keyboards, vocals), the trio hit their stride with this second long player, a brisk and confident set of synth-disco pop tracks that continues along the line drawn five years before by Kraftwerk. Fun-loving and breezy where Kraftwerk had been ponderous and statuesque, the album sets out YMO's template for electronic pop with less minimalism and a more varying use of synthesizer lines. The English lyrics, written by Chris Mosdell but sung by YMO themselves, make for hilarious listening especially on a cover of the Beatles' "Day Tripper".

Viewed as one of the world's most popular jazz singers, she performed alongside Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie, Frank Sinatra and Duke Ellington. Her outstanding performances on record and live yielded both critical and popular success during her lifetime.

I first discovered the music of Ella Fitzgerald in a small bookshop and had to know what was playing – It was ‘Under a Blanket of Blue’ with Louis Armstrong; it’s been a favourite of mine ever since. Sixteen Stone is the debut album of British rock band Bush, released in 1994. Widely regarded as the band’s most popular album, it peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and boasted numerous successful singles. “Comedown” and “Glycerine” remain two of the band’s biggest hits to date, each reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart. Both tracks also entered the Billboard Hot 100, reaching No. 30 and No. 28, respectively.

Sixteen Stone received mostly positive feedback from music critics, calling their sound impressive, not unlike their Seattle Grunge counterparts. In later years Bush would distance themselves from the familiar Grunge sounds with experimental releases such as Deconstructed and The Science Of Things.

In April 2014 Rolling Stone placed the album at No. 39 on its “1994: The 40 Best Records From Mainstream Alternative’s Greatest Year” list. A month later, Loudwire placed Sixteen Stone at number eight on its “10 Best Hard Rock Albums of 1994” list. In July 2014, Guitar World placed the album on its “Superunknown: 50 Iconic Albums That Defined 1994” list.

Third Eye Blind is the eponymous debut for the American alternative rock band Third Eye Blind, originally released in 1997. It spawned several singles, including top 10 charting “Semi-Charmed Life”, “Jumper”, and “How’s It Going to Be”. While Third Eye Blind peaked at #25 on the Billboard 200, it spent 104 weeks on the charts. It is the group’s bestselling album, having been certified 6x Platinum.

Third Eye Blind is catchier than the average post-grunge album, and that fact alone reveals a lot about the band. Instead of relying on standard, plodding grunge influences, Third Eye Blind draw heavily from the simple hook-laden traditions of classic Arena Rock, which makes the album more immediate. Third Eye Blind is easy on the ears, and its straight-ahead professionalism makes it a pleasurable listen for post-grungers.

In the early Seventies he was the leader of the jazz-rock group Placebo. Moulin was one of Belgium's jazz legends, making jazz-influenced records for over 30 years. Marc Moulin's three Placebo albums are the 'Holy Grail' for the rare groove crowd, a sector of music fans who love that unique 70s style of cool.

Their eponymous third album is glossy, elaborate Benelux jazz-jock which could be labeled Library music as well - having themes that could easily accompany a cult 70's detective series. Its seductive rhythms, combined with tasteful arrangements, make this LP difficult to walk away from.

Hercules OST - Blue Vinyl Edition

Hercules (2014) is a riveting adventure blockbuster directed by Brett Ratner and starring Dwayne Johnson (aka The Rock), Joseph Fiennes, John Hurt and more. It is based on the graphic novel Hercules: The Thracian Wars.

The film was a pleasant surprise to critics. The chief film critic for Variety wrote: “it’s a grandly staged, solidly entertaining, old-fashioned adventure movie that does something no other Hercules movie has quite done before: it cuts the mythical son of Zeus down to human size (or as human as you can get while still being played by Dwayne Johnson)” and further added that “[Hercules’s] strongest asset is surely Johnson, who continues to foster one of the most affable, guileless screen personas in movies today.”

The music epic, driving, classic and cool. All of these adjectives were used to describe the music desired by the creative team making Hercules. Composer Fernando Velázquez rose to the occasion and delivered a fantastic score. The recording sessions took place at Air Studios and Abbey Road Studios in London, with Fernando conducting the tremendous London Philharmonic Orchestra.

It was released in 1994, right after the band toured with Biohazard and House of Pain. The album’s themes mainly consisted of both drug and child abuse. Korn was well received by music critics. The band stormed the alternative scene virtually overnight, and is said to have established Nu-Metal.

Bands like Coal Chamber and Limp Bizkit were inspired by the album’s rage, emphasising similar grooves and song structures, including some Hip Hop elements. Slipknot, Machine Head, and Sepultura were also inspired by the album. The album launched the career of record producer Ross Robinson, who later produced albums such as Three Dollar Bill, Yall by Limp Bizkit and Slipknot’s first two albums.

A little more than a year after release, the album went Gold in the United States. The album spawned 4 singles; “Blind”, followed by “Need To”, “Shoots and Ladders” and “Clown”. The album has now sold over 10 million copies worldwide and was never before issued on vinyl.

Alanis Morissette defined the alternative female Pop sound in the ‘90s, with a string of hits under her belt from the million-seller albums Jagged Little Pill (1995) and Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie (1998). In 1999 she performed a selection of personal favourites live at MTV Unplugged, with an emphasis on the non-hit material from the Supposed album. Morissette wanted to prove she’s more than ‘just’ the hits she produced, resulting in her daring step to not perform some of her contemporary hits including “Thank U” and “So Pure”. MTV Unplugged shows a multi-faceted artist, fully grown into her own and strong as ever.

Original vinyl copies are extremely hard to find. To celebrate MTV Unplugged’s reissue, we’re pressing this record in a limited first edition of 1000 gold/red marbled copies. Be quick to snag one of these!

'Chain Gang Of Love', originally released in August 2003, is The Raveonettes' first full length album after they debuted with the critically acclaimed 'Whip It On' mini album in 2002.

Their sound has often been compared with that of the noisy and distorted Jesus And Mary Chain, while the Velvet Underground and even the vocal harmonies of the Everly Brothers are never far away either. The most noticeable difference in sound between the debut EP, which had all songs in B-flat minor, and this album is that here all songs are in B-flat major. The result is an album drenched in an uplifting fifties and sixties sound.

Because of this wall of sound you might expect a Phil Spector production, but Sune Rose Wagner himself (one half of the Danish duo which is The Raveonettes) and Richard Gottehrer (producer for a.o. Blondie and The Go-Go's, and founder of Sire Records) were responsible for this remarkable and uplifting release.

Three local teenagers were arrested and given life sentences, one of them was to be executed. Then in 2011, after a tireless campaign involving rock stars, movie actors and supporters from the public the three were released. These famous people all contributed to create awareness and prove the innocence of the three convicted men. Famed movie director Peter Jackson decided to shoot a documentary on the subject, called West Of Memphis: Voices For Justice. Amongst others, Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder and Patti Smith used their songs for various benefit activities for the case. Johnny Depp’s version of Little Lion Man, as well as all the other songs on the soundtrack, played an important role in the life of prime suspect Damien Echols whose innocence was proven in 2011. After eighteen years in prison he declared: “Music has always played a huge role in my life. In my early years it allowed me to escape the crushing poverty I was born into. Then, when I was put on trial, it was music they used against me. My love of heavy metal was considered ‘proof’ that I was evil and a satanic murderer. And then, ultimately, it was music that helped to free me” said Damien Echols.

Much is made of his older brother Brian's tortured genius, but Beach Boys drummer Dennis Wilson had his own deeply artistic statement to make - one he made with moody, heartrending beauty and fathomless, soulful introspection on his 1977 masterpiece, "Pacific Ocean Blue". Besides being the first solo album by a member of the Beach Boys, "Pacific Ocean Blue" is a lost classic of 70s West Coast rock, a richly orchestrated opus that swaths the singer-songwriter's delicate and profoundly personal observations in epic, wide-screen arrangements that easily match the drama of the celluloid blockbusters made in his Hollywood back yard. Awash in studio strings and layered, breathy melodies, the piano-sprinkled balladry of tracks like "Thoughts of You" and "End Of The Show" offer glimpses of a more tender, wounded, and never-before-seen side of this most famously free-spirited Beach Boys member; while such ecology-themed meditations as "River Song" (which boasts flashes of hard rock) and the title cut reflect other topics close to the drummer's heart. But despite the album's more serious subject matter, the Beach Boys' good-time pop is still firmly on deck with the horn-pumping R&B of "What's Wrong" and the sunshine lilt of "Rainbows". No wonder Brian Wilson himself is one of "Pacific Ocean Blue"'s biggest fans.

What Color Is Love - 180g Vinyl Edition

Terry Callier's 'What Color Is Love' (1973) is an essential soul-jazz album that should belong in anyone's record collection. This record was produced by Charles Stepney, whose work with Cadet / Chess records, Rotary Connection and Earth, Wind & Fire earned him popular acclaim. Filled with soul, funk, rock, folk, jazz, and even classical influences, vocalist Callier can be heard on this album to the most intriguing heights.

"Dancing Girl" opens the album with Stepney's majestic orchestration. Songs like "What Color Is Love" and "Ho Tsing Mee", an elegant anti-war prayer of confusion, somehow avoid clichés or take them to another level.

Callier's passionate voice captures the sweeping drama of the human condition. A lost romantic amid "concrete frond yards," this album is a must-have for any music connoisseur.

Recorded in New York in 1967, 'Silk & Soul' is Nina Simone's second album for RCA. Despite arrangements that don't always best suit her voice, this album does contain classics "I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free", which would become a Civil Rights anthem and "It Be's That Way Sometimes", written by her brother Sam Waymon. "The Turning Point"' is a song that seems to be about a child making a new friend, but turns out to question the origins of racism.

Ms Simone also takes on Dusty Springfield by covering "The Look Of Love", which was originally featured in the 1966 James Bond spoof Casino Royale. She's greatly inspired by Mozart in the fugue-like "Consummation".

As the sleeve notes on this 1967 LP say, 'Simone is neither all jazz nor all pop; neither all soul or all R&B. She is neither all folk nor all folk protest; neither poetess or balladeer. She is simply Nina Simone, a voice in this wilderness of modernity and industrialized society which cries out to be heard'.
