About this item

1993 and Slowdive, kings and queens of the shoegazers, release their masterpiece. Nobody was listening. They'd had all the hype and (inevitable) backlash around their debut, but now when they totally and convincingly deliver the goods, in a world consumed by Suede (at home) and Nirvana (abroad), apart from a few diehards, it was shrugs all round. How wrong they were! This is a stunningly beautiful album with a direct pop nous that's more Mary Chain than Cocteaus. It's full of yearning and dreams but also in "Souvlaki Space Station" a proper ambient/dub arse-quaker. Not one bad song: it's all brilliant. It's the ultimate in dreampop!
