About this item
Slowdive were, in one way, a reaction to the fist-aloft bravado of the arse-end of baggy. Yet their gorgeous swathes of disorientating, hypnotic sound actually perfectly fitted in with early morning comedowns; we're talking about 1991 here! They aimed for a womb-like cosy dreaminess and with their three pre-album EPs looked like they were going to take over. "Slowdive", "Morningrise" and "Just For A Day" are all included here. Their main influence was The Cocteau Twins, but along with My Bloody Valentine, early Boo Radleys and others, the press christened them 'shoe-gazers'. A lot was written and there were just as many detractors as fans, but this fan, along with many others, was a little dissapointed by this, their debut LP. Yes it flows, drifts then envelops, but the songs weren't quite as good as expected. But, y'know: tell that to Babyshambles! With the inclusion of those lovely three EPs and a three-song Peel Session, this is now a very lush (though occasionally meandering) and beautiful disc. Recommended.
