New producer Chicago Damn brings his debut release via Mark E's Merc stable. He may be the new boy on Merc but the quality of these cuts suggest he's been busy in the studio refining his art for a while. This 12" offers us two slammin peak-time chuggers that have been part of Mark E's sets for the last month. On "Hold On" we get deep Afro chants crossed with looped-up ethnic weirdness - think 23 Skidoo remade for 2010. "Be Your Man" moves out of the jungle and onto the dancefloor, grabbing some soul-funk samples as it passes (Dyke & The Blazers' "Let A Woman Be A Woman Let A Man Be A Man" I reckon). The result is another high powered house belter. Recommended!
