Kerri Chandler & Dennis Quin Featuring Troy Denari

You Are In My System

Kerri Chandler, Dennis Quin and Troy Denari join forces to deliver ‘You Are In My System' this September, a modern take on the iconic 1998 ‘You’re In My System’.

The original mix of ‘You’re In My System’ has been a staple for many in House music DJ sets for the past twenty-five years, a record that perfectly encapsulates the soul of House and Kerri’s distinctive sound. Here we see Kerri Chandler put a contemporary twist on this celebrated cut from his back catalogue, this time collaborating again with vocalist Troy Denari and Dutch artist Dennis Quin, who’s delivered numerous hits on Kerri’s Madhouse imprint such as ‘Move Out Of My Way’ and the last collaboration between the three, ‘Be Strong’.

Here the three artists collaborated to rework and replay the entire composition and create this new 2023 version, Kerri and Dennis using the same hardware used in the original composition and singer/songwriter Troy Denari, lends his vocals to this new version of the track, reimagining the vocals of Mic Murphy to capture the essence and spirit of the 1980's hit by American Synthpop band The System.

Throughout 'You Are In My System' Kerri Chandler’s signature soulful keys, bouncy bass line and dynamic synth work ebbs and flows amongst Dennis Quin's sturdy, swinging and crisp drum style while Troy Denari's refreshed vocals then bring a modern soul and warmth to things, resulting in the dynamic future classic presented here, destined to work its way onto many late summer dancefloors and beyond. Dennis Quin also offers up his 'DQ Dub' for a more raw groove focused fix.

    Kaiserdisco

    Error In The System

Kaiserdisco share their first Drumcode EP in eight years. With a knack for clever vocal hooks and crisp production, Kaiserdisco are never far from Adam Beyer’s thinking when it comes scheduling Drumcode releases. With this in mind, it feels almost unbelievable to think ‘Error in the System’ will be the duo’s first EP on Drumcode since 2016.
In recent times the pair has contributed tracks to the label, highlighted last year’s ‘Get on the Dancefloor’ on A – Sides Vol.12 and their popular single ‘Together One Time’ from 2022. ‘Error in the System’ marks their return to the EP format and is an absolute treat. Lead track ‘In the Music’ is a trippy roller that lures you into a dancefloor trance via an addictive vocal hook, before morphing into an acid - drenched stomper in the second half. The title track is a peak - time head spinner, characterised by muted tones and industrial effects, it’s an eerie and powerful slice of club machinery crafted for maximum impact.

    STAFF COMMENTS

Barry says: A pumping duo of snapping 808's and 16th drum fills, both pieces here are rich in the techno tradition and come on a label that's probably one of the most well known in the game. If you're a fan of the uptempo electronic business (Rusty), this one's for you.

    Change Da System / Knights

A two-track 12" with fresh artwork and a nice heavyweight pressing, with one side taken by each artist. Sy Sez kicks off 'Change Da System' with dub-wise vocals which then make way for a tight, taught, bouncing house groove with fat bass. Things are utterly different on the flip with Leeds legend and sometime Nightmares on Wax collaborator offering the deep house delights of 'Knights' with its soulful vocal whispers, intimate late night chords and warm, candle-lit vibes.

    STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: "Knights" had me hooked - a bassline to die for, and vocals to claw your heart out to. The chunky house of "Change Da System" means there's a bit a punch for the club too, if that's your thing.

Los Angeles-based ASHRR are back with a new cut which comes from their forthcoming Sunshine Low album which they have re-interpreted as their ASHRR Soundsystem alter ego, while System Olympia also steps up with a remix on this fine new package from 20/20 Vision. In the hands of the latter, 'What's Been Turning You' is a remix with plenty of hi-fidelity cosmic details over mid-tempo deep nu-disco drums. The version from ASHRR is a chugging and Italo-tinged classic with loose-limbed and jumbled drum funk and plenty of bright, shiny arps. A great collection then.

    STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Following up that essential release from last year on 20/20 Vision, ASHRR hammer home their strengths as new comic / electro-disco main players with a release that should have fans of Baldelli, ALFOS, Idjut Boys and everyone in between wetting their pants with joy.

    The System

333 reissues a massive sought-after and obscure Jazzbo-produced 45 from Stanford Shirley. The System was recorded at Harry J's studio and released in 1987 on the late Linval Carter's Ujama label. Though one of the lesser known cuts from Jazzbo's late 80s production stable, it is surely up there with one of the best. Killer archetypal digi business.

"Blackmarket Seminar", an album by Kazi and it's entirely produced by Madlib. Guest features by Madlib, MED, Wildchild, Declaime (Dudley Perkins) and Oh No. The album was recorded in 1996, remastered in 2016 and now available again on vinyl.

'We recorded this album in the wee hours at CDP studios back in '96. It was pretty much me, Madlib and Declaime in the lab when this album was recorded. I learned so much from Lib cadence, rhyme patterns, timing and how to dig for records. What some people don't know is this cat actually took the time to show me how to make beats. I must say working with Lib was an amazing experience. The "Blackmarket Seminar" is a very raw and dark album. We came up with "Black Market" because at the time we were doing Hip Hop that nobody else was doing and to us you could only get it on the "Black Market". When you first play the album you'll hear characters on a skit in search of the black market seminar. We really tried to make it seem like the characters were outside walking around looking for it.

We recorded a new video for the song "To Be Lost" as it is about MCs selling out to remain in the game and still makes perfect sense in the present day.'

Los Angeles wordsmith Pawz One teams up with German producer DJ Dister on the collaborative album "Watch & Learn" via Below System Records.

"Watch & Learn" captures scenarios of street life, hustling and paranoia all painted over well-crafted production. Pawz One has come off a string of recent releases that have sharpened his song writing ability while Dister has produced various projects expanding his diverse sound.

For Pawz One "Watch & Learn" has given him a chance to speak on topics that were close to heart having lost friends and family to the streets and prison as well as serving time himself. DJ Dister showcases a wide range of production that combines a classic sound with progressive elements.

The first single "World Champion" moves listeners with the energetic track fused with a dash of reggae and Pawz's combination of punchlines and wordplay. On the follow up single "Out Here", Pawz One and Guilty Simpson lay out the often ignored rules of the streets over a sinister soundtrack. "No Contest" is the last single pitting Akrobatik and Pawz One against all challengers. Next to Guilty Simpson and Akrobatik, other guest appearances by Napoleon Da Legend and Space Honey.

"Watch & Learn" provides a blend of vivid storytelling and melodic beats giving audiences of Hip-Hop something to add to of their collections.

System Music welcome Italian giants Numa Crew to the label with their brand new release "Bun Dem Down".

The release centers around the massive grime / dubstep crossover title-track "Bun Dem Down" featuring the two London’s MCs, Killa P and Long Range. It has caused a storm in the forums over who made this track and inflamed dancefloors across the globe over the past few years. The main vocals is classic Killa P, perfect delivery and tone alongside conscious lyrics we can all relate to. Long Range solidifies this massive track with ease and skill, hurtling over a classic half-step beat which is beautifully produced by Numa Crew.

The B-side “Masai Duty” takes a whole different trajectory and exemplifies Numa Crew’s amazing ability to diversify production. Scattered tribal vocals flows over a rolling dancehall-like beat guaranteed to make the whole crowd move.

    STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Incendiary dancehall-grime-dubstep hybrid that set to smash down walls and genre boundaries and will certainly ignite an inferno at your next sound clash.

Cosmoba is a brand new Manchester based imprint from Kalcagni. Fresh from releasing his "Manners" EP on Distrito 91, Kalcagni dishes up 4 slices of funk-fueled electro for this label debut.

Lead track "Lost In The System" features retro stylings and gritty electro bass hooks. This is swiftly followed up by "Multislacking", the result of a weekend spent twisting up a modular rig, with wonky bass squelches and 80s pads underpinned by slamming beats.

On the flip side, "Culture Vulture" introduces some heavy 303 workouts, before "After The Fact" rounds off the EP nicely, taking the acid vibe in a slightly darker direction with wonky Reese synth fills and jacked up breaks.

There's a rich sense of cybernetic atmosphere throughout, with just the right amount of squelch and snap present in Kalcagni's synths and drum machines. The EP is mixed and mastered cohesively; with a dull layer of sonic oxidation giving it a rough but penetrating edge.

RIYL: Ceephax, Roy Of The Ravers, Analord-era AFX, Luke Vibert etc.

    STAFF COMMENTS

      Raw Poetic

      Space Beyond The Solar System

Although Space Beyond The Solar System could be considered a concept album by its outcome, its inception started from a string of experiments between Moore and frequent collaborator/producer Damu the Fudgemunk. These initial sessions had no specific direction but became the catalyst for what would become a prolific wave of Raw Poetic projects; five of which have been released since 2020.

It was these initial sessions and the demos they produced that convinced Shepp—who is also Raw Poetic’s uncle—to record what would eventually become 2020’s Ocean Bridges, a collaborative album from Raw, Damu, and Shepp, praised by The FADER as “modern masterpiece at the intersection of rap and jazz.” The trio’s collaboration continues on Space Beyond The Solar System, which boasts three tracks featuring the jazz legend, including today’s “A Mile In My Head,” a sprawling and thought-provoking album stand-out.

At two hours, absorbing Space Beyond in its entirety may be overwhelming for most, especially in the present day, but Raw and Damu are very aware of this. With a total of over 40-plus years of experience between the vocalist and producer, the two of them went down memory lane taking every influence and experience in their personal histories to extract ingredients for a groundbreaking statement. Space Beyond The Solar System is their most comprehensive environment to date.

The creation of Space Beyond sparked a conversation between Raw and Damu about their creative chemistry, with Raw likening their direction to a “space beyond the solar system.” His comment was a eureka moment for the two artists, giving their wandering efforts a sense of definition that was needed. “I think we’ve been exploring music beyond our limits for a few years,” says Raw Poetic. “It’s hard to tell where we’ll land, but we are constantly pushing our way out of the norm. Hence the title, ‘Space Beyond the Solar System.’ It’s just to say, this is new territory for us. Where the sky was once the limit, now it’s just the start.”

        Revelators Sound System

        Revelators

Revelators Sound System is the collaborative musical project of MC Taylor (Hiss Golden Messenger) and Cameron Ralston. Recorded throughout 2020 and 2021, largely at Taylor’s home in Durham, NC and Richmond, Virginia's Spacebomb studio, where Ralston serves as the house bassist, the album is a deep meditation on community that caroms from root-down avant-funk and spiritual groove to solitary cosmic minimalism and twinkling dubby ambience. Importantly, ‘Revelators’ is a deeply emotional record, the running soundtrack to a world in confusion.

‘Grieving’, with its trunk-rattling double drums and searing electric Clavinet, imagines a rhythmic meeting of The Meters, post-‘Bitches Brew’ Miles and Can, before dissolving into a smoky, time-smeared coda that is a direct descendent of Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry’s headiest Black Ark productions, while ‘Collected Water’ is a mournful, pointillistic improvisation between Taylor’s drifting guitar loops, Ralston’s loping double bass, and the melodic dancing between Daniel Clarke’s chiming piano figures, J.C. Kuhl’s insistent saxophone and Reggie Pace’s subtle, circular percussion.

‘Bury the Bell’ is a shimmering, Alice Coltrane-inspired piece for guitar, clarinet and orchestra that spins off into stardust. The album concludes with ‘George the Revelator’, a lush devotional epic built atop the on-the-one drumming of J.T. Bates that shakes and rolls with psychic, psychedelic fervour.

‘Revelators’ is a testament to the telepathic and soulful musical interplay between Taylor and Ralston. “We only ever talked about what emotion we were going for,” Ralston recalls. “We never talked about gear or fidelity.”

Taylor echoes this sentiment, elaborating, “This record is about grief. Grief, and whatever comes after. We were looking for a way to communicate that musically.”

          System Exclusive

“Often when music is constructed with synths and other electronically generated sound makers, their level of exactitude and control is such that the vocalist will either wittingly or otherwise seek to emulate the relative artifice of the soundscape. This is often done to great effect, think Kraftwerk. But what if there was a unit whose music was synth-generated but the vocals were coming from a hot-blooded, singing-for-the-cheap-seats approach? If done well, it’s a case of two great tastes that taste great together, which brings me to System Exclusive.

Their multi genre/time period collision is like a car accident where all parties walk away not only unscathed but sure they had a great time, like two different recording sessions sharing the same space and making it work. Vocalist Ari Blaisdell (previously of Lower Self, The Beat Offs) co-exists excellently amidst the driving beats and synth waves and her guitar further helps to jailbreak the tunes from the often sterile entrapments that synths provide. Matt Jones (previously of Male Gaze, Blasted Canyons, and continuing Castle Face behind-the-scenesman)’s smart use of live drums bring great juxtaposition against the machines. Ari’s irony-free sincere delivery is the perfect closer on this very cool record, recorded ably by Enrique Tena Padilla (Osees, Wand, Beach House) in their backyard studio mid-pandemic and adorned with original artwork by Miles Wintner (L.A. Takedown, Mr. Elevator, Devon Williams). If you don’t get this slab of goodness, well, that act of non-compliance will confirm you as the pain-in-the-ass that many have described you to be in great detail during Zoom chats. How dare they! Prove them wrong! Reduce their snark to mere pseudo-intellectual piffle! Your lifeline arrives in March. Grab it.” - Henry Rollins.

            Callum Easter

            System

Callum Easter has always been a force of nature. The singer and multi-instrumentalist thrives on impulse and spontaneity, balancing that with an impeccable song writing craftsmanship that makes even the more outré moments of his current batch of mutated soul punk/rock ‘n’ roll instantly arresting. New album System was recorded largely alone in his Edinburgh studio, but it bustles with a brash, maximalist vigour, that draws a line under his previous work and charges exhilaratingly forwards - beginning a journey that he describes as a “descent into ordinary madness.”

Easter's love of rock ‘n’ roll has long been baked in – but there’s a new fervour to where he’s taken this source. Now there is an outward fire; a raging – albeit with the sort of wryly humorous delivery only Easter can provide - against the general noise of everyday living and a longing for something else, something more, something that looks you straight in the eye.

System is careful to balance protest with positivity; it’s accentuated on the album’s stirring opener and first single ‘What You Think?’ Which sees Easter urge the listener via his steely growl that “there’s no point crying, what’s the use? No more hiding, what’s the use?” to focus on living and the positive changes we can make as individuals and collectively.

The classic debut LP by Dub Narcotic Sound System, originally released on K Records and unavailable on vinyl for 25 years. The oddball indie-funk collective Dub Narcotic Sound System was spearheaded by vocalist Calvin Johnson, the former frontman of the legendary Beat Happening as well as the founder of the famed K Records label. Named in honor of Johnson's own Olympia, WA-based basement studio Dub Narcotic, the project was begun in 1994 with a rapid-fire series of funk-, rap-, and reggae-influenced singles including "Bite," "Fuck Shit Up," "Booty Run," and "Shake-a-Puddin'"; from the outset Johnson was the group's sole constant member, although over the course of subsequent releases, including the EPs Industrial Breakdown, Ridin' Shotgun, and Ship to Shore, the revolving lineup grew to include Olympia scenesters like Lois Maffeo as well as Larry Butler, Todd Ranslow, and Brian Weber, all three members of the hip-hop unit Dead Presidents. The first Dub Narcotic Sound System full-length, Rhythm Record, Vol. One: Echoes From the Scene Control Room, appeared in 1995; later efforts included 1996's Boot Party and 1998's Out of Your Mind. Sideways Soul, a collaboration with Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, followed in 1999. Trouser Press wrote that "when not delving deep into the usual sorts of ambient studio trickery, the songs hit a ’60s R&B stride, bathing in the stoned soul picnic ambience with uplifting spirit.”

"Naive overlooked New Beat / New Age project from 1989"

Sometimes in life, a certain incentive is needed to convert talent into productivity. As for the case of MKS, the enigmatic and musical disguise of Nicolas Aubard, it was a merely coincidental encounter at the end of the 80s that set the stone rolling. For Nico, it all began in his hometown of Saint-Quentin in Northern France. At a young age, he got obsessed with Japanese and American cartoon culture. Being a devoted collector of cartoon-related toys and widgets, he spent hours watching anime series on TV and creating scale models of science fiction and horror-related sceneries. Growing up in a musical household, young Nico took on stringent training in classical and jazz piano. But, frustrated with the fact of not being the technical virtuoso he wanted to be, he turned away from his training at the age of 16. “I had no choice, as I felt as if my creativity got limited by my piano. That’s when I got drawn into the world of synthesizers.” Not long after, Nico put together a home studio and started to experiment with ambience and sound-inserts. Despite years of experimentation and music making, all Nico’s productions stayed between the 4 walls of his modest home studio. Something that would change in 1988, when Nico bumped into Emmanuel “Manu” Prevost.

“We met on a night out in Lille”, Nico recalls. “I usually just stood by the dj booth, as I wasn’t a good dancer. So instead of throwing shapes at the dancefloor, I started a conversation with the dj, who happened to be Manu. By the end of the night, I handed him a demo tape of the album I was wanting to do.” Propelled by good fate, a fruitful collab happened between Nico and this dj. For Manu, everything also fell in place: “At the time, I was looking for a composer to work on producing a new beat record. As a dj, I often crossed the Belgian border for gigs and this new style was in full explosion over there. I heard Nico’s songs and naively told him: “Let’s make an album”, without knowing how.” Despite the high hopes for the new alliance, the project turned out to be a shot in the dark. “I assumed Manu already had some experience, as he proposed to do the mastering himself. But funnily he only told me after the release of the record that it was his first time too. But you know, we managed.” Not willing to release under his own name, Nico came up with Musical Keyboard System, abbreviated as MKS. The alias was born and the journey ready to take off.

The album finally released in September 1989. After the release, Nico went on a low-key promo tour together with Manu in Northern France. “We aired a video clip on FR3 for two songs, together with a short interview. In their studio, we created a scrimpy décor with some green plants to resemble the Vietnam jungle (as for the track Nam Revelation) and we shot the clip. Manu even lay down behind a screen operating the fog machine.” As a live act, MKS’ career was rather short-lived, with a first and final gig in the Theatre of Saint-Quentin a few months after the release. “In France, we would remain illustrious strangers. Yet in the meantime, our music got played on new age radios in the USA.” After the end of MKS, Nico moved to Paris and Manu took on his military duty. In the army, Manu met movie animator Jacques Rouxel (the man behind French cult series Les Shadoks) and got him in touch with Nico. The duo collaborated with Rouxel on some compositions, before they went their separate ways at last. Nico went on to pursue his childhood dream, as a pioneer in France for integrating 3D animations into classical cartoons. Manu in turn became a producer for feature films.

                Field Of Dreams

A Unique Double CD celebrating System 7’s relationship with Japan.

In 2018 System 7’s strong connection with Japan moved to yet another level with the release of a special System 7 branded saké from the esteemed Aramasa brewery of Akita, Japan.

The concept of the saké brewery’s president, and System 7 fan, Yusuke Sato was to release the saké together with an included double CD, featuring new track that employs sounds and samples from the Akita region in the distinctive System 7 dance music style. This track is Field of Dreams.

Field of Dreams is the first track of CD1, which follows on with a compilation of System 7 tracks personally selected by Yusuke Sato, and expertly DJ mixed by System 7’s Steve Hillage.

CD2 features a selection of remixes of Field Of Dreams by well-known Japanese dance music artists who are friends of System 7.
The saké itself, which was produced in a limited edition of 3000 bottles, has all been sold – but the music of this release lives on in this release by A-Wave Records, in double CD form. The release will be accompanied by a video for Field of Dreams featuring beautiful and haunting images from Akita. Aramasa brewery has also collaborated with famed techno artist Richie Hawtin for his own Enter Saké project.

                  Fela Kuti

                  Underground System

By the time of these recordings Fela Kuti was HIV positive, drug addicted and had been brutalised by continual imprisonments and beatings at the hands of the Nigerian authorities. Over a fifteen year period he had sung about injustice, persecution, the downtrodden and the poor. He championed everyman's right to a decent life, decent education and freedom from intolerance. He had his all too obvious faults but his music remains a testimony to a performer justifiably known as the 'King of Afro-beat'. The last album of newly recorded material to be released during Fela’s lifetime, 1992’s ‘Underground System’ is an outstanding swansong. While Fela’s recorded output slowed up as the 1980s progressed - largely as a result of ongoing arrests, beatings and jailings - his final years of recording produced some of his strongest work, notably ‘Teacher Don’t Teach Me Nonsense’ (1986), ‘Beasts Of No Nation’ (1989), ‘Overtake Don Overtake Overtake’ (1990) and ‘Underground System’.

                    Tennis System

                    Lovesick

Produced by Jack Shirley, whose CV includes his excellent work with Deafheaven, the album is awash with distorted guitars, distant vocals and despairingly beautiful melodies. “ The Line Of Best Fit.

“Lovesick blends the organized chaos of post-punk with subterranean indie vocals and choruses, and, with such an effective melange of pulses, rhythms, guitars, and vocals, they remain oddly reminiscent of Weekend’s Jinx, Joy Division’s Unknown Pleasures, and Interpol’s Turn On the Bright Lights.” New Noise.

“In 2019 the LA trio slot perfectly into an environment where everyone from Nothing to MØL have done their shoegaze homework. Anyway, closer inspection reveals that Lovesick isn’t just about nu-gaze moves, with emo-slacker sentiment and punkily propulsive drums both helping to corral the woozy sounds into genuinely memorable tunes. “ KKKK Kerrang!

With five years passing since Tennis System‘s previous full-length, ‘Technicolor Blind’, numerous set backs have occurred, and though vocalist/guitarist Matty Taylor has been battling to realise his vision, eventually ‘Lovesick’ has come to light.

Settled as a trio, completed by bassist Sam Glassberg and drummer Garren Orr, the frustrations and determination of the group has been captured on tape for the group’s third release.

Aiming for grandeur from the start, ‘Shelf Life’ delivers a thick wall of sound with jarring breaks and dominating drum beats. Playing the quiet and loud dynamic that fuels the group’s shoe gaze style, the track is a towering display of swirling melodies and pummelling distortion. Whilst it may not ease itself into the record at first, it displays a charm that works its way in.

Becoming more accessible with ‘Cut’, the group work with punk influences as snarling vocals and layers of fuzz battle against breakneck drumming. Relying on simple hooks, the song gives itself room to allow Glassberg‘s slinking bass lines to ebb and flow around the track.

Working with the Sonic Youth blueprint, the record is steeped in thick bursts of discord and glimmering melody. This isn’t to say that the tracks don’t hold their own, as ‘Third Time’ displays a powerful stomp and groove underneath Taylor‘s snappy delivery.

L.A based Tennis System began as a four-piece band in the Washington, D.C. area around 2008. The group was originally made up of guitarist/songwriter Matty Taylor, bassist Clinton Cole, second guitarist Brad Fullilove, and drummer Misha Bullock. The group opened for touring bands such as Ty Segal and Pains of Being Pure at Heart and recorded 2010's The Future of Our History before Fullilove and Cole moved on later that year.

They played around Los Angeles and continued working on new material, reaching a new level in 2018 when they began working with Graveface Records, the label run by Black Moth Super Rainbow's Ryan Graveface. The label released Tennis System's 2018 EP P A I N and the next year followed up with Lovesick, the third and heaviest album from the band yet.

                      System W/ Nils Frahm

                      Plus

New recordings by Danish electronic trio System (aka Future 3) in collaboration with Berlin based composer Nils Frahm. His purpose-built improvisations on synth, organ and piano served as source material for the members of System (Thomas Knak, Anders Remmer & Jesper Skaaning), who merged his warm acoustic tones with their minimalist digitalism and set out to translate their distinctive clicks 'n' cuts electronics into vivid soundscapes. The blending of piano and digital tones and noises into emotive pieces might instantly recall the work of Alva Noto and Ryuichi Sakamoto, though System and Frahm come to quite different results.

Head Over Heels (Talamanca System Remix)

THIS IS A RECORD STORE DAY 2018 EXCLUSIVE, LIMITED TO ONE PER PERSON.

As per the previous PR for the Talamanca System Tribal Persuasion mix, part of the true spirit of Balearic/Ibiza has always been slightly left field pop - Prefab Sprout, It’s Immaterial, Talk Talk and of course TFF, so TFF are always held in high regard by the Balearic brigade and this song (Head over Heels) in particular. Whilst a slightly daunting prospect to remix, across the 4 remixes (two by Talamanca and two by Mark Barrott) the aim was to capture the original spirit of Ibiza across it’s different moods, from the dance floor to Sunset via the early poly-rhythms of Underworld, the dramatic majesty of Padilla’s Cafe Del Mar and the dubbed out vibe’s of Larry Heard inspired slo mo house.Whilst these are to be enjoyed by all, in many ways their natural home is on vinyl, as they capture that original spirit and re-frame it in a modern context, taking the atmosphere of the original track and intertwining it with all the aforementioned elements of Ibiza’s musical heritage. Packaging will be black in colour.

Noise Reduction System: Formative European Electronica 1974-1984

A year in the making, Noise Reduction System reaches out into the European mainland, taking in tracks from key figures on the electronica cassette label underground alongside early releases by ground-breaking innovators. Enthralled by the mysterious synthesiser and inspired by the DIY ethos of punk, a quiet revolution took place across Europe in the late 1970s and early 1980s. From Norway to Greece, the microchip and the affordable synthesiser inspired artists for whom guitars, drums and bass had become old hat, and in home studios and art spaces across the continent electronic musicians began to stretch the boundaries of sonic experimentation. Some wanted to dance, some to relax and others to confuse and confront – all are represented here. Noise Reduction System explores every corner of this chapter in our musical history via over four hours of futurist, modern and sometimes challenging music. And who better to tell this story than the artists themselves - Noise Reduction System features sleevenotes from artists and their biographers, unseen photographs and an introductory essay by Sounds and Wild Planet legend Dave Henderson. Expect great coverage across all media - ‘Close To The Noise Floor’ ranked Top Five in several magazine’s 2016 polls.

The sequel to last year’s critically acclaimed, strong selling ‘Close To The Noise Floor’. Journey into the origins of electronica in Europe – from early techno and electro to synth-pop, industrial, ambient and noise experiments. Includes artists from Germany, France, Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Portugal, Russia, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Romania, Slovenia, Latvia, Yugoslavia and Greece. 62 tracks across 4CDs in a 52pp hard-back book format. Over 9,000 words of artists’ sleevenotes and introductory essay by Dave Henderson (Sounds/Wild Planet/MOJO). From figureheads (Cluster, DAF, Yello, Klaus Schulze, Vangelis, Front 242) to underground outsiders. •Part primitive rave, part synthesiser porn, part history lesson!

On the white island, between Ibiza Town and the infamous fish shack high up on a rock next to a bird sanctuary, you will find the beach of Talamanca. Plagued by too much seaweed, anchored middle-class yachts and joggers, it is also surprisingly the spiritual home of a correspondent post-Balearic group. As luck would have it, a remix request by Mark Barrott bedded the International Feel boss in a trio with Philipp Lauer and Gerd Janson, alias Tuff City Kids.

A highly sought-after 12-inch later (“Balanzat”), as well as fantasies of getting together to work on more material, led to a fruitful and effortless studio session on the non-Balearic outskirts of Frankfurt am Main. The outcome of that meeting forms the homonymous debut album of Talamanca System. A documented vision, or a sunburned imagination of a day and night spent on said island, during a moment in time that probably never was or will be. Still summed up best by dungarees, long hair, yellow sunglasses, espadrilles or that famous picture of people grouped around roofless Amnesia's pyramid well, it is the food of the Balearic gods. But, dear nostalgia, stop right here!

Even though Talamanca's debut flies the Balearic flag, it is not about turning back the clock, but rather about a past that could be the future. Dusted, danceable, driving, dreamy and dapper at the same time, this is an album for the club, the car, the beach, the (coke)float and the fountain. Coined by the colourful and respective talents of the three individuals behind Talamanca, you will hear nine tracks ranging from up to downtempo, piano house smashers that would have deserved the prefix Italo-, percussion rituals captured by a group of Zoo animals on the loose, soundtracks for dusk and dawn, hushed vocals, rites of ambient passages, powerful synth ballads and vamp choirs. If this album were a car, it would be a Citroen 2CV remade by Tesla.

                              STAFF COMMENTS

Barry says: Balearic rhythms meet headfirst with sweaty dancefloor neon numbers, beautifully effervescent but inexplicably laid-back, close your eyes and get lost in the vibes.

                              Smash The System

“Smash The System” is the first non-concept solo album by Luke Haines (The Auteurs, Baader Meinhof and Black Box Recorder) in six years.

Smash The System follows on from such critically acclaimed works as “Nine and a half psychedelic meditations on British wrestling from the late 1970s and early '80s” (2010), “New York In The '70s” (2014) and last year’s electronic “British Nuclear Bunkers”.

Think “Hunky 'Dory” or Sabbath's eponymous debut played on pixiephones and Moog, Graham Bond Organisation and Haines' own 1996 classic “Baader Meinhof”, Or Sunn 0))) at the school disco with tunes.

“Smash The System” pays homage to Marc Bolan, Vince Taylor, The Incredible String Band and Morris Dancing to name just a few as Haines makes a melodious return to his rock ‘n’ roll roots… 'Do you like the Monkees?'

Finally, a new deep cut from Melbourne’s visceral post-punk band Total Control. Typical System, their second LP, was written, recorded, created over the past two years and is set for US/Worldwide release via Iron Lung Records
                                .
Total Control emerged from Australia’s dynamic punk scene in ’08, releasing a succession of 7”s that developed from an aggressive post-punk band sound to studio forays into electronic forms from minimal wave to house. Their debut LP, Henge Beat, was commended as one of the few records released in 2011 that evaded the ease of classification and competent tribute act status of most modern bands.

Subsequently, they have released three very different records: a split 12” with Thee Oh Sees, a 7” single on Sub Pop and a house remix 12”. Typical System develops on the incongruent demands of their debut LP and ensuing releases, a further development on their continually evolving sound.

                                  System 7

PositiveNoise - Inc. Carl Craig Remix

"PositiveNoise" is collaboration between System 7 and British house music legend A Guy Called Gerald who now lives in Berlin, and is one of two tracks on the new System 7 "UP" album that they worked on together. The original club mix’s exuberant sounds and crisp beats exude an infectious feel-good quality and a bright techno confidence inspired by Berlin’s leaner sounds - already gaining plaudits and plays for its modern club feel. The Carl Craig remix strips down the original, and twists and turns for the dancefloor with dubby deep techno in Carl’s own legendary style. A.Mochi’s remix is a darker interpretation, with a long dropdown featuring shimmering S7 trademark sounds and a breakbeat build-up.
