Five years after her acclaimed debut album Sleepyhead (Pitchfork, nominated for the Swedish Grammys etc) the Swedish pop artist Sibille Attar is back with new music, now signed to Stockholm indie label PNKSLM Recordings (ShitKid, HOLY, Sudakistan etc). A prominent artist on the Swedish indie scene for the past 15 years, Sibille Attar's solo debut, released via Universal imprint Stranded Rekords, was one of 2013's biggest Swedish albums and Paloma's Hand carries on the torch, showcasing a slightly darker and more ominous take on her brand of psychedelic pop, with the songwriting and melodies intact.

        It Takes Two

As hip-hop moved into the mainstream in 1988, Harlem duo Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock changed the game with "It Takes Two", one of the undisputed classic singles of the genre. The group's debut album, It Takes Two, which featured the title track as well as the dance hits "Joy and Pain" and "Get On The Dance Floor" has been newly remastered in high definition from the original tapes and pressed on red opaque vinyl--its first appearance on the format since its original release thirty years ago.

          The Beginning Of The End

          Fishman

Strut presents an exclusive release for Record Store Day, an 11-minute previously unreleased version of folk-soul gem Fishman from 1972 by legendary Caribbean funk band The Beginning Of The End.
Unearthed recently from the band’s tape archives, Fishman paints a warm picture of life in Nassau. As The Beginning Of The End’s bandleader Ray Munnings remembers, “There was this guy that would walk through the streets early morning – you’d hear him calling ‘Fishmaaan, Fishmaaan!’ He had the catch, fresh from the boats so you could buy grouper, goggle eye and snapper there on your doorstep. The song is a nice way of remembering that slice of island culture from the early ‘70s.”
This newly unearthed version builds from the 45 version, with the band solo-ing and jamming freely: “it’s great to hear this version after 55 years,” Munnings continues, “we would always stretch out in the studio. We were a tight unit with my two brothers and I at its heart. We just naturally played long during our sessions and it’s great to hear the end part here too – we just started talking together, laughing about cooking up some conk stew!” This new release features the rediscovered full length version and the 45 version, originally released as a B-side to Doin’ The Funky Do. It also includes the in-demand full length edit of the band’s rare groove classic, Funky Nassau built from the Part 1 and Part 2 versions. Fishman is released on Strut on Record Store Day (21st April 2018) featuring a strong new cover design by Bethany Porteous. All tracks are remastered from the original reel to reel tapes by Peter Beckmann at Technology Works.

                The Jimmy Castor Bunch

                It's Just Begun

THIS IS A RECORD STORE DAY 2018 EXCLUSIVE, LIMITED TO ONE PER PERSON.

The Jimmy Castor Bunch was an extraordinary 1970s American Soul-Funk outfit led by multi-instrumentalist James Walter Castor. The group reached the peak of their success in 1972 with the release of the ‘IT’S JUST BEGUN’ album. ‘It’s Just Begun’ became a DJ favorite and has been heavily covered, used in films and sampled extensively by various major players in the hip-hop & dance scene. Notable acts using samples from the album include Pharrell, Grandmaster Flash, Jamiroquai, Eric B. & Rakim, De La Soul, Jungle Brothers, Ice-T, 2 Live Crew, Mos Def, Bloodhound Gang, The Prodigy, The Rock Steady Crew and even James Brown!  ‘It’s Just Begun’ also contains the track ‘Troglodyte (Cave Man)’ which became a big hit in the US, peaking at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100. The track stayed in the charts for 14 weeks and was a million seller that went on to receive a gold disc award.  All of the above is no coincidence, we’re talking about an exceptional album here, its success comes from an effective and distinctive mix of funk, pop hooks, social commentary and gonzo comedy. The group knocks out a relentless stream of thick funky grooves and tackles everything from morality to philosophy. ‘It's Just Begun’ is littered with heavy vamping funk grooves, powered by growling fuzz baselines, Hendrix-inspired guitar work and Castor's trademark use of Afro-Latin rhythms. ‘It’s Just Begun’ is an important and influential release and well worth a listen for anyone interested in the roots of 1970s funk. After being plagued by unauthorized reissues over the last two decades, we are proud to announce the official reissue of this rare & out of print record. Available as a limited color vinyl edition (2000 copies) featuring the original Corrigan artwork & liner notes from Al Roberts. Released exclusively for Record Store Day 2018, available in participating record stores on 4/21.

This LP includes the classic "Fug" and single / album opener "Anthracite" - a title only a UK outfit would ever call a track!

                            Bob Dylan

                            Masters Of War

THIS IS A RECORD STORE DAY 2018 EXCLUSIVE, LIMITED TO ONE PER PERSON.

                              Electric Wizard

                              Wizard Bloody Wizard

White with red splatter, 140 g vinyl, hard board gatefold sleeve, with poster, only the 2nd colour to be pressed on this new album. Active since 1993, Dorset’s Electric Wizard have ploughed the doom furrow to such downcast extremes they’ve basically driven full circle into a near-camp carnival of bong-gurgling nihilistic delight.

Conceived in antithesis to the tediously technically proficient metal that’s abundant these days, EW’s ninth album takes joy-doom to another level. Their riffs match the fuzziness of their weed-fogged minds. Their tempos remain slower than a regional bus service. Their lyrics focus solely on death, drugs, shagging and violence

Discussing ‘Sky Full Of Song’ for the first time today, Florence writes: “this was a song that just fell out of the sky fully formed. Sometimes when you are performing you get so high, it’s hard to know how to come down. There is this feeling of being cracked open, rushing endlessly outwards and upwards, and wanting somebody to hold you still, bring you back to yourself. It’s an incredible, celestial, but somehow lonely feeling.”

The Record Store Day release of ‘Sky Full Of Song’ will be backed by a recording of ‘New York poem (for Polly)’, taken from ‘Useless Magic’: a collection of lyrics, artwork and poetry which will form Florence’s first book, and offers a unique, personal insight into her creative process. ‘Useless Magic’ will be released on July 5th via Fig Tree / Penguin.

                                    Josephine Foster

                                    A Wolf In Sheep's Clothing

THIS IS A RECORD STORE DAY 2018 EXCLUSIVE, LIMITED TO ONE PER PERSON.

‘A Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing’ (2006) is an unusual album, first because it does things with classical music that aren’t usually done. The songs Josephine Foster sings here are classical pieces, written (the texts are German poems) by some of the greatest German composers of the 19th century, Franz Schubert, Robert Schumann, Johannes Brahms, and Hugo Wolf. “Foster has found perhaps the most appropriate vehicle yet for her singular and affecting talents – 19th century German art-songs, wholly reconstructed here via Foster’s skeletal arrangements of voice and guitar” Pitchfork. Remastered and repackaged with new artwork. 1000 copies.

THIS IS A RECORD STORE DAY 2018 EXCLUSIVE, LIMITED TO ONE PER PERSON.

Originally reached no.13 in the UK charts in 1996 - taken from the top 30 album DEAD CITIES loosely based on "Rachael's song" from BLADERUNNER by vangelis now 22 years later the group have recreated the track in 8 new compositions seamlessly flowing together the journey travels from ambient rock to a land of electronica.

                                        Gloria Gaynor

I Will Survive (12” Disco Version) / Substitute (12” Disco Version)

Celebrating its 45th birthday, Universal slip this eternal empowerment hit into a shiny silver number and send it forth into the world, free to spread its mirrorball magic wherever it goes. Sure, you might hear it at every wedding, anniversary, retirement party, bar mitzvah and wake, but "I Will Survive" is fucking brilliant!

                                          Girls Names

                                          Primitive Desire

Primitive Desire is an 11-track collection of the first ever studio sessions by Girls Names, recorded in 2009 in Belfast. It compiles their debut EP originally released on Captured Tracks, the eight songs that originally featured on the long-out-of print You Should Know By Now mini-EP released on Tough Love, and a hereto-unreleased bonus track. Primitive Desire is exactly as labeled and provides fans with a document of the band's early years as a two-piece, fuelled by a distinct nervous energy and nascent dark edge that would manifest itself much more obviously on subsequent albums.

                                              J Dilla

Rough Draft The Dilla Mix - RSD18 Edition

THIS IS A RECORD STORE DAY 2018 EXCLUSIVE, LIMITED TO ONE PER PERSON.

The producer’s own mixes – recently rediscovered - of his seminal EP, expanded with bonus tracks into a 2LP set, with extensive liner notes and unpublished photos. When Ruff Draft saw its initial release in 2003, J Dilla possessed production skills on par with anyone in hip-hop – technically and creatively. “At the top of his game,” says longtime friend and collaborator, Karriem Riggins. After years of building while modestly deferring to others of both greater and lesser notoriety, Dilla finally completed the first solo endeavor on his own label, entirely on his own terms. The significance of such an autonomous success often gets overlooked, and partly accounts for why Ruff Draft is one of the lesser-referenced entries in Dilla’s oeuvre. “It’s a mysterious little project,” says his mother, Maureen Yancey. “But out of his entire career, that was the happiest time.” Prior to recording the EP, Dilla found himself at a crossroads. Estranged from his label, MCA, and separated from the mother of his youngest daughter, frustration abounded both personally and professionally. Dilla spent parts of 2002 and 2003 working on an album for MCA that featured his rapping over contributions from other producers with whom he had connected and whose music he respected. At the time, he was known primarily for his beats, yet reviled for his MCing by most anyone not from his hometown of Detroit. The project was to be an intentional freak of the industry. The project would go on to spur his collaborative album with Madlib, Jaylib, and would first showcase the template that he would take to his greatest heights with 2006’s Donuts. The Stones Throw reissue of Ruff Draft from 2008 featured remixes of the songs from the album, done without Dilla’s involvement. This version of the album takes Dilla’s recently discovered mixes of the album and restores his vision for the project. “Straight from the mothafuckin’ cassette,” as he phrased the sound he was going for on the EP’s intro. It is buttressed by unreleased tracks and is presented in two versions: LP one is the EP as it was originally released; LP 2 is the alternate version that Dilla had for the project. Author Ronnie Reese expands upon his original liner notes to further tell Dilla’s story, in a booklet complete with never before published photographs from the Ruff Draft photo session.

                                                  A Rare Conundrum (RSD18 EDITION)

Though recorded in England, Bert’s time in America recording the preceding ‘L.A. Turnaround’ and ‘Santa Barbara Honeymoon’ is still much in evidence. The breezy, bluesy style carries effortless across standout tracks ‘Looking For a Home’ and ‘3AM’, alongside the more familiar UK folk territory of ‘The Curragh of Kildare’ and ‘Pretty Saro’. Recorded at London’s now-legendary Air Studios, the production - steered Jansch and new collaborator Rod Clements - has a wonderful lightness of touch. Includes 3 additional non-album tracks as a download. Limited edition gold vinyl. 1000 copies worldwide.

The Shins, the acclaimed pop project of songwriter James Mercer, have won the hearts of many, building strongly from the early releases on indie luminaries Sub Pop Records to the recent, deeply intimidate album, Heartworms. They did the unexpected when they re-recorded every song on the album in a completely different style and reversed the running order for The Worm’s Heart, released last month.

“The top-line melody remains intact, but everything else - the instrumentation, tempo - is altered.” - The Guardian

This split 12” titled Los Lobos vs. The Shins features three distinct versions of their song, The Fear; the original booming, sweeping track from Heartworms; the second kinetic “flipped” version from The Worm’s Heart; and the final rendition, heavy on the heartstrings, from buddy-band Los Lobos, which took vital form while the two groups played out together. In Mercer’s words, Los Lobos “just destroyed our version."

Q’65 was formed in The Hague in 1965 and is often considered one of the more prominent bands associated with the Nederbeat sound that took place in the 60s. To promote one of their singles the band travelled to London. Unfortunately they were denied a work permit and returned (according to their bio but highly-doubted) to The Netherlands in a rubber lifeboat, taking 12 hours to cross the Channel! This collectable four track 7” is newly remastered for MONO playback and is available for Record Store Day in a limited run of 750 copies on yellow vinyl.

We are proud to announce the new single by Grizzly Bear & Department of Eagles member Daniel Rossen, to be released on 12” exclusively for Record Store Day 2018. It is the first official solo release by Rossen since 2012’s widely-acclaimed EP Silent Hour / Golden Mile (Warp Records). Those who have been lucky enough to attend one of Daniel’s rare but ever-spellbinding solo live performances of the last couple years may recognize the title track “Deerslayer”. As Rossen explains: “”Deerslayer” started as an imaginary dialogue with the hunters I constantly heard roaming around outside my place in upstate, NY. They were always heard but never seen, and a constant reminder that I didn’t really belong there. Stylistically this song doesn’t really fit with the rest of the material I am working with now, but it still feels true to the experience I had. So I’d like it to exist in the world, and record store day seems like a great opportunity to give it a special physical release.” The song is backed with a cover originally by Golden Suits. “”You’re Crossing A River” is a song by my old Dept. of Eagles bandmate, Fred Nicolaus, which he released as Golden Suits. I loved the lyric and Fred asked me to try a cover of it back when his last record came out. I tried to treat the song like I might have treated one of his tunes back in our Dept. of Eagles days, adding instrumental passages to mirror what’s going on in the lyric. If we were still making records together I would want to include this song.” Deerslayer will be released with original artwork by J. Penry on Record Store Day, Saturday April 21 on Warp Records.

                                                                                Enter The Dragon OST

Picture Disc of the 1973 martial arts action film "Enter the Dragon" soundtrack. This was Bruce Lee's final film appearance before his death on 20 July 1973 at age 32. The film was first released on 26 July 1973 in Hong Kong, six days after Lee's death. Often considered one of the greatest martial arts films of all time, in 2004 the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". While there was never much question that Jay Farrar was the guiding light behind Son Volt, he's managed to extinguish any lingering doubts about that issue with Okemah and the Melody of Riot, his first album under the Son Volt handle since 1998's Wide Swing Tremolo. While Okemah sure sounds and feels like a Son Volt album, as it happens Farrar is the only musician in the band's new lineup who had ever played with Son Volt before, which for good or ill firmly establishes him as the sole architect of the group's musical approach. While it's anyone's guess why Farrar turned from his solo career back to the Son Volt format (especially since it's obvious Farrar is the man in charge under either circumstance), whatever the billing the results are impressive -- Okemah and the Melody of Riot is a compelling, strongly focused work that stands as Farrar's best music since Son Volt's debut album, 1994's Trace.

In life and music, Emma Tricca is an explorer. Just as ‪Davey Graham set sail for Morocco and ‪Vashti Bunyan for the Outer Hebrides in search of their elusive ‪muse, Rome-raised singer-songwriter Tricca has journeyed to London, New York, Texas and further afield to seek the heart of her own music. And like those renowned voyagers, she's returned with a set of songs that refresh the tired old folk form. Tricca's new album St Peter – created with a cast of supporting artists including global icon ‪Judy Collins, ‪Sonic Youth's ‪Steve Shelley and Dream Syndicate guitarist Jason Victor – takes a bracing plunge into the unknown, leaving the folksinger tag far behind with a rolling collection of reverie-inducing raw diamonds.

The collection of 56 songs went far beyond a simple career retrospective. It dipped back as far as 1984 with the bulk of it’s songs hailing from the mid-nineties onward. Over 2/3 of the material had never been heard when originally released in 2006 and had 30 newly recorded songs. Orphans also featured a number of songs finding a home on a Waits’ album for the first time. They included Waits’ unique interpretations of songs by such diverse talents as The Ramones, Daniel Johnston, Kurt Weill & Bertolt Brecht and Leadbelly. These outtakes, rarities and the previously unreleased material were separately grouped into themes and named, Brawlers, Bawlers, and Bastards. And now these titles will be released individually.

This LP, released especially for Record Store Day 2018, is something like how I wished I had sounded when I was 12. But, I hadn't the technology, some of it didn't even exist. Nor the ability, I was still learning. Nor the voice, it was yet to break. Endless Futures is a record of two halves, yet of a piece. The sprawling title track that occupies the entirety of the first side contrasts with the short, sharp shocks of songs that comprise the second side. Both are re-imagined punk rock. But, this isn't music of the past. Re-purposing the music of my early adolescence takes me to a new musical zone, one in which the niceties of ornament are discarded in favour of directness. It isn't about being pretty, it is about saying something. With improvised lyrics, the message is of the moment. And, if all points in time are equally real, this eternal present of looking back is our Endless Future."
