30

'30' is a wilfully jubilant, beautifully composed collection of pieces that skilfully combine the best parts of classic rock, wandering psychedelia and upbeat modern pop music. 'Art Isn't Subjective (Mark Said)' for example is rife with cultural reference points, the immediate one of which is late 60's UK psychedelia (that Floyd Jangle or clever Beatles time signature changes) but it doesn't make any of the pieces here sound like a pastiche, rather a well implimented, tributary collection of influences.

Elsewhere, pieces like 'A Bit Like Door' or 'Our Time' flirt with arrhythmic passages and instrumental non sequiturs, but it always comes back to the deeply melodic, warmly emotive core of PRRSR's sound. Really well written, beautifully produced and nicely presented all round. And it's a fiver!

    Gaol Bird

    Gaol Bird

Snarling punky riffs and soaring fuzzed-out guitars work their way beneath the insistent post-punk flavoured wry vocals of Manchester's Gaol Bird. It's immediately reminicent of late 90's skate punk or the snapping percussion of industrial, but with a humour that you don't often get shining through in modern indie music. Nicely done, and great fun throughout.
