ROBOT84

Robot84 is a master of blending Italo disco and Balearic house into perfectly escapist sounds for grown-up dancefloors and now he returns with Promo Vol 5, another vital drop in his celebrated limited edition vinyl series. This one has four more standout tracks including the lead 'Let's Do It' (Vocal) and its dub counterpart, 'Let's Do It' (Dub) alongside the Balearic-inspired 'Beats From the Far East' (which has already been hammered by the likes of Bill Brewster, Chris Coco and Colleen 'Cosmo' Murphy) and the more calming sonic waters of the blissful 'Ambient Love'.

STAFF COMMENTS

Mine says: Volume 5 of Robot84's promo series provides uptempo chuggy house before he slows things down on side B where Beats From The Far East wins brownie points by sampling Propaganda and Ambient Love does what it says on the tin.

Magic Wand Special Editions Vol. 11

Robot 84 has fired up his machines and kicked out four superb new jams for this latest Magic Wand release. Opener 'AGAL' is a slow, percolating jam with shimmery synths and squelchy bass then 'Galaxies' brings some dusty broken beats and sugar chords for a nice laidback vibe. 'Feels Good' is another loose-limbed rhythm with wispy pads, DIY percussive sounds and bass that is rich in reverb. Last of all is 'Where Is The Dub' which slows things right to a crawl with plucked guitars and loads more echo to sink into.

STAFF COMMENTS

Barry says: Crisp drum machine loops, snappy horn samples and off-kilter chug, with more than a nod to classic disco but with just enough wobble to give these pieces a real syncopated groove. Lovely stuff.

Where Is The Dub

This new and heavyweight 12" from Robot84 is a fresh fusion of Italo and house vibes that are defined by lively percussion, lush pianos, 808 drum fills, and an irresistible vocal hook. The original of this has already garnered attention with high praise from Manchester legend Justin Robertson who dropped it at a Hacienda 51 gig for its 30th anniversary. Sean Johnston, Heidi Lawden, Laurent Garnier and more have all also been playing it out recently which tells you all you need to know, really. Flip it over for a dubbed-out headwrecker that is just as good.

STAFF COMMENTS

Mine says: The last Robot84 record has been flying off the shelves and I have a feeling that this one might prove similarly popular. The title might be slightly misleading though as Robot84 abandons the cosmic tinged sounds of 'Get It Right Next Time' for a prime time electro house pumper complete with piano theme and hands in the air breakdowns.
