ARKA

Crazy, Hungarian voodoo shamanism here published through Wadada's Arka imprint. In the Suns Of The Arqa style, world music is pushed to the most psychedelic and spiritual realms. "Aeon" by the Gayan Uttejak Orchestra is described as 'Apocryphal musicological fragments from the Paleolith to the 1st Millenium', with each track coming with a brief history about the time it emerged (written in the inlay). It's some really far out stuff, eastern European instruments and scales meeting in a collage of psychedelic swirls, spoken word utterances and rampant percussion workouts. More incidental and atmospheric than the direct trancendendance of the Arqa gear, you actually get the feeling you're lost in some ancient Budapest drinking hole, with the smell of goulash filling the air.
