ABOUT THIS ITEM
After a handful of limited edition single releases, Fanfarlo now bring us their wonderful debut album. Combining the multi-layered propulsive rhythms of Arcade Fire with a very British sounding indie pop (circa C86 / Postcard Records era) they've created a really great album that balances intensity and fragility perfectly. Layers of delicate acoustics and Simon Balthazars wonderfully faltering vocals are embellished with chugging drums, handclaps, pianos, strings and trumpets that at times are jaunty and upbeat and at others melancholic. There's a hint of Beirut in their sound partly due the use of trumpets and partly Simon's vocals, (which also remind me at times of Edwyn Collins and David Byrne at others!), but it's a very individual sounding album. It was produced by Peter Kartis who's worked with The National and Interpol amongst others and he's given them a huge sound - melancholic and uplifting at the same time! Don't miss this!
