Another Taste

Another Taste

The much anticipated album by Another Taste released on Space Grapes - an eclectic ooze of boogie, funk, and obscure disco. Comes in a tip-on sleeve and with a download code.

Another Taste's debut brings together a blend of boogie, 70’s funk and obscure disco - birthed from unearthing forgotten sounds and reinventing them for the modern era. A recipe they’ve been cooking up successfully over the last years in the studio, through their label Space Grapes and on tour through some of Europe’s finest stages.

Another Taste is a Rotterdam-born concept band formed by a group of longtime friends, consisting of Bobby van Putten (keys), Bob Roche (bass), Barend Lippens (keys) and Teun van Zoggel (drums).

Inspired by the obscurity and the do-it-yourself approach of private press culture of the late 1970s and 80s, their first releases were mostly a product of late night sessions between the four of them at the studio of their co-producer Danilo Plessow (MCDE), leading to the founding of Space Grapes Records.

The band’s first songs were released under various pseudonyms such as Mad Honey, GALXTC or Jambonne and quickly gathered them a loyal following and support from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Kenny Dope and many more.

Another Taste ripples their sound beyond the studio and onto the stage. In their live performances they introduce additional band members in Sarina Voorn (Vox), Diogo Carvalho (percussion) and Florian Verhagen (guitar). A core group with whom they’ve played at prestigious festivals such as Worldwide or Kappa Futur and legendary venues such as Jazz Cafe London, New Morning Paris, and Tresor Berlin.

From the A-side opener "Turn Up" to the B-side closer "Perfect Night," the album is a testament to Another Taste’s ceaseless creative exploration. Each of the 6 songs on the album presents a new invitation to experience their genre-defying sound and bring people together in delight!

    STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Probably the most anticipated modern disco record of the last few years. Another Taste, up till recenlt, have remained ellusive and anonymous, operating under various guises yet still completely dominating the landscape with releases on Star Creature. Now with the veil removed, the band are set to receive global discoball recognition, most probably coming to a festival stage near you this summer!

More, new, authentic disco action from the Space Grapes firm. Round one and its repress sold out in super quick time and I reckon this one will follow suit...

Intent on bringing the good times back to the dancefloor, GALXTC's "Life Is A Mirror" sees the hustle and bustle of late '70s disco brought kicking and screaming into 2021 via a fat pressing and a high definition mix master. Like classic P&P, Brass Construction and Womack & Womack its driven by the familiar thud and whack of congas before being laced with funky clavs, grasping guitar licks and cranium-twisting keyboard solos. The formular is classic but the nuances and details are fresh and unique!

Three version, with a dub and a version to give the working DJ as many options as possible.

Another crucial Space Grapes lands. Influenced by the deeper side of late 70s New York (think Mancuso, Gibbons and Levan), the single features both vocal and dub versions of the dancefloor jam "Turn Down The Lights“, as well as the trippy, almost 10 minute long remix version of "Take Me To New York", full of spacey FX, percussion madness and unexpected turns. As usual, seriously limited copies. Order quickly to avoid disappointment!

Matt says: Another slice of imperative new disco from the Jeroboam clan who exercise authentic Loft-y disco vibes on this bustling new jam. Blink and you'll miss it!

Tasty little 7" from Space Grapes and Jambonne here; the label's continuing desire to press new, exciting disco and boogie ina P&P, Mancusso-friendly style has been a winner with Piccadilly customers and the record buying public as a whole.

Here we get more bustlin' NY-flavoured disco with nice wooden drums, bright brass and a bass with its belt unbuckled. The big chorus line : 'if you wanna go...' is as anthemic as you like and'll sit alongside any high grade '78-'79 number with confidence.

"Touch Down" follows suit; that classic production style prominent as ever as catchy guitar chops and space-age Moog line cut through the groove. It's an instrumental number, but hard hitting as funky as you like; perfect for the post-peak moments when the crowd are fully lumbered up and loose as you like.

Unmissable for modern disco spinners, collectors of the genres or anyone who likes to have a dance around the dinner table on a Saturday night! Highly recommended.

Matt says: I miss these every time and end up kicking myself for weeks. Be more like Pasta Paul and bag yourself some authentic, traditional sounding NEW disco which kicks, bumps and grooves as good as any of the rest! Loft-ready and full of warmth; who said the old ones are the best?
