Ambala

Vol. 2

Phil Mison returns with a second album under his Ambala-moniker, presenting a generous set of aquatic beats and moonlit synth-grooves of the highest quality.

A true architect of the Balearic sound, Mison has released music under several monikers, among them Ambala, Reverso 68 and Cantoma, whose debut has been canonized as an all-time chill-out great.

On this sophomore Ambala LP, Mison continues to elaborate and seek new avenues for the chill-out sound, layering solid digital grooves with organic instrumentations and dreamy synth leads.

Several instrumentalists from the Music For Dreams roster guest the album. Guitarist Santino Surfers (Jonas Krag) serves up a number of exquisite solos throughout the album, ranging from smoky twang to Mediterranean romance. Composer Troels Hammer and pop ambient artist The Swan And The Lake provide tranquil sweeps of keys and synth, often blooming into dreamy little melodies.

Also featuring on the album are producers Anders Ponsaing, WALTHER and OliO.

By the early 1990s, multidisciplinary thinker, philosopher and mystic Terrence McKenna had found himself to be one of the darlings of the burgeoning rave scene - going on to become one of the most sampled voices in dance music to this day. However, the very high point of Terrence McKenna’s intersection with dance music is undoubtedly Alien Dreamtime - taking place at a 48 hour rave in 1993 San Francisco, a multi-media collaboration of didgeridoo, live video mixing and the sublime, techno-ambient, sonic wizardry of the unimitable Jonah Sharp aka Spacetime Continuum laying the foundation for McKenna to whip the audience into a frenzy as he belts out his musings on eschatology and peering behind the linguistic curtain through the power of the psychedelic experience. For the very first time, the recording of this seminal event is being released on vinyl format to help you tune into the Gaian mind.

    Modern Woman

    Johnny's Dreamworld

Modern Woman, the London art-rock outfit fronted by Sophie Harris, release their anticipated debut album ‘Johnny’s Dreamworld’. ‘Johnny’s Dreamworld’ represents the culmination of Modern Woman’s journey from Harris’s early, intimate songwriting project into a full-bodied band capable of folding post-punk, avant-garde, and folk traditions into a live force of dynamic originality. At its heart, the record explores the strange poetry buried within the ordinary. Harris’s lyrics, steeped in literary detail and filmic atmosphere, draw from a fascination with the dark underbelly of the everyday and the contradictions of womanhood.

Harris explains, “A vital theme I’ve always wanted in Modern Woman is the idea of conflicting things, of the tender/harsh, loud/quiet and scrappy/polished. The style of everybody’s playing, drawing from a melting pot of influences, coming together to form something new.

This interplay defines the album’s sound, delicate one moment, raw and untamed the next. Layers of violin and saxophone stretch across a foundation of propulsive drums and bass, creating something equally methodical and volatile. Harris’s lyrics remain rooted in the female experience; “I find it interesting to explore the rawer side of femininity that is often hidden; girlhood relationships and the complexities of female fixation and obsession.”

      Cactus Lee

      Lee's Dream

For years, Cactus Lee has quietly built a singular body of work, playing honky-tonks around Austin while releasing records at a steady, self-driven pace. 'Lee’s Dream', his second album for Western Vinyl, feels like the natural distillation of that journey—written on the road, refined at home, and shaped by the push and pull between devotion to music and devotion to family.

Conceived during a monthlong solo tour through the Midwest and South, the songs began as sketches written in vans and motel rooms, sparked in part by a visit to Guy Clark’s reconstructed basement at the Country Music Hall of Fame. Returning home to personal upheaval, Kevin Dehan turned inward, writing songs that balance restlessness with resolve, longing with responsibility.

Recorded at Fort Horton Studios with producer Billy Horton, 'Lee’s Dream' leans into classic country forms and Sun-era sensibilities, guided by touchstones like John D. Loudermilk, Glen Campbell, and early Gordon Lightfoot. Finished with contributions from a close circle of collaborators, the album feels communal and lived-in—joyous and melancholy in equal measure. Rooted in Texas imagery and country folklore, 'Lee’s Dream' plays like a familiar fever dream, honoring tradition while quietly bending it to Dehan’s own unmistakable voice.

        The Dream Machine

        Fort Perch Rock

The Dream Machine is back with their third studio album, 'Fort Perch Rock', following a successful few years of UK shows, multiple BBC 6 Music airplays (including a feature on Maida Vale with Steve Lamacq), and festival appearances at Kendal Calling, The Great Escape, and Sound City.

This Wirral five-piece has established itself as one of the most exciting new acts in the northern guitar music scene. Often compared to bands like King Gizzard, their live shows are chaotic, euphoric, and impossible to ignore. They have supported The Coral and The Lathums and gained recognition from Radio X and BBC Introducing.

'Fort Perch Rock' marks a new but familiar chapter for the band. The album is bold, cinematic, and deeply rooted in their origins. Named after the iconic New Brighton landmark, it serves as a gritty love letter to seaside life, brimming with raw emotion and fuzz-soaked guitars.

The Dream Machine is not just following trends, they are forging their own path, and it leads to 'Fort Perch Rock'.

          Beatglider

Dreaming Of Roads - 2025 Reissue

Formed in Southend in the late 90’s, Beatglider’s tale is a familiar one taking in early acclaim only for momentum and promise to be dashed by major label statis and indifference.

After the release of the debut long-player, ‘40 Days Of Summer’, in 1999 the band signed to Sony subsidiary Lakota and decamped to LA to record its follow-up, ‘Dreaming Of Roads’, an album that was never to see the light of day.

And now, over 20 years later, ‘Dreaming Of Roads’ eventually gets a deserved release on 28th February via the Arlen label. A beautiful 11-track understated delight which musically falls somewhere between the likes of Elliott Smith, Grandaddy, Yo La Tengo and Sparklehorse, the album has not only stood the test of time, but arguably sounds as fresh as ever in 2026.

James Taylor (The James Taylor Quartet)

            Shadows & Dreams

Revered for his Hammond organ work, soul-jazz grooves, and his three decade career leading The James Taylor Quartet, maestro keyboard player
James Taylor releases his first album of classical works.

His long association with Acid Jazz Records continues, as the label also
steps into the classical world for the very first time.

Recorded solo on a Steinway grand piano, Taylor performs some of his
favourite pieces from the classical cannon, with familiar tunes alongside
lesser-known works on this beautiful, atmospheric recording. His
interpretations show a deep love of classical music.

Always one to evolve, just as the James Taylor Quartet introduced Herbie
Hancock to the indie scene of the late ‘80s, Taylor in turn introduces his
audience to a new repertoire, with a remarkable, fresh and modern solo
              classical piano album.

              Puma Blue

              Croak Dream

With his new record Croak Dream, Puma Blue (real name Jacob Allen) returns to the spectral intimacy that first won him a cult following, now reimagined with the raw, instinctive energy of his live band. The album fuses lo-fi jazz balladry with jungle breaks, krautrock textures and trip-hop atmosphere, drawing comparisons to Portishead, Jeff Buckley, and D’Angelo.

Written in solitude and brought to life in collaboration, Croak Dream was conjured from tape loop sessions at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios, co-produced and engineered by Sam Petts-Davies (The Smile, Frank Ocean) where the band improvised to fragments of Allen’s songs they’d never fully heard. The result is a dreamlike collage of baritone sax-drenched ballads and restless grooves: tender, feverish, and alive.

This record marks a daring evolution for Puma Blue, balancing bold sonic experimentation with raw emotional clarity, tailor-made for the stage.

                    Marta Del Grandi

                    Dream Life

Italian singer-songwriter Marta Del Grandi returns with Dream Life, an album that bustles in a field of dreams, a multi-dimensional panoramic snapshot punctuated with serene disillusionment, that transcends musical boundaries as personal hopes and aspirations are cast against the vastness of the stars and beyond.

The record opens with Antarctica, addressing the world’s ethical dilemma and shaking us out of our comfort zone with a riff reminiscent of Talking Heads in their prime, infused with Laurie Anderson-like abstract phrasing.  While Neon Lights underlines the sentiment but tackles it on a more personal level, its fuzzy guitars and roaming bass offering a harsher slice of rebellious self-exploration set in a symphonic swirl of sound.

“My previous album Selva had a poetic and bucolic nature - in my head I can picture each song as an oil painting - Dream Life has a more contemporary approach, with lyrics touching political and social issues, a more explicit personal storytelling and a more defined pop sound. It’s more like a photobook, more defined and detailed”. - Marta Del Grandi

Further into Dream Life, Alpha Centauri is a haunting introspective slice of pop magic that allows Marta’s gorgeous vocal to prowl in nostalgia for teenage times, rediscovering her inner child while a distant tuba carries a counter melody. The title track examines the quantum leap between reality and our dreams and ambitions, a counter point to Shoe Shaped Cloud and its brooding study of a relationship gone awry that’s propelled by an aching vocal which recalls Radiohead at their most brittle.

The album reflects a growing awareness that we cannot fully control the future or the outcome of our plans. This thread weaves throughout the record, a journey that is poetic, ironic, and deeply grounded in the present.

                      Tangerine Dream

50 Years Of Phaedra : At The Barbican

What began as an experimental session at Richard Branson's Manor Studios in Oxfordshire became a seismic event in modern sound. Using the Moog sequencer for the first time, Tangerine Dream - then comprised of Edgar Froese, Christopher Franke & Peter Baumann - crafted 'Phaedra', an album that shimmered with innovation, mystery & a palpable sense of discovery.

Half a century later, Tangerine Dream returned to London's Barbican to honour that landmark work - reimagining it for a new era. Across its three vinyl LPs, '50 Years Of Phaedra: At The Barbican' captures this transcendent live performance, in which the current line- up - Thorsten Quaeschning, Hoshiko Yamane & Paul Frick - revisit the spirit of 'Phaedra' with the very tools that Froese & his collaborators helped pioneer.

                        Pizza Hotline

                        DREAM SELECT

'DREAM SELECT' is the sequel to Pizza Hotline's 2022 genre-defining album 'Level Select', continuing his signature blend of nostalgic, video game-inspired drum & bass with a melodic and uplifting edge.

Personally, to give a bit of context, these tracks fully embrace that 'Intelligent' Drum & Bass scene of the early/mid 90's. Think Bukem (obviously), but also Aquarius (Photek) & PFM, plus some of the earlier Moving Shadow artists such as Flytronix, JMJ & Richie and Dave Wallace. If you have customers who feel that style of D&B then pass them a hit of this LP.

Pizza Hotline wrote and produced the album throughout 2024 in his North London studio, with just a computer and a few 90s outboard synths and samplers. The sound relies on obscure and dated 90s sample CDs, as well as hunting through ROMplers and digital synths of the era to find crystalline, artificial, and precise sounds that have come to define Pizza hotline's sound. The result is a focused, minimalistic, and deeply nostalgic record, one that balances texture, emotion, and groove in equal measure.

The album continues the UK based producer's journey into the fusion of Y2K video game aesthetics with modern breakbeat music. As the name suggests, 'DREAM SELECT' is a collection of dreamy, hypnotic, and emotionally-charged tracks, built to feel like they're from a forgotten 2000s video game that never existed. It draws heavily on the sound and spirit of the PS1, PS2, Dreamcast, and N64 eras and games such as Wipeout and Ape Escape.

                          Fuzz

Fuzz's Fourth Dream: Singles, Demos And Rarities

Fuzz, the California based trio of Ty Segall (vocals, drums), Charles Moothart (vocals, guitar), and Chad Ubovich (vocals, bass), present their latest release Fuzz’s Fourth Dream on In The Red Records. This is the band’s first release in four years and is a collection of singles, unreleased demos, and rarities.

“I lived in a four-bedroom house in San Francisco that housed anywhere from six to ten people at a time,” Moothart explains. “Friends were always crashing when they were between spots, on tour, or just couldn’t make it home. It was a chaotic space, but a space that was cherished by many. Chad frequently crashed on our couch when on tour—surrounded by ashtrays full of cigarettes and joint roaches; beer cans and spray paint cans.

“I remember jamming on guitar and drums with Ty at like 2 AM in the garage (still feel bad for putting the neighbors through that.) One day, under Ty’s guidance, I dragged a 388 in to the garage. I decided I wanted to write a Sabbath-style riff just to see what happens. I laid down some drums, then came up with what would become “Fuzz’s Fourth Dream.”.I showed Ty the ‘demo’ which was more of a sloppy idea. He basically said ‘Let’s make this band”... and Fuzz was off. “This collection really does give a proper road map to what this band is and was, as well as how the two connect,” Moothart explains. “Fuzz means a lot to me, and I have learned so much through these processes. Thank you to any one who has been listening to these songs since the beginning, and thank you to any one who is here for the first time.”

Hailing from the city of Brotherly Love, Terri Wells first came to prominence as a session singer for Philadelphia International Records in the mid 1970’s following the breakup of her group City Limits. Wells soon began recording and touring as a featured vocalist with artists such as Lou Rawl, M.F.S.B., Leon Huff, Jean Carne and Dexter Wansel. In 1979, she joined the band of Roy Ayres and eventually sang on “Turn Me Loose” and co-wrote the track “Let’s Stay Together” from his 1982 album “Feeling Good”. Recruited by staff producer Nick Martinelli, Terri signed as a solo act with the Philly World Records in 1983 and released her one and only full length offering “Just Like Dreamin’” The album features the singles “You Make It Heaven” and “I’llll Be Around” which both charted in the United Kingdom. To this day her sensational debut remains a classic example of the soulful Philly sound of the the early 1980’s.

                              Sassy 009

                              Dreamer+

Sassy 009 is the shape-shifting project from Oslo-based producer, songwriter and vocalist Sunniva Lindgård. 'Dreamer+' is an album Lindgård has imagined for years: a concept-driven album pieced together from nearly four years of studio effort, and an ambitious attempt to take complete control of her artistry.

Steered by freshly distorted vocals and elements of grunge, shoegaze, ‘90s beatronica and gauzy hyperpop, the album is a record of self-discovery and self-effacement at once, studded with guest contributions from Blood Orange, BEA1991 and Yunè Pinku.

'Dreamer+' is work of fiction at its core, a grim fairytale in which dreams and emotions are processed through a landscape of shapeshifting characters, dark forces and moral responsibilities. Sent on a mission to an abandoned town, Lindgård is her own main character, hurled into a “magical but distorted dream-like world” after a fatal encounter: “Her love for Jakov is absurdly intertwined with his dying; no path could lead her away from it.”

With her fantasy story as scaffolding, Lindgård sets herself free as a songwriter, taking inspiration from the organic electronica of Gorillaz, the hazy moods of Boards of Canada, Nirvana’s grunge pop logic and even Lil Wayne’s deftly distorted vocals.

Barry says: Sleekly produced, impeccably pristine glitch-pop that lurches from dark into a bright blinding light at the flick of a switch. Rich melodies are subverted and spread across the sonic spectrum before coming together into a wall of of android melody. Surprising, bold and wonderfully immersive.

                                  Elder

                                  Liminality / Dream State Return

At the end of 2024, Elder looked back on an unusual period in their now near 20-year career. A few years ago, the band had released their most progressive record yet, 2022's highly acclaimed 'Innate Passage', followed by the usual heavy touring schedule, including a 24-show arena tour supporting Tool. The band then took a year-long sabbatical to recharge their creative batteries, which, instead of rest, culminated in the release of multiple albums by side projects.

Convening in the winter of that year for a two-week songwriting session at Big Snuff Studio in Berlin, the band set a goal of knocking off the rust and putting together ideas for the next record. While combing through an archive of old sketches, they hit upon an outline of a song from somewhere between 2020's 'Omens' and its successor 'Innate Passage', abandoned then for reasons now inscrutable. Picking up the pieces with fresh ears, Elder fleshed out a new version of the track, which is firmly rooted between those two albums but with an identity of its own. Building on the song's ending, a swirling tower of synthesizers, chugging guitars, and almost tribal drumming was constructed during lengthy in-studio jams.

'Liminality/Dream State Return' can be seen as a bridge between eras in Elder's creative universe: one foot is planted in the highly melodic and sometimes alternative/grunge-tinged riffing of 'Omens', the other in 'Innate Passage's dreamy prog soundscapes, with its head in the clouds looking toward Elder's upcoming LP 7.

                                    Massive Dread - 2025 Reissue

This debut album captures Massive Dread at an early stage of his career when he was starting to make a name for himself as a unique voice in reggae

The production has that classic late-70s roots vibe-- deep basslines, steady drum rhythms, and dub influences mixed with Massive Dread's distinctive vocal style.

The album contains a mix of vocal tracks and deejay toasting, showcasing Massive Dread's versatility. His style helped bridge the gap between the roots reggae era and the rising dancehall movement.

Second Circle is very excited to announce ‘In Dream’, the eight-track debut album from Tokyo-born, Berlin-based producer and DJ Courtney Bailey.

Sonically, 'In Dream' unfolds as a rich, lush soundscape, woven together with expansive digital synth pads, Fairlight-esque stabs, and vibrant acid bass lines. At times the EP leans back horizontally to evoke the balearic spirit of Yello ('Burnt Moon'), at other times it leans more upright towards to dancefloor ('In Heaven'), but what remains throughout is a sense of intimacy, gracefully guided by Bailey’s whisper soft spoken vocals and gentle melodic vocal lines.

Building on an initial spark of inspiration that arose when listening to the work of Japanese artist Dream Dolphin aka Noriko Kodera, ‘In Dream' is Bailey’s direct creative response to new feelings, energy and emotions. Time spent in the outdoors, specifically in the natural landscapes of Australia also had a profound influence on the making of the record; opener ‘Kodou’ was directly inspired by a moment in Melbourne watching rainbow-colored parrots in a pink-flowering tree. Similarly, 'Burnt Moon' captures the essence of watching moonlight shimmer on ocean waters. At its core, 'In Dream' embraces a child-like wonder for the beauty of nature, an act which infuses the music with a radiant, luminous sense of positivity.

Capturing the essence of stepping into the unknown and more importantly, doing it with curiosity and optimism, ‘In Dream’ paints a vibrant, multi-colour vision of life, with Bailey inviting us all to immerse ourselves in it’s wonders.

Sleeve art and design by Michael Willis.

                                      Horse Lords & Arnold Dreyblatt

                                      FRKWYS Vol. 18: Extended Field

'Extended Field' unites Horse Lords and Arnold Dreyblatt for the eighteenth volume of 'FRKWYS', an intergenerational collaboration of adventurous musicians drawn to the sonically radiant world of just intonation—an ancient tuning system in which scale intervals are derived from whole-number ratios. Dreyblatt first immersed himself in this approach in New York during the 1970s, while Horse Lords began exploring and applying its possibilities nearly four decades later. Together, they create a vibrant harmonic environment, fueled by a shared devotion to rhythm, achieving a marriage of discreet but related aesthetics for the ages. Dreyblatt is a pioneer of psychoacoustic phenomenon, serving as an assistant to La Monte Young between 1975 and 1977 before studying with the legendary Alvin Lucier at Wesleyan University. He discovered the sonic power of excited strings, retrofitting a double bass with piano wires and striking with a rapid thrum to produce enveloping clouds of metallic overtones.

Dreyblatt’s 1982 album 'Nodal Excitation' laid out a sonic blueprint that resides at the heart of his pulsating music today. He eventually moved to Berlin, and has led various ensembles over the years that have amplified and interpreted the compositional scaffolding he built around his ringing tones. In contrast to Dreyblatt’s hyper-focused practice, Horse Lords have built an ecstatic, hybrid sound all their own; hard-driving rhythmic sprawls support a collision of traditional ritual music, free jazz, and spectrally brilliant electronic showers of psychoacoustic sound. After cementing a devoted following with their 2020 album The Common Task, most of the band relocated to Germany in 2021, with guitarist Owen Gardner and bassist Max Eilbacher settling in Berlin, and saxophonist Andrew Bernstein a few hours away in Bavaria. Drummer Sam Haberman remained in Baltimore, although he reconvenes with the band for album recordings, including the 2023 album 'Comradely Objects', and extended tours Unbeknownst to one another the two parties shared a mutual interest in one another’s music.

In early 2017 Dreyblatt’s long-time colleague and friend Werner Durand suggested he check out the band. He recalls, “After listening, I quickly replied: ‘Sounds great! A little like my music. I’ve never heard of them!’ I sent a message through their Bandcamp page, and they responded: ‘Hello! Thanks for the note, we’re big fans of your music!’ But it wasn’t until Dreyblatt caught the band in Berlin in October of 2021 that they finally crossed paths. Days later Bernstein proposed a collaboration. This process would unfold slowly but surely; both parties were exceedingly busy, and when the musicians eventually assembled, they had different harmonic conceptions to reconcile and needed someone in the room to fill Haberman’s percussive role. Dreyblatt suggested Andrea Belfi, a venerable Italian drummer and composer based in Berlin.

In the composing sessions that followed, Horse Lords and Dreyblatt learned the finer points of one another’s harmonic preferences and found ways to fuse them in a single unified sound. “Andrew and Owen proposed structures for navigating my tonal systems,” explains Dreyblatt, “while Max developed weighted algorithmic frequency patterns in SuperCollider.” Many denizens of the tuning universe hold stubbornly strong convictions about what’s right and what’s wrong, so the patience and openness from both parties is quite unusual, with the partnership bringing out fascinating accents and alterations.

                                          DJ-Kicks: Eris Drew

The next instalment in the classic DJ-Kicks series is a selection of rapturous house, blissed-out breaks, and transcendent rave from the high priestess of the motherbeat herself, Chicago’s Eris Drew.

DJ, producer, musician, long-time resident at Chicago’s Smartbar, and co-creator of the T4T LUV NRG party and label, Eris Drew has been DJing since the early 90s, and has since taken her ecstatic house and high-energy, uncompromising mixing style to clubs, raves, and festivals worldwide.

Eris’ DJ-Kicks mix is 79 minutes of, as she puts it “the funky, emotional, ecstatic house-and-breaks backbone that defines my sound”, and includes tracks, remixes, and exclusives by Moby, Calisto, DJ Garth, Onionz, DJ Who, Kair, Hoof, and Toka Project, as well as from Eris herself and partner Octo Octa.

The result of countless hours of digging, her selection delves into the rattling breaks, rave stabs, and haunting strings of classic and lost ‘90s hybrid house-and-breaks jams, and matches them with more recent digs, the mix moving back and forth between emotive, bittersweet, and evocative, to raw, tough, and twisted with consummate ease.

Put together on two turntables and a mixer in her New Hampshire cabin studio, this is more than just a collection of hype tunes: “I recorded it in my cabin with the violent world rolling around me. Being in my refuge in the forest was important; the mix needed to carry the feeling of that place and the inspiration I draw from it. ”This is a mix that nails the Eris Drew sound and approach, where her perfectly pitched selections, seamless transitions, and high-energy cuts, scratches, and spinbacks are all employed in the service of a single aim: “I wanted the mix to feel like climbing a mountain - to produce an ecstatic sensation of overcoming.”

Eris first began mixing records together when she was 18 and hasn’t really stopped since, honing the skills that went into this mix for over three decades. As she says: “I’m an all-vinyl DJ with 30-plus years of mixing behind me, and I feel the mix reflects that.” Many of these records have been with Eris for years and have travelled the world with her. Some of them, you can hear their age, because she specifically asked the mastering engineer to preserve this in the reproduction. Raw and real: this is the sound of Eris Drew.

                                            The Dreaming Spires

                                            Normal Town

This is the band's third album and their first new music in nearly a decade. 'Normal Town' was self-produced at various locations in their hometown of Didcot, with some overdubs contributed by keyboard player Tom at his home in the Scottish Borders. The album was mastered by Tony Poole, known for his work with Starry Eyed & Laughing and Bennett Wilson Poole. The Dreaming Spires are a British band known for their distinctive harmonies, roots-infused sound, and Americana-tinged indie rock. Their music has drawn comparisons to artists such as Big Star, Gram Parsons, Teenage Fanclub, and The Byrds, incorporating elements of Americana, country, folk/rock, and classic 60s pop.

Exploring themes of home, nostalgia, alienation and the beauty of the everyday, the record blends 60s rock ‘n’ roll influences, nodding to the Who, Jeff Lynne and the Everly Brothers, and chamber pop accents underpinned by a subtle layer of political commentary, with tracks like ‘Normalisation’, ‘21st Century Light Industrial’ and the title track ‘Normal Town’, which pays homage to their hometown of Didcot, once dubbed "the most normal town in England."

Brothers Robin and Joe Bennett previously formed the Oxfordshire indie band Goldrush in the early 2000s, which signed to Virgin Records. Over the last decade, they have toured the world as part of Saint Etienne's live band and the award-winning group Bennett Wilson Poole. Jamie Dawson drums for touring US artists such as Annie Keating and Carter Sampson, while Tom Collison also plays keys in Danny & the Champions of the World. Nick Fowler is band member of choice for the likes of Gaz Coombes and Peter Buck.

“The Dreaming Spires have a familiar sound, one that seems to sit at the fringes of recollection. Perhaps it's the cast involved. The band are an offshoot of Goldrush and Danny & The Champions Of The World, with their sound reflecting the shimmering, acoustic side of those projects.” - Clash Magazine

"...pays homage to American rock idols like Big Star, with Byrdsy harmonies and charming accents" - Time Out New York

"Big Star by way of Gram Parsons and Teenage Fanclub." - The Independent

                                              Kali Malone & Drew McDowall

                                              Magnetism

Kali Malone and Drew McDowall present 'Magnetism', their first collaborative album born from a decade-long friendship and ignited by a single day of creative synergy. When Malone stepped into McDowall’s Brooklyn home studio, a shared vision immediately took root and set the course for a remarkable collaboration between these two singular artists.

On 'Magnetism', Malone’s poignant and evocative melodies manifest through McDowall’s signature timbral synthesis, creating a unified voice that soars freely and radiates with vitality. Technically, the duo employs an exquisite blend of Karplus-Strong synthesis, distortion and just intonation. Kali and Drew embrace these tools with refined grace while moving fluidly within their musical framework. Charged by the magnetic pull of repetition, saturation, and resonance, Magnetism pulses as a living music that captivates the senses and lingers long in the mind after the final notes fade.

Paper Mâché Dream Balloon - Eco Vinyl Edition

Starting out in 2010 as a solid garage rock group, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard followed their collective muse wherever it chose to lead them. For their latest opus, 'Paper Mache Dream Balloon', they initially thought it was going to be filled with the darker, heavier material that the band has been playing live of late. But frontman Stu Mackenzie soon decided that it was time to put aside the longer, more conceptual pieces and go in a completely new direction. On previous records King Gizzard has channeled many different sounds: From heavily distorted, kraut-driven rock on their 2014 album 'I'm In Your Mind Fuzz' to expansive, almost jazzy, Dead-like head trips on 'Quarters!' Or as Mackenzie puts it, "I always wanted to be a band where you would expect the unexpected each time, with each album being treated like a different phase." Hence, the band's seventh album was recorded using nothing but acoustic instruments. Mackenzie elaborated on this with: "Acoustic guitars, flute, double bass, fiddle, harmonica, drum kit, clarinet. Whatever we could find really." The result is a lovely, lilting pop masterpiece that still evokes the same intoxicating exuberance as King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard's most recent work, but with a more pastoral, communal feel to it.

Olof Dreijer (ex-The Knife) returns to Dekmantel with "Iris", a new 4-track EP, just in time for his North America tour. Featuring remixes by Nidia and Verraco, "Iris" follows his 2024 collab with Diva Cruz, remixes for Björk ft. Rosalía and Röyksopp, plus acclaimed solo EPs on Hessle Audio and AD 93.

Think breakdance-era energy, sound-humour, mutant dancehall and body-synth mischief. "Iris" plays like a garden of sonic creatures—synths mimicking bodily sounds, chopped-up vocal textures, and ‘90s-style chord stabs inspired by Olof’s high school b-boy phase. It’s playful, raw, and weird in the best way.

With over two decades of shapeshifting behind machines and decks, Dreijer’s been a force in electronic music—from festival headliners across Europe to pushing the boundaries with his Oni Ayhun alias. He also co-founded Stockholm’s Bamba Club, a hub for progressive, percussive sounds.

Further recent highlights include co-producing tracks on Fever Ray’s latest album, producing Houeida Hedfi’s debut LP, contributing to projects by Planningtorock and Zhala, remixing Nine Inch Nails, Röyksopp & Robyn, and Emmanuel Jal. An unsurprisingly expansive repetoir for such a skilled and inventive producer.

Imagine Equiknox meets Ricardo Villalobos and you're halfway there!

Journey Of The Deep Sea Dweller IV - 2025 Version

Part 4 of the Drexciya re-issue series! A new repress of the "Journey Of The Deep Sea Dweller" series by Drexciya! It comes with new artwork by critically acclaimed American artist Ellen Gallagher, who created a series of paintings titled Watery Ecstatic, inspired by Drexciya's music which she discovered while immersed in the mid-'90s New York techno scene. Now partly based in New York and Rotterdam, the connection was easily made. Her Watery Ecstatic series serves as the inspiration for the covers of this new edition of "Journey Of The Deep Sea Dweller", with embossed artwork offering a tactile, physical complement to Drexciya's immersive sound world. Drexciya needs no introduction for most; it's one of the most influential projects in techno history. But for some, this might serve as an entry point into their sonic universe and the broader (Detroit) techno culture. Their music emerged from a harsh environment, and it shows - raw, uncompromising, and boundary-pushing. Drexciya redefined Detroit techno like no one else. Their unique sound and mythical aesthetic made them a true cult phenomenon. Guided by Mad Mike Banks of Underground Resistance, their early releases were works of art in themselves. Drexciya stands for the darker, deeper edges of techno and electro--not just club music, but a profound extension of the mind and spirit. Twenty years after the release of "Deep Sea Dweller" (their debut), and ten years after "Grava 4" (their final album) comes  "Journey Of The Deep Sea Dweller": an almost complete collection of their early works, remastered from the original tapes. Since the original releases on labels like Underground Resistance had such a strong identity and still stand on their own, this reissue doesn't aim to recreate that magic. Instead, they've stirred up the catalogue, taking the tracks out of their original context to give the 'in-the-know' listener a fresh experience, and the new listener a perfect introduction to Drexciya's sonic universe. Enjoy the ride!

Compared with so much grid-locked house and techno created during their decade-long lifespan, Drexciya offered an intuitively fluid solution, often recording and playing live to capture an abstract, soulful essence rarely witnessed in any of their contemporaries, harnessing and channelling electronic soul energy, rather than being dictated by it. Their treacherously non-linear edits have long tripped up many a DJ who was probably too boring to bother with anyway, and factored with their sonic fictional myth science, artwork and unique, between-worlds soundsphere, they created a legacy whose capital cannot be measured in standard terms and whose impact may never be fully quantified.

Enigmatic artist Grant, a longtime figure in the deep house and techno underground, collaborates with Alex Albrecht on 'Tangible Dreams'. The two connected via the Scissor & Thread label and Francis Harris, forming a creative partnership. The EP is a textured homage to late '90s dub techno, echoing Basic Channel and Chain Reaction, while retaining a modern touch. The tracks are timeless, groove-focused, and sonically deep.

Of the release, Grant says: "I've been a fan of Alex's work. Through Francis and Scissor & Thread, it felt natural to collaborate. This EP is the kind of music I love to play - not flashy or trendy, but tracks that hold up and grow on you."

With decades of record collecting and acclaimed releases on Lobster Theremin, Mörk, and his own imprints, Grant has built a loyal following. His albums 'The Acrobat', 'Cranks', 'Perception', and 'Fantasy Blues' are collectors' favorites. Alex Albrecht, known for immersive performances at Paradise City, MNMT, Public Records, and Giant Steps, has released on Anjunadeep, Mule Musiq, and his Analogue Attic imprint.

With 'Tangible Dreams', Grant and Albrecht deliver a collaboration destined to stand out.

                                                  Teal Dreams

Yazmin Lacey returns with 'Teal Dreams' - her soulful, fearless second album, rich with real-life storytelling and sonic flair.

Following the breakout success of her debut album 'Voice Notes', praised by Billboard, Fader and Pitchfork (who likened her to Erykah Badu and Lauryn Hill), Yazmin’s star continues to rise. Last year saw her headline London’s Village Underground and KOKO, as well as perform with Ezra Collective on Strictly Come Dancing and Radio 1’s Live Lounge, the unforgettable voice behind firm festival favourite 'God Gave Me Feet for Dancing'.

With 'Teal Dreams', she builds on her signature sound blending soul, ska, lover’s rock and indie into a vivid, emotionally sharp record shaped by real life, late-night reflections, and a last-minute trip to Thailand.

Collaborating with some of the best in class Miles Clinton James (Little Simz ‘Lotus’), Barney Lister, Matt Maltese and more, Yazmin has expanded and elevated her sound on this album. 'Teal Dreams' is a bold, honest evolution, and proof that Yazmin Lacey is only just getting started.

In 1982, The Dream Syndicate started their own record company, Down There Records, to release their self-titled four-song twelve-inch EP, which included the first versions of ‘When You Smile’ and ‘That’s What You Always Say’. They went on to sign with Slash for The Days of Wine and Roses, followed by A&M for the Medicine Show album. After years, the band has earned the right to reissue Medicine Show as a 42-song, 4xCD set featuring 29 unreleased recordings from the 1983 to 1984 era. For this special occasion, The Dream Syndicate are resurrecting their Down There label, which will be distributed by Fire Records.

Medicine Show has always been a controversial album, even before it was recorded. The indie rock darlings became the first Paisley Underground band to sign to a major label, hire a mainstream rock producer, change bass players, and spend months recording the album - after having banged out their previous one, The Days of Wine and Roses, in mere hours.

What this new box set reveals is that, as a live band, they were on fire. For the first time ever, the complete WXRT radio broadcast from the original reel-to-reel master tape is included. This is accompanied by rehearsal and live tapes of Kendra, recorded just before her departure.

It’s all part of the story: early, primitive versions of original songs, plenty of cover versions that the band mangled into something new, and a journey of finding themselves along the way. Thankfully, shows from venues like CBGB’s, Zaders, and Soap Creek reveal some incendiary magic. Beyond the live audio, the album itself has now been remastered from the original analog tapes.

Like many psychologically complex albums, Medicine Show took time to truly settle into listeners’ minds. It’s long overdue, but it has finally arrived.

                                                        POLIÇA

                                                        Dreams Go

Since their emergence from Minneapolis’ vibrant underground in 2011, POLIÇA has carved out a singular space in electronic indie- pop, blending shadowy synths, pulsating rhythms, and the unmistakable vocal presence of Channy Leaneagh.

With ‘Dreams Go’, POLIÇA deliver their most emotionally resonant and texturally rich work to date — a poignant meditation on loss, resilience, and the fragile beauty of holding on. Written and recorded in the shadow of bassist Chris Bierden’s glioblastoma diagnosis, the album is both elegy and act of preservation, capturing the band at a moment of profound transition.

The LP is a collection of eight new songs recorded at Pachyderm Studio in Minnesota, marking the band’s final sessions with Chris Bierden before he lost the ability to play. The record pulses with a raw, elegiac energy, a testament to the chemistry that defined POLIÇA’s first decade.

Though born of grief, Dreams Go is anything but static. It breathes, shimmers, and ultimately insists on the power of making art in the face of uncertainty -  standing as a moving testament to the band’s creative bond, and to Bierden’s indelible role within it.

                                                          Trimdon Grange Explosion

                                                          Dreams Buried Under The Sea

Recorded in rehearsal rooms and homes in the aftermath of a pandemic, 'Dreams Buried Under The Sea' carries a sense of Autumn: an ending of things, and new beginnings. Of harvesting and the storing of all that is good, in preparation for the harsh winter to come. Initially falling together from the ashes of sometimes celebrated electric-folkies The Eighteenth Day Of May back in 2006, Trimdon Grange Explosion have a way of taking their time. Built on the strong friendships of the individuals going way back, their approach to music-making has involved infrequent London based live appearances, but lots of recording, the results offered forward only when necessary.

The years following have seen the departure of founding member, viola player Alison Cotton to concentrate on well received solo work, but still appearing on three tracks on the new record. Alison’s departure preceded the arrival of new member, formidable bassist Ben Reed whose long resume includes work with Frank Ocean, Sampha and Hannah Peel, in addition to making solo records, the most recent being “Bandaged” on Esoteric in 2023. His arrival frees up original bassist Mark Nicholas to join Ben Phillipson on guitar duties. Phillipson also takes sole charge of vocals, double-tracked and harmonised. Drummer Karl Sabino completes the line-up, also handling most of the recording and production.

Not completely putting their folk tendencies to one side, the album documents a band learning to communicate with the new line-up; a sound that stretches from the Albion Country Band’s pastoral intricacy to Pavement’s lo-fi inscrutability by way of The Rain Parade/Byrdsian school of chiming guitars.

A recent live review in Shindig! (July 2025) noted the “propulsive ride-cymbal-driven drum and bass groove underpins intertwining dual raga-drone guitar lines; when one goes high, the other goes low and vice versa, making for sublime psych-head listening”.

'Dreams Buried Under The Sea' is at times uplifting, often heavily melancholic, and marks a culmination of sorts for Trimdon. Its release on Dom Martin’s Feral Child label also completes a circle, their debut release being a 7” on his previous Great Pop Supplement imprint way back when.

This special edition presents the complete original LP Monk's Dream , which marks Thelonious Monk's first and best- selling LP for Columbia. It features the pianist/ composer performing a combination of his own tunes and favourite standards, in the company of his classic quartet with Charlie Rouse, John Ore and Frankie Dunlop.

Santino Surfers - 'An Introduction' is a combination of the finest tracks from their self-titled debut LP & some choice cuts from the forthcoming album. An amorphous blend of chilled-out, soulful, and melodically lavish material. Imagine twangy 60’s black and white guitars splashed with neon colour and dusty country rock curls in distorted gleam. The ‘surf’ sound is prevalent throughout the work (hence the name), setting the dial at laid back, grooving and liberated moods that probe the frontiers of the psychedelic.

This time he touches more on club aesthetics and dancefloor experiences across three house rituals that speak equally to the head, heart and soul.

Side A taps into a rhythmic spell that hums with nostalgic warmth. Through it all dances a whimsical melodic spirit that's lighthearted but contemplative. Sugary chords fizz and cast a gentle trance that feels classic but ageless. B1 jacks like a Chicago house fever dream while jumbled congas evoke a midnight jungle ritual. Prickly acid pierces the tropical mirage as the air hums with the scent of rain and sweat. B2 features a playful and stripped-down rhythmic rework plus a hidden tool that offers double the fun to get creative DJ juices flowing.

A vivid transmission of body music and inner worlds, 'Dream 4' channels club thoughts into richly textured house incantations for dancefloor escape.

However, this material was not captured on any record at the time.

Finneas and Ashe have been longtime friends and collaborators. Their first co-primary single release, “Till Forever Falls Apart”, came out in 2021, showcasing their dynamic writing & performance ability together. With this new artist project The Favors, Finneas and Ashe came together and decided to make a band, writing music with no real agenda. Once they had a full album finished, they realized they had a really great body of work and wanted to release it under a new artist name.

Their album 'The Dream' is classic and timeless, reminiscent of music from artists like Fleetwood Mac and The Beatles. With this project, Finneas and Ashe are paying tribute to that era of music, which heavily influenced them as artists.

Among the stalwarts of the industry was UK's Studio G, with cues heard on Doctor Who, and sampled by the likes of The Chemical Brothers, and Tyler, the Creator. Jazz Dispensary's Dream a Dream with Studio G: Cratedigger's Archive (1970–2009) culls some of their most sought-after cuts, with liner note commentary from Saint Etienne’s Bob Stanley, and illustrations by Ivan Minsloff.

                                                                                Sunbeam Dream

Cincinnati psych-rockers return with their fourth album and turn the textural synths and spaced-out melodies all the way up to make their most shoegaze-heavy record yet.

In The Pines’ central nervous system is located in The Lodge—an old Masonic temple repurposed as a multi-use space across the river from Cincinnati in Dayton, KY. The group occupy a corner of the basement in this sprawling labyrinth where they run and operate Foleytronics—a boutique vintage pro audio repair shop, and one of a handful of like-minded shops in the world that can operate on and repair vintage digital effects.

A natural byproduct of this shop is their studio in bandmate Peter Foley’s basement, a room full of various vintage effects, tape machines, and synthesizers, where they recorded and produced 'Sunbeam Dream' in its entirety. All of the recording equipment used on 'Sunbeam Dream' was salvaged from certain doom, repaired, and brought back into working order by the band themselves, who went into recording fully aware of (and excited to exploit) the limitations of these devices. Much like the concept of Oulipo in poetry and mathematics, creativity and problem-solving flow from a clear understanding and constant testing of their limits.

The recording process allowed In the Pines to obsess over the minutiae for the first time—entire days spent on finding the correct acoustic guitar sound only to land on a piece of Scotch tape spread across the strings; hours that would be considered a luxury in other studios focused on trying out various cymbal combinations for a chorus or bridge. Just like they did with their repair shop, the band created a recording space where hyperfocus and attention to detail are not only allowed, but fully embraced.

The result of this obsessive level of control is In The Pines' most accomplished work to date. 'Sunbeam Dream' takes the band’s shoegaze-informed psych rock and raises the bar. With a heavier emphasis on synths moving from a textural element to a main character in the band’s sound (courtesy of a 1971 resuscitated Mellotron), the band stakes a claim in the lineage of the grandeur and grit of albums like The Verve’s A Northern Soul or The Charlatans (UK) self-titled album, where both bands’ production seemed to match their creative vision.

With 'Sunbeam Dream', everything feels both brighter, crisper, while at the same time delightfully swimming in a twilight haze that surrounds each element.

                                                                                  TRACK LISTING

The year is 1988. The Second Summer of Love is in full swing, and A Guy Called Gerald was dominating the charts with “Voodoo Ray”, one of the first true house anthems and by far Gerald’s biggest hit. Later that year he dropped another 12” of the same pedigree together with producer team T-Coy featuring the legendary Haçienda resident DJ Mike Pickering: Dream 17. A bit lesser known than AGCG’s smash record, this EP is the perfect blend of the Madchester rave ethos and the early jackin’ sounds coming out of Chicago at the time. Soulful vocals and playful drums coupled with one of the most recognisable 303 basslines ever programmed will transport you to those blissful dancefloors where nothing but the here and now seemed to matter. But make no mistake: this record is as much about celebrating the past as it is about looking to the future, and will remain relevant for many years to come.

                                                                                    Maybe I'm Dreaming

Maybe I’m Dreaming is the latest collection selected by Mikey Young (Total Control, Eddy Current Suppression Ring) and Keith Abrahamsson (Founder and Head of A&R at Anthology Recordings), the mangled minds behind the beloved Follow the Sun, Sad About the Times, and …Still Sad compilations. The twenty tracks of Dreaming make a conscious, and unconscious, detour from its predecessors, sourced entirely from private press releases, spanning new decades and production modes within homespun folk, soft rock, and otherwise 70s and 80s FM radio adjacent music. The magic of Dreaming is the untold story of the artists behind these songs; those who missed the big time, but whose song craft and unrequited care hit the right notes, both high and low.

Where Follow the Sun and Sad About the Times introduced us to the fame chasing, ambition crashing crooners who missed their shot in the mainstream, Dreaming delves deeper into the isolated wilds — a private world where production quirks, late-night tape hiss, and one-man studio dreams were not necessarily a choice but the hand that was dealt. With the parameters set to "private press only,” Young and Abrahamsson follow a circuitous trail of invention and emotion, documenting a spirit that’s more homespun, sometimes lonelier, and often a little weirder. The guitars still strum, but the keyboards’ hum is more prevalent and precious; wistful harmonies brush up against lo-fi drum machines; a bittersweet fog lingering over even the brightest melodies.

As with their previous collaborations, Young and Abrahamsson weren’t interested in constructing a museum or drafting a historical survey. Dreaming is a sentimental mixtape, assembled late at night when the mind wanders and old memories blur with imagined futures, those within reach and those far too mysterious to ever encounter. Songs were unearthed in personal collections, deep YouTube burrows, dilapidated web archives, and the dim corners of Discogs, with many selections tied not only to intuition but to personal connection. Some tracks arrived via friends — Kelley Stoltz, a frequent guide for Young, tipped him off to both Peter Kraemer’s lost gem “Let the Light Slip” and Awakening’s revelatory closer — adding an unseen but deeply felt thread of camaraderie to the compilation.

The journey takes in a wide, strange sweep: The Watson Brothers Band's “Just Whistle” opens the collection with a sigh and a shrug, a song that feels like it’s been waiting for decades to be heard again. Jim Huxley’s “Tessa on a Magazine,” rediscovered after a long and winding search by Young, shimmers with a distinctly Australian melancholia. The heartbreak of Rick Penta's “My Story Changes” and Twice As Nice’s delicate “Thoughts of You” float easily alongside the more buoyant, radio-dream sheen of Barracuda’s Baby “I Love You” and MAK’s sunshine-dappled “That's Life.”

Widening the aperture to the late 70s and early 80s allows for a deeper exploration into evolving production techniques and musical technologies. The Squad’s “D.L.M.H.I.M.A.” and Christoph Spendel Group’s “Forever” crackle with the kind of bedroom synth warmth that could only come from the analog age, while the soulful, yearning undercurrent of Awakening’s “Gotta Do Somethin / Might As Well Cultivate” caps the collection with a call for action — or maybe just acceptance – in an accidental Brian Eno Here Come the Warm Jets parroting.

While Dreaming moves away from the "sad man with guitar" archetype that hovered over its predecessors, it remains tethered to a familiar emotional gravity — a balance of longing and lightness that defines this corner of the musical universe. Each track shuffles gently between resignation and hope, sadness and serenity, as if the artists themselves were chasing a dream just beyond reach, recording not for fame but for the simple act of getting it, that primal, creative itch, out into the world.

The result is a collection that feels both ephemeral and eternal. A flicker caught in amber. A transmission from the other side of the night; a place where the angels and demons mingle, sharing shots and lines with those that enter their parlor. Dreaming is an invitation to drift a little while longer, eyes half-closed, into that liminal space between memory and imagination. Maybe you're dreaming. Maybe you're awake. Maybe it doesn’t matter.

A proper melting pot of influence, brought together with clear respect for the source material, and a deep field of knowledge.

Occasionally, you find music outside the commercial mainstream, outside of everything – the music of visionaries, eccentrics, inventors, loners. Moondog, Daphne Oram, Harry Partch are from this mould. And so too is Lori Vambe. Strut present a new single vinyl reissue of Vambe’s sought-after privately pressed album from 1982, 'Drumland Dreamland'. A self-taught drummer, inventor, and sonic experimentalist, Vambe holds a unique place in British music. The creator of his own instrument, the drumgita (pronounced ‘drumguitar’) or string-drum, he aimed to create music that had never been previously made to pursue access to the fourth dimension and forge a radical new musical language - intuitive, polyrhythmic and metaphysical. 'Drumland Dreamland' is deep and haunting; a dense tapestry of layered percussion, time-warped tape loops, and spiralling drumgita figures, a l underpinned by hypnotic improvisations from Brazilian pianist Rafael Dos Santos. It is both ecstatic and unsettling, a landmark recording in black British experimental music.

Lori Vambe was born in Harare, Zimbabwe and his father, Lawrence Vambe, was a noted Zimbabwean journalist and author. Moving to London in 1959, Vambe immersed himself in the Brixton squat movement of the early 1970s, teaching himself to drum and creating a short-lived performance group, The Healing Drums of Brixton (with sculptor Alexander Sokolov and outsider musician Michael O’Shea). Vambe later had a dream-vision involving a feeling of ecstasy while playing an unknown instrument that extended from his own umbilical cord which would manifest itself as the drumgita. 'Drumland Dreamland' is one of his two privately produced home recordings during 1982 alongside Drumgita Solo, both released on his own label Drumony.

'Drumland Dreamland' has been faithfully reproduced from the original artwork as a single vinyl LP and is remastered by The Carvery.

Best known for his visionary fusion of groove, psychedelia, and visual art - Kutiman crafts a hypnotic journey here: jazzy guitars, double bass, analogue keys, and otherworldly manipulated vocals flow through lush, panoramic arrangements that recall Khruangbin, El Michels Affair, SAULT, and BADBADNOTGOOD.

This strictly limited one- off pressing comes on deep purple coloured vinyl with a hallucinogenic full- colour sleeve designed by Berlin- based artist Philipp Carbotta. Meticulously mixed by longtime collaborator Obas Nenor, it's a bold yet meditative listen - equally suited for audiophile immersion or chilled late-night sessions.

Fleetwood Mac have had a chart-topping career that spans over fifty years and includes some of the biggest-selling albums and greatest hits of the 20th and 21st centuries. But the band's story is one of enormous triumph and also unimaginable tragedy. There has never been a band in the history of music riven with as much romantic drama, sexual tension and incredible highs and lows as Fleetwood Mac.

Dreams is a must-read for casual Fleetwood Mac fans and die-hard devotees alike. In this unique collection of mini-biographies, observations and essays, Mark Blake explores all eras of the Fleetwood Mac story to explore what it is that has made them one of the most successful bands in history. Blake draws on his own exclusive interviews with Mick Fleetwood, Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham and the late Peter Green and Christine McVie, and addresses the complex human drama at the heart of the Fleetwood Mac story, including the complicated relationships between the band's main members, but he also dives deep into the towering discography that the band have built over the past half-century.

                                                                                            4:32AM

                                                                                            Speaking In Silence EP

Dream Flight Records is back for another take off and journey into deep and tech minimal. Both of these sounds are late-night live jams recorded at Crystal Palace Studios, formerly home to Palace Vinyl, now a welcome part of the Brixton landscape and the evidenly aptly named 4:32AM have previously recorded on their label (Palace Trax) as well as the OOZ label. The A-side, 'Italia,' is a tight, bouncy tribute to classic Italo house brimming with energy and emotional warmth and on the flip is a deeper, more hypnotic groove elevated by a spontaneous vocal performance from rising star Lee Banton. 'Speaking In Silence' is subtle, smeared with synth colour and slow burning, an after-party classic in the making.

                                                                                            TRACK LISTING

This is the first part (of four) of the much anticipated reissue series of Drexciya’s early catalogue, marking 20 years since the release of their first EP ‘Deep Sea Dweller’, and 10 years since their final album ‘Grava 4’. One of the most influential techno-electro acts ever, and part of the heritage of Detroit's Underground Resistance, Drexciya explored techno like no-one else before; raw and uncompromising music that reflected the harsh environment of the city where Drexciya was conceived, with a mythical approach that only added to their cult appeal. Drexciya arguably stands for the darker side of techno and electro, made not only for the club scene, but a further development of the music as an expression and extension of the mind. ‘Journey Of The Deep Sea Dweller' is a near-complete collection of their early works, released in four parts, with all audio remastered from the original master tapes. Since the original releases have such a strong character and stand on their own, these reissue can never recreate the magic of those originals. Instead, Clone have stirred up the catalogue, taking tracks out of their original context, giving the committed fan a fresh experience and the new listener a document that is the best possible introduction to the aquatic world of Drexciya.

On their 2023 album 'All Around You', the Singaporean five-piece refined their signature snappy hooks with a renewed appreciation for the natural world’s entanglement with their urban milieu. Ever enraptured by nature and their surroundings, Subsonic Eye have dedicated much of their music to celebrations of their environment. Their fifth album, 'Singapore Dreaming', centers their hometown through a more focused lens. 'Where All Around You' comprised a space to sit with the complex feelings inspired by the intense world we inhabit, 'Singapore Dreaming' is that intense world itself — Subsonic Eye’s interpretation of their high energy urban context refracted through straight-to-the-point, poppy, ergonomic songs tinged with tension that could explode at a moment’s notice. Despite the newly honed vision, 'Singapore Dreaming' still has all of Subsonic Eye’s signature elements: spellbinding walls of tone, hooky riffs, zippy rhythms, and punches in the perfect place — all led by singer Nur Wahidah’s dreamlike voice, whose vaporous and velvety character always makes the layers whole.

Danish Subnesia present their debut vinyl release, combining tracks from their first Album 'The Beginning' (2023) & 'Range of Colors' (2025) assembling a sincere set of homespun pop beats teeming with Balearic soul, funk and jazz flavors. As Subnesia, producer Anders Ponsaing and saxophonist Michael Rune play it by ear. Following intuition rather than fixed genres or styles, the Danish duo have struck upon a creative vein of pop music that is both daring, poignant and wholly unpretentious. Strong grooves, often reminiscent of the hip-hop and r’n’b-tinged chart pop of the 2000’s, adorned with colorful instrumental leads and characteristic guest vocals.

                                                                                                  8. Luvia En Punta Galera

Known for her delicate, subtly psychedelic approach to production - all subtlety is thrown out of the window on the opener, “Parents and God”. We are immediately confronted with a slamming Chicago house style beat in style of Mr Fingers at his most utilitarian. It slams, jerking in and out of tempo like Ron Hardy in beast mode.

Out of nowhere a soulful church organ arrives - at first for a brief respite - but then for an extended solo, which gives way to an 80s electro style breakdown before reverting back to form. It shouldn’t work, but somehow it does - to a dizzying extent - and heirin lies Mayurashka’s magic: a blatant disregard for norms and a deft touch that makes the unorthodox so compelling.

“Notango" takes another big left turn - sitting somewhere between tribal seance and rain dance, it’s mostly organic drums and otherworldly sound effects that combine to drag us deeper into the wormhole before “ Vat Murmur” takes us back into the light with its uptempo disco energy and giving way to heavy chugging bass. This one is equally for fans of idjut boys and Larry Levan.

The EP rounds off with the title track “ LSI dreaming” - to try and describe it is almost impossible, but let’s say it starts of with a mid 2000s Perlon-era tech house energy before things quickly escalate beyond all recognition and then just hover with lysergic intensity. If I ever closed panorama bar, this is the track I’d end with.

'Dream Horizons' is an instructive title - Wang approached her new album as a collection of different dream scenarios, with all the creative freedom the concept implies. From oceanic calm to artful propulsion, she was free to shift gears from track to track while relishing the strange and beautiful atmospheres her inspiration pointed towards. A multi-instrumentalist as well as a producer, Wang recorded her own voice, saxophone, flute, violin and percussion to inject organic, human vibrancy into the surreal spaces she was shaping out, capturing the uncanny sensation of alien and familiar that hangs over the places we visit when we sleep.

There are pointedly direct techno workouts on the album, from deft beatdown 'Soul Reflections' to shimmering ear worm 'Set Me Free', and 'Twisted Colours' relishes shifting blocks of flute around a sprightly, footwork-tickled framework. Elsewhere, there's space for softer expressions on pearlescent opus 'Crystal Valley' while elastic rhythms and tactile textures slither around at a lower tempo on 'Flakes Flying Upwards'. In between, Wang plays with fractured beat patterns and sharply sculpted sonic matter with a staggering level of detail and intention. 'Gate To Amygdala' is the perfect example of the bold scope of her expression - the midpoint track thrives on nervous tension and a dislocated sense of momentum without anything like a conventional techno trope. 'Mindfunk' equally pushes and pulls at sensory perception with an off-kilter, awkwardly looped synth phrase that relishes the opportunity to skew dance music conventions within the flexible rules of the dream world.

For all the smart production and knowingly experimental approaches that form the basis of the album's sound, it's also a record charged with the full range of emotions you might expect to experience on a break away from consciousness. Whether it's the melancholic impressions that smudge into incidental pauses on 'Metaphysical Scribbles' or the mantra-like breath and sax combination of 'Essential Breath' that closes the record, Polygonia's heart bursts out of the album's vibrant form as brilliantly as her exacting, studio-synced mind.

                                                                                                  TRACK LISTING

                                                                                                  Smooth Co-operator / Dream Alchemy

Deep within the Co-op laboratory, a timeless classic was lifted from the ether and reborn under the alchemists’ touch. "Smooth Co-Operator" takes the silk and smoke of Sade’s iconic Smooth Operator and fuses it with the pulse of an uptempo soulful house rhythm. Sprinkled with the magic dust of hip-hop and funk samples, the track moves effortlessly—grooving on a smooth, rolling bassline, locked into a four-to-the-floor heartbeat. The result? A dance where elegance meets momentum, where the past is reimagined for the now. Let yourself be carried away— this is RnB soul jazz, remixed for the future.

Summoned from the realm of dreams, "Dream Alchemy" is a hypnotic, Kubrickian voyage through sound and shadow. Co-op bends time, doubling the original tempo into a driving force of tech-house vibes. J Diggns layers ethereal, cascading keys—melodies that flicker like lucid visions—while Whiskey Drop layers in A$AP Rocky and grounds the experience with a deep, rolling bassline that pulses from the underground. The groove is relentless, the atmosphere cinematic. Step inside—The dream and the Sandman await.

                                                                                                  Thinking, Dreaming, Scheming

Carrying on the long tradition of sentimental jangle pop songwriters, Lightheaded distil decades of lovelorn tunes into sounds for modern softies. They have the sunshine sparkle of The Left Banke and Margo Guryan, the C86 charm of Dolly Mixture and Would-Be-Goods, and the cinematic swell of Belle & Sebastian and Camera Obscura.

Formed on the shore of New Jersey in 2017 by Cynthia Rittenbach and Stephen Stec, Lightheaded took time to hone their sound with a rotating crew of drummers, guitarists and backup vocalists. They found a community of like-minded bands in a vast but tight-knit international indie pop scene, which eventually led them to the iconic California label Slumberland Records. Their debut cassette EP 'Good Good Great!', a collection of five perfect pop songs, landed in 2023, followed by the full-length 'Combustible Gems' in 2024. A European tour and gigs opening for bands like Heavenly, The Softies and The Ladybug Transistor rounded out their breakout year.

The band signed to Skep Wax Records for 'Thinking Dreaming Scheming', their most collaborative and earnest release to date. A slate of five brand new songs is combined with the five tracks from 'Good Good Great!', now available on vinyl for the first time. Recorded bi-coastally with Gary Olson (The Ladybug Transistor) and Alicia Vanden Heuvel (The Aislers Set, Poundsign) and drenched in lush reverb on tape by Fred Thomas (Saturday Looks Good to Me), the new songs are rendered in a dreamy soft focus that perfectly suits their starry-eyed themes. Adding to all the fun are the cameos and contributions from the new generation of New York indie pop goodness, featuring members of Starcleaner Reunion and Trinket, pushing the songs on this record to a high point in the young band's discography.

                                                                                                    Dreamwalker

Montreal’s fever dream pop duo, Sorry Girls, returns with their third album 'Dreamwalker' out via Arbutus Records. Their eccentric blend of nostalgic 70s power ballads and 80s kitsch breaks through new thresholds, dismantling futile illusions to brave the cold and ask what lies ahead.

Since forming in 2015, Heather Foster Kirkpatrick and Dylan Konrad Obront have been creating their own brand of lush pleasure seeking synth-pop. With a knack for matching personal lyrics with an off-kilter sound, their Lynchian world is free and uncanny. Everything seems familiar, a tune lapping an old dreamscape, and yet something is slightly off.

The band debuted in 2019 with the self-produced 'Deborah', earning praise from Pitchfork and Gorilla vs Bear. Their 2023 spirited sophomore album, 'Bravo!', showcased a more live-band sound. With headlining shows at festivals like Pop Montreal, SXSW, and the Red Bull Music Festival, and tours with artists like TOPS, Devon Welsh (Majical Cloudz), and Sean Nicholas Savage, they've honed their organic approach to music.

Inspired by Fleetwood Mac’s Tusk era, the band set up camp at Montreal’s Two Sisters Recording Studio for several months to make 'Dreamwalker'. Imposing a working time constraint, their aim was more band collaboration, and quick and decisive artistic decisions to stay as true as possible to the music.

The result is a sound that is earnest, emotional and lucid. Washy production techniques and punchy bass lines pair with softer whimsical piano trills and gentle drums, recreating the thematic push-pull between two-worlds. The lyricism toys with Idyllic visions of love objects, fantasies of future utopias, and the obsessive longing for an ease and newness to sweep in.

'Dreamwalker' is self-aware and ironically self-effacing, trapped in the reflection of a window. The album calls for boldness—to slide open the handles and step into the unknown.

The album marks the first album featuring the iconic lineup of vocalist James LaBrie, guitarist John Petrucci, bassist John Myung, keyboardist Jordan Rudess and drummer Mike Portnoy since 2009’s Black Clouds & Silver Linings'. 'Parasomnia' was produced by Petrucci, engineered by James ‘Jimmy T’ Meslin, and mixed by Andy Sneap. Hugh Syme returns once again to lend his creative vision to the cover art. From the opening track 'In The Arms Of Morpheus' to the closer of 'The Shadow Man Incident', Dream Theater returns with a collection of songs that showcase what has earned the band a loyal following for four decades. Clocking in at 71 minutes, 'Parasomnia' takes the listener on a musical journey that has become synonymous with the band since the beginning of their career

Wah Wah 45s are very proud to present the debut LP from an exciting, brand new signing for 2025. The music of Isaac de Martin, otherwise known as IKE, blends jazz and electronic influences into warm, smooth, and often cinematic soundscapes. A certain eclecticism is not surprising considering that the composer, producer and guitarist was born in Italy into a musical family with British roots, studied classical guitar, graduated in jazz and went on to develop his personal style through creative experimentation, live touring and collaborative work with artists from a variety of disciplines and countries.

Under the shadow of the pandemic, IKE headed to Egypt, a country that has always held a deep fascination for him. Finding sanctuary between teaching at Cairo's Heliopolis University and observing the progress of an ecological development community, the creative foundation of IKE's forthcoming LP, entitled On Higher Dreams began to take form.

Music holds a revered position in Egyptian culture; it has done so for countless generations. With a western eye, some can be guilty of seeing music solely through the lens of entertainment. In Egypt, music holds its more natural position, as an essential and supportive accompaniment to the human experience. In Egyptian universities, faculty meetings often commence with live concerts, setting the correct tone and environment for the discussions to follow. IKE was invited to perform in this setting, and this approach to music, as well as the philosophy that underpins it, was keenly absorbed.

In western culture, all too often we bear the contrast of living with a physical and social connection, freedom and expression against one with isolation, restriction and fear. For IKE, Egypt displayed another stark contrast; one which formed the thematic centre of On Higher Dreams.

It is water that dictates the pulse of life in Egypt, with the Nile Delta standing as a lush, nourishing testament to the transformative power of the element, when set against the backdrop of the arid landscape it carves its ways through. There is a deep connection between the people of Egypt and this life-giving force. This album is an ode to this fundamental relationship.

Upon returning to Europe, IKE spent a year digesting, interpreting, understanding and refining the spirit of the work, before setting about recording in 2022 at Big Snuff Studios, Berlin. The all-analog setup that was available allowed IKE to integrate the warmth of '60s and '70s recordings, creating an atmospheric bed on which contemporary synths could lie. A live studio environment was consciously selected to preserve the raw, honest emotion of the performances.

Tracks like Nilo capture the lifeblood of Egypt—the Nile—while Sidda navigates the journey down the Blue Nile to its source at Lake Tana in Ethiopia, paying tribute to Ethiopian traditional music. Risorgini is a homage to Italian film composer Giuliano Sorgini, blending experimental and Afro elements into a resuscitation of his musical approach.

The album's overall vintage yet dynamic atmosphere, reinforces the themes of nature and existential flow. It is this that perhaps most prominently shines through on the record. It invites listeners to open themselves to the ebb and flow of life, encouraging a spontaneous, heartfelt engagement with the world in the spirit of acceptance and serenity. IKE's journey through Egypt serves as both a narrative and a metaphor for this liberating approach to life—where, like the water of the Nile, we find our own paths naturally, beautifully, inevitably to reach Higher Dreams.

Darren and Lewis formed the band as an alternative to drinking in the park, and were soon joined by Scott ‘Paws’ Williamson (keys/vocals). They developed a local following due to their riotous gigs ten miles west in PJ Molly’s in Dunfermline before the inimitable Alan McGee (Oasis, Primal Scream, Teenage Fanclub and many more) helped to take them to the next level.

Fly Anakin is a rapper and producer who approaches his craft in a way few contemporaries can.

Vigilant yet unorthodox, DIY-minded yet prolific, the Richmond, Virginia multihyphenate's razor-sharp lyrics, ear for soulful production, and collaborative synergy are the result of over a decade of fundamental mastery. Described by Madlib as "one of the illest MCs," the Mutant Academy cofounder was in his pocket well ahead of his acclaimed solo debut, Frank (2022). After years of consistent releases with his collective, Anakin broke major ground in 2020 with his and Pink Siifu's joint project FlySiifu's, followed by their $mokebreak EP in 2021. A student of the East Coast's golden age, Anakin transmutes its spirit into music that's both classicist and pioneering, having worked with the likes of Freddie Gibbs, redveil, BbyMutha, and MAVI. With the release of a Mutant Academy debut album completed, and his solo album (The) Forever Dream imminent, Anakin has cemented his place as a leader in rap's underground Renaissance.

(The) Forever Dream commemorates a new era of freedom for Anakin, who rarely approaches bodies of work without a preconceived concept. Executive produced by Quelle Chris, the project, which features the likes of Denmark Vessey, The Alchemist, BbyMutha, and Pink Siifu, includes songs that Anakin believes are some of his most experimental and ambitious. "The album is me and Quelle kicking it, smoking, learning each other, and playing video games," he says of the project's inspiration and recording process. "It was time to make some mindless music, to tackle production I would've otherwise picked up." The long anticipated project comes after years of Anakin and Quelle developing a strong rapport, stemming back to 2019. "Quelle is one of the best collaborators ever--he's not biased but he knows what he likes, open minded but stubborn at the right times," Anakin says of his collaborative relationship with the Grammy nominated producer. "On the low we just alike but polar opposites, we can do no wrong together."

Born Frank L. Walton, Jr., Fly Anakin grew up in Richmond's Hillside Court projects and describes his upbringing as equal parts "peaceful and chaotic." Anakin came up on a rich diet of cartoons and the music of prolific MCs, and cites his older brother, a rapper, as his biggest musical influence. "I saw what he did as wizardry," Anakin, who has always been propelled by keen imagination and a sense of curiosity, remembers. "So I started writing, by the age of 13 I was recording music." In 2010, Anakin and Henny L.O. started Mutant Academy, which has since grown to include Big Kahuna OG, Ohbliv, Ewonee, and Foisey among its ranks. Anakin's collective, which makes a nod to the X-Men franchise, was formed as a vessel for his creatively gifted friends to join forces. "Everybody around us was making videos, making beats or rapping, and we picked up the people we stuck with the most," he says of its formation. "We're literally like a family now." Since then, Anakin has released over a dozen collaborative projects with Mutant Academy members, with Open House (2014), Backyard Boogie (2018), At the End of the Day (2020), Skinemaxxxsides A and B(2023)as notable standouts. Teaming up with PinkSiifu during the COVID-19 pandemic, projects FlySiifu's (2020) and $mokebreak (2021) marked a turning point for Anakin. Beyond consistently producing for Mutant Academy, his innovative, sample-averse approach began to push forward artists like BbyMutha and Monday Night. That traction led to the critical reception of the Lex signee's solo debut Frank (2022), which earned him recognition as "the best pure rapper in the scene" by Pitchfork. "That album was my baby and I neglected it for so long because of what was happening in the world," Anakin says of the album, which receivedseveral Album of the Year accolades. "I never asked for that one to be the one, but it's the one."

Now, for the first time ever, that unforgettable night is being released, captured on a limited-edition gold-coated double vinyl to mark 35 years since Club Classics Vol. 1 changed the game. With Charlotte Kelly and Nadine Ceaser delivering powerhouse vocals and a sold-out crowd locked into every beat, this live recording oozes that signature Funki Dreds energy.

From the first note to the last, it’s a journey through deep rhythms, smooth harmonies, and the unmistakable sound that made Soul II Soul legends. Jazzie B sums it up best: "Every so often when we get together to perform there’s a surge of positive energy backstage that can transcend from us to the audience and back to the stage. The show at the roundhouse in 2022 was one of those incredible moments.Enjoy with a happy face and thumping bass."

Distraction, depression, and heartbreak reign supreme in 2025. “Making art in this day and age for me is a battle for focus; we’re in an age of interruption,” says Garbus of Tune-Yards’ sixth album 'Better Dreaming'. Proudly waving an anti-fascist, liberation, freak flag, Better Dreaming contains some of Tune-Yards smoothest, funkiest, and most direct pop music to date, and yes, you can dance to it. And when you do dance to it, be prepared to sweat out something that’s been long stuck inside, and pretty deep down.

The songs of 'Better Dreaming' came to Garbus and Brenner with unusual ease. They asked themselves what would happen if they simply let the songs come out, following any trail they wished - first thought, best thought style. There was a strong desire to move, to make music that would enter the ear and immediately loosen up the joints, get the whole body wiggling. After covid-isolation, and time away from touring and live shows, the desire to be moved by music was undeniable. The insane experience of growing an actual human being influenced this as well.

The rhythms throughout the record carry a certain freshness, with deep pockets full of subtle idiosyncrasies that stem from Tune-Yards’ return to making an album primarily as a duo. All but one of these songs are built around Garbus’ drum looping and rhythm building, as they were on some of the early albums like 'Bird-Brains' and 'W H O K I L L' – no full kit drummer here, and the songs love it.

'Better Dreaming' is ferocious in its invocation of self-love, of collective action, of dance floor liberation, ego-death deliverance, and a future we could all thrive in. When diving into the present darkness of the world, Tune-Yards asks themselves how much literal energy and joy can be conjured and pumped through the music. In its life-affirming art-pop of the apocalypse, 'Better Dreaming' comes true

The album showcases a blend of spiritual and free jazz elements characteristic of Sanders’ style, complemented by Connors’ dynamic drumming. A reviewer from Dusty Groove described it as “a dream of a record from this legendary spiritual jazz duo.”

This rousing greeting doubles as a mission statement for the project. What began as a solo endeavour by the then Cornwall-based multi-instrumentalist and producer has grown into a six-member ensemble, each artist deeply rooted in London’s grassroots music scene. On 'Godspeed', for the first time, each band member contributes individually, but Woods’ songwriting and resonant baritone remain at the core — an anchor welcoming listeners into the fold.

The city plays its part here. A very close ear will pick up London’s cranky ambience, recorded on a handheld recorder by synth player Davy Roderick, then woven into the songs. And where the previous The Golden Dregs record, 'On Grace & Dignity' (4AD), held up a light to and lamented a certain kind of rural experience, Godspeed turns the contrast up three or four notches above its predecessor, feeling cut through with the spirit of the city because of it. The highs are higher: a wall of sound soars more and more euphorically on penultimate track, 'The Wave'. The lows are lower: “I think I’ve had enough to last a lifetime” announces the chorus on 'The Weight of it All', a beautifully devastating homage to irreparable situations, sung by Issie Armstrong.

“People have inspired this record. To be in a densely crowded space, surrounded by strangers, and to think for a moment how every person is living out their own stories, figuring out loss and love and frustration and all the things that make up the human experience - I find that so curious. It’s a deeply personal record, but I like to think that it is personal with open arms, an experience to be shared.”

Indeed, The Golden Dregs’ songs have always been less about telling individual stories and more about narrative vignettes, snippets of images that leave the listener guessing. And although 'Godspeed' has a clear sense of character — “I came here to drink on my own, I don’t see the problem” (Heron) eerie synthesisers abounding; “maybe it’s time I was taken out to pasture / since lately I’ve been getting it wrong” ('The Company of Strangers') — this is not introspective music. It looks beyond its author and his immediate situation to something more collective.

While it continues the sonic signatures of the previous records from The Golden Dregs, Godspeed is more immediate. The hooks are constant — hear 'Perfume', 'The Company of Strangers', Stranglers-esque cut 'If You’d Seen Him' — but rarely resort to familiar tropes, leaving room for unpredictable turns. This assuredness is given further weight by the fact that Woods own label Joy of Life International, an imprint of and collaboration with End of the Road Records will release the album: a statement of independence and creative intent.

Originating from Washington DC, the band rose to prominence in the mid-to-late 70's, releasing a debut album on Mercury Records, which Wayne Henderson of The Crusaders produced. Notice to collectors and diggers; this takes the two killer tracks from the album nicely replicating the 1979 original 45, which would set you back over £100.On the A-side, 'Hollywood Dreaming’, is a laidback revivalist soulful groover that will undoubtedly give your hips and shoulders a shuffle. On the flip, feel the funk with ‘Shine On’. A commanding slap bassline runs throughout the track with harmonised vocals and stabbing horns. Lace them up people, it's time to cut some rug!

Mike Gordon's debut album as Mk.Gee, 'Two Star & the Dream Police', is a groundbreaking fusion of pop, rock, and soul. Hailing from New Jersey, the 26-year-old musician redefines familiar genres with his unique approach to sound, incorporating unconventional tones, tempos, and textures. His distorted guitar riffs and soulful vocals, reminiscent of Prince, cut through murky, experimental mixes, creating a captivating sonic landscape that refuses to conform to traditional boundaries.

Despite his experimental tendencies, Gordon demonstrates a mastery of melody, crafting intricate and engaging pop songs from seemingly chaotic compositions. 'Two Star' is both innovative and accessible, offering a fresh take on contemporary music while retaining a timeless quality.

Written in a period of significant life change – namely, a move back to his native Toledo – 'To Dream Of Something Wicked' and Mat Kerekes altering his unflinchingly honest songwriting through the lens of bittersweet nostalgia. The familiar locale of his hometown helped him settle back into a place of comfort, inviting some trusted voices into the process: Kerekes’ uncle added guitar, bass and melodica, while his brother Chris was a key songwriting partner. While 2023’s 'You Look Like A Stranger' took a more maximalist, production-rich approach, 'Something Wicked' strips back Kerekes’ craft to its bare essentials, elevating the visceral emotions at the heart of his songwriting.

The full-circle process ultimately leaves 'Something Wicked' as an intimate scrapbook of memories from Kerekes’ own life and those of his loved ones, with dynamic pacing and whimsical instrumentation swirling to create a thematic portrait of an artist at a crossroads, exploring the introspection and reflection of a life lived and the uncertainty of what lies ahead.

His new project, Visti’s Vinyl Collective, extends the musical ethos of his radio program into a creative force of its own. Gathering some of the finest talent on the Danish jazz scene – and inviting a small selection of international guest features – Visti has crafted an album of manifold styles but a singular ethos: warm, positive, colorful music for a world that could use it.

Sisters Mary and Betty Weiss, together with twins Mary Ann and Marguerite Ganser, were schoolgirls when they formed the Shangri- Las in 1963, and had a meteoric rise to fame with songs like 'Leader of the Pack' and 'Remember (Walking in the Sand).' Their career was cut short for reasons largely beyond their control, derailed by the machinations of Mafia-linked record executives, and heartbreak and tragedy followed. Historian Lisa MacKinney marshals an impressive array of new evidence to tell the Shangri-Las' story, dispelling many myths and long-standing mysteries along the way. Equally importantly, Dressed in Black radically rewrites the accepted narrative of the Shangri-Las' place in rock history. As young women, they were permitted little agency within a male-dominated industry that viewed teenagers as fodder to be manipulated and exploited by producers, songwriters, and label owners. This has long served as an excuse for critics to deny the musical input of the group members, to trivialize the Shangri-Las as a 'girl group,' and to assign their work a lesser rank in the canon of 'authentic' rock and roll. MacKinney's achievement here is to foreground the Shangri-Las' considerable abilities, and establish the centrality of their performance of their songs to the group's underappreciated artistic achievement. This is not to deny the critical role in the group's success of the legendary writer/producer George 'Shadow' Morton, but MacKinney's clear-sighted account reveals Morton as part of a complex ecosystem of musical relationships. He crafted highly emotional material specifically for the Shangri-Las because he knew they had the skills to make his mini-operas both believable and enthralling. The group members channeled personal anguish into their extraordinary performances, which are central to the songs' impact-no less so than for such classic singers as Ella Fitzgerald and Elvis Presley, who also relied on producers and songwriters for their material. The Shangri-Las' impassioned delivery elicited a massive response from their audience of fellow teenagers at the time and has continued to connect profoundly with audiences ever since. MacKinney backs up these arguments with in-depth analysis of key recordings, and makes a powerful case that their achievements warrant a far more prominent place for the Shangri-Las in the history of popular music.

A kaleidoscopic collection of 10 songs spanning dark but danceable guitar pop, euphoric electro and low-fi introspective ballads. Lyrics explore themes of self-identity and the notion of truth in a bewildering world where our lives are lived increasingly online. A collection of abstract visions that question reality, celebrate love and long for connection. The Slow Readers Club announce the release of their upcoming seventh album, Out Of A Dream following a run of largely sold-out UK & Ireland Tour dates at the tail end of this year.

Gritty distorted chords and brittle, paddling guitar arpeggios swarm around beneath the haunting, otherworldly vocals. Beautifully produced too, a pop-indie triumph.

On the surface, the hazy indie that this North London four-piece command seems a million miles from anything that might prompt sleepless nights, but it’s the slowly creeping scares that leave the deepest impression. Through their smog and psych, frontman Felix Bushe’s lyricism draws upon the darkest corners of both the supernatural and the more grounded. Breakthrough track ‘Fill My Gums With Blood’, for example, is a tale of “a little boy vampire who falls for a girl” whilst ‘Powder’’s instrumentation melts around a wistful ponderingon death.

“The fantastical side of the world is more exciting to me than the mundane,” he explains. He cites early exposure to Lou Reed and David Bowie and their respective constructions of alternate worlds within their lyrics as a huge turning point - “that was the point that I realised there was more than just writing about smoking cigarettes and drinking beers,” he smiles. David Lynch and Terry Gilliam are also confessed as influences on their cinematic take on indie pop. Those musical backdrops are building a legacy of their own too, with guitarist John Victor already being framed alongside greats of the instrument like Jonny Greenwood and Graham Coxon. Indeed, it was John who solidified these school-friends’ ambition with his effortless, virtuoso guitar-work, though it was perhaps more accidental a pairing than it might seem. John studied jazz bass at university, and only metthe rest of the band when playing bass in function bands – his guitar technique is entirely self-taught. With NME declaring his on-stagephysique “octopus-like”, there’s clearly something of that aforementioned otherworldliness seeping into the members themselves, as well as their effortless talents.

Drifting between propulsive electronica and hallucinatory rock songs, Powers’ singular voice always glows front and center as the neon road sign pointing home.

Though there are pieces (like the spellbinding 'Football') that are more straight-up country rock and roll, every piece here is festooned with the sort of dreamy weirdness that make Youth Lagoon's sound so uniquely theirs.

What began as four guys singing together for fun after basketball practice in Portland, took until early 1977 to realise as actual recordings – and that lone tape of four original songs lay unreleased until 2020. From that set we've pulled a bright and lively gem ripe for plays on the Modern Soul scene, backed with stunning, polished slow-jam.

Over three studio albums and nearly a decade, Wirral-born Louisa Roach has built She Drew The Gun into a project that fully lives up to its incendiary name. Her 2016 debut ‘Memories of Another Future’ was swiftly followed by a crowning as Glastonbury Festival’s Emerging Talent Competition winner; follow-up ‘Revolution of Mind’ was named one of BBC 6 Music’s Albums of the Year, while 2021’s ‘Behave Myself’ saw Clash praising the record as “some of her most finessed and contoured songwriting to date”. Having firmly carved out her niche of rousing, laser-sharp social commentary, it’s a side to Roach’s songwriting that will never leave her (not in this political climate at least). But sometimes, life sends you to a place where you have to finally turn your eye on yourself, and it’s with this in mind that She Drew The Gun presents fourth album ‘Howl’, out via Submarine Cat Records.

Recorded alongside producer Ash Workman (Christine & The Queens, Metronomy) who helped bring the tracks’ pop side to life during sessions at his Margate studio, Louisa Roach also worked with her son Cole on ‘Howl’’s demos: the beginning of a familial working relationship that they’ve already shaken hands on to continue. It’s a heartwarming note in an album story that’s been far from plain sailing. Roach doesn’t claim to be ‘healed’ (if such a thing exists), but as she prepares to release She Drew The Gun’s impressively vulnerable fourth, she’s somewhere along the journey with a document that shows just how far she’s come.

It's this meticulous management of the output of the label that means that there are no wrong moves when it comes to giving something you've not heard of a bash. If you've followed Pure Life's output then you'll know that Kuroi Ame is a collaborative endeavour between Panta Rhei and CMD094, both brilliant artists in their own right and co-owners of Pure Life Records, if you don't know that then that's ok too.

Anyway, what's on the cards? Well, we've got all sorts of throbbing dystopian soundscapery and shimmering neon-tinged grooves that are both machinated and strangely organic, sounds slowly seep out of the propulsive backdrop and become major players in the wall of dreamlike bliss that envelops you. There are flickering, glitched arpeggios and vocal shards, synergising perfectly and organically drifting in and out of sync with the insistent, dancefloor percussion. Endlessly hypnotic, dreamlike bliss that's both perfectly produced and seamlessly integrated with the label's faultless aesthetic. A superb listen, and a perfect fusion of dreamy futurism and chiseled, danceable electronica.
