Hardrive Presents Hardwired

Terror Danjah presents ‘Hardwired’, a showcase and a statement of intent for his Hardrive label in 2013 and beyond. Hardrive was originally built back in 2007 to mentor young MC talents that went onto mainstream stardom like Wretch 32, Chipmunk, P Money and more. The label reformed back in 2010 to provide an outlet for the emerging production talents of D.O.K, Champion and P Jam. ‘Hardwired’ highlights their best material so far, tracks that have been getting battered at the legendary collaboration club night they put together with Butterz in London at Cable. The focus on the club runs throughout, opening with a previously unavailable version of Terror Danjah's 'Full Attention' which was a summer radio smash back in 2011. Champion has gone from strength to strength since debuting with the 'Motherboard EP' back in 2011, with 'Crystal Meth' on Butterz and three releases on his own Formula label, including the anthem 'Lighter'. With a release on Shy FX's Digital Soundboy around the corner, a lot of new ears will pick up on his signature style in the next few months. D.O.K has released two singles on Hyperdub and has been producing for the emerging young MC talent in the grime scene. ‘Hardwired’ offers a rare opportunity for solo D.O.K material to be let out of his possession, as he notoriously retains most of his music for his DJ sets. P Jam released the 'Anger Management EP' on Hardrive and 'Arizona Skyz' is one of the highlights of the album, which also featured on Elijah & Skilliam’s ‘Rinse 17’ compilation. Along with his crew, Terror has brought in a host of top talent to share the disc with. Falty DL, Bok Bok and Royal-T contribute fresh remixes to the Hardrive catalogue. A surprise inclusion is a rare collaborative effort between Zed Bias and Terror Danjah, 'Iceberg History', which was premiered by Benji B and has been sought after ever since. Kode 9’s 'Ice' another rare treat for the enthusiasts. Swindle provides ‘Funktion’, linking back up with Terror Danjah for the first time since he remixed him on Planet Mu. Joker and Terror’s collaboration 'Gully Goon Estate' also features, throwing back to a time when grime and dubstep were as closely sonically linked as ever.

Hardrive is a brand new label launched by grime legend Terror Danjah, kicking off with three tracks from his long time collaborator, the ever elusive DOK. Choosing to only emerge with Terror in the past year with joint efforts on Hyperdub ("Hysteria", "Pro Plus"), Planet Mu ("Code Morse") and Butterz ("Sidechain Remix"), DOK finally breaks out for his first solo recordings since writing classics for the After Shock label. Only to be found on this 12”, "Missing Step" is a dramatic reworking of a longtime club vocal anthem (EBTG's "Missing"), which sits at that perfect point between skippy grime and dubstep wobble. "Golden Axe" is a salutation to the Sega Mega Drive classic computer game, in which DOK gives his old skool presets a 2010 work out, including his signitature laughter effect, which will be familar to anyone who loved the classic Sidewinder tape packs. On closing track "Slip Stream", the obvious comparisons are with Joker, Guido and Gemmy’s Bristolian synth work-outs, but it retains that pirate radio style gritty edge which grime MCs eat up, and people demand reloads for in raves across the country.
