Calexico And Iron & Wine

In The Reins

Iron & Wine's Sam Beam and the members of Calexico convened in December 2004 at Calexico's home base of Wavelab Studios in Tucson, Arizona. The idea of working together had been tossed around for over three years, though neither bands' schedule loaned itself into making it a reality until then. The resulting session "In the Reins", is a mini-album that is a truly harmonious affair sure to satisfy fans of both bands. The seven tracks are Sam Beam originals and were fleshed out by the full Calexico band. The record also features newcomer Natalie Wyants on vocals, Salvador Duran, a local fixture of the Tucson Flamenco scene, on vocals and Botas. Of course no Wavelab experience would be complete without the appearance of Nick Luca (NL Trio/John Doe Band) and Craig Schumacher, both of whom contributed to the record in the form of engineering and performance.

Schneider Kacirek

Radius Walk

Another dose of whirring rhythms and dark drones courtesy of Stefan Schneider and Sven Kacirek. This time around they have introduced the beguiling tones of Swedish singer Sofia Jernberg on three pieces, taking their music to a new level.Since their debut release, they have toured extensively with the likes of John McEntire (Tortoise, The Sea and Cake).A fascination with repetitive rhythm is the common thread which runs through the musical development of both musicians: listen to Stefan Schneider in his other projects, the bands Kreidler and To Rococo Rot and his albums with Hans-Joachim Roedelius. Further evidence can be heard on Kacirek's solo albums, in particular on his much-lauded "Kenya Sessions".

Die Wilde Jagd

Die Wilde Jagd

Music from the "Rauhnächte" - DIE WILDE JAGD go hunting in the thicket of Neo-Krautrock, Electronica and Synthpop.

Every year anew, during the Rauhnächte (those harsh nights between Christmas and Twelfth Day), the Wild Hunt (Die Wilde Jagd) rides across the country: raucous, jeering hunters from the nether world, whose path it is better not to cross. This is an ancient Germanic myth, which, in slightly varied form, is known in many parts of Europe and whose name Ralf Beck and Sebastian Lee Philipp have aptly chosen for their new project. The two first met in 2006 in Düsseldorf's Salon des Amateurs , a meeting place for new and established experimental musicians and artists, also known as Germany's "postpunk Hacienda". It seems no coincidence that Düsseldorf is the duo's founding city: their music is full of subtle references to local acts, such as Kraftwerk, NEU!, DAF, Liaisons Dangereuses, Pyrolator, the Krupps and Propaganda. Since their first meeting, Beck and Philipp regularly come together during the time of the Rauhnächte to record in Beck's well-equipped studio. Using the numerous analog keyboards and recording devices assembled there, and combining them with a diverse range of percussion instruments, they create their own "hunting music", which at times sounds unsettling, like swampland or a dark forest, but also urgent and pressing, like incandescent lasers or a hypnotic dance. Their soundscape is marked by repetitive guitar loops, electronic percussion, drums and synthesizers. Booming tom-toms and medieval-sounding flutes herald the start of the hunt. Whispering, reciting voices conjure up the spirits of the woods, while synthetic sounds, melodies and noises flit about before they are re-captured, structured and grounded by crystalline beats and pulsating bass lines.

About the musicians: Ralf Beck is a musician and producer from Düsseldorf. He has released several albums as part of the duo Nalin & Kane, as well as under the name Unit 4. He collects old synthesizers and effect pedals and has already worked together with Karl Bartos. In his studio Uhrwald Orange he has recorded music by Propaganda, Kreidler, Black Devil Disco and many more.

Sebastian Lee Philipp is part of the Berlin-based electro-wave duo Noblesse Oblige and composes music for theatre and radio plays. Between 2001 and 2006 he lived in London where he ran the club night "Caligula" and performed as a DJ.

Running

Wake Up Applauding

Running elbows in quick from the City of the Big Shoulders with Wake Up Applauding. Delivered loudly, dripping in unintelligible menace with the occasional flash of dark humor, their bathtub mixture of dope-sick guitars claws at your purse, ramming into an unhealthy sense of propulsion and repetition that seems chemical, unreal.

This is villains-plotting-evil kinda punk, mutants in the sewers emerging and wreaking havoc… Mothra shorting out high-voltage power lines and melting, screaming, onto a fleeing populace. Corrosive, driving, repetitive, pissed off, these guys deliver that evil cruisin’ vibe, tight and pushing 100 but with just a rotted off stump of a hand grossing everyone out and shifting gears.

Bed Wettin' Bad Boys

Rot

Look, there isn’t any way to write this without commenting on the name Bed Wettin’ Bad Boys. We’re not gonna bring ourselves to it, but with all measures of certainty, you are. You’re casting aspersions on their name, maybe formulating in your mind what they might sound like, and wondering why Agitated / RIP Society is bringing them to your attention. Have they no shame, you thought. Do they want to sell records and attract fans, you ponder. Thing is, they’ve heard it already. They own it, and they’ve done so since 2009. Save your opinions. It’s time to get that sentiment stricken from the slate, because we’re here to talk about their music, which is bold, passionate, ear-splitting rock & roll, performed with tremendous heart and determination. It’s a barrier of entry for those unable or unwilling to look past the surface.

Rot is the name of the second full-length from Sydney’s Bed Wettin’ Bad Boys. Hang it on regional slang (“My mum used to say, ‘what a load of rot’ instead of ‘what a load of shit,’” mentions guitarist Joe Sukit), or pin it to the way they perceive themselves as veritable dinosaurs of their local scene, set adrift to crumble on their love for classic rock and lack of fashionable ideas. Maybe even put it in the novelty canon of “Rock, Rot & Rule.” Or why not add a fourth R, because this thing rips. Those guitars are hoisted in defiance of cool, and are loud enough to break your concentration and enforce an active listening experience.

Musically, Bed Wettin’ Bad Boys haven’t budged an inch from their debut full length (2013’s Ready for Boredom, released on bassist Nic Warnock’s R.I.P Society label). Nor should they have; they are in the (sporadic) business of writing durable, sentiment-stirring riffs, the kind that lifted the first stirrings of punk in England (see Eddie and the Hot Rods, maybe), or of the direction of power-pop that was more focused on writing worldbeaters than fixing its hair (look at the Replacements, perhaps, or Mission of Burma). Not one drop of power is wasted or lost here; raw emotions push through these tracks in songs about love, about watching the world turn, about casting off distractions and focusing on the need for human connection.

We may not have much time left to say these things, before we begin to rot. This is their chance. Might be your chance as well.

The Is It Balearic crew has long held down all things blissed out and downtempo, and their once secretive but now essential side label Magic Wand is doing just as much vital work. Veteran house head Peter Blaker is next up after an already solid showing on Razor-N-Tape in April, and he offers two lush flips. The first is a chord-laced and gently waving rework of Kenny & Dolly that has a lovely new age wash, and the second is a more beat-driven and textured take on 'You Belong In The City.' It has a layer of percussion, big drums and a sort of rhythmic sway that is perfect for the outdoors.

STAFF COMMENTS

Mine says: Everyone's favourite edit label Magic Wand and man of the hour (year?) Pete Blaker finally come together on Vol. 21 of the popular Magic Wand series. Though the B-side heavily features sax, which I'm not usually a fan of, it's also a simultaneously melancholy and euphoric mega tune and sad bangers are my favourite genre, so... sign me up!

“We created a holiday inside our heads.”

‘A Deeper Life’, Chaos In The CBD’s debut album over 10 years in the making, is nostalgic for the duo’s nature-filled youth, exploring the magical coastline and lush rainforest of New Zealand. “The title refers to our childhood, which was idyllic,” says Ben. “It was just the sun, the sand, the sea, waterfalls, birds and fish…” The album’s blissful setting is also depicted on the album cover: a painting, by a childhood friend, of the beach where they grew up in Devonport.

‘A Deeper Life’ whirls that profound love of house music and wide-ranging influences – from Brazilian to R&B, ambient to Italo to deep house and downtempo pop – into a serene, cohesive whole with their signature finesse. The result is an international dance sound that feels unmistakably like Chaos and ebbs and flows from the beach party to the club to the afterhours.

On the album they’ve teamed up with a number of US legends and married their vocals with the UK underground: Josh Milan of house pioneers Blaze brings his soulful vocals to the bossa nova beats of ‘I Wanna Tell Somebody,’ a future jazz-dance anthem. Unheralded Chicago house hero and Larry Heard collaborator Lee Pearson Jr. goes deep over ‘More Time’’s broken beat flex. And on ‘Maintaining My Peace’, the brothers have matched veteran house singer-songwriter Stephanie Cooke with UK grime MC Novelist, on a slinky LDN interpretation of LA hip-hop and g-funk.

Also featured on the album are New Zealand jazz artist Nathan Haines, frequent collaborator Isaac Asaeili and more.

Wing!

MISSED IT JUST THE ONCE

wing!’s debut EP MISSED IT JUST THE ONCE is a ghostly instrumental hip hop project shaped by instinct, collaboration, and the constraints of a work lunch break - combining sample-based beat-making with live instrumentation.
Emerging from a period of creative exploration and personal transformation, MISSED IT JUST THE ONCE marks a pivotal moment for wing!, the moniker of Bexleyheath born-and-raised producer Adam Swan. “This EP was a breath of fresh air for me,” he shares. “It was the first time I had multiple tracks I was proud of. The idea of having an EP to listen back to and be excited about was completely new to me.”

Each track on the EP tells its own story, both in sound and in the moments of its creation. The first single "Out From Outer" was the first track written for the EP, and its original skeleton was conceived during wing!’s lunch break from working in a coffee shop - a habit that has been the basis of all of the tracks on the EP. “I was listening to a lot of Brazilian funk and thinking about how J Dilla layered samples on Geek Down,” he recalls. “I wanted it to feel like a live DJ endlessly flipping samples over a drum loop.”

The track served as the catalyst for the formation of wing!’s live band: after sending it to drummer Joe Killick, they had their first rehearsal and began transforming the music into a live experience, soon joined by bassist Kai Charlton. They made their debut at The Windmill Brixton in April 2024. As a trio playing live, they bridge the gap between beat-driven electronic & hip hop music and live jazz-inflected improvisation. Their blend of trip-hop textures with post-rock dynamics contributed to the EP’s final completion, with all three performing on the closing track.

Closing track In A Second I Will Need A Second’s post-rock inspired sound blends seamlessly with wing!’s more native hip-hop beatmaking. Drawing influence from the likes of Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Butch Kassidy, the track's energy is built around a drum crescendo of epic proportions. Initially hesitant to incorporate live drums over the usual sampling, wing! ultimately embraced the organic energy it brought to their live and recorded sound. The track’s momentum is driven by drummer Joe Killick’s subtle dynamic shifts. Kai Charlton brings deeply melodic bass, resulting in a piece that feels immense while remaining introspective.

The EP came hot off the back of opening Green Man Festival’s iconic Mountain Stage after winning the Green Man Rising competition.

MISSED IT JUST THE ONCE is wing! planting his flag in the ground, and making their first definitive statement. Boom bap grooves melding seamlessly with trippy ambiance and propulsive composition. With ‘In A Second I Will Need a Second’ the trio close out their debut EP in an epic conclusion. wing! continue to move from strength-to-strength, and have cemented themselves as one to watch with this release. With Missed It Just The Once, wing! establishes himself as an artist unafraid to follow his instincts, experiment freely, and find creativity in unexpected places.

20/20 Vision: Full Circle Vol Three - Incl. Roman Fluegel & Madvilla Remixes

Three decades deep and as essential as ever, Ralph Lawson's 20/20 Vision Recordings continues to mine its rich back catalogue with care. To that end, 'Full Circle Vol.3' feels both respectful and forward-facing with new mixes of enduring classics. Roman Flugel reworks 'Machine Life' into a driving club sound with fresh vocals and elastic acid lines, while Madvilla sharpens 'Rhythm Freq' into a sleek hybrid of house, UKG and electro. Simon Baker's updated 'The Liptrick' retains its raw punch, and Formidable Force close with a warm, late-night dub of 'Reactivate'. It is a tidy reminder of the breadth and depth of sound this label has always dealt in.

Frenchman Franck Roger is as consistent as any of the deep house greats we have all loved and appreciated for many years. He returns to Seasons Limited with another EP of perfectly timeless sounds to back that up. Opening up this latest gem is 'Don't Make Me Wait', which is shimmering and candlelit, with wispy pads and aching vocal cries occasionally bursting out of the mix. 'The Number Track' has a more pronounced groove with lumpy kicks and this time neon chords bubble through nicely for zoned-out late-night hypnosis. 'Fast Lane' closes with a more insular and dark feel that takes you back to the early days of Chicago house with a devastating synth conveying great loneliness.

Coyote are back with another typically carefully curated collection of Balearic re-edits and revisions via the reliable (and hush-hush) Magic Wand imprint. The Nottingham twosome kick things off themselves with 'Carpenter', a dubby and bass-heavy extension of a dreamy, folksy number (all jangling acoustic guitar, stoned male lead vocals and gentle hand percussion), before we're treated to the 'Pointless edit' of 'Six Blade Scalpel' - a languid, bass-heavy revision of a late 70s blues/soft-rock number crafted by Bedmo Disco's Sell By Dave. There's an Americana/neo-folk feel to Andy Kidd's sublime extension of Dan England's 'I Don't Feel That Way', while YZ's edit of 'Sapelo' is a horizontal, Rhodes-laden, spoken word-sporting ambient delight.

STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: A selection of 'woody' organic numbers from the Magic Wand roster that touches on folk and soft rock, keeping the mood soft and gentle. If one was to take a canoe down the Mississippi river I could well imagine this as the soundtrack...

Born from years of mutual admiration and an instant creative kinship, 'Qué Les Pasó A Mis Amigos?' captures two singular voices in electronic music finding common ground in uncertainty, connection, and emotional survival. Across the EP, Ela Minus and Nick León channel heartbreak, fractured friendships, disillusionment, and perseverance into a collection of songs that are melancholic yet relentlessly in motion.

With 'Qué Les Pasó A Mis Amigos?' — mixed by Patrick Holland and mastered by Heba Kadry — the pair embraced experimentation without expectation, creating music that not only expands both of their artistic worlds, but also lays the groundwork for future collaborations.

Do Nothing

Friend World

Three years after the release of their debut album, Do Nothing return with their much anticipated sophomore, 'Friend World'. The Nottingham four piece consisting of Chris Bailey, Kasper Sandstrøm, Charlie Howarth, Andrew Harrison, emerge bolder, self-assured and more energetic than ever.

Lead single 'Stars' is a synth-laden track with hypnotic riffs, meandering vocals and bouncing basslines. The single, already a fan favourite, paves the way for listeners to enter the 'Friend World' that Do Nothing have created. At first glance, the album is overflowing with hard hitting guitars, infectious rhythms and frontman Bailey's signature razor-sharp witted lyricism, but dive deeper into tracks such as 'These People Want Blood' and standout track 'Loner', to find an alternative take on the album, representing a softer and more pensive side of the band's writing.

Have You Ever Heard Old Music? : 52 Essential Records You Need In Your Life

In an era where technology threatens the art of songwriting and production, 'old' music matters more than ever. Those classic songs from decades ago that still carry so much power are each totally unique, but all were shaped by immense skill, hard work, and moments of pure creative inspiration. Now, esteemed producer Owen Cutts - who has brought his infectious passion to the world through his Old Music Friday series - opens up his record collection to share 52 essential, groundbreaking songs that anyone who cares about music should hear.

From Minnie Ripperton to The Delfonics, The Beatles to Aretha Franklin, Al Green to Dusty Springfield, Owen picks apart the craft behind each song, and delves into why these recordings still cut through the noise and connect so deeply with listeners. This is a book for anyone looking to expand their sonic horizons, understand the creative process and lose themselves in great music. It's about songs that refuse to age, and why they still resonate all these years later.

God of War is Douglas Dulgarian (They Are Gutting A Body Of Water), Scott Turner (hooky) and Sam Silbert (hooky, circle of fire).

It's 2007. You’re watching your older cousin play SSX tricky. How is he such a monster at this game. Dude for real what the fuck. Such style, such finesse. I know he smokes weed. Should I tell Aunt Vicky? No no no- that would ruin this moment. He is racking up points that were formerly unheard of, and with such grace. There’s no expression on his face. And considering that he just sat open mouthed at the dinner table staring into nothing for forty minutes, this revelation is more than remarkable. It seems as if he has always existed in this moment. As if his very essence was plucked from the ether. And perhaps he has. He was made for this moment.

Coil

Gold Is The Metal (With The Broadest Shoulders) - 2026 Reissue

'Gold Is The Metal (With The Broadest Shoulders)', Coil’s vital 1987 album, is remastered and reissued.

The album was the third in a trilogy that began with 'Scatology' and 'Horse Rotorvator', with much of the material emerging from the same period of recordings. It hones an "electro-erotics of sound," blending textural instrumental pieces with notable field recordings – including a drunken brass band captured in Mexico and a Thai boxing arena recorded by Sleazy. A key moment of serendipity is found in ‘Metal In The Head’, which features a malfunctioning Fairlight sampler randomly rearranging and distorting the music.

Remastered under the guidance of original member Stephen Thrower, this new edition features restored artwork, previously unseen imagery and new sleeve notes, and marks the start of a new reissue series through The Grey Area of Mute.

Established in 1982 by Peter Christopherson (Sleazy) and John Balance, Coil began as an art and music project before expanding into a trio with Thrower in 1984. Their work remains a profoundly influential and enigmatic force within industrial and experimental music, fearlessly exploring themes of queerness, sex, drugs, magick and freedom.

Nouvelle Vague

A Date With Depeche Mode

More than twenty years after reinventing post-punk with their now cult debut, Nouvelle Vague opens a bold new chapter with 'A Date with Depeche Mode', a full-length reimagining of one of the most influential and beloved catalogues in modern music.

Few bands have shaped pop culture like Depeche Mode. Few artists have mastered the art of musical reinterpretation like Nouvelle Vague. Bringing these two worlds together feels both completely unexpected and utterly inevitable.

Recorded between Rio de Janeiro and Paris, the album transforms thirteen Depeche Mode classics into intimate, cinematic and deeply emotional songs. What were once driven by machines become warm, organic and timeless, revealing the songwriting at the heart of these iconic compositions.

Performed by an exceptional international cast of guest vocalists - including Skye Edwards (Morcheeba), Beth Hirsch, Flavia Coelho, Mélanie Pain, Phoebe Killdeer, Fredrika Stahl and more - each track offers a unique encounter between a voice and a song, staying true to the signature Nouvelle Vague approach.

From 'Enjoy the Silence' and 'Personal Jesus' to 'Stripped', 'Just Can't Get Enough' and the fan-favourite 'Ice Machine', these timeless songs are reborn through bossa nova, jazz, French pop and Latin influences without ever losing their emotional power.

Jordan Rakei

A Safe Place To Be Wild

'A Safe Place To Be Wild' is the seventh LP from Jordan Rakei, arriving after more than a decade of pushing the boundaries of soul, jazz and alternative R&B. Fearless, intimate and emotionally direct, the album finds Jordan embracing uninhibited self-expression and placing vulnerability at the centre of his songwriting. Stripping everything back to raw feeling and unfiltered moments, 'A Safe Place To Be Wild' captures an artist fully stepping into himself, confronting the fear of exposing his inner world and finding power in doing so.

The Twelve Songs Of Christmas: Britain's Love Affair With The Xmas No. 1

The Twelve Songs Of Christmas tells the whole story by covering a dozen Christmas number ones, stretching from Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer in 1950 - a song that feels like it's been around forever - to Wham's Last Christmas, which finally made it to number one in 2023, thirty-nine years after it was first released.

Each chapter will talk about the background behind each song, the songwriter and the performer. Not all of them will be Christmas songs - the Beatles dominated the Christmas number one slot in the sixties, and the Spice Girls likewise in the late nineties, but none of them were Christmas songs. Pink Floyd's one and only number one single soundtracked a bleak Christmas at the end of the seventies, with the country, a few months into the Thatcher era, in a depressing state of flux.

The book also digs into the Christmas records that didn't make it to number one, including lesser-known gems like Kate Bush's December Will Be Magic Again, denied in 1980 as the world mourned the death of John Lennon, and Mariah Carey's leviathan All I Want For Christmas Is You, which has still never made it to become the Christmas number one, even in the streaming era.

Cookie Happened

Reflecting on the 16th studio album, frontman E says: “All of this will be forgotten. Every joy, accomplishment and hardship will one day become so irrelevant it will be as if none of it occurred. But as the great philosopher of our times, Cookie Monster once said: “Me no cry because cookie is finished. Me smile because cookie happened.” This will all be forgotten. But isn’t it still a beautiful thing that it happened?”

Holy Motors

Heaven's Night

Holy Motors’ third studio album, 'Heaven’s Night', pairs the band’s signature Western dreamscapes with pop hooks and new-wave textures that mark new territory for the Estonian band. Notably, there is a new sweetness to the collection of songs on 'Heaven’s Night', which features characters who step away from the doomed sunsets and outback melancholy of 2020’s 'Horse'. As the band puts it, their new sound is “sweet as dripping honey, sad like summer rain.”

Without a doubt, 'Heaven’s Night' is Holy Motors’ most varied album to date. From the furious gallop of 'The Last Ones' to the pop centerpiece, 'Hellishly Hot', 'Heaven’s Night' throws a new spin on the band’s world, one that is a little less haunted and a little more dangerous.

Babehoven

I See Them, I See Me

Babehoven, the Hudson NY based indie folk duo of Maya Bon and Ryan Albert, return with their third studio album, 'I See Them, I See Me'. Through fourteen tracks that crackle with clear-eyed vision, Babehoven has crafted a transcendent new collection that gets back to the heart of what makes music meaningful and life worth living. For the first time in Babehoven's prolific output - which includes, most recently, 2024's 'Water's Here In You' - Bon and Albert blew the doors open on their process, inviting in three different engineers to capture the songs in four different studios. The all-star line-up includes Sam Evian, Kevin Copeland, and Phil Weinrobe, who also acted as co-producer. Much of 'I See Them, I See Me' was live-tracked with a six-person ensemble, with Weinrobe instilling a philosophy of "no playback, no headphones, and no preparation" to create maximal presence in the room.

From the opening track 'You're a Liar', the band establishes a new palette: a rollicking blend of indie and alt-country that sparkles with slide guitar, hardanger fiddle, and a sprightly vocal twang paying homage to Emmylou Harris and Patsy Cline, with classic folk-rock artists like Neil Young, Bob Dylan, and The Band as further touchstones.

In 2024, during Babehoven's first headline tour, Bon suffered paralysis of her right vocal chord and was told she might never recover. In light of this, the album rings out as a sort of triumphant fist-pump. While many of Babehoven's songs are built on intricate cyclical melodies, 'I See Them, I See Me' is full of wide, catchy choruses - anthems to be sung by a crowd.

Dan Croll

Winning Streak

'Winning Streak' marries Bacharach-inspired orchestral arrangements and confessional songwriting.

Strings and brass complement crooned vocals and honest storytelling. This push and pull between big band confidence and late- night vulnerability mirrors the album's emotional landscape, balancing outward movement with inward reckoning. With themes of regret, nostalgia, and optimism, 'Winning Streak' covers long shots taken on love, the emotional aftershocks of risky decisions, and the quiet negotiations we make with ourselves when things don't go as planned.

The album emerged from a period of taking stock: leaving Los Angeles, returning to the UK, and reassessing the definition of success. Rather than presenting success as a fixed destination, 'Winning Streak' reframes it as endurance, perspective, and the accumulation of small personal breakthroughs. It finds meaning in the quiet victories that only reveal themselves after plans have unravelled, and life has to be put back together again. Life moves quickly, knocks land often, and the goal posts keep shifting, but getting back up starts to feel like its own kind of winning.

Pratt & Moody With Cold Diamond & Mink

Lost Lost Lost

With 'Lost Lost Lost', Pratt & Moody gather the defining moments of their journey and package it with fresh soul gold into one cohesive, slow- burning statement. What began as a series of cult 7” vinyl releases – often mistaken online for forgotten soul classics from another era – now finds its natural home in album form. Written and recorded with Timmion’s trusted house band Cold Diamond & Mink, the record captures the duo’s unmistakable chemistry: emotionally rich songwriting wrapped in warm, analog textures that blur past and present.

From the velvet sway of 'Addictive Touch' to the cinematic tension of 'You Bring Me Joy' and the beat ballad ache of 'Hard Way To Live', the album moves effortlessly between bedroom-soul intimacy and widescreen drama. 'Hang Tight' opens with a blissful piano figure that nods to gospel-tinged 1970s soul before unfolding into a full-bodied groove, while 'Hooked On Your Love' glows with golden-age group soul harmony sweetness. Across both sides, Pratt’s finely tuned vocals and Moody’s expressive guitar work anchor songs that feel timeless rather than nostalgic.

At its core, 'Lost Lost Lost' is an album steeped in atmosphere – lush downtempo moments sit alongside sweet harmony-driven soul, cinematic builds dissolve into dark restrained grooves. Analog string synthesizers, vibraphone accents, tremolo guitar, and deep-pocket rhythms create emotional tension without excess. Pratt & Moody’s strength lies in their melodic instinct: songs that feel big without being pompous or losing their human quality. The result is a record that feels cohesive, immersive, and that real thing – reaffirming the duo as key architects of the contemporary lowrider soul revival.

Ziad Rahbani

Ana Moush Kafer - 2026 Reissue

Wewantsounds is delighted to continue its Ziad Rahbani reissue program with Ana Moush Kafer, a classic album by the Lebanese legend Ziad Rahbani, recorded at his By-Pass Studio in Beirut during the height of the Lebanese Civil War in 1985. Showcasing Rahbani’s signature blend of Arabic music infused with touches of jazz-funk and bossa nova, the album has attained cult status over the years. Originally released on cassette, it has never before been available on vinyl. Newly remastered, this edition features the original Relax-In cassette artwork from 1985 and includes new liner notes by Mario Choueiry of the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris.

Ziad Rahbani, who passed away in 2025, remains one of the most influential figures in modern Arabic music and a cultural icon in Lebanon. A musician, composer, pianist, producer and playwright, he helped modernize Arabic music over five decades. The son of composer Assi Rahbani and singer Fairuz, he shaped her late 70s–80s recordings producing Wahdon and Maarifti Feek, while building a major solo career with classics such as Abu Ali and Houdou Nisbi, which have become cult favourites for a new generation of DJs and music lovers.

Released in 1985 in Lebanon, Ana Moush Kafer stands as one of Rahbani’s key achievements. Recorded at his By-Pass Studio during the Lebanese Civil War, it blends Arabic melodic traditions with jazz-funk, bossa nova and Western arrangements. Originally cassette-only, it became one of his most revered releases. Throughout the album, Rahbani’s writing reflects the turbulence of wartime Beirut with a blend of sharp social observation, political satire and melancholy. It captures a moment in Lebanese cultural history where experimentation, satire and popular song intersected, giving the album its enduring influence among music lovers.

Sung by Rahbani and Sami Hawat, alongside Beirut-based musicians, the album features both Western and traditional Arabic instruments. It balances refined arrangements with lyrical irony, social commentary and political reflection, which remain deeply resonant in today’s context in Lebanon.
One of the highlights of the album is the song “Shou A’ada Ma Bada,” with lyrics by Joseph Harb, which reveals a clear bossa nova influence, while the closing track, “Al Mokawama Al Watania Al Lobnani,” offers a deeply human view of war, avoiding patriotic cliché in favour of a nuanced perspective rooted in lived experience.

As Mario Choueiry observes in his liner notes, “Ana Moush Kafer stands as one of the high points of modern Arab political songwriting, yet transcends its historical and geographical context through the universal relevance of its themes and the timeless quality of its music.”

Forty years on, Ana Moush Kafer remains a landmark of Arab music. Wewantsounds presents it on vinyl for the first time, newly remastered and featuring original artwork. This long-awaited reissue restores one of Ziad Rahbani’s most important works to circulation, reaffirming its place as a defining statement in modern Arabic music.

Jess Williamson

A Mile South Of Heaven

Jess Williamson has built one of the most distinctive voices in American music — crystalline, acrobatic, and unmistakably her own. The Texas-born, Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist has spent the better part of a decade carving out her own lane at the intersection of indie folk, alt-country, and a deeply personal confessional tradition. Now, on her seventh studio album, she steps into new creative territory.

Produced by Shooter Jennings, the album finds Williamson's artistry meeting its ideal counterpart. Jennings brings a deep-roots sensibility and studio instinct honed across decades, and together they've crafted twelve songs that honor the grit and sweep of classic country while remaining unmistakably contemporary. Williamson's voice remains the central instrument: front and center, emotionally unguarded, carrying the kind of weight that demands a room go quiet. But with Jennings at the helm, the sonic canvas is richer and more expansive than anything in her catalog to date — full of texture, warmth, and that ineffable Nashville-meets-Laurel-Canyon atmosphere that lives somewhere between Linda Ronstadt and Waylon Jennings.

These Wicked Rivers

Fire & Folklore

Established in 2014, These Wicked Rivers have emerged as one of the UK’s most compelling forces in the recent rock resurgence. Hailing from Derby and drawing influence from the well of rock legends and blues greats, the band have made quite an impact since their inception with their unique brand of blues-infused modern rock. With a reputation for soulful-bordering-on-spiritual live performances and timeless songcraft the band have built unstoppable momentum in recent years.

2026 is set to mark a landmark chapter for the quintet, with their hotly-anticipated third album 'Fire and Folklore'. The record was recorded in the band's hometown of Belper in Derbyshire, at Andy Sneap's home studio. With the Grammy-winning Sneap (Judas Priest, Saxon, Megadeth) and Colin Richardson (Slipknot, Massive Wagons, Those Damn Crows) at the helm, it's the band 's most accomplished record to date. Expanding beyond their signature wizard-blues rock sound, 'Fire and Folklore' pushes into new sonic territory, blending in shades of country and Southern spirit while retaining the groove and soul that defines the band. The record also features a special guest appearance from fellow Derby artist, country starlet Kezia Gill.

Loved dearly by a rapidly growing "Family" of fans, and armed with a homegrown record with its sights set firmly on the global stage, These Wicked Rivers are poised to reach new heights. Jump on in and enjoy!

Way Dynamic

Massive Shoe

Way Dynamic, the solo project of Melbourne’s Dylan Young, releases internationally 'Massive Shoe' – a third album that’s playful and understated, luminous and textured. Massive Shoe is minimalist folk-pop, art rock and baroque pop, produced and largely played by Young, who moonlights in Melbourne’s beloved Cool Sounds and Good Morning and has played drums with Snowy Band and Kankawa Nagarra.

It’s tempting to only compare these songs to those of yesteryear – Young’s falsetto, his ear for harmonies and the intricate arrangements all feel timeless. But there’s a sensibility, a turn of phrase, that feels deeply contemporary: it’s telling that Waxahatchee’s Katie Crutchfield described 'Miffed It' as her “favourite song in a VERY long time”, and Katie, MJ Lenderman, This is Lorelei and Black Country New Road have all taken Way Dynamic on tour, while Sir Elton John said that he “just cannot stop listening” to 'Ibiza'. Young’s songs don’t shy away from sentiment, or equally from silliness: on any given song he might suggest a flight to space or earnestly lament a miscommunication. “Can we walk and talk as well?” he asks on “I Was the Dancer”, and we rush to accept the invitation.

Wishy

Nature's Pill

Wishy’s 'Nature’s Pill' captures a world where life feels unpredictable and overwhelming, yet full of possibility. On their vibrant sophomore record, Wishy entertains the madness–capturing romantic frustration, neurotic desire and the melodrama that ensues from simply being human in a jubilant remix of the past. Nature’s Pill bears all of Wishy’s trademarks: zany lyrics transfiguring melancholia into freedom, choruses set to become instant classics, and an unholy fusion of sugary grunge, indie rock and dream-pop.

Wishy’s genesis has been a prolific burst powered by the band’s musical synergy: the 'Mana' and 'Paradise' EPs in 2023, debut LP 'Triple Seven' in 2024, and a follow-up EP 'Planet Popstar' in 2025. After those releases met acclaim and the band’s stature rose, the conception of 'Nature’s Pill' was fundamentally different. Written more collaboratively than past releases, the group reconvened with 'Triple Seven' co-producer Ben Lumsdaine in Los Angeles, where the quintet packed into a tiny studio and tracked half the songs live in the room, imbuing the album with the immediate energy of a band in sync after heavy touring. It gave them the ability to synthesize an even greater array of touchstones this time around, with the ‘90s dream-pop and alt-rock of 'Triple Seven' fusing with ‘80s college rock and ‘00s indie.

TRAVO

Wasteland

Braga, Portugal-based psych-rock four-piece TRAVO return with ‘Wasteland’, their heaviest and most metallic album to date and first on their new label home Fuzz Club. Recorded in early 2026 at ARDA Recorders in Porto and produced, mixed, and mastered by Jaime Arellano (Ghost, Ulver, Behemoth), TRAVO's third studio album marks a shift away from the fantasy themes of the band’s previous record, 2023’s ‘Astromorph God’, into something much more personal, palpable, and grounded in the anxieties of the present time.

‘Wasteland’ arrives off the back of three years spent touring heavily around Europe, with their notoriously face-melting live show captured on a blazing KEXP session filmed whilst on the road. Looking to keep riding that high, the band took advantage of a rare break in their touring schedule and headed straight for the studio with a newfound intensity and urgency: “The recording session was booked without any composed material, and the whole album ended up being written in a little over one intense month of rehearsals. The pressure of wanting to take a step forward with the next album started to creep in and caused some internal friction. This feeling of urgency naturally carried over into the songs and gave them a character they likely wouldn’t have had in a more relaxed writing environment.”

Across its seven tracks, ‘Wasteland’ explores themes of “techno-anxiety, disconnection, dystopia, love, death, rebirth, and the search for collective spirituality”, note the band. Each song is loosely inspired by a different section of T.S. Eliot’s poem ‘The Waste Land’, “whose themes and motifs feel especially relevant today.” Musically, the album incorporates dark psychedelic and industrial influences, fusing them with the band’s more familiar elements: loud and corrosive fast-paced songs intertwined with crushing, slow-burning epics. The vocals range from catchy falsetto melodies to full-on growls and screams. The guitars interplay with each other, producing either beautiful harmonies or uncanny dissonances. The rhythm section is tight, potent, and hypnotic. It is also the band’s most synth-heavy album to date.

Altogether, ‘Wasteland’ is an aggressive, genre-bending rock record knocking on metal’s door while still managing to breathe through the chaos. It’s an intense headbanging journey between fast, bad-trip-inducing jams and contemplative ambient passages.

The title comes from the track of the same name - a bittersweet reflection on looking back at better times. “Like most songs I write, it comes from something real,” says lead singer Steve Garrigan. “That feeling of being part of something special... In some ways, it reflects the journey we’ve been on together.” Written entirely by Garrigan, a first for the band, We Were Only Young? stands as the perfect farewell from one of the most compelling indie-pop bands of their generation.

DJ Spanish Fly

Cadillac Warning

DJ Spanish Fly is one of the foundational figures of Memphis rap. Long before the city's underground sound would influence artists across the globe, his homemade mixtapes circulated hand-to-hand throughout Tennessee and the wider South, defining a raw, bass-heavy style that would become the blueprint for generations of rap producers.

'Cadillac Warning' collects a wealth of previously unreleased recordings from the 1990s, excavating the eerie, hypnotic world Fly built from primitive home recording equipment, drum machines and booming car stereos. Named after the talking alarm system in his prized 1978 Cadillac Coup DeVille, the album captures a period when the car was both status symbol and mobile headquarters, carrying his music from clubs and college campuses to gas stations and neighbourhood streets across Memphis.

Championed by the likes of A$AP Rocky, Legowelt, LIM, and more - DJ Spanish Fly's lasting impact on the wider hip-hop landscape is seeing a renewed global interest from underground rap and electronic music communities alike.

Andrew Poppy

The Beating Of Wings - 40th Anniversary Edition

40th anniversary edition of Andrew Poppy's The Beating of Wings, originally released on ZTT Records. Hailed as "a major landmark in pop-classical genre-blending and post-minimalism" (Robert Davidson,

Topology) and "..ahead of his time ..he'd fit right in with the Max Richters and Nils Frahms of today" (Steven Wilson; Porcupine Tree, The Album Years podcast).

Composed and produced by Andrew Poppy and performed by his bespoke ensembles, The Beating of Wings contains four mesmeric tracks that mix acoustic orchestral instruments with electric piano, electric guitar, bass guitar, sampler, Fairlight Music Computer and drum machine. Each piece has its own narrative, perspective, musical world and colour held together by an infectious pulse. For this release, the album has been remastered by Stephan Mathieu, and an expanded booklet includes new writing by Andrew Poppy. 2-panel gatefold sleeve, 24 page CD booklet and CD sleeve.

A gateway access to the world of contemporary classical music for fans of Brian Eno, Laurie Anderson and Kraftwerk, a generation of music fans discovered The Beating of Wings as it rubbed shoulders with ZTT's pop artists, The Art of Noise, Propaganda and Frankie Goes To Hollywood. ZTT co-founder Paul Morley wrote in The Quietus, "ZTT needed Poppy as much as it needed Frankie".

Andrew Poppy is post-minimal composer, musician, vocalist, writer, record producer and arranger with a unique body of work and collaborations. He signed to Trevor Horn and Paul Morley's ZTT Records in 1984.

"Poppy's music is like Madagascar - you discover species there you don't find anywhere else." Brian Morton, Wire magazine

"..what you hear in Poppy's music.. is a keen ear for the large-scale, compositional use of timbre - the qualities that drew him to the cutting edge technology of ZTT's studio-based culture. His music's purpose is often revealed more effectively through the multi-tracked recording process. Younger composers may take this for granted but Poppy got there first." John Walters, The Guardian

Dylan John Thomas

Nothing Here Worth Taking

Dylan John Thomas returns with his electrifying second album, 'Nothing Here Worth Taking'.

Entirely written by Dylan, the album was recorded at Magic Box studios over the past year. Anchored by the gravitational pull of his unmistakable vocal and longstanding relationship with the acoustic guitar, the 10-track set is gritty, raw and emotionally charged. A rousing, carousing blast of brass, blues, banjo, piano and classic, retrofutureproof, singalong songwriting. It marks a bold step forward for one of Scotland's most compelling voices.

Includes the singles 'Heaven Knows You're Lonely' and 'Got You On My Mind'.

Faust

Fliegen Lernen (Curated By Gunther Wüsthoff)

Order all 4 of the limited Coloured LPs in the "Curated by" series of  albums and you'll receive a free Faust tote bag!

For Wüsthoff, music began long before Faust. As a child he watched his father lose himself in music, playing accordion renditions of operettas, film themes and folk songs with complete absorption. At eleven he discovered jazz through a radio programme tracing its history, then taught himself guitar and piano as a teenager, developing an instinctive relationship with sound driven by curiosity rather than convention. That outlook would become central to Faust, not simply as a band but as an enduring way of thinking. Reflecting on those formative years, Wüsthoff describes them as the experience that shaped everything that followed: without Faust, he says, he would never have made this record in the way he has today.

Produced by Onnen Bock alongside Bureau B's Gunther Buskies, Fliegen Lernen continues that philosophy. Drawn from decades of archived recordings, new studio experiments and collaborations with musicians in Hamburg, it is a living extension of Faust's open-ended creative spirit. Ideas emerge through chance as much as intention, with sounds, words and stories setting one another in motion until they gradually find their own form. Its title, simultaneously suggesting "flies are learning" and "learning to fly", perfectly captures the playful shifts in perspective that have long defined Wüsthoff's work.

Throughout Fliegen Lernen, Wüsthoff revisits and reimagines ideas that have animated his career for more than half a century. Much of the material grew from electronic sequences discovered in his archive, some echoing the patterns behind the homemade "Spieluhr" frequency-divider and sequencer he built during his Faust years.

Opener "Hörst Du Die Schritte" crashes jerky piano figures into a wiry punk-funk groove, with rhythmic saxophone and deadpan vocals creating something stranger than No Wave but irresistibly danceable. "Sonntag Nachmittag" drifts into electroacoustic territory, balancing synthetic textures, live drums and melancholic piano motifs, while "Charm Quarks Boogie" offers a brief detour into clipped digital minimalism. Tracks such as "Down, Down And Come To Me" and the title piece lock into mechanical funk rhythms filled with squealing saxophone, bubbling electronics and spoken-word passages, locating a contemporary version of the playful tension that always defined Faust.

Elsewhere the album reveals a more atmospheric and exploratory side. "Sandra Tanzt" unfolds like a shadowy soundtrack, while "Sendepause" transforms kosmische textures into weightless funk. "Erstbesteigung" emerged from an improvised session featuring Wüsthoff on MS-20 and Faust's original ARP 2600, gradually dissolving language itself into streams of fragmented syllables. The haunting "Schongang" recalls fourth-world ambience and late-night jazz introspection, before closing track "Ganz Gut, Oder" expands into a stomping, hallucinatory desert-psych excursion.

Throughout it all, the ordinary becomes a source of invention. Vacuum cleaner hoses become rhythmic loops, rubber gloves squeak in the bath, shells and stones are rubbed together for texture, while a simple
encounter with a fly in the kitchen becomes the basis for the album's title track. By turns humorous, reflective, cinematic and groove-driven, Fliegen Lernen demonstrates that Wüsthoff's creative imagination remains as restless as ever. Rather than recreating the past, it embodies the same openness that made Faust so singular in the first place: a belief that any sound, object or passing observation can become the spark for something unexpected. More than fifty years after those formative experiments, Wüsthoff continues to approach music as an act of curiosity, collaboration and continual discovery.

We Shine In The Darkness have made a superb start to life with two first EPs that both sold out. Their third is another hot one with dancefloor-savvy reworkings set to light up summer floors. The A-side reimagines 'Beachball', the beloved 1997 Ibiza house anthem that here becomes a smooth, nu-disco bumper with fine-grain synths and an electro-funk vibe that is finished with a great vocal from Ukrainian singer Teya Flow, lending the track fresh emotional pull. The B-side shifts into 'Gulf Dream', a deeper, more hypnotic and cosmic disco sound that takes its time to unfold, before closer 'Shining Star' channels New York's Neo funk lineage into something super cool and loved up, swaggy and full of summer heat. Vital cuts for vibey selectors.

Trá Pháidín

Cloch 's Claí

Trá Pháidín are a mutable collective of musicians who are geographically, culturally and mentally torn between Conamara Theas, Cathair Chorcaí, Ciarraí, Uíbh Fhailí, Sligeach and Port Láirge, active in one form or another since 2019. The music they make, which to date has mostly been self-released, is of an ambitious breadth, embracing traditional Irish absurdity, jazz, folk and krautrock influences, whilst remaining tantalisingly beyond any one specific understanding of either the world around them or even themselves. More defined however, is their overall conceptual approach, focusing upon original Gaelic music and what lies beyond simply “conas atá tú?”.

Cloch ‘s Claí (trans. Stone & Wall), their first record to be released by World of Echo, develops their established interests into more adventurous waters (and walls!) than ever. Based on the historical significance embedded into dry-stone walls, the album presents a satirical view of Éire’s relationship with her native tongue and the Gaeltacht (regions where Gaeilge - Irish Gaelic - remains the primary language). Constructed of ten tracks, each representative of a stone in a metaphorical stone-wall, Cloch ‘s Claí draws from styles of improvisation in Irish traditional music, exploring avenues of ornamentation and accompaniment in the tradition. As such, the arrangement changes in every performance, a new stone-wall articulated each time - the recording on this album represents just one such arrangement in one such performance. Inspired by Myles na gCopaleen’s An Béal Bocht, the wall comes to embody a variety of themes scattered across the landscape and psyche of na Gaeltachtaí - tokenism, housing, gentry politics, ribbon developments and so on. The result is a music expressive of regional styles in traditional music, krautrock, free jazz, post-rock, minimalism and drone presented in a way that feels instinctively fluid and reflective of a hushed existentialism from the west of Ireland.

On Cloch ‘s Claí, Trá Pháidín are: Conal Ó hAinmhuighe, Ultan Ó Labhradha, Peadar-Tom Mercier, Micheál Fitzgerald, Pól Ó Lionáird, Ruairí De Búrca. Cloch ‘s Claí will be released digitally and as a limited edition LP on 25th September via World of Echo. This record was created through the support of the DEIS Recording Grant & Ealaín na Gaeltachta.

The Yummy Fur

Everybody Talks About The Weather'

The Yummy Fur’s first album of new material in over 25 years is seductive and ambiguous; a fast-paced flip through scenes from art, myth, life and fantasy; a witty whole made from glittering scraps. The band’s original incarnation – fronted by singer, songwriter and guitarist John McKeown from 1992 to 1999 – morphed from making quick-hit cartoon-art songs to Eno and Cale-influenced creepers, populated by characters from McKeown’s life in Glasgow and the films, books and poetry that he lived a parallel life through. Everybody Talks About The Weather delights in using every past iteration of the band as potent collage material: a melee of sounds and ideas existing at once, revealing themselves then dipping back into hiding.

Recorded by the original core trio of McKeown, Brian MacDougall (guitar) and Paul Thomson (drums), Everybody Talks About The Weather comes 17 years after the band reformed for sporadic live shows, and seven years after the release of their sorta-greatest hits compilation Piggy Wings (Rock Action). Ten tracks long with nothing to spare, it is as condensed and vital as their best songs, with a new clarity of sound that allows their ambiguities to come into the light.

The album begins with “Cogs”, a taunting inquisition from within. As McKeown stages a fight between his id and ego, the tension heats up between conversational guitar lines and minimalist repetition; threatening sing-song melody and real, palpable menace. The band members are forced in tandem only to break apart, sustaining a genuine sense of just-hidden danger throughout the whole record – except, arguably, “Headphones”, a looser moment which sees McKeown make an existential something out of nothing while waiting for someone in the car (“I should have brought a book.../My ears are bleeding from the compression on your album”).

The songs are riots of reference: “Unity Over Europe” is a slyly complex two act play about the Mitford sisters – Diana, Unity, and Nancy, in a wink to the YF canon – smashing tragic biographical detail together with allusions to Thomas Pynchon and Francis Bacon. Pynchon is also lifted to serve “Blue Sunshine”, a collision of school shooters, serial killers and fictional fuck-ups (“Fast forward to Compton/Fast forward to Pynchon/Fast forward to Columbine'”) whose buzzy guitar lines are taunting and confrontational like a smarmy teenager. The innocuous title of “My Lasagne” belies a song that exists in several time periods at once: a visit to see Guernica, 50 people with their backs to the portrait of Dora Maar; the time that Picasso painted from; the Reina Sofia and the dirty streets of the Malasaña; myth-making musicians and the myths they’re riffing off overlapping and leering at each other.

All this could be laboured in lesser hands, but cultural verbosity is second nature to The Yummy Fur, who transform all this source material into songs that are weird, sexy, funny and absurd. Meaning is not happily understood or flattened. Susan Sontag's essay Against Interpretation accompanied McKeown as he wrote this album, and she’s paraphrased in “Semolina Ballerina”, the album’s justification of artistic ambiguity. Thomson’s motorik beat leads a gathering of back-and-forth instrumental phrases – including a wiry contribution on saxophone – embodying the futility of trying to parse something definitive from repeated action. “Listen to the very first thing that’s in your head,” Sontag-via-McKeown commands directly, then slinks sideways: “Interpretation is a conversation in an unmade bed”.

The album features two more focused portraits, or at least The Yummy Fur’s version of such a thing. “Wanda” merges the life of filmmaker Barbara Loden and the title character of her semi-autobiographical 1970 feature film, with Loden’s then-husband Elia Kazan joining the fray of no-good men in her film. It’s a mix of adaptation and avant-criticism, with McKeown’s wordplay and mannered pronunciation mirroring the way that non-fiction and fiction twist around each other in the song. The title track is a series of vignettes and impressions from the lives of the band’s ‘90s inner circle, positing painter Mac McNaughton as a kind of Falstaffian ringleader. As with Piggy Wings and the recent single “New T-Shirt”, McNaughton painted the cover of Everybody Talks About The Weather – like the album’s music, the image of a coy girl in a white dress is an uncanny amalgamation of styles, suggestions and references just out of reach, as though seen in an art museum in a dream.

The album ends with two reads of the same frustration. “King of Nothing” is the closest The Yummy Fur will ever get to sludge-rock: the band melts together into a dusty, dreary haze as McKeown drowns in a drudgery of personal struggle (“Two jumpers on in Babylon/And only cats to talk to”) and the rhythmic toppling of heroes (Rowlands, Duvall, Munro). The majority of visible dirt is cleaned off for “Say Hello”, an uncharacteristic depiction of throwing the windows open after a dark night of the soul. Here, the situation is still cold and hard (“When the sun burns gold, but the heat never reaches your fingertips”) but it feels surmountable. Everybody Talks About The Weather is an unpredictable album from an unpredictable group, but ending on a moment of almost uncomplicated light is maybe its biggest surprise. - Claire Biddles (2026)

Weezer founding member and original bassist, Matt Sharp, while working on a series of “lost-albums” from the cutting room floor of his creative-life, stumbled upon a curious multitrack reel of analog tape. This mysterious reel found at the bottom of a treasure chest of other master recordings just happened to contain Weezer's very first studio sessions.

These were the very same recordings that were responsible for earning the band a record contract for their iconic debut 'Blue' album. These newly discovered sessions feature raw, vividly emotional and ecstatic versions of the band's timeless hit songs 'Say It Ain’t So' and 'Undone (The Sweater Song)'. Sharp and legendary music producer Joe Chicarrelli took these recordings to Los Angeles’ famed East/West Studios to take a deeper look into this mythic reel of 1-inch Ampex tape. What the two men quickly discovered was the original lineup (with guitarist Jason Cropper) in an infectious, explosively joyful, feral form.

Making the decision to honor the original intention of the music and the traditional technology of the era, the songs were remixed from top to bottom, from tape to vinyl, in a 100% analog process. With Sharp as producer and Chicarrelli on the mix, the result of these sessions makes up the entirety of '1192' (named after the month and year it was originally recorded.) The illuminating spirit of the performances on '1192' are guaranteed to turn the world upside down for blue album fans everywhere.

This album stands on its own as an essential entry into the band’s discography and is crucial to understanding the first chapter in Weezer's storied history.

Ryuichi Sakamoto

Music Sets You Free : A Memoir

A genre-defying artist who had acquired the status of a musical giant by the time of his death in 2023, Ryuichi Sakamoto’s long career spanned electronic, hip-hop, modern classical and pop music, inspiring artists as diverse as Questlove, Massive Attack, David Sylvian, Alva Noto and Caetano Veloso. A pivotal figure in the synthpop group Yellow Magic Orchestra during the late 70s and early 80s, Sakamoto went on to pioneer the development of ambient and electronic music in ever more experimental forms. Perhaps best known for his film scores, he won an Oscar for Bernardo Bertolucci’s The Last Emperor, written with David Byrne, and found global fame with music for Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence (in which he starred alongside David Bowie) and, later, The Revenant.

Sakamoto’s career was also marked by social activism, including campaigning for more recognition of the effects of global warming, which he witnessed first-hand during a visit to Greenland. Music Sets You Free combines the translations of Sakamoto’s two memoirs published in Japanese – Music Makes You Free and How Many More Times Will I Watch the Full Moon Rise? It offers an intimate, contemplative account of his life, from his first encounter with a piano, to his rise as a global pop star, and his later reflections on mortality and music in the wake of multiple cancer treatments and surgeries. An affirming, beautifully written testament to art, life and sound, Music Sets You Free is a lasting gift from a true musical great.

The Mary Wallopers

Paddywhackery

Dundalk’s finest The Mary Wallopers have announced details of their third album – produced by The Coral’s James Skelly and packed with their own songs - a new single and their biggest headline tour to date, including arena shows in Scotland and Ireland

Paddywhackery follows up 2023’s hugely acclaimed Irish Rock’n’Roll. That album saw the band grow in confidence, writing their own songs for the first time. Paddywhackery finds them leaping forwards to create an album that sounds like it’s been made by a band with a tightness and a power that’s unparalleled in music right now.

Recorded in an intense two-week period in Liverpool with producer James Skelly and engineer Chris Taylor, Paddywhackery lets the band’s grand wildness shine through and allows their songs to flow out of the speakers with the kind of verve and potency that will make you - the listener - press play again, and again, and again.

Andrew and Charles Hendy on the album: “It’s mainly about the fact that people would call us “paddywhackery” because we are too Irish or whatever, but it’s all very fucking hip to be Irish the last couple of years, and maybe that’s performative too, it’s very sincere. If all you do is serious songs, it sterilises everything. It becomes like there’s only one human emotion and its seriousness. People are terrified of being laughed at. If people are going to call us paddywhackery anyway, we might as well just call the album Paddywhackery. So its more of a “fuck you” than anything else. We want to spread like a virus and destroy anyone who thinks they are above The Mary Wallopers”.

Globo

Pro War (Redux)

Globo, one of the 1990s’ great electronic music outliers, return with a 'Redux' version of their sample-heavy 1995 debut album, 'Pro War', released on vinyl for the very first time.

More than three decades later 'Pro War' is a work of supreme irony and a dark inversion of John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s famous slogan, “War Is Over! If You Want It”. Written against the backdrop of Rwanda, the Gulf War and Bosnia, the album explored not only the machinery of conflict itself, but humanity’s recurring attraction to it.

Globo said: “We made 'Pro War' in 1995 and we were reacting to what we saw around us. Everything has changed since then, and yet it’s all somehow the same.” - Absurdist and intentionally darkly comic, 'Pro War' now feels as relevant as ever: a disorientating broadcast from an age of propaganda, conflict and media overload that never really ended.

The Norwich-London force that is Globo emerged in the mid-1990s as one of the UK underground’s most singular electronic acts, fusing sample collage, transmitted media, breakbeats, found sound, cinematic melody and rhythmic vocal montages into a sound that felt both human and eerily technological. While often mentioned alongside contemporaries such as Underworld, Globo occupied a far more fractured, satirical and confrontational space. Decades on, their work endures as an eerily accurate blueprint for the world that followed.

Gia Ford

A Room Within A Room

"This album is the manifestation of a desire to make something real, in a world and artistic landscape that increasingly favours convenience over craft.

"My producer and I wanted each player to leave their mark on the album, to hear everyone's personality in their performance; hear the room we recorded in, and the evidence of life within it. I miss hearing that stuff in recordings. This is the antithesis of that hyper-clean, optimised sound that is so abundant now. It's almost optimisation in the opposite direction, making it clear that some people made this music together in a room somewhere.

"'A Room Within A Room' is about the local atmospheres we own that hang around us. It's about the private rooms within us, the expansiveness of our experience, the force of our inner worlds and imaginations. It's also about the importance of process, and overall, the significance of human creation."

Rhiannon Giddens

Hope Is The Thing With Feathers

Pulitzer and Grammy-winning artist Rhiannon Giddens’ new album 'Hope is the Thing with Feathers' was inspired by the beauty of people coming together and drawing strength from each other. It was intentionally recorded live with no frills and few overdubs, just pure and essential music that captures the feeling of community, clarity, as well as the joy and power of creating together. From exploring the lineages that make American music to the community-oriented spirit in which it was conceived and recorded, in many ways the album tells the story of the last 20 years of Giddens’ life.

Railcard

Two Steps At A Time

You have to wonder why Railcard took so long to be born: their debut album feels like it should have been in your collection for years.

But it wasn’t until 2025 that Rachel Love (Dolly Mixture), Ian Button and Peter Momtchiloff (Heavenly) met at a gig, realised that they were exactly the same age, and decided that this was an excellent reason to form a new band. The shared history, the same pop references, the parallel lives… Railcard had to happen, and there was no time to lose. Two Steps At A Time - the album title and theme song - express exactly how quickly Railcard have worked since then - jumping over pavement cracks and whistling past graveyards to get these songs written, recorded and released while they are still sweet and fresh.

The band released three digital EPs in early 2026, which were then gathered onto a CD and released by Skep Wax and Slumberland. The CDs sold out very quickly. (New copies will be made available to coincide with the album release.) The critical response to a mail-order-only CD was far greater than anyone expected.

Railcard made their live debut in December 2025 and had by then recruited their fourth member: Allison Thomson (Trash Can Sinatras, The Love Band), whose flawless trumpet and swirly keyboard-playing complete the Railcard sound, allowing the band to fulfil the significant ambition and range of the songs, which are mostly co-written and often co-sung by Love and Button. “Flannelette” and “Sunday Sun”, delicate and swoony, could almost be Slapp Happy at their most Bacharach. “Foxy”, mysterious and charming, has more than a hint of Kate Bush December magic. The raucous duet “I’m A Disaster” is The Kinks meets deadpan Shangri-Las. The title track could have been an alternative theme tune for Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads. “Runaround” is like a school choir doing The Raincoats. “Unstable Neighbour”, mesmerising and insistent: it might make you think of Stereolab; we might imagine an indiepop Hawkwind. Peter Momtchiloff also contributes two wonderful songs on the album: the fragile and hallucinatory “Paper Thin” and the Love-meets-Undertones rush of “Hillman Minx”.

As with the first EPs, Railcard enlisted the sonic services of Medway psych expert Allan Crockford (of The Prisoners, JTQ and many more) who has delivered mixes that pump with vintage valve energy and reverby depth.

Two Steps At A Time is released on Skep Wax and Slumberland September 18th, and the band have a string of UK dates through the summer and Autumn.

Ian Button also performs with The Penrose Web, Heavenly, Swansea Sound and The Catenary Wires. Peter Momtchiloff also performs with Heavenly and Would-be-goods.

Biita Houdei

This Bed Was Made For Me

Shaped in the shadows and sounds of the legendary Topanga Canyon, California. The debut album from Biita Houdei is buoyed by a magic that feels wildly and beautifully untamed; wild-hearted sentiments that are shaped by the world around it, fascinated by the enchantment of it all, and delivered via a collective (harmony layered) voice that understands the complex nature of what it means to be alive in the here and now.

Produced by Haley Heynderickx, 'This Bed Was Made For Me' is a striking collection of stirring, signature folk songs animated by subtle instrumentation and orchestral flourishes. It feels lived in: vocals weave together in a beautiful harmonic dance, seasons shift, sunshine appears and bold psychedelic colours warm the horizon.

In the early stages of making her debut album, Biita Houdei knew two things: that she wanted the recordings to feel distinctly and palpably warm, and that she would sew a unique patch for every song on the album. The first of those things is subjective, though brightness pours in from all corners of This Bed Was Made For Me. The second became a laborious task she undertook throughout the process, the completion of which is testament to the slow process of it all, to the physical commitment and patience required to make a full work of art.

The patches she crafted during the making of This Bed Was Made For Me became a full quilt, one that now adorns the album’s front cover. Beneath it sits a striking collection of Houdei’s stirring, signature folk songs, brought into fruition with the help of fellow songwriter Haley Heynderickx, in her first lead production role, and the album’s producer/engineer Sahil Ansari. It’s also the first release Biita (pronounced “bee-tah”) is releasing under her newly-taken name, one that was gifted to her by her auntie and means "unique" in the Farsi language. “I proudly take this name,” Biita says of the change. “It makes me feel that much closer to my Persian heritage.”

Recorded across ten back-to-back and full days, the album touches on themes of love and heritage, of taking chances, the preciousness of time and the impact we all have on the world around us. A number of the songs were written in Topanga, California, while Biita settled into a new home as wild fires raged, and as she adjusted to a life which no longer held distinct seasonal changes, far from the Ozark Mountain home she felt so attached to. Such themes reveal themselves in a variety of ways across the album’s fourteen songs, that key sense of warmth retained in the bones of the album whether they are stepping into darkness or seeking out light.

The album feels lived in and alive; dust swirls, seasons shift, sunshine appears and is held. Biita calls it ‘psychedelic’ and there is indeed a sense of that in the world building, in the way the bold colours are always shifting. Formed of fourteen songs, and filling nearly forty-five minutes, This Bed Was Made For Me not only builds a whole world for listeners to inhabit but also implores you to stay a while. This was deliberate, indeed it’s Biita’s wish that listeners give the album dedicated time; to learn its shape, to explore it fully, away from the instant grab of playlists and skewed algorithms.

Rayna's fifth full-length under the Black Meteoric Star again serves as a vessel for her lifelong love of dance music alongside spiritual themes, drag and her formative experiences in S/M culture. Since focusing it in Berlin in 2006, the project from the former member of LCD Soundsystem has always carried an avenger quality and here that energy is aimed directly at the current political moment. Wet celebrates the long shared history between electronic music and queer leather/SM culture, imagining a future where the two are fully reconnected. The sounds are sleek, stripped back electro worlds with sci-fi overtones and retro machines used to conjure everything from proto-rawness to ice cold minimalism.

Hunter Davies

Get Back : The Boys Who Became The Beatles

They did not seem arrogant or entitled. I didn’t see them bossing around their staff or being horrid to studio assistants. But they did worry if this was all there was.

All this fame and fortune, was it really all that great? The world saw them as an overnight success, who had come from nowhere. But they knew from whence they had come. Perhaps that’s what kept them grounded.’ Hunter Davies, the only authorised biographer of The Beatles, revisits his treasured 39 notebooks filled with remarkable interviews to explore the lives of John, Paul, George and Ringo as they were growing up and coming of age.

Drawing on a wealth of never-before-revealed, intimate material, and his own experience as a boy of similar age from a working-class Northern background, Hunter now tells the story of where they came from, what it was like, how it shaped their hopes and aspirations. Hunter spent three years with The Beatles, visiting all their homes, and each of them visiting his. He also spent time with their parents, school friends, teachers, girlfriends, members of the Quarry Men and many others from their inner circle.

Their conversations often harked back to the War, with memories of air-raid shelters and rationing, to the NHS coming in, the eleven plus and grammar schools, and council house life in the 1950s. We all know what they became famous for, but here Hunter takes us into the much more private world of their formative years, for this colourful, richly detailed, personal portrait of the young boys who were destined to come together and revolutionise music and pop culture.

Jack Wyllie

Eternal Spring

Jack Wyllie, saxophonist, flautist, and composer, is perhaps best known as the co-founder of Mercury Prize-nominated widescreen minimalists Portico Quartet and as one-third of the revelatory ambient improvising trio Szun Waves. Yet his distinctive voice on flute, soprano saxophone, and tenor saxophone marks him out as a key figure in contemporary music. A keen collaborator whose projects have drawn on ambient, fourth-world, electronica, and modern classical influences, 'Eternal Spring' is the first recording released under his own name.

Featuring collaborators as diverse as former Portico Quartet bandmates drummer Duncan Bellamy and bassist Milo Fitzpatrick, iconoclastic Polish artist Hania Rani, cellist Dobrawa Czocher, and Australian mezzo-soprano Lotte Betts-Dean, 'Eternal Spring' draws inspiration both from Wyllie’s love of verdant nature and from the idea of a constant, flickering sense of hope. Its compositions balance elevating melodies with cyclical rhythms while unashamedly reaching for something hopeful and beautiful.

Shimmering, rippling, budding, and blossoming—yet still appealingly familiar—'Eternal Spring' is one of those rare records that reveals the magic all around us by gently removing us from our everyday circumstances.

Whether welcoming a new day or painting night skies, 'Eternal Spring' celebrates life and its cyclical nature. Indeed, the music not only demanded the title for itself but also compelled Wyllie to release it under his given name.

“I realised I’m ready to own it,” he says.

As likely to provoke references to ambient and jazz as it is to classical music and post-rock, the album is united by an essential bucolic sense of renewal and replenishment. It also embraces a wide range of touchstones, from John Adams to John Surman, from Ryuichi Sakamoto to James Holden. Wyllie additionally acknowledges Keith Jarrett’s Arbour Zena, recorded with Jan Garbarek and Charlie Haden, as well as a kinship with South Korean director Kim Ki-duk’s serene film Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring.

Having first mapped out the compositions on piano and synthesizers, Wyllie developed their nascent rhythms alongside Portico Quartet drummer Duncan Bellamy, finding confidence in the project’s restorative intentions. Recording sessions subsequently expanded to Saint Thomas Church in Clapton, Max Richter’s Studio Richter Mahr, and finally London’s Fish Factory.

“It was like I’d found a natural space between all my projects,” he says, “something I could hone in on.”

Voodoocuts

Riddim Freak / Work This

Berlin-based edit specialist Voodoocuts knows exactly how to tease out the best bits of any of the source tunes he works with. He's been doing it for years now on labels like Juice on Wax and Uluru, and now heads to Ritmo for his latest 7" bomb. 'Riddim Freak' gets this one going with a reggaeton rework of a Missy Elliott classic. It's an inspired pairing that has elastic bass and trampoline-like kicks with rave horns, fat-assed brass band energy and plenty of that original Missy attitude. 'Work This' takes another of the rap queens' most welcome jams and flips and reverses it into an early electro and hip-hop blend with old school drums and many magnificent samples all bringing it to life in full colour.

Dollar Brand / Don Cherry / Carlos Ward

The Third World-Underground - 2026 Reissue

Wewantsounds is honoured to announce the first-ever international release of the legendary collaboration between Abdullah Ibrahim (Dollar Brand) and Don Cherry, featuring Carlos Ward. Following Ibrahim’s recent passing, this long-awaited edition now stands as a timely tribute to his profound legacy. Recorded live in 1972 at Jazzhus Montmartre in Copenhagen, this highly sought-after album was originally released exclusively in Japan in 1974 on the cult jazz label Trio Records via its revered Nadja imprint. An essential chapter in the musicians’ discographies, the performance skilfully blends jazz with rich South African rhythms and global influences. This definitive reissue features fully remastered audio, the original artwork, and a booklet with new bilingual liner notes by Jacques Denis.

'The Third World-Underground' captures a rare convergence of three singular musical voices: Don Cherry’s nomadic imagination, Abdullah Ibrahim’s deeply rooted South African lyricism, and Carlos Ward’s muscular alto saxophone. By 1972 when this magical album was recorded, Cherry and Ibrahim had already spent a decade redefining jazz by pushing beyond its foundations and embracing a broader, global musical language.

Cherry—who had helped revolutionise jazz alongside Ornette Coleman—was in constant search of new musical pathways. Drawing inspiration from the traditional sounds of Turkey, India, Africa, and beyond, he cultivated a fluid, borderless approach that expanded far beyond the trumpet, incorporating voice, percussion, and communal improvisation into his work. Ibrahim brought an equally profound sensibility. A spiritual heir to Duke Ellington, shaped by Cape Town gospel, township jive, and the emotional weight of exile, he transformed the piano into an instrument capable of both celebration and lament.

Having first crossed paths in the mid-1960s, the musicians shared a deep mutual affinity that culminated in this performance. Recording under a name that reflected the era’s growing decolonization movements, the trio created a fearless, boundary-defying statement across seven hypnotic pieces, including 'Don’s Song' and 'Bra Joe From Kilimanjaro'. The music unfolds as a continuous conversation: Ibrahim’s cyclical piano figures provide an emotional foundation while Cherry and Ward drift, soar, and chant in ecstatic unison, searching collectively for new ground.

Originally released in Japan in 1974 on Trio Records, the album was never reissued on vinyl, gradually attaining cult status among collectors and fans of Don Cherry and Dollar Brand alike. As Jacques Denis writes in the new liner notes, “More than half a century later, the music in this album, emancipated from all preordained order, still surprises, offering a delight of the present moment that lingers long after the needle leaves the groove.”

Freed from convention, 'The Third World-Underground' remains a restless and deeply human work of collective discovery whose resonance continues to unfold with every listen.

Massive Attack & Tom Waits

Boots On The Ground

Massive Attack and Tom Waits release a new collaboration 'Boots on the Ground', with an exclusive to vinyl B-side provided by Waits – a droll and sardonic spoken word piece entitled 'The Fly'.

An accompanying film created by Massive Attack (working with US photo artist "thefinaleye") will be available via the band’s digital platforms. This evocative, high-intensity montage portrays a momentous American epoch that is yet to be named, and comes in the aftermath of the largest public protests in American history - focused on opposition to ICE raids, the militarisation of domestic forces, and state authoritarianism.

'Boots on the Ground' is the first Massive Attack music distributed under a Spotify exemption policy. Further releases are scheduled prior and subsequent to the band’s run of live performances, including their forthcoming European tour and summer festival headlines.

In keeping with the band's sector leading efforts to reduce carbon emissions across both live activity and recorded output, Massive Attack have partnered with Good Neighbor to produce an ‘EcoSonic’ pressing. Manufactured using 100% recycled PET (rPET) rather than traditional PVC, the record is fully recyclable and produced via an energy-efficient injection moulding process - a significant shift in record manufacturing. Packaging follows the same approach, with sleeves made from 100% recycled, FSC®-certified paper stock and outer slipcases produced from recycled polyethylene.

2K88 | Lauren Duffus | Rainy Miller | Bianca Scout

Everything Always Changes, For We’re Truly Here

There's a dance scene in Tadeusz Konwicki's Kafkaesque 1965 drama film 'Salto' that lodged itself in Przemysław Jankowiak's head while he was conceiving'Everything Always Changes, For We're Truly Here'. The film plays like a dream and the dance works almost like the payoff, a haunting, poignant moment that subtly references the title itself, which loosely translates as 'leap'. "I like listening through images and seeing through sound," explains Jankowiak, who's better known as 2K88. His music has always been cinematic, but this album in particular, made alongside acclaimed British artists Lauren Duffus, Rainy Miller and Bianca Scout, plays like slow cinema, meditating on themes that smolder evocatively without ever fully igniting. It's best described as hypnagogic R&B, a reverie of affecting vignettes pieced together from unexpectedly vivid elements: sensual vocal hooks, free-flowing raps, submerged rhythms and rough, craggy atmospheres. The four contributors pass sounds and memories back-and-forth, imagining melancholy sci-fi hymns, inverted pop songs and neo-trip-hop outlines that melt away at the edges, falling into a captivating rhythm of their own.

The project was originally commissioned by Unsound in an effort to match up Polish and British artists. Jankowiak had already released 'SHAME', an album that reflected on the impact of Polish rap in the late 1990s and early 2000s, juxtaposing these elements with the aesthetics of UK club music, so presented himself as the obvious figurehead. Miller, Duffus and Scout were at the top of his wish list of collaborators and before long, the quartet were on their way to his home city of Gdynia for a residency, where they began to figure out the harmony between their respective approaches. It was planned as a live performance at first, with 2K88 overseeing and corralling the ideas from each of his allies. Miller, who is widely acclaimed for his unique fusion of rap, noise and ambient music on albums such as last year's 'Joseph, What Have You Done?', would add poetic, inclement contemplations; Duffus, whose weightless, genre-blending productions have seen her release on AD93 and tour with indie rap heavyweight MIKE, provided cloudy but self-assured vocal hooks; while Scout, a producer and performer who shivered between gothic pop and medieval ambiance on 2023's 'The Heart of the Anchoress' offered haunted textures and desolate chorals.

"I think in the back of all our minds was a possible release if the collaboration worked out well," laughs Unsound's Mat Schulz. "And of course it did." After the live performance in Kraków, the four artists turned the dream into a reality, projecting the same ideas onto 10 fully developed tracks. And on the opener, 'Everything Always Changes', the concept solidifies, with coarse noise rubbing against Scout and Duffus's airy vocal tones and booming analog bass provoking tension before Miller's familiar voice cuts through the clouds. "There's a war where the sea meets the sky," he sibilates, "where the lines blur into fantastical dissonance." His imagery matches Jankowiak's faded soundscape, bringing to mind a half-remembered, long-promised history lost to time and politics. "It's trapped in this romantic haze," says Miller. "It conjures images of fictional seaside towns, ghosts of past grandeur living through imaginary romances in the present." And his voice returns on 'Creeping Thistle', AutoTuned to curve gracefully around sparsely populated, burned out terrain: ominous synths, wailing police sirens and reverb that seems to swallow everything around it.

On 'The Quiet's Song' familiar R&B hits and stabs are isolated and surrounded by ominous negative space that Scout impedes on with her reserved incantation. Loose, casual piano themes wisp through the frame like smoky exhalations and those sirens still groan away somewhere in the distance. The various threads are knotted into a more legible form on 'Poetic Fallacy', when Jankowiak's decelerated beats overlap with heartbreaking half-speed melodies and Duffus's elegant hooks. Scout takes the mic for a moment and a broken de-tuned guitar picks out the remnants of a riff. But it's the aptly-titled 'Salto' that gives the album its nucleus, fixating on Jankowiak's all-important visual reference and using its imagery to power a genuine pop miniature, a gauzy, abstract modern R&B anthem that's as impressionistic and suggestive as Konwicki's's film.

Mick Harvey & Amanda Acevedo

Psychedelia In White

'Psychedelia in White', the third album from former member of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Mick Harvey and longtime collaborator Amanda Acevedo, is a natural evolution from their 2023 duet debut, 'Phantasmagoria in Blue'.

Composed primarily of original tracks, the album explores themes of mysticism, mythology, love, and loss. This project pushed the duo into wilder, more experimental territories, resulting in an album that is intricately layered and lavishly textured. The lyrics draw on dreamlike imagery and mythological tropes, whilst carrying a personal message of hope, seeing them yearn for something better and escape from the chaos of the present.

Standout moments include ‘Perfect Storm’, a richly layered alt-rock reverie born from a transatlantic collaboration with Canadian composer Peter McNestry; ‘Song for Aurora’, a glam-inflected homage to Marc Bolan built on T-Rex references and rescued from the vaults; and ‘The Greatest Delight’, an intimate track conjured from Acevedo’s visions of shadow people and otherworldly lovers.

Honest and adventurous, 'Psychedelia in White' is an album that tests its makers' boundaries, and invites its listeners to do the same.

Chat Pile

Who Loves The Sun

In a world increasingly shaped by disposable content, Chat Pile answer with something defiantly real and organic, a mentality that permeates 'Who Loves The Sun', their third full-length record. Since the band’s formation just over six years ago, the Oklahoma City-based quartet Chat Pile has grown from a scrappy passion project into one of the defining heavy acts to emerge from the 2020s underground. Ray B. (vocals), L. Manhole (guitar), Stin (bass), and Cap’n Ron (drums) create a crushing, crass, and cathartic take on noise rock that captures a raw, undeniably human essence in an age marked by technological overreach and the cold state of society. Nothing about 'Who Loves The Sun' feels synthetic.

Whereas their debut album 'God’s Country' depicted a particularly American flavor of dread, and the follow up 'Cool World' showed a cruel planet defined by global systemic violence, 'Who Loves The Sun' peels the skin back on how collective indifference defines this new century. Spanning imagery of coastlines devouring cities, dead-end jobs, and submission to data-driven inauthenticity, the album dissects the apathy-bloated state of 21st-century existence as a slow-motion apocalypse.

As with much of Chat Pile’s work, Oklahoma City itself looms over the album like a character, its sprawling isolation, economic contradictions, and underlying sense of decay embedded in the fabric of the record. The perfect allegory for the thematic essence of 'Who Loves The Sun' is the photo embossed on the record’s cover, where Devon Tower, a glassy, largely vacant monolith, looms high above the Oklahoma City skyline while a burnt-out home or storefront envelops the foreground.

The album remains lyrically and sonically confrontational, but Chat Pile approached the songwriting with hooks in mind, drawing on melodic tones of pre-2000s indie rock, alt-rock, and new wave. From the blood-soaked vocal passages of 'Christabel ’26' to the eerie trip-hop pulse of 'Same Rules', 'Who Loves The Sun' is deeply human despite its allusions to a dying, divided .

Lily Seabird

Lightspheres On Their Way

“Sometimes life gets so dark, it starts to feel like a bad trip,” Lily Seabird reflects on the seasons that led to the making of her new record, 'Lightspheres on Their Way'. Seabird’s third record in as many years for Lame-O Records deals in mortality and reverence for the innately human, piecing her troubadour-ish folk to a grungy rock sentimentality. Though born from a period of reckoning and renewal, Seabird orients 'Lightspheres on Their Way' around a holistic realism that buoys the spirit, with loose, earthy arrangements that meet intensity and depth with both twangy spaciousness and searing drive.

Across the record’s nine tracks, the Vermont-based singer and songwriter orbits around the concept of “lightspheres,” a catalysing presence or force that visits time and time again and shifts stories, feelings and trajectories. “A lightsphere can be so many things” says Seabird, “ an actual light like a star, the sun, a UFO; headlights, a flashlight in the night; but also life, living things, people, relationships.”

Though 'Lightspheres on Their Way' marks a moment of ascension for Seabird’s songwriting, she asserts that “the most emotional parts of the record are instrumental.” The Crazy Horse stomp of 'Portal to the Past' and others stretch into spacious, jammy interludes and outros where Seabird and Rick Soszynski revel in fuzzy, gritty guitars. They act as moments of emotional decompression, like rolling down the windows and surrendering to the expanse of the open road. 'Lightspheres...' is a testament to the depths one can reach in their art when you stop trying to tell the story of what happened to you, and instead start talking about who you are.

You Were Never Much Of A Dancer - 2026 Reissue

Reissue of Gwenifer Raymond's debut 'You Were Never Much Of A Dancer' from 2018. Speaking about how her musical journey, Gwenifer says "When I was about eight years old a pretty formative thing happened to me, my mum bought me a cassette tape of Nirvana’s 'Nevermind'. Being so young I'd had no real interest in music prior to that, but I did have a ‘My First Sony’ cassette player that I used to listen to audiobooks. Anyway, I put the tape in, pressed play, and what I heard blew my little 8 year old mind. I don't know what it was about that wall of sound that so captured me, but I spent many hours hyperactively running around the house with headphones on, volume at full blast, and Nevermind on repeat. It was either for Christmas or my birthday that year, that I asked for a guitar.

"I spent all my teenage years playing either guitar or drums in various punk and rock outfits around the Welsh valleys, but around that time I was also getting seriously into older stuff, Dylan, The Velvet Underground and the like. Through those cheap compilation CDs you could get then, I found that a common influence amongst these guys was pre-war delta and country blues, as well as Appalachian music. Eventually I stumbled upon Mississippi John Hurt, Skip James and Roscoe Holcomb, and they became the holy trinity of musicians I so wanted to able to play like. Eventually, I tracked down a blues man in Cardiff who could teach me and it was in studying these guys that I was introduced to John Fahey and the whole American Primitive thing.

"I’ve always loved being in bands and the sonic chemistry it produces, but at the same time it’s always a bit of a compromise that those sounds in my head have to pass through and be translated by someone else’s. Sometimes it can be for the better, but sometimes not so much. American Primitive was the first time it had occurred to me that you didn’t really need anything more than one solo instrument to fully express yourself, especially when those feelings and moods refuse to be articulated in words, sometimes it's a mystery to yourself what it is you’re expressing. I still play in hard rock and punk bands and love to wail and hit my guitar with a complete lack of any subtlety or nuance, but in the end I think that all these things are really part of a circle, feeding back into itself. It’s all just a lineup of strange mutations."

Immersion

What Is Lost Will Return

Defining the moment in sound and vision, Immersion are a snapshot of ‘the now’. Through constant reinvention, they have honed their sound into a startling present that references their past but refuses to live in it.

This perfect synthesis of their styles boldly creates a brave new world for core couple Colin Newman and Malka Spigel, along with satellite musicians Matt Schulz (Holy F*ck), whose drumming strongly features on many tracks, and Ed Chivers (AK/DK), who makes a guest appearance drumming on ‘Breaking Free, Diversity, Evolution’.

What Is Lost Will Return is the second ‘pure’ Immersion release in as many years and heralds their third UK tour since 2024. It follows 2025’s acclaimed WTF??, with the title reflecting the fact you can only say “What The F*ck??” so many times before looking beyond to see what endures.

With What Is Lost Will Return, the ever-productive ‘life and art partner’ duo present a reflective album of modular moods and stripped-down electronic psychedelia, leavened by a clipped guitar that you can nonetheless dance to, defying these chaotic times. It perfectly captures the yin and yang of the moment – or as Colin and Malka explain, “The emotion we feel the album invokes is a poignant mixture of joy and melancholy.”

“What Is Lost Will Return is an album of grooves, observational snapshots, hypnotic repetition, joyful creation, intoxicating melody and mystery, all threaded together by a fascination with new sounds and textures. It's both an underground gem and an album that bends pop into new shapes.”
John Robb, [June 2026, MCR]

Windy & Carl Meet Optigan Conservatory

Windy & Carl Meet Optigan Conservatory

Windy & Carl Meet Optigan Conservatory is a purposefully misleading title for the first collaborative work from four friends who met close to thirty years prior. All active participants in Michigan independent music circles since the early ’90s, Windy & Carl are well-known for their foundational contributions to drift and guitar-born ambient sounds, with songs characterized by deep connections to the natural world and a hard to pin down yet impossible to miss emotional vulnerability.

Optigan Conservatory is another duo, made up of Frank Rotondo (leader of Detroit area free music ensemble Laughing Gas) and Fred Thomas (songwriter and producer most often associated with his band Saturday Looks Good To Me), who have been making minimalistic and time-defiant electro-acoustic sounds since 2016. The album came together almost effortlessly in a very short timeframe, but the idea had been building steam for many a year.

In the last days of 2024, Windy & Carl and Optigan Conservatory got together, falling into a mode of sound creation that was almost hyper-natural. Without any discussion outside of the usual stream of jokes and chatter, the quartet set up and started communicating. Added to Windy & Carl’s hovering augmented chord voicings and vaporous guitar drones were electric piano and synth bedding from Frank & Fred. After the initial sessions, all involved parties took time to consider what they’d made, adding new layers and editing the pieces into more definitive articulations.

A beautiful and hermetic energy larger than the sum of its parts is captured in the process. There are echoes of the earliest releases from Windy & Carl as well as refractions of the same opacity that surfaced in the early kranky catalogue.

Jim Kerr & Charlie Burchill With Graeme Thomson

Our Secrets Are The Same : Friendship & Fame At The Heart Of Simple Minds

The long-awaited memoir from Simple Minds' founder members and lifelong collaborators, Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill. A candid, moving and kinetic story of self-realisation through the power of music, Our Secrets Are The Same is the remarkable joint memoir by Simple Minds' founder members, Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill. It not only reveals the inner workings of one of the most innovative and successful British bands of the past half-century, but the deeply personal tale of an extraordinary friendship which powered teenage dreams into visionary action. Exploring key songs, places, years and events in the Simple Minds story, and told in the distinct voices of both men, Our Secrets Are The Same explores a bond which has encompassed stratospheric highs and humbling lows, marriages and divorces, fatherhood, fickle fame, tricky inter-band dynamics, the occasional explosive bust up, and a ruthless streak to rival the Sicilian Mafia.

Their connection is grounded in shared experiences and a set of values and codes so deeply ingrained they don't need to be spoken. For Our Secrets Are The Same is not just the story of two rock stars, but of two sons, brothers, partners and parents who have never forgotten where they come from. Two men who have remained deeply bonded to their roots and each other, while fulfilling a teenage dream to form a world-class live band and take their music around the globe.

Fascinating and funny, evocative and inspiring, this unforgettable memoir captures a unique journey through life and music, and a friendship like no other.

The World Was A Mess But His Hair Was Perfect : The Last Indie Music Scene 2000-2010

At the turn of the millennium, Britain was suffering from a post-britpop hangover. The whirlwind successes of Oasis and Blur had fizzled out and the British music industry, stagnant and directionless, was churning out bland singer-songwriters, identikit girl-groups and boybands - music culture was a vacuum, waiting to be filled. However, across the Atlantic, something was brewing.

In New York City, The Strokes were exploding across the music scene, igniting a new wave of rock'n'roll that catalysed and inspired a new genre: indie rock. Suddenly, kids from both sides of the Atlantic wanted to pick up an instrument, cause a ruckus and join a band. Spawned out of regional D.I.Y scenes and the success of genuinely independent labels and venues, this is the story of 'the last indie scene' in the UK.

Based on thrilling, informative and often hilarious interviews, The World Was A Mess But His Hair Was Perfect chronicles the legendary gigs, records, parties, drugs and cheap decadence that coalesced to form a messy, dissolute movement and subculture. An impactful and entertaining social history, author Janine Warren conducts personal interviews with core movers and shakers from the era: from members of the Libertines, Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party and The Cribs, as well as pivotal figures such as controversial NME editor Conor McNicholas and superstar producer Paul Epworth.

Individually, they are captivating accounts, snapshots of key moments in Joni's long career. But read together they offer a window into the mind of a truly original artist - told through her own words and the memories of those who were there with her.

Compiled and guided by BBC journalist and author Tom Hagler, River of Words: Joni Mitchell at the BBC is the story of an incredible life lived on the airwaves.

You’ll Be Fine - 2026 Repress

Hot Mulligan is a ride-or-die testament to staying true to yourself. When the emo band formed in 2014 and cut their teeth playing house shows and naming songs by closing their eyes and typing into auto-correct on their phones, no one expected they’d be selling out thousand-cap venues, one of their scene’s most respected bands a decade later.

Le Ren

Don't Be Funny Without Me

On 'Don’t Be Funny Without Me', Le Ren tells us, “I love the man I wanted to be,” as a matter of tender fact. She is funny while devastating, self-aware and a little self-deceiving. Across the record, she holds those contradictions close: shameless and ashamed, honest but still searching for a version of the truth that hurts a little less.

'Don't Be Funny With Me' is an album about love, jealousy, and the uneasy ways the two often intertwine. After touring the world opening for artists like Jeff Tweedy, Devendra Banhart and Men I Trust, Le Ren decided to return to Canada to make 'Don't Be Funny With Me'. Recorded in Mountain Grove, Ontario, the album is self-produced alongside old friends Fez Gielen and Jonas Bonetta. Le Ren’s lyrics are imbued with that northern endurance, like watching the sunset fade behind the cracked asphalt on avenue du Parc, or from the parking lot of your favourite On Route.

Where 'Leftovers' was unadorned, evocative in its simplicity, 'Don't Be Funny With Me' presents a fuller sound— fiddles, drums, layers of harmony. Powerfully capturing Le Ren’s musical evolution, 'Don't Be Funny With Me' is more expansive, more experienced, and more earnest, representing the artist’s claim to the fuller, wisened life she has earned. Le Ren’s signature angelic vocals are newly complemented by a full band. With driving lead guitar and multiple vocals woven into rich harmony, the record feels like the lovechild of an 80s-era Emmylou Harris and the indignant Gillian Welch of her 'Time (The Revelator)' years. Aching and intoxicating, 'Don’t Be Funny Without Me' is a post-breakup road trip with your best friend: no fixed destination, a trunk full of baggage (literal and figurative) and mottled sunlight warming your face through the car window.

Horse Feathers

Words Are Dead - 20th Anniversary Edition

In 2026, Horse Feathers’ debut album, 'Words Are Dead', celebrates its 20th anniversary with a deluxe reissue that is completely remastered and pressed on an exclusive vinyl color. It also includes a replica of their original six-song demo CD in the package, along with a deluxe foil-stamped LP jacket.

In the years following 'Words Are Dead', Horse Feathers quietly built a body of work defined by patience and evolution rather than reinvention. Records like 'House With No Home', 'Thistled Spring', and 'Cynic’s New Year' expanded their sonic palette without abandoning the restraint that first set them apart.

By the time of 'Appreciation', the band had begun to open its sound outward, introducing richer arrangements and a subtle warmth that suggested growth without rupture. Through it all, Ringle remained a steady center, writing songs that favored emotional precision over spectacle. The reissue of 'Words Are Dead' does not attempt to rewrite that history. Instead, it brings the origin point back into focus, offering a rare chance to hear where it all began while recognizing how far the project has traveled since. Revisiting the album now, with two decades of distance, reveals not just a beginning but a foundation. The same careful interplay, the same attention to space and tone, still anchors the band’s work today. In that sense, the reissue feels less like a retrospective and more like a continuation. A reminder that some records do not age so much as they wait for the right moment to be heard again.

Interpol

This Mirror Weighs A Ton

'This Mirror Weighs a Ton' finds Interpol turning inward while continuing to move forward. Across the record, reflection, distortion and perception become a lens through which familiar shapes are refracted into something slightly alien, as if seen through a different kind of light. Synthesizers, strings, acoustic guitars and percussion are integrated into the fabric of the songs, expanding the palette while revealing colors already latent within it. Nothing feels imposed. Instead, the additions deepen the band’s language of restraint, atmosphere and tension. The result is an album that feels expansive, uncanny and alive with forward motion, not a reinvention but an evolution that allows Interpol to continue transforming without losing their identity.

Sarah Davachi

The Will Of Tongues

'The Will of Tongues' is the new studio album by Sarah Davachi, and it is certainly her most ambitious to date, spanning over two hours, available as a triple vinyl set, or double compact disc in hardback book style packaging. The album features five new works for historical pipe organs, three choral pieces, a suite of "interludes" for various microtonal ensembles, and a longform chamber piece for strings, organ, and tape. In addition to Davachi performing on organ, the album also features an incredible group of musicians from across the US and Europe, including Whitney Johnson (viola), Eyvind Kang (viola), Lucy Railton (cello), Diapason (an experimental brass ensemble from Los Angeles), Phaedrus (a Renaissance flute consort from Switzerland), and Chamber Choir Ireland.

The album engages several different compositional methods and concepts, all rooted in the minimalist tradition from which Davachi primarily operates, but underscoring 'The Will of Tongues' as a combined body of work is a deep reverence for the act of listening. This collection of music is not easy listening, and it's not meant to be – when long durations and a reduction of materials are at play, the ear and mind are forced to confront sound itself and the significant mental spaces that it continually gives rise to. 'The Will of Tongues' is thus a celebration of iterative listening and of extreme confrontation, of intimate aural experience and its vast psychic horizons.

John Carroll Kirby

Piano Works 2016-2026

'Piano Works 2016-2026' collects fourteen impromptu pieces by composer and producer John Carroll Kirby, written whenever he had the opportunity to sit at a piano while on the road.

These mostly solo works for piano were recorded in Los Angeles, Rome, Tokyo, Wollongong (Australia), rural New Zealand and London.

'Piano Works 2016-2026' marks a departure from the full-band sound of recent albums Blowout and Septet, which Kirby has spent the past years performing live around the world. The album is a study in piano repertoire: Baroque, Romantic, Impressionist, jazz, minimalist, atonal, and more. Most of the pieces have an impromptu feel – improvised, or meant to sound improvised, or at least written in one sitting.

The collected pieces on 'Piano Works 2016-2026' are a document of Kirby’s life as a piano player and touring musician, and “serve as the melodic / harmonic lexicon for what would inform all my other compositions of the past ten years.”

Black Duck With Elena Setién

Black Duck With Elena Setién

The Chicago trio of Black Duck is a natural fit for collaboration with acclaimed Basque musician Elena Setién. Black Duck’s bassist/guitarist Douglas McCombs, guitarist Bill MacKay and drummer Charles Rumback have been lauded for their adaptability as live performers and collaborators for decades, performing in countless ensembles from Tortoise to Brokeback to collaborations with Ryley Walker, Bill Callahan, James Singleton and many more. Setién honed her improvisational skills in duo Little Red Suitcase before going on to collaborate with the likes of Steve Gunn, Mary Lattimore, and Glenn Kotche (Wilco) to name a few. Black Duck and Elena Setién’s combined preternatural ability to converse at the boundaries of improvisation and composition makes for fertile ground in which every subtle gesture carries weight.

On their debut, self-titled collaborative release, Black Duck and Elena Setién alchemize the ease of their live chemistry and their wealth of experience into a refined menagerie. The quartet first played together in early 2025 having only just met, trading off sitting in on each other’s sets on a run of shows throughout Spain. Recorded just a few months later in Chicago at Palisade with Nick Broste after only a few hours of rehearsal, the record embraces the spontaneity of those performances. The freewheeling compositions take on added layers of depth with skillfully layered overdubs. The album perfectly balances the openness and core electric energy shared between each musician in the room and sumptuous, detailed arrangements.

Together, Black Duck and Elena Setién sounds like a singular unit and four powerhouses all at once. Their collective compositional acumen makes for an exquisite diversity of sounds and movements that all cohere into a singular album only they could make. A gem of collective work, the record is the sound of a quartet of masters of their craft moving in tandem.

Saul Williams

Leap Life

'Leap Life' is Saul Williams’ first solo album in over 10 years and marks a major return for one of the most influential voices in spoken word and experimental music. Named after Saul’s leap year birthday, the project has been carefully sequenced by composer and producer Carlos Niño as a fully immersive, front-to-back listening experience.

The album expands Saul’s sound into electronic and ambient territories while remaining rooted in spoken word, with rich sound design built from nature recordings, environmental textures, and expansive instrumentation. It also sees Saul step further into the role of producer, drawing influence from Fela Kuti, Black church traditions, and South African electronic music.

The record features a standout cast of collaborators including Kamasi Washington, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Moor Mother, Gonjasufi, and Surya Botofasina, alongside material developed with Robert Del Naja (Massive Attack). Released via Big Dada, the album marks a full-circle moment with the label where Saul originally launched his solo career.

Asher White

Love Aggregates

For any other artist, an album like Asher White’s Love Aggregates might come out of a conscious push to treat no idea as off-limits, to make something bold and new. Jubilant art-funk about cocaine addiction—absolutely. Swooning orchestral pop about Jerry Garcia—why not? Rippling electronic noise, jazzy brushed drums, an elderly motorcyclist with dementia, a profoundly emotional bass solo—put them all in one song. There are threadbare folk tunes, glammed-up power-pop bangers, “Sir Duke” horn charts, Morton Feldman string arrangements, layers of guitar feedback like violins made of liquid chrome. Yes, for another artist, Love Aggregates might be the most adventurous album in their catalog. For Asher White, it’s what passes for settling down.

White is 25 years old and has been making records—writing, recording, producing, and playing almost everything herself—for over a decade. She’d released two dozen of them on Bandcamp before catching the indie-rock industry’s attention with 2024’s Home Constellation Study and last year’s 8 Tips for Full Catastrophe Living. The latter album’s dizzy eclecticism and formidable craft landed her on Rolling Stone’s Future 25 list with the likes of xaviersobased and Oklou, along with a slew of other accolades. That came as something of a surprise to White, who didn’t craft the chaotic 8 Tips with a breakthrough in mind. Love Aggregates feels like a chance, for one of the most thrilling musical talents of her generation, at a more deliberate introduction.

She wrote and recorded her new album while her previous one was gathering
momentum, tinkering in the DIY recording studio where she always works, acutely conscious now that people would be listening to whatever she came up with. At around the same time, her years-long romantic relationship ended in a flurry of betrayal and addiction, her first experience of devastating heartbreak. Even so, Love Aggregates is not a bitter album about wallowing or seething, but instead making use of those impulses as raw materials in work that transcends the specificity of its origins, fashioning them into something surprising and new.

Stephanie Phillips

We Were Here : A History Of Black People And Alternative Music

A reclamation of rock'n'roll for the Black artists who tore up and re-wrote its rules, by musician, arts and culture journalist and die-hard alternative music superfan, Stephanie Phillips. We Were Here promises to rip up our received history of rock 'n' roll and alternative music and repopulate it with the extraordinary Black artists and influential figures who truly steered its course from the 1930s to the present day, including vital figures Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Little Richard, Jimi Hendrix, Tina Turner, Betty Davis, Poly Styrene, Bad Brains and beyond. As well as reflecting on why Black people have continued to be drawn to alternative music despite their ongoing ostracization from it by the white mainstream industry, Phillips argues that there would be no alternative music without Black artists, and that its future lies in the hands of Gen Z Black musicians experimenting with the boundaries of what punk, metal, hardcore and indie could be.
