'Faithfull Forever' is a 1966 studio album by Marianne that was only issued in the United States. This RSD pressing marks its first U.K release and it has not been re-issued on vinyl in the U.S. In 2024 Marianne celebrates her 60th anniversary in music, and for fans of her Decca catalogue ëFaithfull ForeverÖí is a must. The album is a defining moment of the baroque pop sound and features some of Marianneís best 60ís performances with interpretations of songs by writers particularly suited to her interpretive gifts. Standout compositions include ëWith You In Mindí by Jackie De Shannon who had previously written ëCome And Stay With Meí for her, Donovan contributes ëIn The Night Timeí aka ëHampstead Incidentí which was released 6 months in advance of his own recording, Bob Lindís ëCountingí arranged by Jack Nitzsche and ëTomorrowís Callingí written for her by Eric Woolfson later of the Alan Parsonís project. The album features some unexpected song choices from Marianne including a pop arrangement of Ewan MacCollís ëThe First Time Ever I Saw Your Faceí originally recorded for her second folk LP ëNorth Country Maidí, her reading of the Love theme from ëThe Umbrellas of Cherbourgí soundtrack performed in the original French, and a foray into jazz on the Herzog Jr / Kitchins classic ëSome Other Springí which will be a revelation to those who only know Marianne as a singer of folk pop. This track along with ëLucky Girlí by Les Reed and Barry Mason and Norma Tanegaís ëIím The Skyí have never been released in the UK, and are still unavailable elsewhere. 7 of the albums 12 tracks are also appearing on vinyl for the first time since the original release. All tracks have been remastered from the original tapes by Andrew Batt, and this special RSD release comes with detailed sleeve notes featuring exclusive commentary by Marianne herself and new artwork based on the original sleeve shot by the master French photographer Jean-Marie Perier.

First global vinyl pressing for Marianne Faithfull’s final album for Island records. 1995’s ‘A Secret Life’ received its only vinyl issue in Greece, and copies are hard to come by with collectors now expected to pay anywhere between £50 and £200 for a copy.

The album was a new direction for Marianne and was written with the Italian composer Angelo Badalamenti, known for his atmospheric scores to David Lynch’s films. The result successfully marries his multi-layered orchestral production style with Marianne’s trademark voice and poetic lyrics to create a wholly original and timeless album.

Marianne’s other 90's albums ‘20th Century Blues’ and ‘Vagabond Ways’ have recently appeared on vinyl, so this could join the dots for collectors.

      • Album never pressed on vinyl outside of Greece

      • Greek second hand copies sell for between £50-£100

      • One of Marianne's most original collaborations essentially available on vinyl for the first time.

      Marianne Faithfull

      Negative Capability

‘Negative Capability ’ is Marianne Faithfull’s 21st album and the most emotionally powerful of her 54-year recording career. Facing down arthritis and bolstered by collaborators including Warren Ellis, Nick Cave, Rob Ellis, Ed Harcourt and Mark Lanegan, ‘Negative Capability’ is charged with brutal honesty and autobiographical reflection as she addresses losing old friends, her loneliness living in her adopted city of Paris, and love.

Driven by her supernatural reinterpretative skills, florid lyricism, battle against the pain she lives with, and realised with her stellar group of musicians, ‘Negative Capability’ is Marianne’s unflinchingly honest and relentlessly beautiful late-life masterpiece. The stark emotional heft, exquisitely framed by ornately sensitive musical backdrops can only be likened to the late-life works by Johnny Cash or Leonard Cohen.

Recorded at La Frette studio on the outskirts of Paris, ‘Negative Capability’ is inexorably overshadowed by grief at losing close friends from the ‘60s such as Anita Pallenberg, Martin Stone and Cream album designer Martin Sharp. It’s produced by both Rob Ellis – the PJ Harvey producer who’s been Marianne’s collaborator for five years -and Warren Ellis from Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Warren’s violin blesses songs such as ‘Misunderstanding’ and ‘Born To Live’ – her intensely moving eulogy to departed lifelong friend Anita - with the stark but lustrous autumnal beauty that makes the album

The first single ‘The Gypsy Fairie Queen’ – inspired by Shakespeare’s ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream’ – was co-written with Nick Cave and features his vocals and piano playing.
