Following their debut release on Soviet Union, Manchester band Politburo continue to expand on their sound without sacrificing their visceral pop edge. In "The Oldest Empire", indie rock is married to a more primal form of music. The resulting effect is dreamlike and unpredictable - stark rock riffs and pounding beats join with surreal lyrics and sweet vocal melodies, before a forceful admonition is made amidst a whipped-up and feverish descent into the final stages.
