Once Upon A Time... The Tarantino Sound Vol. 2

'Once Upon a Time...The Tarantino Sound Vol. 2', following its homonymous Vol. 1, gathers 23 additional songs from the distinctive cinematic universe that defines Tarantino's style, from his earliest project, My Best Friend's Birthday (1987), to The Adventures of Cliff Booth (2026), for which he also contributed the script.

Music plays a vital role in the films of Quentin Tarantino. For him, songs are far more than background elements; they are essential storytelling tools. While preparing a film, he listens to countless tracks, using them to shape each scene's tone, rhythm, and emotional pulse. Some make it onto the official soundtrack; others never reach the final cut, yet still influence the creative process, helping define the atmosphere and emotional core of his work.

Play Misty For Me - Music From The Films Of Clint Eastwood

The great Clint Eastwood first started his career as an actor, but later gained further prestige as a director with films such as Unforgiven (1992), for which he won the Academy Awards for Best Director and Best Picture, Bridges of Madison County (1995), and Mystic River (2003), among many others.

Also, as a piano player and composer himself, Eastwood's love for jazz and blues is apparent when listening to the music he chose for the soundtracks of several of his movies. In fact, he used Erroll Garner's celebrated song "Mist y" in the first film he directed, titled Play Misty for Me (1971). Presented here is a collection of classic jazz, blues, swing and country performances featured in the soundtrack of some of his films.

Clint Eastwood interview Jazz Times in 2007: "When I was a kid growing up in Oakland, I started listening to a program called The Dixieland Jubilee. For fifteen minutes every day, they'd play the Frisco Jazz Band, Lu Watters' Yerba Buena Jazz Band, stuff like that. Then there was a jazz store out near El Cerrito, and I went out there and started listening to things and purchased a few records. Bop was starting to come in pretty good. So I went over and saw Dizzy Gillespie with a big band in San Francisco. There was a lot of blues being played around Oakland at that time - Ivory Joe Hunter, Joe Houston, Wynonie Harris - and I got wrapped up listening to that.

"One of the things about using music in movies that's so cool, is the fact that if you do it right, if you use the right song, in the right scene; really when you take songs and put them in a sequence in a movie right, it's about as cinematic a thing as you can do. You are really doing what movies do better than any other art form; it really works in this visceral, emotional, cinematic way that's just really special."- Quentin Tarantino.

Joao Gilberto

The Boss Of The Bossa Nova

Born in Juazeiro, Bahia, Brazil, singer/songwriter Joao Gilberto (1931-2019) was a true legend of bossa nova

While Antonio Carlos Jobim set the standard for the creation of bossa nova in the mid-'50s with songs like 'The Girl from Ipanema' and 'Desafinado'), it was Gilberto who brilliantly reimagined, and arguably, defined the genre.

This LP includes the complete contents of Gilberto's LP 'Brazil's Brilliant Joao Gilberto', which received a five-star rating on AllMusic, plus several of his greatest hits from his early years, including classic versions of 'Corcovado', 'Samba de Uma Nota So', 'Meditacao', 'Manha de Carnaval', 'Insensatez', and 'Desafinado', among many others.

Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong

Ella & Louis - 2023 Audiophile Pressing

This was the first album pairing Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong produced by Norman Granz for his Verve label. After recording a series of duets in the late 1940s for the Decca label, they were summoned by Granz in 1956 to make a series of sessions which would result in the present LP and two further double sets: Ella and Louis Again, and Porgy and Bess. To get the marvellous music heard here, Granz surrounded the stars with an outstanding quartet, consisting of Oscar Peterson on piano, Herb Ellis on guitar, Ray Brown on bass, and Buddy Rich on drums.

"Ella & Louis"] is one of the very, very few albums to have been issued in this era of the LP flood that is sure to endure for decades." - ***** Nat Hentoff, DownBeat

"Ella & Louis is an inspired collaboration. Gentle and sincere, this is deserving of a place in every home." - **** 1/2 AllMusic

Produced by Norman Granz, the sessions included the orchestras of Frank DeVol, Billy May, Marty Paich, Buddy Bregman, plus a host of star names including Louis Armstrong, Ben Webster, Stuff Smith, Barney Kessel, Oscar Peterson, Herb Ellis, Ray Brown, Louie Bellson, and Jim Hall, to name just a few.
