Donovan Kingjay

Politricktion / Flute Style

More from the exquisite Who Dem back catalogue, featuring modern dubsmith Donovan Kingjay at the controls. "Politricktion" is a poignant digi-dub stepper with deep sub bass, catchy chorus hook and nice echo-drenched keys. Beautifully timed for our current political climate!

"Flute Style" is the dub version of said track, but with added flute! Really taking this dub into the heavens with its mystic melody, fans of Augustus Pablo are gonna like this dubwise flip!

Tasty stuff - limited copies. Move quick.

STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Another bass heavy exercise in modern dub from the Who Dem mob. Vocal on side A, flute-enhanced dub version on the flip. Pressed onto high fidelity 7" single. What's not to love?!

Coco Bryce

Campari / Shadow Weaver

New shit from modern jungalist Coco Bryce who gets busy with the breaks, bass and re:drum software for another double header of sound system pressure.

"Campari" sees a skitty Think break stuttered, chopped and skewed as enchanted pads and exotic stabs create a dreamy flutter of melody and mood. As we've come to expect from Bryce, the drum programming and edits are inventive and executed with precision; there's a fun and light hearted mood present - but don't let that undermine the seriously sophisticated production at work.

"Shadow Weaver" takes on a different turn altogether. More like a modern steppers / juke track; a blistering 4/4 beat is soaked in eerie passages and occasional soundbwoy idents for a mammoth explosion of tension and release.

Another doozy from one of the best of the new school. Limited copies - don't sleep.

STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Coco Bryce comes correct with both a playful jungle roller and a hypnotic avant-stepper trip.

Fez The Kid

Nuff Bad Boy / Crunchy Paradise

Fez The Kid joins the esteemed ranks of the modern jungle massive, giving forerunners like Coco Bryce and Tim Reaper a run for their money as he rolls out two highly frenetic slices of music.

"Nuff Bad Boy" as the title might suggest, contains plenty of sound boy vox and raggamuffin idents. Add a well chopped Think break, torpedo subs and futuristic, digital atmospheres and you've got a contemporary killer that'll have both students and old skool DnB veterans united around the subwoofers.

"Crunchy Paradise" on the flip contains similar elements - keeping the ragga vibe but adding LTJ Bukem esque pads and seriously wild drum manipulation to the mix. It's one of those late session tracks that'll squeeze the last drops of energy outta the floor and give the soundsystem a proper workout.

Real tasty stuff - recommended.

STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: There's a huge jungle renaissance accompanying the continuing hardcore buzz. Meditator herald the charge of new producer's channelling that old school sound system spirit. Demonstrated here perfectly by Fez The Kid.

J Robinson WhoDemSound Meets Bopper Ranking

Guide Us

Spiritual dub reggae here from J.Robinson with vocal provided by Bopper Ranking. Dubwise and rootsical, "Guide Us" glides on a gentle plane of sub bass as digi-dub keys and sparse percussion rattle around the echo chamber. Lyrically, Bopper is looking both to Jah and himself for guidance through these harsh global times and delivers his prose with feeling and sentiment.

The dub cut really exemplifies J. Robinson's sklls on the mixing desk, boosting the bass pressure by factor ten, lacing the whole thing in endless tape delays and arranging the stems with all the precision of Scientist. It's slow tempo but hefty vibe make this double trouble for both the warm up and late on in the session. Unbelievably strong - can't wait to hear more from this producer's studio. Big T I P on this one dub fans! Don't sleep.

STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Deep as the Grand Canyon, dubwise steppers from J Robinson with a captivating vocal contribution from Bopper Ranking.
