The KVB

Always Then

‘Always Then’ is the debut album of The KVB, originally released in 2012 on Clan Destine Records. It was written and recorded in 2011 on a Fostex tape machine by Nicholas Wood, with Kat Day joining him to form a duo later that year.

This anniversary edition features the re-mastered full-length debut album and includes bonus tracks known as ‘Always Then Revisited’, four brand new reworked and rerecorded songs from the original album.

The original cover art featured a photo of a building in the centre of Mexico City, taken by friend and fellow musician Ela Orleans. The anniversary edition features new artwork with an updated cover photograph of the same building taken by the band in 2017.

This will appeal to fans of Greenwood’s previous work, including scores to ‘There Will Be Blood’, ‘Inherent Vice’, the Oscar-nominated ‘Phantom Thread’ and, of course, to fans of Radiohead.

Kraut-cats BEAK> are back; bringing us a first taste of new material since 2015. In case you're wondering, it tastes of gin and cigarettes, like a 2 a.m. snog down a back alley on the way to a taxi rank. Probably the most accurately titled release of the week, "Sex Music" is exactly that; a sleazy smear of slow grinding electronica at perfect thrusting pace. Garbled electronics grip your thigh with an ON-U intensity, melancholic vocals (think Clinic) represent the inevitable bout of post-orgasmic shame, while the seductive bassline rumbles its way into all your erogenous zones. I'm not kidding around here, this shit's hotter than a third glass of wine and an hour on Literotica... Over on the flip, Arcade Fire's Win Butler dubs things up, out and all about with a smart rerub. While it introduces a couple of exciting new positions, it lacks the choke, hair pull and flat palm which the A-side delivers with remorseless regularity...

        STAFF COMMENTS

Patrick says: BEAK> are back with a BIG tune for the fReEeKZ out there. "Sex Music" is the darkest, stickest krautfunk you'll hear outside a Dusseldorf basement. Listen with caution...

        Nick Cave & Warren Ellis

        War Machine - Original Score

‘War Machine’ is a new Netflix film, directed by David Michôd and starring Brad Pitt and Tilda Swinton among many others.

Military snares set a sharp cadence beneath the score’s eerie synths and strings, instantly reminiscent of ‘Skeleton Tree’ by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and the beautiful ‘Hell Or High Water’ score.

“Together we made a score that was both light and dark, propulsive and meditative at the same time. We developed a kind of ‘spiritual electronics’ that captured both the melancholy and the terrible absurdity of the Afghan war,” Cave and Ellis said in a press release. “It was a great pleasure to work with David Michôd, who is not only an extraordinary filmmaker but a musician too. Our favorite score!”

          Kyle Dixon & Michael Stein

          Stranger Things Season 2

Dixon and Stein return for the latest addition to their overwhelming spate of excellence over the past couple years. Following on from the first series waas never going to be easy for anyone involved, with it's 80's buddy-movie hauntology vibe being perfectly accentuated by Survive's less shadowy alter-ego on soundtrack duties, but series 2 has lived up to that expectation in every way. I know, that episode was pretty ridiculous, but you don't have to listen to it do you.

We kick things off with the haunting melancholy beauty of 'Walkin In Hawkins', perfectly capturing the eerie ambience of the city streets after the discovery of an analogue hell, hidden behind a bit of your local school. It's a moment we're all familiar with i'm sure, but Dixon & Stein manage to make its duality seem alluring, pressing forwards with paddling apreggio's and swelling pads.  Pieces like 'Eulogy' and 'On The Bus' talking things slowly forwards, opening the filters into an edgy benzoed bliss.

As we move onwards, things shift from a resolved optimism, into the inevitable downturn of a threatened society, with pieces like 'Descent Into The Rift' and 'Escape' providing a darker edge to things, moving towards the inevitable crescentic audiovisual finale. It's a brilliant companion to the programme, and just as much a divine pleasure in it's own right. Impeccable.

          STAFF COMMENTS

Barry says: Brilliant pulsing synths, eerie atmospheres and soaring, crackling pads. An equal amount of pastoral, suburban meanderings, and supernatural, hellish drive. Stunning stuff once again.

          Geoff Barrow & Ben Salisbury

Free Fire: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Geoff Barrow and Ben Salisbury return to score Ben Wheatley’s 1970s based epic shoot-out ‘Free Fire’, executively produced by Martin Scorsese.

Compiled by director Ben Wheatley himself, the soundtrack will be released on CD and double LP, featuring the full score by Geoff Barrow and Ben Salisbury, dialogue from the film and licensed tracks (The Real Kids, Creedence Clearwater Revival, John Denver).

‘Free Fire’ sees Barrow and Salisbury take a huge directional curve away from their intense, synth-based Ivor Novello award winning score for ‘Ex Machina’, with the composers curating a prog rock, free jazz, psychedelic journey influenced by bands such as King Crimson, Camel and Magma and tips its hat to the Lalo Schifrin thriller genre scores of that era.

Both the LP and CD will include a digital download card which features the full soundtrack as well as additional unheard bonus material not used in the score.

            FORMAT INFORMATION

Coloured LP Info: The double vinyl format is pressed on silver vinyl and housed in a deluxe gatefold sleeve.

            Nick Cave & Warren Ellis

            Wind River: Original Score

Nick Cave and Warren Ellis come together once more to score brand new thriller ‘Wind River’, directed by ‘Sicario’ writer Taylor Sheridan and starring Elizabeth Olsen and Jeremy Renner.

“The soundtrack to the beautiful ‘Wind River’ was first and foremost the incessant wind or the grieving silence of the snow,” Cave and Ellis said in a press release. “Amid those elemental forces, we made a kind of ghost score where voices whisper and choirs rise up and die away and electronics throb and pulse.”

This score is instantly reminiscent of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds’ ‘Skeleton Tree’, along with the pair’s recent acclaimed scores to ‘Hell Or High Water’ and ‘Lawless’.

              The Heads

              Dead In The Water

                **LONG OVERDUE CD REPRESS**

"Dead in The Water" is compilation carefully edited together by The Heads vocalist and guitar player Simon Price. It was originally released in a micro edition of 100 CD copies on the bands own Rooster label, these copies sold out overnight! The material consists of album outtakes, jams and rehearsal recordings, most of which are improvised. "Dead In The Water" is a lot more space rock than the previous Invada outtakes LP "33", it will appeal to fans of Bardo Pond, Acid Mothers Temple, Faust and Hawkwind!

‘Black Mirror’ is a sci-fi anthology series that explores a twisted, high-tech near-future where humanity’s greatest innovations and darkest instincts collide. The series, which debuted in the UK in 2011 on Channel 4 came to Netflix for its third season worldwide in 2016. Composed by Clint Mansell, the fourth episode, ‘San Junipero’, takes place in a seaside town in 1987. A shy young woman and an outgoing party girl strike up a powerful bond that seems to defy the laws of space and time.

The score to ‘San Junipero’ is a melancholic and nostalgic synth-orchestral ambience, which transcends the 1980s setting of the show, interweaving forlorn strings, static-tinged electronica and beautifully washing orchestral pieces alike. Enticing and repeating melodies feature against a captivating backdrop of graceful strings, encapsulating the on-screen mood perfectly.

Clint Mansell is well known for his previous work on ‘PI’, ‘Requiem For A Dream’, ‘Moon’ and ‘The Fountain’, for which he received a Golden Globe Nomination for Best Original Score, alongside many others.

                STAFF COMMENTS

Barry says: Legendary soundtrackologist Clint Mansell returns for his addition to the spellbinding scores for Black Mirror's latest series. This particular one is (was) a stormer, and it was perfectly accentuated my Mansell's haunting and emotive soundtrack. It's stunning with or without the visuals, and well worth your time.

                Various Artists / Cliff Martinez

Drive - OST (Frosted Clear Vinyl With Multi Splatter)

Cliff Martinez’s soundtrack to the cult classic film ‘Drive’ by Nicolas Winding Refn is turning 5, and to mark the anniversary, Invada Records and Lakeshore Records will co-release a limited edition version of the soundtrack, which features Martinez’s score and all other music used in the film, which includes the legendary tracks by Kavinsky, College and Desire.

The soundtrack features original music by Cliff Martinez (The Lincoln Lawyer, Traffic) with Euro-synth-styled songs by Kavinsky & Lovefoxxx (“Nightcall”), The Chromatics (“Tick of the Clock”), Desire (“Under Your Spell”), College featuring Electric Youth (“A Real Hero”), and Riziero Ortolani featuring Katyna Ranieri (“Oh My Love”). Rolling Stone Magazine named Drive the No. 1 movie of 2011.

“One thing that was unique for me about this project was having songs exert such a strong influence on the score,” said Martinez. “That helped to create a unified, one-size-fits-all, style of soundtrack…the 80s electronic pop style made a lot of sense to me. I knew that Nicolas [Refn, director] was in love with that sound and I saw a way to acknowledge it with vintage synth sounds and cover most of the dramatic food groups while referencing that style.”

This blending of score and song is the perfect vehicle for Cliff Martinez. Martinez moved to California in 1976, just in time for the punk movement. He had stints as drummer for the Weirdos, Lydia Lunch and Foetus frontman Jim Thirlwell, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Dickies. He was also the drummer in the final incarnation of legendary iconoclasts Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band.

This release features brand new liner notes written by the score’s composer Cliff Martinez, and by the film’s director Nicolas Winding Refn, along with stunning brand new artwork by Lakeshore Records Art Director John Bergin.

                  STAFF COMMENTS

Philippa says: Cliff Martinez scores this hit film, while there are also tracks from Kavinsky & Lovefoxxx (CSS), Desire and Chromatics (Italians Do It Better), and Riziero Ortolani & Rina Ranieri.

Toydrum are a duo who sneak into the consciousness. Not for them the full frontal assault but instead a dripfeed of classy work that many may know without knowing.

Their hugely acclaimed work with the late singersongwriter Gavin Clark lit up Shane Meadows’ ‘This Is England ‘90’, their rework of John Lennon’s ‘How Do You Sleep’ led Noel Gallagher to have them remix his High Flying Birds hit ‘In The Heat Of The Moment’ (which in turn soundtracked last year’s epic ad for the latest ‘Assassin’s Creed’ game).

The swirling soundtrack to ‘Prevenge’ cranks up the tension in the film, which evokes the hypnotic Goblin synth scores from Dario Argento’s vintage-era chillers and adds a touch of unearthly, sci-fi magic. The icy, stabbing synths of Toydrum’s excellent score aptly reflect the deliberately unpolished nature of the film.

                  Ben Salisbury & Geoff Barrow

                  Black Mirror: Men Against Fire

Ben Salisbury and Geoff Barrow return to score a new episode - ‘Men Against Fire’ - of the forthcoming third series of Charlie Brooker’s sensational ‘Black Mirror’.

Further exploring their distinct style as seen in their Ivor Novello-winning score for ‘Ex Machina’ and the forthcoming ‘Free Fire’, Salisbury and Barrow’s work on this release again delivers a completely unique sound which marries synthesisers with string orchestras, creating a soundtrack which both beautifully and eerily accompanies the episode.

Trent Reznor And Atticus Ross, Gustavo Santaolalla, Mogwai

Before The Flood: Music From The Motion Picture

Invada announce the release of the original score to ‘Before The Flood’, a documentary serving as a call to action from long time environmental advocate Leonardo DiCaprio and director Fisher Stevens.

Acting as music supervisors for the first time, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (‘The Social Network’, ‘Gone Girl’) worked in tandem with Gustavo Santaolalla (‘The Last Of Us’) and Mogwai to compose a blend of music with a cohesive vision.

“The incredible music composed for ‘Before The Flood’ was one of the most unique collaborations I can think of in scoring a film,” said Fisher Stevens. “Reznor, Ross, Santaolalla and Mogwai become one voice in capturing the emotion and feeling of Leonardo DiCaprio’s journey to understanding where we stand in terms of climate change, how far gone we are, what can we do about solving this issue and why people are still resistant to understanding how important it is.”

This will appeal to soundtrack fans, especially fans of Cliff Martinez (‘Drive’, ‘Solaris’), Kyle Dixon & Michael Stein (‘Stranger Things’), as well as Nine Inch Nails, Mogwai, Mono.

The vinyl is pressed on five sides of black heavyweight vinyl and housed in a triple gatefold sleeve.

                    STAFF COMMENTS

Barry says: What better pedigree could there be than these fine musicians to score a heartbreaking documentary about climate change. Reznor and Ross, Santaolalla (you might not be aware of his work if you're not a massive nerd like what I is) and the great Mogwai. It's every bit as beautiful and every bit as emotive as you'd imagine from this great breadth of talent.

Experimental accordion player Mario Batkovic’s debut full length album released on Invada Records, an utterly captivating and resolutely unique solo album, which carelessly expands the possibilities of the accordion.

The accordion heard as never before - a magnificently intense ocean of pulsating and shifting notes, with engrossing and mesmerising melodies which deeply grip human emotion.

This release will appeal to fans of Nils Frahm, Stephen O’Malley, BEAK>, Colin Stetson and Lubomyr Melnyk.

                    Jupiter-C

                    001

JUPITER-C’s debut release on Invada Records, featuring remixes by legendary film score composer Clint Mansell (‘Requiem For A Dream’, ‘Moon’, ‘Black Mirror’), and by UK electronic musician East India Youth. The East India Youth remix is to be the artist’s final piece of work under this name.

JUPITER-C describe their sound as “ruptured melodies with dissonant noise,” a description presented brilliantly in their debut EP which features heavy drones, saturated guitar melodies and haunting female vocals.

With darkly-hued synths and pulsing drum machines, this project is reminiscent of works by The KVB, The Soft Moon, Siouxsie Sioux, The Cure and Joy Division.

                      Roque Baños

Don’t Breathe: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack’

Invada Records announce the vinyl release of Roque Baños’ chilling score to the US smash hit ‘Don’t Breathe’, in conjunction with Lakeshore Records.

Baños, who has previously worked with the film’s director Fede Alvarez on the remake of ‘Evil Dead’, has crafted a truly unforgettable score combining harrowing atmospheric textures with sudden plunges into faster paced, pounding passages: a contrast executed with a unique and modern perspective.

Baños’ score is reminiscent of works by composers such as Brian Reitzell (‘Hannibal’, ‘30 Days Of Night’) and Gustavo Santaolalla (‘The Last Of Us’), whilst still maintaining his own unique style heard in previous works such as in ‘The Machinist’ and ‘Evil Dead’.

‘Don’t Breathe’ received the highest box office results in 2016 on its opening weekend and was rated the biggest film in the US upon its release.

This release is housed in a gatefold sleeve and comes complete with double sided printed inner which features additional artwork and credits.

Stranger Things Season 1, Vol. 1

The spellbinding, synth-heavy soundtrack to Netflix’s 1980s-set smash hit horror ‘Stranger Things’ is being released on LP and CD through Invada Records, in all territories excluding North and South America.

With its pillowy synth-pads and rich textures, the soundtrack to volume 1 seamlessly wanders through the 80s world of ‘Stranger Things’, breeding an unthreatening serenity with a gentle shift toward a darker mood. By track 11, listeners are plunged into a nightmare before they even have time to blink; a change pulled of with uncanny grace. The score effectively taps into a unique, strange world of terror, and springs it upon the audience with considered precision.

This soundtrack is instantly reminiscent of works by John Carpenter (Halloween, The Thing), Tangerine Dream and Vangelis (Blade Runner), whilst also delving into the ambience of Aphex Twin and more modern composers such as Cliff Martinez (Drive, Solaris).

                        STAFF COMMENTS

Barry says: Well, I've been going on about this for some time haven't I? Even reading the track titles makes me want to watch it all over again, and then I started to listen to it. Spooky, emotive and terrifying. A perfect combination of atmospheric flourishes and driving melody. Put together in one beautiful package. Awesome.

2xColoured LP Info: The vinyl for Volume 1 is pressed on one red, one blue coloured vinyl, and is housed in a thick 425 gram heavyweight gatefold sleeve. A printed insert is included which features additional artwork and credits.

                        Thought Forms

                        Songs About Drowning

With their third full length release, ‘Songs About Drowning’, Thought Forms kick it up yet another notch, pushing the boat out even further to create a strange, intoxicating album, their most accomplished to date and certainly their most fascinating. A contributing factor of this seachange was the addition of bassist Jim Barr (Portishead, Get The Blessing), who also produced and recorded the album.

Blending refined and colossal noisescapes with a beautifully hypnotic and seductive style delivered with confidence, ‘Songs About Drowning’ is a richly deserving album which could see the band carrying the proud lineage of off kilter noise pop.

This release will appeal to fans of My Bloody Valentine, Portishead, Thurston Moore, Beak> and White Hills.

                        STAFF COMMENTS

Barry says: Invada are no stranger to moving and fulfilling instrumentation, and this is no exception. Gloomy melodic post-rock and twinkling guitars morph into grungy basslines and screaming distorted guitar solos, all topped with an assured emotive vocal performance. Brilliant.

                        Kyle Dixon & Michael Stein

Stranger Things Season 1, Vol. 2

With its pillowy synth-pads and rich textures, the soundtrack to Volume Two seamlessly wanders through the 80s world of ‘Stranger Things’, breeding an unthreatening serenity with a gentle shift toward a darker mood. Floating between sweeter moments which temporarily blossom amidst the danger and decay, Volume Two is the second part of the ‘Stranger Things’ score, reaching climactic highs as the series comes to an end.

This soundtrack is instantly reminiscent of works by John Carpenter (‘Halloween’, ‘The Thing’), Tangerine Dream and Vangelis (‘Blade Runner’), whilst also delving into the ambience of Aphex Twin and more modern composers such as Cliff Martinez (‘Drive’, ‘Solaris’).

                        STAFF COMMENTS

Barry says: Having been entranced with Stranger Things, reading this tracklist is like a 'skip to the end' recap of the latter half of the series, listening obviously makes it all the more enthralling. Moody synth ambience, throbbing saw waves and eerie sweeps. Unsurprisingly brilliant.

                        FORMAT INFORMATION

2xColoured LP Info: The vinyl for Volume Two is pressed on clear coloured vinyl, with a red blob on the first disc and a black blob on the second and is housed in a thick 425 gram heavyweight gatefold sleeve. Scarlet Rascal

                        Scarlet Rascal

Scarlet Rascal release their much anticipated debut album; an ambitious, rough and ready achievement which marries driving guitars with dark, hazy sonic textures and a strikingly deep vocal sound.

Scarlet Rascal unite a distinct concoction of alternative ideas that tap into Joy Division, The Birthday Party and ‘Love’–era The Cult whilst also neatly neighbouring the likes of The Velvet Underground and The Jesus and Mary Chain.

Mixed by Geoff Barrow of Portishead and Craig Silvey (New Order / Baxter Dury / The Horrors), Scarlet Rascal’s debut is a ringing, tense and unique proposition.

The music calls to mind works of Nine Inch Nails, Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross and even elements of Mogwai and Aphex Twin.

Written by Geoff Barrow, Billy Fuller and Matt Williams, this is the soundtrack to Tom Geens’ directorial debut, the psychological drama ‘Couple In A Hole’.

‘Of Desire’ is The KVB’s most fully formed record to date, taking in influences such as Death In Vegas, Scott Walker and Roxy Music to create something that is at once familiar and yet inventive and original.

Steeped in musical history, ‘Of Desire’ is an album that hums with devotion and captures a band ready to emerge from the underground and embrace an ever-growing audience.

This will be The KVB’s second album on Geoff Barrow’s Invada Records label, home to similarly experimental artists such as Anika, College and Barrow’s own Beak>.

The band were invited to Barrow’s Invada Studios to record ‘Of Desire’ using his “wonderful synthesisers” as they began to flesh out ideas from bedroom demos dating back to Wood's earliest recordings.

THIS IS A RECORD STORE DAY 2014 EXCLUSIVE, LIMITED TO ONE PER PERSON.

Ringo Deathstarr are making no hesitations when it comes to checking things off their 2014 To Do List. The Austin, Texas trio will kick off the new year by releasing God's Dream, a 12-inch LP on Invada Records UK. The album is set to be released on 19th April 2014 Record Store Day. arm guitars and pulsing drums combine to form an aggressively atmospheric bubble, encompassing the listener in an infectious cohesive which blends the sounds of an era when Sonic Youth and Jesus and Mary Chain walked the Earth with a forward thinking and creatively stubborn indie darling. Joined by Adam Franklin of Swervedriver on the track "Nowhere" and Jeff Schroeder of the Smashing Pumpkins on "Chainsaw Morning," Ringo Deathstarr has created a flawlessly crafted sound on God's Dream, destined and deserving to exist on vinyl. Thankfully for enthusiasts, that is exactly where God's Dream has ended up. Ringo Deathstarr will release an exclusive run of sunshine yellow vinyl, limited to 500 copies. ingo Deathstarr, a musical trio from Austin, TX, have been putting out records since 2007. Consisting of Elliott Frazier (guitar, vocals), Alex Gehring (bass, vocals), and Daniel Coborn (drums, vocals), their sound is born from a love of melody, a love of guitar, and a hatred of pompous vocals. Finding it to be too much fun, the group has expounded upon the sounds of the masters before them. This desire to play the music they were too young to witness as children has taken Ringo Deathstarr around the globe, performing in places as far flung as Israel, Mexico, Brazil, Japan, Europe, Canada, and the continental USA, supporting favorites like ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, Dean Wareham, The Wedding Present, and The Smashing Pumpkins. With two full length records (Colour Trip and Mauve) and a handful of EPs and singles in the bag, now is the time for a new EP, "God's Dream," which was recorded in Austin and on a ranch in Dripping Springs, TX. For this record, the band reunited with Chris "Frenchie" Smith, who co-produced their debut EP.

What is Fairhorns? Fairhorns is the sound of the dirty future to come. More prosaically - but not by much - Fairhorns is Bristol based multi-instrumentalist Matt Loveridge, best known for his role as guitar abuser and keyboard/synth manipulator in acclaimed experimental rock trio Beak> alongside Billy Fuller (Fuzz Against Junk) and Geoff Barrow (Portishead, Quakers). You may also know Matt as Team Brick, whose 2009 debut album Alogon was greeted with considerable praise. Prior to that, Team Brick had garnered a reputation for unpredictable, exciting and often confrontational live shows, suggesting a British-born hybrid of R Stevie Moore, C Spencer Yeh (Burning Star Core) and Mike Patton. After a number of years of getting thoroughly puzzled with itself - and self-releasing a succession of limited-run CDRs covering ground from chiptune pop to heavy drone and Power Radiophonics - Team Brick splintered into several different projects, each one focusing on a separate element. Thus, Fairhorns was born.

Released via forward-thinking UK label Invada, DOKI DOKI RUN is the project’s debut album. Matt describes Fairhorns as “the fuzzed out, too-much-coffee haze of an all-night YouTube binge. Blackened Kraut. Ur-Step. Half-remembered kids TV theme tunes on a locked groove. Autistic blues - music for angry nerds who like to groove stoically and immobile.” The discerning listener may detect elements reminiscent of Hospital-era Cold Cave, Xeno & Oaklander, La Dusseldorf and even avant-doom pranksters Crom in the album’s quixotic flow, ranging from clattering electro-percussive assault to organ-led dreamscape.

“Baffling , startling , Doki Doki Run is an eccentric gem that rewards and encourages careful listening” – 9/10 Loud & Quiet

Ryan says: A collection of messed up, oddly dark drone ramblings for anyone who likes something a bit weird.

Invada Records (owned by Geoff Barrow / Portishead) are proud to announce the vinyl release of the critically acclaimed, "Drive - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack".

In Variety, Laura Ferreiro wrote,“while a synthetic electronica score may seem an unusual choice for a cerebral action thriller, it plays a pivotal role in setting Drive apart from other heist-gone-awry films, and arguably helped it become one of this year’s critical darlings.”

Martinez has since received compositional credit on many of Steven Soderbergh’s projects including Kafka, The Limey, Solaris, Gray’s Anatomy, Schizopolis, Traffic (which earned four Oscars and earned Martinez a Grammy nomination), and the upcoming film Contagion. He also composed the music for Espion(s) and A L’Origine, two French films released in 2009 - the latter earned a Cesar Award nomination for best original score. His other credits include Pump Up The Volume, Wicker Park, Wonderland, and The Lincoln Lawyer.

“I am very excited for Invada Records to release the Drive soundtrack on vinyl. It is nice to see good music allowed to play a pivotal role in a great film.” Geoff Barrow (Portishead/Invada)

“I have followed Cliff Martinez’s career since his score to Solaris in 2002. I was astounded by his work on the Drive OST. I am thrilled to be involved in this project.” Redg Weeks (Invada Label Manager).

Sil says: As far as I'm concerned this highly stylised, ultra violent thriller would not have reached the popularity it did without this impeccable soundtrack. The pulsating compositions of Cliff Martinez and contributions by Kavinsky, Johnny Jewel from Chromatics, or Lovefoxx from CSS give the film a cool 80s tinge and a vision of Los Angeles at night.
Simultaneously poppy and tenebrous, it is a soundtrack which does not need the film in order to make sense.

                                    David Wrench

                                    Spades & Hoes & Plows

"Spades & Hoes & Plows" is the third solo album by Welsh producer, pianist and songwriter David Wrench, and was commissioned for Julian Cope's Black Sheep by Cope and Fat Paul and in effect can be considered the follow up to Cope's Black Sheep album - "Kiss My Sweet Apocalypse" from last year which featured Wrench performing vocals. The album presents four traditional folk themes from the British Isles, all performed in an eerily upfront and cadaverous manner, reminiscent of such late black metal as Furze, or perhaps a radical hybrid of Andrew King and an acoustic Khanate.

Invada Records announce the release of Team Brick's debut album "Alogon". Team Brick is vocalist / multi instrumentalist Matt Williams who has over the past couple of years been quietly making a name for himself in the Bristol music scene, not least his involvement last year on Portishead's "3rd" album. Along with Geoff Barrow and Billy Fuller, Williams is also a member of Beak whose debut album will be released on Invada later this year. If you haven't heard or seen this man play out or heard any of his music this is a good a place as any to check him out. The man cant be compared to anybody or anything, but if you're a fan of the following artists... John Zorn, Merzbow, Mr Bungle, Secret Chiefs 3, Steve Reich, Dalek, Cardiacs etc etc you may wish to explore what he has to offer with this album. Making comparisons from Robert Wyatt to Gastr Del Sol to Sunn O))) Wire magazine concluded; 'There are plenty of would-be mavericks currently operating on the fringes of the UK music underground, most of whom are labouring under delusions of adequacy, never mind grandeur. Matt Williams is the genuine article.'
