Charlie Megira

Da Abtomatic Meisterzinger Mambo Chic

On his 2000 debut, Da Abtomatic Meisterzinger Mambo Chic, Megira channels the optimism of post-war America, narcoleptic surf, and the Twin Peaks soundtrack into a lo-fi masterpiece all his own. Sung in both Hebrew and English, Mambo Chic moves at a deliberate pace, unconcerned by the traffic of the modern world and wrapped in a blanket of Tascam 4-track hiss. On “Tomorrow’s Gone” Megira achieves the feat of being so far back in time that he’s somehow living in the future and waiting for the rest of us to arrive.

My Forbidden Lover / I Feel Your Love Comin' Down (Dimitri From Paris Mixes)

Rarely does an artist pay homage to the classics like Dimitri From Paris. The Grammy nominated producer, remixer, composer and DJ has made every one of his repertoire of reworks sound effortless; no mean feat when the original tracks are by the likes of Disco’s greatest musicians. In 2018 he released his “lifetime achievement” on Glitterbox, with the strictly limited pressing of the ‘Dimitri From Paris presents Le Chic Remix’ boxset. Now the 12’s have their own separate outings, bringing greater focus onto the individual productions, as each vinyl features two of the incredible Dimitri remixes, along with their respective instrumentals on the B-Side. On this record, Dimitri continues to get to the heart of why CHIC’s music remains so universally relevant, underlining the enduring cultural significance of dance music in its most unabashed form with his careful remixing of CHIC classics ‘My Forbidden Lover’ and ‘I Feel You Love Comin’ On’.

C'est Chic - Signature Edition Remaster

Disco lovers rejoice! Chic's first three albums are back on wax in wonderful remastered form. These versions of Chic, C’est Chic and Risqué feature the Nile Rodgers’ Signature Edition Remasters, which debuted last year as part of The Chic Organization 1977-1979 boxed set.

Each album was remastered from the original Atlantic stereo tapes by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios. Rodgers served as executive producer and supervised the remastering with the approval of Bernard Edwards’ estate. To ensure exceptional sound quality, the albums were mastered at half-speed and pressed on 180-gram vinyl.

Hot on the heels of their 1977 debut, "C'est Chic" continued Nile and Bernard's assault on the disco, and DJs and dancers can delight at "Chic Cheer" (Big up Fatman Scoop), "Le Freak" and "Savoir Faire".

Les Plus Grands Succès De Chic

Let's face it, Chic were THE greatest band of the disco era. By the time they sauntered onto the late 70s stage, the genre was already slipping into the excess which eventually caused its downfall. Out of nowhere, Chic bucked the trend and turned the dancefloor around by stripping the disco sound down to its basic elements. Sizzling 4/4 rhythms, Bernard's limber bass and Nile's distinctive guitar licks fused into killer arrangements and topped with Norma, Luci and Alfa's powerhouse vocals. This distinctive approach not only resulted in some of the finest dance singles of their time, but also helped create a template for urban funk, dance-pop, and even hip-hop in the post-disco era. Taking a quick squiz at the tracklist you'll find every essential Chic cut back to back, resulting in a total party starter of an LP. I defy anyone to find a record with seven better tracks.

              STAFF COMMENTS

Patrick says: Yowser yowser yowser! How about this for an LP! Unrivaled in the big room disco world, Chic were a party starting powerhouse – and this LP shows you exactly why. All killer, no hint of a filler.
