Cannelé / Qmqs

Italy's tastiest jazz-funk band is back to what they do best, sharing dreamy summer vibes with this new 2-tracker.

"Cannelé" is a smooth, sun-drenched tribute to this sweet product of the Bordeaux terroir, that doublebass player and former Saint-Émilion employee Fabio Bordignon knows so well. Beautiful string arrangements come to sublimate the track with a highly cinematic feel.

On the other side is the final studio version of "QMQS" (Quando mai, quando sempre), which is an old Italian expression to qualify people that only appear rarely, and always at the same specific occasions. This uplifting disco tune first appeared in its demo and live versions on previous releases "Gusto di Luce" and "Live at Bolle Nardini", and has finally been re-recorded in a clean and groovy dress to be pressed on this 7" record.

STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Beautiful xylophone action, frenetic drums, rich orchestration, woozy feels; this beast of a 7" has everything and more for your library funk / paradise music lover.

Miles away from the current UK jazz scene, a mysterious composer from the Nottingham area cooks raw and noisy library music with groovy jazz fusion and beat-heavy funk breaks tackling themes of satanism and witchcraft.

Having previously released music with Jazzman Records, Stones Throw subsidiary Now-Again and French label BMM Records, The Natural Yogurt Band presents the 7th album of his discography that marks an experimental turn.

"Spores" takes us on an obscure sci-fi journey into extra-terrestrial territories where tropical flutes, pianos, guitars and organs melt under corrosive electronic sounds, modular bird chirps and vintage drum machines sounds.

STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Natural Yoghurt Band's deliciously free and experimental jazz / library project is a true feast for the ears. Incomparable and infectious; it's a wild, untamed beast of electronics and improvisation that you're gonna love.

French pianist and trumpeter Guillaume Poncelet presents his second solo album, “Durango”.

This album was named after the studio where he works alongside his sound engineer, Romain Clisson. It explores the sphere of minimalist neo-classical music with deep and subtle nuances.

In these 10 new compositions, we find that muffled upright piano sound, unique and characteristic of Guillaume Poncelet, which weaves in the keyboards and synths orchestrated by Louxor. It’s a luxurious affair rich with velvety feels.

Forever Pavot & XP The Marxman

Forever XP

After two EPs with his punk-jazz duo La Récré, a recent solo album on Born Bad Records and two soundtracks for Monia Chokri films "Babysitter" and "Simple Comme Sylvain", Forever Pavot is everywhere yet never where you expect him to be. He now returns to BMM with a new rap album titled "Forever XP".

On the other side of the globe, LA-based rapper and street activist XP The Marxman received a beat with a nice sample from one of his producers. XP traced the sample back to Forever Pavot, and decided to reach out to him to collaborate.

That's how the atypical Forever XP album was born. Pavot's first time working with a rapper was also XP's first time working with a composer, yet they managed to blend both their universes in such a flawless way that it's like they were meant to create music together.

STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Seriously strong LP: street level raps, gritty beats and soulful string / brass samples meet jazz drumkits and proudly old school, stoner rap flavours. XP's flow is cool and charismatic, while FP's organically developed production sits naturally in the mix. Absolutely boss tackle.
