Archeo's 12th release is dedicated to Sth Notional's organic, meditative and groovy 1992 Japanese release, collecting all the original CD tracks alongside the rare 12" versions and 4 Special remixes from Japanese based producers, Kuniyuki, Chee Shimizu (Organic Music), Max Essa and Tadashi Yabe (U.F.O.). A killer chiller, Sth Notional's "Yawn Yawn Yawn" came to the attention of regular music fans (as opposed to bearded Balearic fetishists) as the opening track of bearded Balearic fetishists Moonboots and Balearic Mike's 'Originals' compilation. In true 1992 fashion, the original 12" featured three original tracks in a plethora of different and distinct mixes, all incomparably calming. Here, we get all those lovely variants of "Yawn Yawn Yawn", "Beyond The Outside" and "Song With No Words" with additional Brucey bonus mixes from a few of our favourite cats. Acclaimed Japanese digger Chee Shimizu soothes our cares with a horizontal dip in the ambient paddling pool for his version of "Yawn Yawn Yawn" while Yabe brings the Balearic beats on his mix, working through acoustic strumming, organic percussion, avant explorations and an ever present kick drum. Ex pat hero Max Essa takes "Beyond The Outside" for a sunny stroll through the cherry blossom trees, injecting the original with a trademark drum machine groove before Kuniyuki closes the package in wholly horizontal fashion.

Archeo Recordings chart a course for the Balearics with this laid back delight of overlooked Italian island grooves. Tony Esposito is a long-serving singer-songwriter, and two tracks from his 2004 CD Viaggio Tribale get a vinyl cut here, with "Dove C'e Luce" the recipient of a special, 90s tinged remix from LucaEffeSunset. Antonio Nicola Bruno's "Storia Della Terra Mia" is the first of three unreleased tracks from this little known Lucan artist, striking a curious note with folk undertones and a sunny disposition. There's a more dramatic tone to "Danza E Ridanza," which takes on an almost Talking Heads-esque quality for the "B Version" that closes this high quality 12" from the ever reliable Archeo camp.

Italy's reissue champion, Signore Manu Archeo comes up with another killer here, hitting us with a mini-LP pulled from the astoundingly rare and ever so excellent "Ruckus In Lo-Fi" LP. Released by the mysterious Blindboy on Sweden's Nu-Whop 1999, this sampledelic spectacular packed enough cut-up class and instrumental hip hop heat to send its second hand price soaring over the past fifteen years, so it's a treat to see it back on the shelves. Alongside the head-nodding jazzery of "Intro", psych-funk slicing of "Advice Of Investment" and Shadow-style stomp of "Incident", this mellow masterpiece also boasted a pair of big Balearic plays. First up, there's the infamous and excellent "I Dream", a killer combo of the trippy groove from Pink Floyd's "Another Brick In The Wall (Pt.1)", the drums from Tom Tom Club's "Genius Of Love" and some celestial vocals from Kajsa Hallberg. Heady, heavy and oh so funky, this is a horizontal dancer par excellence. If you like things a little more strung out, Clandestino's Joe Morris is on hand to offer a incense laden "Wolves Of Asha" mix, while the emotive "Accident" is a neat bit of dream pop with a lot of sundappled charm. Limited and lovely, you gots ta grab this while you can!

Patrick says: Though this Mini-LP more than matches the rest of the sampledelic field, it's the Floyd-sampling Balearic bomb "I Dream" that's gonna have heads nodding, floors filling and ID requests flooding in!
