Tractor - 50th Anniversary Edition

Heralded by Julian Cope The Shins and Dangermouse, Tractor continue to find new fans nearly 50 years later. 50 years ago in 1972 Dandelion Records released the Tractor “Tractor” LP. Tractor was a team of people including guitarist Jim Milne, drummer Steve Clayton, recording engineer John Brierley, and when John Brierley left in 1973 the team expanded to include recording engineer Alan Burgess and live sound engineer Chris Hewitt. Alan Burgess left around 1975 and Dave Addison was added on bass guitar in 1976. Chris Hewitt hooked up Tractor with the Deeply Vale festivals and the studio and PA gear that John Peel bought for the band with their Dandelion Records advance would become the basis of the Tractor Music PA Hire company in 1976 and it also was the PA system that was used for Deeply Vale Festivals.

Original Masters (Including The Way We Live)

Originally released on CD in Germany in 1992, CD versions have sold for as much £40 second hand some 20 years later. Now time to make it available to the world again. The first eight tracks on this are often considered more raw than the recordings on the 1971 Way We Live album as these were done in the preceding 12 months to that album’s release of the same tracks - ie these are the original masters!!! A great selection of rare bonus tracks and an 8 page cd booklet with some rare images complete the package.

Tracks 1 to 8 and 13 are recorded late 60's/early 70's at John Brierley's home studio on a mixing desk with no EQ on 2 track tape recorders (later to become Dandelion Studios, Rochdale and eventually Cargo Studios). Tracks 9 and 10 recorded 1977 by Cargo Studios Mobile. Tracks 11 and 12 Recorded 1974/75 at Tractor Sound Studios, Heywood. Track 14 Recorded 1980 by Cargo Studios Mobile.

Tractor / The Way We Live

A Candle For Judith (50th Anniversary Edition)

Original album plus a bonus single sided 12 inch with two extra tracks from The Way We Live era in a deluxe triple gatefold sleeve with 180 gsm green coloured vinyl. Full biographical info on the sleeve on Tractor and The Way We Live and rare photos from that era. The classic 1971 album by UK band Tractor, appearing under a different name. Originally issued on Dandelion the album is now expanded and remastered. A truly beautiful progressive/space rock album it mixes the epic quality of Led Zep with a spacey Pink Floyd feel and the mushroom weirdness of The Pink Fairies and Hawkwind. "Willow" is a masterpiece of UK underground rock and it's easy to see why John Peel signed this band way back in the early '70's. Bob Stanley of St Etienne talking about The Way We Live and other albums of this genre - “The autumnal sound of Britain at the turn of the 70s, looking out through wet window panes to a new decade with a mixture of melancholy and optimism for what might come next. With the Beatles gone and the pound sinking, a new and distinctive sound emerges, led by flutes and mellotrons.” // John Peel “Jim Milne of The Way We Live and Tractor, the man responsible for some of the most urgent, flowing and logical guitar playing I’ve ever heard”
