SPECKMAN

Speckman DJ & producer hailing from Hamburg. Co-founder of the tastemaking partyseries Dreamteam and resident at the legendary Golden Pudel Club is finally presenting his new album titled "Noisemaker" on Public Possession. His eclectic style as a DJ is perfectly represented by the music on the record, sitting comfortably between tech-house, indie, new rave and electronica; it could probably be best described as a pretty epic take on electroclash in a fully updated, reloaded 2025 version. Well executed party music with a nod to the past yet fully in the present and not taking itself too seriously. The mellow, deeper episodes are the topping on the bright, pink cake. Speckman is going to jump out of it and right at you. Find him soon in a DJ booth close to you, no matter if he is supporting The Dare on his EU Tour or holding controls at the Golden Pudel Club. It’s going to be wild and full of surprises.

STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Nooiiice n tidy LP from the bar tender of the Golden Pudel who's absorbed bare talent from the rotating assembly of stars that have graced the club. Moving through synth, bass and house stylings with an effortless charm and silky finesse, Speckman comes through with what could be one of the biggest surprise hits of the year.

Debut EP of Golden Pudel club barman (!!) Paul Speckmann.

Long years behind the bar of the Hamburg club pub made him a willing listener to the numerous and diverse events there - from start to finish, something that very few regular clubbers can claim.

And these influences, from indie concert to electronica crunch, from jungle breakbeat massacre to dignified house groove, not only led to his varied DJ sets, with which Speckmann also made his house club happy, but certainly also served as inspiration for these wonderful tracks, which skillfully oscillate between deep-dusty house, angereak indie dance and playful IDM jingling, often varying different elements in one track.

There is, for example, the delicately dreamy house hit "On The Flip", the late night funk of "Star-ship", which would not be out of place on the Sunday MFOC floor, or the blurred indie ambient tune "Return", which captivates with campfire guitar and Sophia Kennedy on the vocals.

Rather than a collection of disparate influences however, Speckman welds everything together with coherent production techniques. A kinda downbeat / electronica aesthetic that recalls hazy comedown sessions the day after the night before; that hypnagogic quality lending itself to post-workout lucidity and bliss. This is a killer, understated, sexy album that gifts the listener with originality and charm. Recommended!

STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Eccentric, deeply personal debut from an unlikely star of the underground scene - the barman from the Golden Pudel! I love the idea behind this - and thankfully Speckman's eclectic set of influences has yielded impressive and cohesive results that work wonderfully together as a whole. This could be one of the curveball contenders of the year!
