The KVB

Tremors

'Tremors' sees Manchester-based cold wave duo The KVB return to the darker sound that embodied their earliest releases whilst retaining the infectious energy of their previous album Unity which MOJO described as having a “sense of wonderment throughout”. The band have dubbed their sound on 'Tremors' as ‘dystopian pop’, and wrote it with the live show in mind; full of energy, hooks and dynamic moments. Writing the album between Manchester and Bristol, the band have drawn on their own back catalogue and the music that inspired them at the very beginning of their artistic journey. The end result is the most complete album from The KVB to date, full of emotive impact and hooks presented in a uniquely shadowy atmosphere with an idiosyncratic detachment that adds to the cinematic quality of their sound.

    The KVB

    Unity

Underground coldwave duo The KVB are back with their most potent and immediate record yet. Produced and mixed by Andy Savours (Black Country New Road, My Bloody Valentine, The Horrors) ‘Unity’ represents an exciting development in the band’s sonic journey. Across the album's ten songs, The KVB masterfully pull together their trademark components; radiant guitars, textural synths and an ear for a moody, brooding melody all presented here with a renewed dynamism.

Throughout the album lyrical themes combine double meanings and a sleight of hand is present; Le Corbousier’s brutalist ‘Unité d’habitation’ informs the title track and via the French-to-English translation ‘Unité' becomes ‘Unity’ - a rallying cry to totality on the dancefloor. ‘Unbound’ is informed by the classic shoegaze stylings of Slowdive and Ride but also late-modern poet Keston Sutherland and the idea of recreating a special moment lost to the past .

      The KVB

      Minus One (Re Issue)

The KVB is the audio/visual project of London youngsters Nicholas Wood & Kat Day, who combine reverb heavy wall of sound guitars, minimal haunting strings and grinding bass synths, messed up motorik drum machine beats and delay drenched vocals with a backdrop of imagery to accompany the symphony, that’s nothing short of life affirming. the KVB's music evokes the ominous chill of abandoned factories; burning wreckage on the post-industrial wasteground just outside of the city; a conflation of romantic betrayal and socioeconomic collapse; end times, and bad things waiting on the periphery, but the kind of bad things that many of us are unerringly drawn to.

        The KVB

        Only Now Forever

Whilst holding evident inspiration from previous times, the sound this London-founded duo present is progressive and distinctly new in every sense. Idyllic at times; gritty in others, each bar is as enchanting as the last, leaving you in a melancholic trance. Offering poignant lyricism that explores modern anxieties that plague many, the duo manage to imbue feelings of empowerment, fighting such struggles with a deceivingly sanguine sound. This seamless juxtaposition is perhaps their best trait.

‘Of Desire’ is The KVB’s most fully formed record to date, taking in influences such as Death In Vegas, Scott Walker and Roxy Music to create something that is at once familiar and yet inventive and original.

Steeped in musical history, ‘Of Desire’ is an album that hums with devotion and captures a band ready to emerge from the underground and embrace an ever-growing audience.

This will be The KVB’s second album on Geoff Barrow’s Invada Records label, home to similarly experimental artists such as Anika, College and Barrow’s own Beak>.

The band were invited to Barrow’s Invada Studios to record ‘Of Desire’ using his “wonderful synthesisers” as they began to flesh out ideas from bedroom demos dating back to Wood's earliest recordings.

After touring Australia in December 2013 with the Brian Jonestown Massacre The KVB's new six track EP is the culmination of a week long recording session at Anton Newcombe's studio in Berlin last autumn . During which they recruited the help of Joe Dilworth (Stereolab) to contribute live drums to the recordings , this was the first time the band have worked outside of their own studio set up at their home in South London. 'Out Of Body' is a further exploration of the bands interest in phenomenology, bodily immersion and consciousness. Introspective lyrics are suspended in dream like melodies, further expanding upon the duo's hypnotic aesthetic which they explore both sonically and visually on the record.
