This is the fourth Beak> studio album, imaginatively titled ‘>>>>’. At its core we always wanted it to be head music, listened to as an album, not as individual songs. This is why we are releasing this album with no upfront singles or promo tracks.

The recording & writing initially began in a house called Pen Y Bryn in Talsarnau, Wales in the fall out from the weirdness of the covid days. Remote and with only ourselves and the view of Portmeirion in the distance we got to work.

With the opening track, ‘Strawberry Line’ as the metronomic guide for the album, we then resumed recording, as before, at Invada studios in Bristol, whilst still touring around Europe & North/South America.

After playing hundreds of gigs & festivals over the years we felt that touring had started to influence our writing to the point we weren’t sure who we were anymore. So we decided to go back to the origins of where we were at on our first album. With zero expectations and just playing together in a room.

    Hopefully we have achieved this.

Barry says: Beak have definitely ascended on their latest, '>>>>'. Though their DNA has always had something in common with classic rock and psychedelia, the newest outing is so deeply psychedelic and grand that it almost defies explanation. Think the wilder side of haunting neo-folk and Kosmische music combined with post-rock and a dash of hypnotic dancefloor percussion and you're somewhere near. Brilliant madness.

      Mark Jenkin

      Enys Men (Original Score)

‘Enys Men’ is the new folk horror film by BAFTA-Award winning director Mark Jenkin. Jenkin also composed the score for the film, now available on vinyl via Invada Records.

The film revolves around a wildlife volunteer whose daily observations of a strange flower on a lonely island take a dark turn.

Mark Jenkin won a BAFTA for his critically acclaimed film ‘BAIT’, the score for which was released on Invada Records. The score features entrancing lo-fi drones intertwined with dialogue from the film.

Producer Denzil Monk said: “To the best of our knowledge it is the first time a Cornish language poster has been used for a distributed feature film. It gives the sense that the language was the language of the island and it’s nice to highlight this aspect of the film. The Cornish language is also thriving, the number of people speaking it is growing all the time and it’s started to break into mainstream culture. To see it normalised in this way is really important for its future and makes it more visible. This is a Cornish production through and through and a celebration of Cornwall’s rich folklore, its tin and copper mining heritage, relationship with the sea and stunning natural beauty.”

            Clint Mansell

            In The Earth

Clint Mansell's incredible synth score to Ben Wheatley's "In The Earth” The score is pressed on 180g black vinyl, and housed in a deluxe spined sleeve with double sided printed insert and download card. For the score, Mansell actually captured the sound of singing plants via PlantWave MIDI sprout machine, in keeping with the vegetal themes of the film. "It's big, ominous, sometimes beautiful and often eerie -- think Blade Runner or Annihilation -- not to mention unsettling at times." Clint says, "Paranoia, isolation, anxiety, synths, plants...something for everyone!” In The Earth was made by Ben Wheatley during lockdown and was one of the most talked about films of Sundance Film Festival. As the world searches for a cure to a devastating virus, a scientist and a park scout venture deep into the woods. As night falls, their journey becomes a terrifying voyage through the heart of darkness as the forest comes to life around them.

              STAFF COMMENTS

Barry says: One of the masters of the soundtrack returns for Ben Wheatley's brilliant 'In The Earth'. Deep, dark synths slowly morph into airy orchestral arrangements in a perfect culmination of beauty and unease. Classic Mansell.

              Billy Nomates

              Billy Nomates (RSD21 EDITION)

Special ltd edition picture disc variant of the critically acclaimed Billy Nomates debut album available for RSD. After huge support from record stores and BBC 6 music alike, the original variant was a big seller for stores and sold out fast. This exclusive variant will be a popular one. Housed in a deluxe spined sleeve including printed insert with hand written lyrics and digital download card. The songs on her debut album all come from a place of defiance. Rebellion against Brexit. Against soul-sapping, dead-end jobs and zero-hours contracts. Against gender inequality, sexual harassment and festivals with obligatory female acts hidden in the small print. Billy's songs lampoon the same bleak reality satirised by her beloved Scarfolk website and explored so abrasively in the fringe theatre she finds solace in. Musically, there are snatches of Nick Cave's rumbling sprechgesang; the off-the-wall-ness of musicians like Captain Beefheart; Sleaford Mods' febrile post-punk; the groovesome lofi art-rock of Sonic Youth; and the brassy Americana of Emmylou Harris. What dominates, though, is a feeling of release. Of letting it all out.The track Supermarket Sweep features guest vocals by Jason Williamson of Sleaford Mods.

Tiswas EP - Orange Vinyl Edition

“In times of complacency, what we really need is a band to rock up and tell everyone to fuck off.” NME. “Stream-of-consciousness tirades that conjure up a world of sticky cafe table-tops, grinding hangovers, and the cold comfort of consumerism.” The Guardian

It’s been an utterly insane year for SLEAFORD MODS. Once dismissed around their native Nottingham as "two skip rats with a laptop", their last two albums, ‘Austerity Dogs’ in 2013 and this year’s ‘Divide And Exit’, both on Harbinger Sound, have achieved the kind of critical acclaim that less inspired bands could only dream of. Equally, their live gigs have become rapid-fire, explosive, cathartic performances, drawing in endless sold-out crowds of people blown away to finally witness something that matters and actually has something to say.

November 24th heralds the arrival of some highly-anticipated new music from front gob Jason Williamson and music master Andrew Fearn in the shape of the ‘TISWAS EP’. Released through Invada Records (the Bristol label responsible for BEAK>, DROKK and numerous soundtracks including Drive / OldBoy), the ‘Tiswas EP’ features four brand new studio tracks alongside ‘Tiswas’, lifted from the ‘Divide And Exit’ album.

It is released on both yellow and orange Tiswas coloured vinyl (3000 units in total – 1500 of each variant) and sees Sleaford Mods pushing and developing their bile and style.
