COLD BLOW

The Rephlex alumni and all around electro legend DMX Krew channels the Minneapolis sound, boogie, and freestyle in this classic 2005 Japan-exclusive, now pressed on vinyl for the first time by the good people at Cold Blow.

Kiss Goodbye showcases Ed DMX in his absolute finest form in songwriting and richness of production. A guaranteed antidepressant with timeless moments from an ode to a mature lady in “D.I.V.O.R.C.E.E.”, to a rap about a cheating girlfriend in “Who’s That Guy?". Full of classic quotables combined with funk that would make Morris Day proud.

The 2xLP is available in standard black, and a special sexy red edition. Mastered by Noel Summerville whose CV includes too many classics to mention, from Newcleus and Hashim to Ohio Players and Rick Astley! The sleeve has received redesign treatment by the Organic Analogue’s Benedetta Sodini.

Essential!

Synthesizer maestro, Rephlex alumni, Fresh Up and Breakin' records founder, and Rinse.fm resident DMX Krew channels Prince's spirit, picking up his electro-pop / synth-funk hat for a fizzy n squelchy electro-funk four tracker of epic proportions!

Also featuring archive gem circa "We Are DMX" and previously CD only dub version of "Cold Love".

The titular track “Still Got It” is a brand new production with vocal and dub versions of driving bassline and Linn fills, exclaiming “I still got the music in me, and it sets me free!” amidst heartbreak. Teardrops on the dancefloor, anyone?

On the flip side, we are treated with an archive gem from the Rephlex era! The Telex-like pacey vocoder synth pop “Paranoia” was recorded around the time of “We Are DMX” album in 1999, and what a treat it is!

The closing track is the only previously released one. A dub version of “Cold Love” borrowed from the Japan-exclusive, CD-only 2005 album “Kiss Goodbye” which Cold Blow has announced to be reissued soon!

STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Machine tweaker and cybernetic b-boy Edward Upton revs up his classic moniker for a Prince-indebted EP of killer electro-funk swathed in the producer's trademark synthesis and punchy drum rhythms.

Finland's DJ Lifegoals, Forehard and Larry Neverheard debut on Cold Blow with a braindance-flavoured, split four-tracker, aptly titled "Braindancing". Arguably one of the most interesting, yet humblest, labels out there, Cold Blow is at it again with a absolutely killer release that's impossible to ignore!

The two tracks from Helsinki's clubland stalwart, DJ Lifegoals, take the baton from braindance's golden era and make it his own while paying homage to the tradition. Distorted, yet emotional, catchy yet challenging. On the flipside Inceptum founder Forehard (aka Ruusuvuori) partners up with the enigmatic Larry Neverheard for a mystifying, intricate, but (brain)dancefloor-ready double bill. If you've been digging the anthemic side of RX-101, James Stinson's Another People Place alias and the cybernetics of Metroplex then this bad boys for you!

STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Brilliantly under-the-radar release which touches upon Drexciyan aqua-funk, anthemic industrial blast furnaces, squelchy acid braindance and dark electro. Top drawer machine music from DJ Lifegoals.
