In The Earth

Clint Mansell's incredible synth score to Ben Wheatley's "In The Earth” The score is pressed on 180g black vinyl, and housed in a deluxe spined sleeve with double sided printed insert and download card. For the score, Mansell actually captured the sound of singing plants via PlantWave MIDI sprout machine, in keeping with the vegetal themes of the film. "It's big, ominous, sometimes beautiful and often eerie -- think Blade Runner or Annihilation -- not to mention unsettling at times." Clint says, "Paranoia, isolation, anxiety, synths, plants...something for everyone!” In The Earth was made by Ben Wheatley during lockdown and was one of the most talked about films of Sundance Film Festival. As the world searches for a cure to a devastating virus, a scientist and a park scout venture deep into the woods. As night falls, their journey becomes a terrifying voyage through the heart of darkness as the forest comes to life around them.

    STAFF COMMENTS

Barry says: One of the masters of the soundtrack returns for Ben Wheatley's brilliant 'In The Earth'. Deep, dark synths slowly morph into airy orchestral arrangements in a perfect culmination of beauty and unease. Classic Mansell.

Rebecca (Music From The Netflix Film)

The psychological thriller - directed by Ben Wheatley and starring Lily James, Armie Hammer and Kristin Scott Thomas - aired on Netflix on October 21 - one of Netflix’s biggest films of 2020.

Speaking about his score, Mansell says: “Of course the main objective is to serve the film, support the story, and have the music play its role. But aside from that, to be honest, when I approach a new film nothing is sacred, everything is up for grabs. You need to take it apart and then rebuild it to find one’s own voice within it. That said I love to do lots of research on a project before I start writing - it’s my most favourite part of the process. The film I’m scoring has to inform me of what it needs, to what it will respond. So, an intimate knowledge of the work, other interpretations, background, the author, etc. is key to my being receptive to that.”

As well as being one of the founding members of Pop Will Eat Itself, Clint Mansell is one of the most respected contemporary film composers and his hugely successful works include Requiem For A Dream, Moon, The Fountain, Black Mirror: San Junipero, High- Rise, Doom and more.

Out Of Blue: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

‘Requiem For A Dream’ and ‘Black Mirror’ composer Clint Mansell scores British film director Carol Morley’s neo-noir thriller, ‘Out Of Blue’.

In ‘Out Of Blue’, Mansell’s dark and hypnotic score enhances the moody and menacing moments in the neo-noir murder mystery based on the novel ‘Night Train’ by Martin Amis.

Says Morley in the soundtrack’s liner notes: “So, here we have it, this soaring, heart shifting, mind bending soundtrack for ‘Out Of Blue’. It takes you about and around and inside yourself. It propels, it develops, it leads us places. It is true to the film, but doesn’t illustrate what we see. It has its own energy, its own beautiful hidden depths, and it creates its own star spangled mystery.”

For fans of ‘PI’, ‘Black Mirror’, ‘Requiem For A Dream’, ‘Stranger Things’, ‘Drive’.

            High-Rise OST

Golden Globe and Grammy nominated composer Clint Mansell’s brooding, edgy and beautifully unsettled orchestral score to Ben Wheatley’s eagerly awaited film adaptation of JG Ballard’s High-Rise.

Described by Hollywood Reporter as “a lustrous retro-classical score bursting with ironic good cheer”, Clint Mansell’s music has a meaty, steadfast presence throughout the visual spectacular of the savage societal breakdown.

Former Pop Will Eat Itself frontman turned soundtrack composer, Clint Mansell is best known for his work with long time collaborator Darren Aronofsky (Requiem for a Dream, Black Swan, The Fountain, Noah). He also scored Duncan Jones’ Directorial debut Moon, and has lent to his talent to films as diverse as Filth, Faster, and Last Night.

Starring Tom Hiddleston, Jeremy Irons, Sienna Miller, Luke Evans, Elisabeth Moss, High-Rise is a visionary tale of human society slipping into extreme violence. The once-peaceful residents of a desirable apartment block quickly spiral into a world ruled by primal urges in which elevators become vicious battlegrounds and cocktail parties degenerate into brutal raids on "enemy" floors.

In The Wall - Original Score

THIS IS A RECORD STORE DAY 2014 EXCLUSIVE, LIMITED TO ONE PER PERSON.

Death Waltz Recording Company are extremely proud to present their first release by major Hollywood composer Clint Mansell (REQIUEM FOR A DREAM, NOAH), the score to the award-winning 2007 horror short IN THE WALL. Telling the surreal story of a man who accidentally kills his pregnant wife and hides her body in a cavity wall, only to be haunted by visions of her corpse escaping, the film deftly moves from psychological horror to creature feature propelled by Mansell’s intense music. The score is anchored by the main theme, a versatile string melody that moves from sinister to emotional to tragic to perfectly match the shocking events of the film. Mansell’s work continues in the same vein as the music composed for Darren Aronofsky’s films with the Kronos Quartet, expertly mixing the stripped-down string sound with electronic elements and percussion to create a vivid colour palette. The music plays with the conventions of the genre, at times Bernard Herrman-esque high strings pierce the silence, while intense electric guitar and feedback alternate with sparse, echoing drums. The electronics slowly undulate beneath the surface, winding up the tension and used more as a textural device until the final trip-hop rendition of the main theme takes your breath away. A classic score from a truly brilliant composer.

Featuring exclusive cover art by Jay Shaw and sleeves notes from Clint Mansell.

                Package includes a 48 x 48 poster and 12 x 12 lithograph.
