Antidepressants

Suede have announced details of their 10th studio album ‘Antidepressants’. Due for release on 5th September via BMG, the album is a milestone achievement that sees the band at the top of their game. It follows the success of their critically-acclaimed ninth top 10 album ‘Autofiction’ released in September 2022, which charted at No.2 on the UK Albums Chart and was their highest-charting release in over 20 years.

Suede will celebrate the release of ‘Antidepressants’ with a takeover of London’s Southbank Centre, through a series of exciting live performances kicking off in September, Suede’s four-night residency will commence with two consecutive nights at the Royal Festival Hall on September 13th and 14th, followed on September 17th by an intimate stripped-back performance at the Purcell Room, culminating in a collaboration with the Paraorchestra on September 19th at the Queen Elizabeth Hall.

    STAFF COMMENTS

Barry says: Suede were there before Oasis, hammering away at the Britpop bell, but they've not stayed there, they've chameleonically and expertly shifted through various states of indie-adjacent heaviness and landed on 'Antidepressants', a roaring garagey slab of snarling post-britpop heft. Lovely.

expanded edition brings together the original set alongside a newly
        compiled second volume.

Volume 1 is split across CD1 and CD2 and includes B-sides from the
'Suede', 'Dog Man Star', and 'Coming Up' eras—tracks as compelling as the
band’s studio albums. Standout songs include 'My Insatiable One', 'He’s
Dead', 'The Living Dead', 'My Dark Star', 'Europe Is Our Playground' and
        'Killing of a Flash Boy'.

CD3 features 'Sci-Fi Lullabies: Volume 2', specially curated by frontman
Brett Anderson for Record Store Day 2025. It consists of 19 selected cuts
spanning the band’s trajectory from 1999 to 2023. Where ‘Sci-Fi
Lullabies’ left off after ‘Coming Up’, ‘Volume 2’ collects the crop of bonus
tracks released from ‘Head Music’, in 1999 to 2022’s ‘Autofiction’ -with tracks ‘Blinded’ (previously unreleased) & ‘Manipulation’ are making
their first-ever appearance on CD here.

The artwork and design for this 3CD edition have been created by
Suede’s official designer and photographer, Paul Khera. The design
features a die-cut outer sleeve allowing fans to alternate between the
        two 'Sci-Fi Lullabies Volume' covers.

A must-have for Suede fans and Britpop lovers alike, this 'Sci-Fi Lullabies'

Dog Man Star - 30th Anniversary Edition

“Suede's second album is still truly extraordinary – who would dare make it today?” Alexis Petridis (The Guardian).

Suede’s era-defining second album from 1994 celebrates its 30th anniversary this year with this brand-new, very limited UK Dinked retail exclusive on 2LP yellow gatefold packaging with an exclusive 7” single. The package is limited to 1200 copies and the 2-sided bonus 7” includes ’The Living Dead (Piano Version)’ and ‘La Puissance (The Power)’ on vinyl for the first time.

‘Dog Man Star’ is seen by many as Suede’s most musically adventurous album – sweeping strings sit next to orchestral ballads, epic widescreen pieces, indie anthems and trashy glam rock. It was the last album to feature the band’s guitarist and co-songwriter Bernard Butler. It includes the classic hit singles ‘We Are The Pigs’, ‘The Wild Ones’, and ‘New Generation’. Art and design for this new format has been undertaken for Suede by official designer and photographer Paul Khera and includes new sleeve notes by Cure / Manic Street Preachers biographer Simon Price.

Also available for the 30th anniversary are 2LP black vinyl halfspeed master, and a 3CD in Deluxe 7” packaging containing the original album, B-sides, bonus tracks from the ‘Dog Man Star’ era and booklet.

Here They Come With Their Make-Up On : Suede, Coming Up . . . And More Adventures Beyond The Wild Frontiers

There were only a handful of people in the world who still really believed in Suede at the time, and five of them were in the band. Brett Anderson, Suede. Suede were Marmite at the time, and I was expecting the press to trash them.

Every meeting I had with the record company, I was told they were done for. Ed Buller, Coming Up producer. How did they do that? Comeback of the century.

Select magazine cover, November 1996. Here They Come with Their Make-Up On examines in exquisite detail how Suede emerged from the chaotic, ruined remnants of their career and somehow managed to conjure up their most joyously evocative and celebrated album to date. Coming Up the extraordinary record in question stumped the band s most ardent critics and hit the jackpot, with sales that eclipsed those of their first two releases combined.

As the band s publicist throughout that period, Jane is uniquely placed to reveal exactly how they did it. This book is also a personal journey into the heart of an album that Jane loves if not unconditionally then as a piece of work that has ultimately survived the ravages of time and the brutish, nasty, and not-so-short nature of the media scrutiny that had threatened to confine the band to the dustbin of history. In addition, it features yet more outlandish tales from Jane s time with Suede and those around them back then, as well as new interviews with band members Brett Anderson, Richard Oakes, and Neil Codling, and Coming Up s producer, Ed Buller.

Released in March 1993, Suede’s self-titled debut was a critical and commercial triumph, winning the prestigious Mercury Music Prize and hitting the #1 spot on the UK Album Chart. “30 years ago, this is where it all began A mixture of the live songs that had won us a following and our first experiments in the studio Listening back now it still has that sense of wildness, and drama, and possibility of those early days So young and so gone, indeed!” – Mat Osman The album has been newly mastered by Phil Kinrade at AIR from the original ½” tapes and production masters, overseen and approved by producer Ed Buller. The nine B-sides are now included on a second CD, along with a cover of ‘Brass in Pocket’, recorded for an NME covermount cassette. Beautiful Ones - Music Box

'Beautiful Ones' is the second single from Suede's seminal 1996 album ‘Coming Up’. Released through Nude Records, the song was a top-ten hit in the UK & quickly became a staple of the band’s live set - capturing the atmosphere of the era. “I wanted the song to be a celebration of the madness of mine and my friends lives” frontman Brett Anderson told the NME, “it’s probably the song that we’ve had sung back to us the most… one of those songs that’s really taken on a life of its own, because it just connects with people - they feel it’s about them, and it is.” Our version of this anthemic classic is guaranteed to make Your Bits Shake to the Hits, so why not…

                          Autofiction

Suede return with their ninth studio album Autofiction, set for release via BMG.

As Suede began work on the songs that would become Autofiction, they decided to go back to basics. In a move that recalled their most formative days, Brett Anderson, Mat Osman, Simon Gilbert, Richard Oakes and Neil Codling schlepped to a rehearsal studio in deserted Kings Cross to collect a key, hump their own gear, set up and start playing.

Speaking about Autofiction, Brett Anderson said: "Autofiction is our punk record. No whistles and bells. Just the five of us in a room with all the glitches and fuck-ups revealed; the band themselves exposed in all their primal mess."

First single ‘She Still Leads Me On’ is the track that reconfigured what the album could be. A beautiful song written from Brett to his late mother. As its title suggests, Autofiction is one of Anderson’s most personal records yet. Reflecting on the process of writing acclaimed works of memoir Coal Black Mornings and Afternoons With The Blinds Drawn helped Brett get a newfound perspective on himself as a performer and singer in the public eye, much of which has bled into the lyricism of Autofiction.
