                Suede - 30th Anniversary Edition

Released in March 1993, Suede’s self-titled debut was a critical and commercial triumph, winning the prestigious Mercury Music Prize and hitting the #1 spot on the UK Album Chart. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of this landmark album, Edsel is proud to present this newly-mastered edition of the album. “It was a genuinely magical time in my life and one for which I’ll always be grateful It felt incredible being in what I thought was quite probably the most exciting band in the world at the time, making a record which felt like more than just another band making another album.” – Brett Anderson

“30 years ago, this is where it all began A mixture of the live songs that had won us a following and our first experiments in the studio Listening back now it still has that sense of wildness, and drama, and possibility of those early days So young and so gone, indeed!” – Mat Osman The album has been newly mastered by Phil Kinrade at AIR from the original ½” tapes and production masters, overseen and approved by producer Ed Buller. The nine B-sides are now included on a second CD, along with a cover of ‘Brass in Pocket’, recorded for an NME covermount cassette. In recent times, Brett has commented that in hindsight, he would have included some of the B-sides in the album’s tracklisting.

                    Beautiful Ones - Music Box

'Beautiful Ones' is the second single from Suede's seminal 1996 album ‘Coming Up’. Released through Nude Records, the song was a top-ten hit in the UK & quickly became a staple of the band’s live set - capturing the atmosphere of the era. “I wanted the song to be a celebration of the madness of mine and my friends lives” frontman Brett Anderson told the NME, “it’s probably the song that we’ve had sung back to us the most… one of those songs that’s really taken on a life of its own, because it just connects with people - they feel it’s about them, and it is.” Our version of this anthemic classic is guaranteed to make Your Bits Shake to the Hits, so why not…

                      Autofiction

Suede return with their ninth studio album Autofiction, set for release via BMG.

As Suede began work on the songs that would become Autofiction, they decided to go back to basics. In a move that recalled their most formative days, Brett Anderson, Mat Osman, Simon Gilbert, Richard Oakes and Neil Codling schlepped to a rehearsal studio in deserted Kings Cross to collect a key, hump their own gear, set up and start playing.

Speaking about Autofiction, Brett Anderson said: "Autofiction is our punk record. No whistles and bells. Just the five of us in a room with all the glitches and fuck-ups revealed; the band themselves exposed in all their primal mess."

First single ‘She Still Leads Me On’ is the track that reconfigured what the album could be. A beautiful song written from Brett to his late mother. As its title suggests, Autofiction is one of Anderson’s most personal records yet. Reflecting on the process of writing acclaimed works of memoir Coal Black Mornings and Afternoons With The Blinds Drawn helped Brett get a newfound perspective on himself as a performer and singer in the public eye, much of which has bled into the lyricism of Autofiction.

                        The Suede Crocodiles

Stop The Rain - 2022 Reissue

Formed in post-Postcard Glasgow as Popgun, Kevin McDermott (vocals/ guitar), Davie McCormick (drums), and Ross Drummond (bass/vocals) were joined by Roddy Johnson (guitar/vocals). In 1983, they changed their name to The Suede Crocodiles and released ‘Stop the Rain’ on the NoStrings label.

Single of the Week in both NME and Melody Maker, this jagged-edged, spiky pop-punk single caught the ear of many. The Suede Crocodiles went on to tour the UK with Nick Heyward.

The band split before releasing their second single, ‘Paint Yourself A Rainbow’ with songwriter and lead vocalist Kevin McDermott going on to form the Kevin McDermott Orchestra and having a successful solo career.
