    Run The Jewels

Run The Jewels - 2022 Reissue

Mixing the industrial grime of New York City with the vibrant bounce of the dirty South, they forge hip-hop's future while adhering to the core tenets of its bedrock: gymnastic displays of skills, incendiary political rhetoric, merciless braggadocio, battle-honed assholery, R-rated punchlines and a back-and-forth that brings the interplay of the shell-toe Adidas era screaming into our contemporary nightmare.

Tearing up the music industry rulebook, their self-titled 2013 debut was originally released through a series of website- crashing free album downloads. Featuring Outkast's Big Boi on Banana Clipper and Prince Paul on Twin Hype Back, it's a "rough and rabid ride"; a "swaggering victory lap for two artists at the peak

El-P (Company Flow / Def Jux co-founder) and Killer Mike (Grind Time Official) release their collaborative and acclaimed ‘Run The Jewels’ album via Big Dada.

The record features new, previously unreleased material, available in Europe for the first time on CD and as a deluxe vinyl edition complete with a new track featuring DJ Q-Bert (Invisibl Skratch Piklz), remixes by Dave Sitek (TV On The Radio) and Blue Sky Black Death, as well as remix instrumentals.

Big Dada: “We're incredibly excited to be releasing Run The Jewels. El-P was one of the early inspirations behind Big Dada, and is one of the all-time great driving forces of forward-thinking rap music. His partnership with one of the most intelligent, fluent and ferocious MCs out there, Killer Mike, is hugely exciting and we think 'Run The Jewels' is the rap record of 2014 and then some."

        RTJ4

Run The Jewels, the lauded duo of El-P and Killer Mike, have shared the long-awaited details of their feverishly anticipated new album, Run The Jewels 4.

This eleven song, 40 minute powerhouse is their most ferocious and focused effort to date, and sports a lineup of all-star guests including Pharrell Williams, Mavis Staples, 2 Chainz, Zack de la Rocha, Josh Homme, DJ Premier, and Greg Nice. Recorded primarily at Rick Rubin’s Shangri-La Studios and the iconic Electric Lady Studios in NYC, RTJ4 represents two years of intensive writing, recording, distilling, and amplifying the most potent elements of their music.

The result is a collection of wall-to-wall bangers illuminating the group's unique ability to straddle the worlds of pointed social commentary and raw, boisterous fun.

          STAFF COMMENTS

Patrick says: Bombastic, aggressive, assertive, political and absolutely effin BANGING, RTJ are back to save you from whack MCs and company stooges. Fire from start to finish here, but I'm advising you to bump "Ooh La La", the prescient "Walking In The Snow" and the trapping "JU$T" featuring RATM's Zack De La Rocha.

Two years on from the audio fire of "RTJ2" and the audio fur of "Meow The Jewels", rap's most turnt up duo El-P and Killer Mike are back on wax, ready to smash the set all over again. Since we last heard from them, the duo have transformed from underground stalwarts to a global rap juggernaut, spawning an international art movement, radio show, several Marvel comic cover variants, characters in a video game, their own Virtual Reality initiative (VRTJ) and a whole host of critical acclaim. But don't get it twisted, our heroes are still as hot and hungry as ever, devouring rhymes and defecating beats in non-stop beast mode on "RTJ3". Working alongside Danny Brown, TV On The Radio's Tunde, Kamasi Washington and more, El-P and Mike trade hard hitting bars at headspinning pace over the nastiest, bass blasting beats you're gonna hear all year. Featuring the recently released singles “2100 (ft. BOOTS)” and “Talk To Me”, the duo's third album proper may well be their best. Play this shit LOUD!

          STAFF COMMENTS

Patrick says: El-P & Killer Mike are back in the house with their finest release to date. Spitting pure gangsta shit over heavyweight bass and neck snapping beats, the duo keep the vibe feisty throughout. So howbow dah?
