Bargain hunters! We've been busy with a Spring clear out, with loads of items added to the SPRING SALE SECTION. Peep for pure bargains. I've just added loads of house and techno on top of what was already there. Some proper gold - at silver prices! ;)
We've a triple pronged attack of Piccadilly favourites leading the albums of the week this week. Michael Head sends Andy into a tizwoz every time he has a new album out, and "Loophole"'s had our excitable scouser gyrating so hard he's only gone and done his knee in - true story! Hope ya feeling better Andy lad (he'll be listening to "Loophole" horizontal on the sofa no doubt - Ed). Meanwhile Lancaster's finest, The Lovely Eggs expand on their already impressive discography with new album (brilliantly named) "Eggsistentialism". They're in the shop this Saturday to celebrate, signing records, playing tunes and maybe, just maybe, bringing their guitars along for the ride. It promises to be a reet fun afternoon I tell thee!
Completing the top drawer tryptic this week, Beth Gibbons shouldn't need much of an introduction after all her work with Portishead, but "Lives Outgrown" is, surprisingly her FIRST solo album (!!!). A stunning collection of woozy psychedelic folk and intimate downbeat business; it's a logical, dot-to-dot progression for this era-defining artist who's serendipitously timed her resurrection with the on-trend rejuvenation of trip hop - automatically making her a 'bit of a legend' with the under 30s as well as those who grew up with Portishead a household name. Defo check it out.
Psychederek's "Alt!" is probably my favourite 12" of the week. The Stretford DJ and producer has been making waves across Manchester (and Stockport by all accounts, from those who attended last weekend's Luke Unabomber spearheaded street party...). "Alt!" is a mammoth display of talent across a humble four tracks - but wait till you hear his jazz-funk cover version of 808 State's "Pacific" - true genius and probably the most played-out vinyl record by DJs this weekend*
Isle Of Jura have handily repressed "Instrumental Dubs #1" which I have to admit, I slept upon first time round. I like boogie best when it's dubbed out and this compilation highlights some of the best 'boogie dubs' in the field. Volume two went down a storm recently so nice to have this available retrospectively.
Whoops, I nearly forgot to mention Burial's remix of Luke Slater (under his LB Corp moniker). Probably sold out by the time you read this, but nice to see South London's shadow lurking garage pioneer back in the game. We heart Will Bevan, and all that.

Big shouts to Rhod and all the dancers, DJs and crew at The DBA last Saturday who attended the Open To Close garden party. Also looking ahead - Pasta Paul is DJing at Matt & Phread's on Sat 25th May as part of Manchester Jazz Festival. 1pm - 4pm (nice and sensible - 'jazz hours' as I like to call them). More info on that next week but gerrit marked on yer calendars init.
