2016 is the 50th Anniversary of Rocksteady; the down tempo cousin to Ska that ruled Jamaican dancefloors from 1966 – 1968, when the national beat shifted to reggay (now spelled reggae). Although short lived, the riddims and vibe of Rocksteady have influenced pop and dance music in every decade that has followed. To celebrate, VP Records has sifted through collectors lists of the most sought after titles and collected them on this double vinyl LP. As you nod your head to the mellow sounds found within you'll hear classic cuts from the Heptones, Alton Ellis, Lee Perry & Johnny Nash, alongside obscurities and unclassics from the much loved genre.
1977 dub classic with Prince Jammy at the controls. Long awaited re-issue in the iconic original sleeve of the crucial dub companion to Horace Andy's classic "In the Light" that was given confirmed dub album classic status by its 1995 Blood & Fire edition. It's re-issued here on two separate vinyl formats - this one featuring the 'In The Light Dub' set (in its iconic original sleeve), and the other featuring the original 10 vocal tracks. Horace Andy's profile already legendary in reggae circles, has been internationally raised by his work with Massive Attack and his continued live presence.
