The album paints a bold portrait of how it is to be a female artist today – amid capitalist trappings, existential uncertainties, and constant feeling that you’re out of step with other people your age.
Royer borrowed the term “Young-Girl” from Preliminary Materials for the Theory of a Young-Girl, originally published in French anarchist journal Tiqqun. The book portrays the Young-Girl as a symbol of consumerism under modernity.
'Young-Girl Forever' oscillates between optimism and doom – it celebrates the Young-Girl while also rebuking the culture that created her, and so expresses desire for true liberation.
