Del The Funky Homosapien

Future Development - 2026 Reissue

'Future Development' is Del the Funky Homosapien’s third album and, following his departure from major label Elektra, his first solo full-length for his independent label, Hieroglyphics Imperium Recordings. Originally released on cassette in 1997, and later reissued on CD and vinyl in 2002, the album largely relied on in-house production from Del along with contributions from Hiero crew members A-Plus, Opio, and Toure. The only guest feature on the album is from crew member Casual, who joins Del on the energetic 'Checking Out The Rivalry'.

Sonically, 'Future Development' bridges the funk-heavy stylings of Del’s debut with the darker, more futuristic textures he explored on 'No Need for Alarm'. Lyrically, Del refines his rapid-fire wordplay with sharper thematic focus, tackling life in Oakland, societal observations and hip-hop culture, all with a blend of humor, streetwise insight, and multi-syllabic dexterity. Ultimately, the album captures a snapshot of his progression from raw talent to a more conceptually matured songwriter. It remains a significant and under-appreciated chapter in Del’s evolution, showcasing early seeds of the creativity and independence that would come to define much of his career thereafter.

Abstract Tribe Unique

South Central Thynk Taynk - 2026 Reissue

Originally released in 1998, 'South Central Thynk Taynk' by Abstract Tribe Unique (Abstract Rude, Fat Jack, Zulu Butterfly Priest, Irie Lion King, and DJ Drez.) captured a pivotal moment in Los Angeles’ underground scene—when young Black artists were reimagining hip-hop from the ground up. Blending jazz-inflected beats, spiritual insight, and fiercely independent production, the
album became an anthem for self-reliance and creative rebellion.

At the cultural core of the record is Project Blowed, a legendary L.A. crew founded by Abstract Rude and Aceyalone, which birthed a lineage of rap innovators whose fingerprints are still felt in global hip-hop. While mainstream rap embraced the West Coast’s G-funk boom, the Blowed crew forged an alternate path—steeped in jazz, radical politics, and Afrocentric futurism. 'South Central Thynk Taynk' stands as a richly layered time capsule from this revolutionary moment, pairing Ab Rude’s deep lyricism with Fat Jack’s genre-melding approach to production, creating a poetic reflection on family, struggle, and artistic purpose.

This new edition includes the 'L.A. Styles Back (Project Blowed Remix)' featuring a cross-generational lineup of heavyweights— Aceyalone, Myka 9, Medusa, Pigeon John, Blu, 2Mex, Ellay Khule, Riddlore, and NGAFSH—underscoring how L.A.’s underground has remained a creative epicenter for decades. 'South Central Thynk Taynk' is more than a cult artifact; it’s a living document of transformation, community, and artistic power.

Atmosphere

Jestures

On 'Jestures', Atmosphere’s sprawling new album, Slug digs deep into the complexities of life, confronting the unexpected points of friction in middle-aged domesticity and stability. Long past the belief that great art needs great pain, he challenges the notion that creativity must stem from trauma. Instead, their fifth release of the 2020s explores a different kind of tension—one rooted in reflection, responsibility, and the quiet revelations of daily life. The result is a record that captures personal evolution without romanticizing the past or fearing the future.

The album’s format is as ambitious as its themes: 26 songs, each beginning with a different letter of the alphabet, sequenced in order from A to Z. Even the guest features follow suit — Evidence appears on 'Effortless', Kurious on 'Kilowatts', and Musab, Muja Messiah, and Mike the Martyr all land on 'Mash'. While the tracklist might seem sprawling, many of these songs are deceptively short — often just one or two verses — delivering their core ideas with surgical precision. The effect is a curated, flowing mosaic that captures a full emotional and creative arc without overstaying its welcome.

More than a retrospective, 'Jestures' is a meditation on movement and meaning — on how time shapes us, and how even the mundane can be transformative. Slug blends past and present with ease, referencing iconic Atmosphere sounds while exploring evolving relationships, memory, and self-awareness. Ant’s rich production provides the perfect backdrop, shifting between electro-glitch, somber drones, and playful twang. At its heart, 'Jestures' is a story of progress, building toward a future defined by resilience and creative clarity.

Aesop Rock

Roadwork Rappin'

After delighting fans of all ages with the surprise children’s hit 'Long Legged Larry', underground hip-hop icon Aesop Rock returns with 'Roadwork Rappin’, a joyful ode to construction vehicles and the kids who love them. Inspired by the fascination many children have with bulldozers, front loaders, and cranes, the track delivers clever rhymes and vivid descriptions in classic Aesop fashion—this time with a whimsical twist. Over a minimal beat with a bouncing bass line that evokes the lumbering roll of oversized construction tires, Aesop celebrates the sights and sounds of work zones, bringing dump trucks and backhoes to life with vivid wordplay. The song is part educational, part imaginative world-building, capturing the wonder of watching giant machines reshape our surroundings. What makes it shine is Aesop’s funny and wildly specific wit, packaged in a format that’s approachable for younger listeners but still rewarding for longtime fans. With 'Roadwork Rappin’, Aesop continues to expand his creative universe in unexpected ways, proving once again that his pen knows no bounds. Whether it’s blaring from a car seat playlist or sparking nostalgia in adults who once chased garbage trucks down the block, this track is a joyful celebration of curiosity, machinery, and the poetry hiding in plain sight.

Aesop Rock

Black Hole Superette

'Black Hole Superette', the latest album from Aesop Rock, delves into the invisible forces that shape our lives and psyches. It’s about the small, often overlooked moments—the everyday experiences that blur the lines between the real and the unreal, waking and sleeping. Aesop’s signature gift for transforming the mundane into something dreamlike gives the album a surreal quality, leaving listeners questioning what’s truly real as they navigate its vivid, half-remembered imagery.

Entirely self-produced, 'Black Hole Superette' is one of Aesop Rock’s most technically accomplished works to date. The album’s intricate beats and complex structures provide the perfect backdrop for his expansive lyricism, balancing cerebral exploration with emotional depth. From the reflective 'Movie Night' and the eccentric 'Send Help' to the wistful 'Black Plums,' Aesop channels the spirit of a mad scientist, experimenting with sound and concept in ways that defy the ordinary.

With a stellar lineup of collaborators that includes Lupe Fiasco, Armand Hammer, Hanni El Khatib, Open Mike Eagle and Homeboy Sandman, 'Black Hole Superette' is dense and kinetic, an album that deftly navigates between complexity and instinct. It’s clear this project stands as one of Aesop Rock’s most multifaceted and ambitious works yet.
