Exotica - Vinyl Reissue

Original Mono recording preferred by Martin Denny and featuring Arthur Lyman & Augie Colon. “Exotica” spawned an entire genre and the birth of the Tiki/Cocktail movement starts here.

As the name may suggest, this LP by the prolific Martin Denny spawned an entire genre. Originally released in 1956, “Exotica” is much more than a piece of history. First off, the songs are all outstanding. Based on jazz, folk and an imagined other, this is an early example of mind altering music, setting you in a dreamy state with its haunting melodies and the sound of wild animals in the jungle trees. Rhythmically rooted in Latin music, the LP sways from mambo via samba to bossa nova while asian harmonies drift above. Though these colorful tunes conjure scenes from indonesia and Japan, when you listen closely you'll recognize melodies that would fit well with US western movie soundtracks. On its original release, America was in thrall to the spage age movement, floating a few feet of the couch as the sci-fi sounds took hold. Denny was no different, so you might feel like flying away from time to time, but this journey always ends on a beautiful island in the South Pacific where pretty girls and boys dance to hot blooded savage rhythms. When you desire to rest your mind beneath palm trees and have a sip of your favorite tiki-cocktail, this is the ticket to your plane.

West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band

    Part One - 2022 Reissue

Sourced From The Master Tapes. Original Mono Mixes. Initially Released 1967. Includes printed inner sleeve with rare master reel photos. “The Weirdest, most original man-made sensation I’ve ever experienced.” - Career Magazine (1967). Formed in Los Angeles in 1965, The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band were considered by many to be the West Coast’s answer to the Velvet Underground. The group created California psych/rock music that was both fragile and dreamy. Part One was originally released in 1967 on Frank Sinatra’s Reprise Records. Though they didn’t achieve the fame or notoriety of other bands from the area, they have nonetheless achieved a cult status among collectors and people curious about a rich, albeit short-lived musical genre known as West-Coast Psychedelia. First time reissued in mono, from the original master tapes.

      Dr. John

      Gris Gris (Original MONO Mix)

1968 Debut Record, this is the Original MONO mix. The first time this has been reissued and its on Limited Green Vinyl. 1968 Debut album from the king of the psychedelic bayou – the hypnotic, mystical and powerful sound of the swamp coming to life. As he became Dr. John (real name Mac Rebennack), it was his LA session work with musicians like Sonny & Cher, Canned Heat, and Zappa that allowed him to start conjuring up his visions of guitar psych-pop to walk alongside his authentic New Orleans upbringing.

While “Gris Gris” contains moments that make it a type stamped symbol of its era, it might have well been made in outer space. Recorded in its own psychic and stylistic vacuum, the album borrows as heavily from the New Orleans’ musical culture in which he grew up as it does the looming continuous pulse of war, heavy drugs, and the end of the free love/hippie movement. The album was taken under the wing of a small percentage of the “underground” upon its release in 1968 and did not find a true following for years.

        The Ceyleib People

        Tanyet (RSD22 EDITION)

Originally released in 1968 as an LA studio concept album, this instrumental album is a remarkable fusion of the psychedelic sounds of sitar and mellotron with angular guitar riffs and hard drum breaks. Featuring a lineup of Ry Cooder, Jim Gordon (Joe Cocker, Derek and the Dominos, George Harrison, Traffic, Frank Zappa, Alice Cooper and many more), Mike Deasy (Eddie Cochran, Phil Spector, Everly Brothers, Elvis Presley, The Monkees, The Beach Boys and many more), and The Wrecking Crew (Los Angeles' top studio session musicians).

The band recorded only this one album and most of the personnel went on to greater achievements. The quintessence of psychedelic rock in its full-blooming 1968ness. Features original cover artwork by Rick Griffin (Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, Neil Young).

"You wanna know something? Every now and then say, "What the fuck." "What the fuck" gives you freedom. Freedom brings opportunity. Opportunity makes your future." Risky Business 1983. Inspired by a "What the fuck” philosophy, "Loosen The Lead And Spoil The Dogs" is a throwback to days when artists crafted records to be listened to as albums.

This third full-length from Colossal Yes (a project masterminded by Comets On Fire drummer Utrillo Kushner) embraces unhinged power pop, bleary-eyed classic rock, and channels the late-night, art with meaning vibe, of early 70’s singer-songwriters. The result is an album that rides high with optimism like an unscratched lottery ticket. Lyrics are placed in the forefront of the action drawing inspiration from various literary and pop culture topics. When all assembled the end product is a canon of lyrical imagery and sun-soaked open-ended possibility.

The ten songs that comprise "Loosen The Lead..." concentrate on thought and a groove, ultimately ending up with the only acceptable conclusion... "What the fuck." Joining Kushner in this recording were friends and cohorts including Ben Chasney (Six Organs of Admittance, Comets On Fire, Raganda), Ben Flashman (Comets On Fire), Noel Von Harmonson (Sic Alps, Comets On Fire) as well as members of Aisler's Set, East Bay Grease, Howling Rain and many others.
