Kyuss were pioneers of stoner rock before the term even existed. Formed in 1990 by guitarist Josh Homme, bassist Nick Oliveri, vocalist John Garcia and drummer Brant Bjork they'd jam for days out in the Californian desert at wild 'desert parties' defining their unique sound. "Wretch" was their debut album issued in 1991 on the independent Dali label. The god-created, earth-shaking riffs are all in place as is the down-tuned guitar and heavy drum kick - don't expect finesse this is the band at it's rawest. Josh Homme, of course, went onto bigger things with Queens Of The Stone Age.
