About this item
Badly Drawn Boy along with sparring partner Andy Votel began work on "One Plus One Is One" in June 2003 at Stockport's Moulin Rouge Studio. A simpler and more spacious record than "Have You Fed The Fish". It was meant to be that way. Sure there are some sonic shenanigans and a playfulness that speaks of the relaxed atmosphere this record was created in, but it stands or falls on the quality of the songs. It stands. It is truly a return to the homegrown feel of "The Hour Of The Bewilderbeast" and it's probably Damon's most heartfelt record. Sound-wise, there's plenty of piano, and a lovely flute flutters around some of it, but Damon's finger-picking is his best-yet too. He doesn't seem to be goofing around as much, either; it's time to get real, with songs of love, family and friends. From the superb sleeve in this is a cosy, homely record and a big return to form.
