As part of Record Store Day 2024 Polydor (UK) and Universal Music Recordings are releasing Siouxsie and the Bansheesí 1983 Live album Nocturne performed at the iconic Royal Albert Hall. Pressed on two 140g Black vinyl records, mastered and cut half speed from the original analogue tapes at Abbey Road Studios.November of 2023 saw Nocturne turn 40 years old and has not had an official vinyl press since. To celebrate this unique live album Siouxsie Sioux and Steven Severin have overseen a new direction of the already iconic artwork, 16 tracks taken from those two nights over the 30th September and 1st of October 1983, a new gatefold sleeve, printed inners and few extra surprises to discover. The Royal Albert Hall performances would see Sioux on vocals, Severin on bass guitar, Budgie ñ drums and Robert Smith (of the Cure) who at the time was a full time member of Siouxsie and the Banshees on guitar. Over the two nights the Banshees would play two different set lists, the songs making up Nocturne are hand picked by the band as their ideal setlist from the two gigs. With songs taken from Juju, it also features a few B-sides and live performances of Beatles covers Helter Skelter and Dear Prudence. The music heard in the introduction before ìIsraelî is an excerpt from The Rite of Spring, composed in 1913 by Igor Stravinsky Nocturne was lauded for its no-nonsense introduction to the bandís music for neophytes, while fans of the group will appreciate the tight, gutsy, stripped-down performances. In 2013, the album was included in The Quietusí list of its writersí 40 favourite live albums. Julian Marszalek wrote: ìNocturne stands as both a representation of where they were at that point in their career and their status as an incredible live band. Be it Budgieís precise and muscular rhythms, Steven Severinís flanged bass, Siouxsieís commanding presence or Robert Smithís interpretation of other guitaristsí material, the performance is magnificent and convincing throughout. By cherry picking their finest material, Nocturne was ñ and still is ñ a kind of alternate Greatest Hits that acts as a gateway to their kaleidoscopic world. Although forming on a punky whim in 1976 the Banshees remain one of the most influential and enigmatic bands of our time, worlds apart from their contemporaries and a cut above the rest. Unapologetically singular, confrontational, ever evolving yet all encompassing. The Banshees are as important now and even more so than they have ever been and continue to influence future generations by introducing their music and imagery through such hits as ëStranger Thingsí, Stephen Kings ëITí and Edgar Wrights ëLast Night in Sohoí.

        Mantaray - 2023 Reissue

Siouxsie Sioux’s debut solo album ‘Mantaray’ is to be reissued with new artwork.

The new version of the album accompanies Siouxsie’s first UK dates in ten years and her first in Europe and the US since 2008 which are being received with rapturous acclaim. She will be playing a mixture of intimate shows and festivals from now through September.

‘Mantaray’ has been remastered and cut at half speed by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios and is being released on vinyl for the first time since its original release in 2007. The black and limited edition Indies-only red vinyl versions and the ‘mini LP’ sleeve CD all feature new artwork.

‘Mantaray’ saw Siouxsie revel in a sense of freedom, producing something much more expansive than her previous work. The first single from the album, the spellbinding ‘Into A Swan’ proved that Siouxsie was still very much in control. Fans and media alike embraced the record, and the ensuing tour sold out wherever it went. For those who had only dipped into her previous work, a new slew of delights and surprises met them on the record itself and at the live shows.

Siouxsie Sioux has released 16 critically acclaimed studio albums with Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Creatures and her solo debut, Mantaray. Siouxsie's last solo music was ‘Love Crime’ a track written and recorded for the finale of the lauded TV series ‘Hannibal’.

Siouxsie And The Banshees - The Early Years

Monday 20th September 1976 saw one of the most unexpected moments in music history when what was to become one of the most iconic, important and mimicked bands of the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s took to the stage at The 100 Club in Oxford Street, London. A last-minute addition to the '100 Club Punk Special' that included The Clash, Sex Pistols, Buzzcocks and The Damned, an unknown Siouxsie and The Banshees, comprising Sid Vicious, Steve Severin, Marco Pirroni and Siouxsie Sioux, unleashed twenty minutes of 'performance art' improvisation, featuring fragments of 'Deutschland, Deutschland, Uber Alles', 'Twist And Shout' and 'Satisfaction'. 'The Lord's Prayer', which was to become a staple of Siouxsie and The Banshees' early live repertoire, was a white-noise assault on the senses and a barometer of the alienation many teenagers felt from the bloated nature of mid-1970s 'arena rock'.

Several line-up changes later, in 1978, Siouxise and The Banshees were propelled into the pop stratosphere. Signed to a major record label, the band released 'Hong Kong Garden' and wrote one of the most influential post-punk albums of all time, The Scream, a savage critique of curtain-twitching suburbia, the cheap titillation of the tabloids, and the dangers of believing and following any one doctrine. 1979's Join Hands, influenced by the political landscape in Britain and further afield, and the catastrophic loss of life in World War One, was a milestone of the band's increasing maturity, from the adrenaline-fuelled stomp of 'Icon' to the phased guitar, saxophone and bells of 'Playground Twist'.

After a tour fraught with fractiousness, a new line up with Slits' drummer Budgie and Magazine guitarist John McGeogh, together with Siouxsie Sioux and Steve Severin, released the band's most experimental album, Kaleidoscope, which was a heady mix of psychedelia and sonorous adventures including the singles 'Happy House' and 'Christine'. Siouxsie and The Banshees The Early Years explores the adventures, trials and tribulations of a band defying categorisation. Their uncompromising brilliance is exemplified by three unique albums, which are chronicled in the pages of this authoritative survey.
