Here we have the superb new outing from We Are Willow, a self-styled 'multidisciplinary arts collective', who present a beautiful two-tracker in aid of Stockport Mind, an independent mental health charity working at delivering a range of essential services around the Stockport area.

First up we get the original mix, featuring an emotive stripped-back guitar line gently accentuated with Chris' gentle vocal line over the top, breaking out mid way through into a cavernous sweep of strummed and slide guitars, working around each other above the organic percussion. We revisit the quiet contemplative respite before the full choral power kicks in around the half-way mark, culminating into an emotive crescentic soar, as beatiful as it is effecting.

On the flipside, we get the emphasis based more on the reticent percussive backbone behind the original tune, but accentuated with a spoken word section interjecting before breaking into minimal acidic territory, providing an entirely contrasting idea but entirely in keeping emotionally. It's a bold juxtaposition, but one that ultimately helps to enhance both the diametric ideas and bring them together into a choesive and enjoyable whole.

Once again, conceptually superb and for a brilliant cause to boot. Top work once again from the venerable We Are Willow.

    We Are Willow

    Part 3

This third instalment from Chris Butler's We Are Willow project which sees him joined this time around by Sam Lench.
As the electric guitar and pounding drums of the brooding "Slow Moves" kick in, it's clear that this EP takes a very different direction from the previous two all acoustic affairs.
Next up, "Like Fire" is a mellower song with a slight nod to previous releases. "Bring You Round" starts off as stark and haunting and slowly builds into a psyche-rock jam. (Yes, really!)
And finally "Something To Keep In Mind" winds thing's up nicely with it's stripped back guitar and vocal simplicity.
So, in some ways, very different from what you'd expect from WAW, but the quality of the songwriting and ear for a melody are still there.

    STAFF COMMENTS

Andy says: A gently propulsive, campfire groover; a finger-picked drifter; a strummed shimmer and a lonesome harmonica ballad make up this quietly confident cd. It's urban folk with a hint of Badly Drawn Boy. Thoughtful.

    White Willow

    Sacrament

This their third album is full of melancholy, mystical neo-prog with the ethereal vocals of Sylvia Erichsen and huge keyboard sound of Brynjar Dambo lifting the dynamic range into the stratosphere. Intricate, classically influenced prog; perhaps a bit heavier than before but with all their trademark ingredients intact.

      White Willow

      Ignis Satuus

This scandanavian neo-prog band stay true to the real prog heritage of Gabriel-period Genesis, The keyboard work is pure Banks and the time cahnges and guitar could have come from "Nursery Cryme" or "Foxtrot". If you love that sound you'll love this band.

        White Willow

        Ex Tenebris

Their second album is an assured piece of neo-prog still with the Genesis influences coming through and with some of their strongest material, beautifully played and produced.
