CHOROPHOBIA

With their fourth studio album, 'CHOROPHOBIA', Weval faced their fears. When the pair stumbled across the phrase chorophobia - which means a fear of dancing - they decided to lean into the irony and get out of their comfort zones. “Until that point, we had always worked on records with a 'listening' mindset…we realised that we’ve been scared of making dance music for all of our journey as producers”.

The unrestricted, genre-crossing ethos of this record makes room for guilty pleasures, higher BPMs, big drops and an increased number of hi-hats.

    Night Versions EP

Ninja Tune imprint Technicolour are pleased to announce Weval’s new ‘Night Versions EP’.

Weval (Harm Coolen and Merijn Scholte Albers) are an Amsterdam-based duo who have established a solid reputation across the globe for crafting highly textured and sophisticated electronic music.

‘Night Versions’ are brand new, club-focused alternatives to key tracks from Weval’s recent critically acclaimed album, ‘Remember’.

Weval best describe the new versions here: “It was so much fun to return to the material and make some bold moves. Just to see how far we could push the tracks with the dancefloor in mind. We’ve been road-testing a few of these in our DJ sets lately, and it’s so rewarding to watch people dance and hear the tracks blasting on the dance floor. It’s addictively fun to experience and see the second life of the songs from the LP.”

For fans of Howling, Max Cooper, Kiasmos, Modeselektor, Apparat, David August, John Talabot, Dark Sky.

“The fully formed nature of their songwriting, sublime pacing and monolithically tasteful atmosphere is remarkable.” - Pitchfork

“An electronic force injecting a span of genres with thrill and clarity - Weval make the crossover that much more reachable.” - The Line of Best Fit

      “A kaleidoscopic, gut-turning, jaw-dropping wondrous journey” - Popmatters

      Remember

Weval (Harm Coolen and Merijn Scholte Albers) are an Amsterdam-based duo who have established a solid reputation across the globe for crafting highly textured and sophisticated electronic music. Pitchfork were quick to praise the talent of the duo, highlighting that the “fully-formed nature of their songwriting, sublime pacing and monolithically tasteful atmosphere is remarkable” in their 8.0 review for Weval’s self-titled debut album in 2016. Since they first released their “Half Age” EP in 2014 on Michael Mayer’s legendary Cologne-based Kompakt label, Weval have strived to test and improve their songwriting abilities by incorporating their own vocals and live instrumentation into their recordings, adding an extra dimension to their already impressive sound and in 2019 they released their second album The Weight to critical acclaim. Remember is their third album, and will be released on Ninja Tune imprint Technicolour. The first single from the album, “Never Stay For Love”, features Dutch singer/songwriter, Eefje de Visser.
