Landform Code - 2025 Reissue

WRWTFWW Records drop the first-ever vinyl release of Japanese electronic music producer Virgo’s debut album, "Landform Code", a forgotten underground classic from 1998, now finally available as a limited edition 45rpm cut double LP housed in a heavyweight sleeve.

Originally only released on CD by Tokyo-based cult label FORM@ RECORDS, "Landform Code" is an absolute gem of smooth, melodic Detroit techno infused with brilliant hints of acid, ambient, and IDM. It’s a dreamy, organic, and timeless record that captures the essence of late ‘90s electronic innovation with a deeply soulful touch.

The 12-track album, radiating with lush melodies, hypnotic rhythms, and textural detail, is an essential (hidden) treasure of electronic music history, transporting the listeners back to the pioneering days of Carl Craig, B12, The Black Dog, Ian O'Brien, or Warp’s Artificial Intelligence series, beautifully honoring its influences, while solidly standing on its own as a distinct and emotionally resonant piece from Japan’s underground scene.

"Landform Code" is released simultaneously with Virgo’s 1999 follow-up album Remnants, both excavated from the vaults of FORM@ RECORDS which has officially supervised the reissue efforts. This marks the first phase of a collaboration between the Swiss and Japanese labels – a project that will continue with forthcoming vinyl releases of FORM@ compilations "Art Form I" (1997), "Art Form 2" (1998), and "Re-Form Ver-1.0" (1999).

For fans of techno, house, ambient, IDM, acid, synth, Detroit, soulful electronic music, Carl Craig, Warp Records, B12, late 90s feels, machines with emotions.

STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Mysterious, previously CD-only release from Yasutaka Sato under his Virgo alias. Japan's answer to B12, Carl Craig and The Black Dog. Characterized by clean audio, sublime atmospheres and that poised sophistication held by all the underground electronic greats.

WRWTFWW Records drop the first-ever vinyl release of Japanese electronic music producer Virgo's unheralded sophomore album, "Remnants", a sleeper underground hit from 1999, now finally available as a limited edition 45rpm cut double LP housed in a heavyweight sleeve.
Released only on CD in 1999 by Tokyo-based cult label FORM@ RECORDS, "Remnants" is a quietly visionary record: mellow ambient techno, fluid electronica, and soul-laced atmospherics with the spirit of Detroit close to the heart. As the follow-up to his essential debut Landform Code, Virgo expands his palette here - working in widescreen textures, warm synth tones, and patient, emotive arrangements that feel both intimate and cinematic. The result is lush, heartfelt, and simply brilliant - a late '90s statement that rewards deep, repeated listening.
"Remnants" sits comfortably alongside the era's best explorations in soulful techno, ambient, and IDM, recalling the sensibilities of B12, The Black Dog, Ian O'Brien, and the lineage of labels Warp, Likemind and Clear, while remaining distinctly Virgo - subtle, sophisticated, and unexpectedly moving.
The album is released alongside Virgo's "Landform Code", also available on vinyl for the first time ever, as part of a collaborative reissue series between WRWTFWW and FORM@. It aslo signals more archival treasures to come : vinyl pressings of FORM@ compilations "Art Form I" (1997), "Art Form 2" (1998), and "Re-Form Ver-1.0" (1999).

For fans of techno, house, ambient, IDM, acid, synth, Detroit, soulful electronic music, emotive electronica, Carl Craig, B12, the Black Dog, labels such as Warp, Likemind, and Clear, late 90s feels, machines with emotions.

STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: The second vinyl reissue of a previously CD only release from Yasutaka Sato. Released in 1999 to a quiet but cult fanfare. I really like discogs user ubikman who said 'the spatial drift of Detroit techno soul glimpsed through shimmering curtains of zen-like ping and post-Blade Runner tableau. Like the first Virgo, an unheralded classic'.

Mozes Meijer

Virgo The Lo-Fi Prince Of The Universal Dancehall

The label say: "Experiments in electronic music out of Amsterdam's Ruigoord by this young upcoming producer Mozes Meijer. Ruigoord is a haven for free spirits just outside of the Amsterdam center where Meijer holds his studio in which he has been experimenting for years with all sorts of hardware. Our personal favorite on this EP is the "Honda Wanderer". Witness the birth of new and fresh ideas by this newcomer in the scene. Limited vinyl pressing to a few 100 copies."

A1 FORWARD
Was inspired by the revolution of the year of 1988 also referred to as the 2nd summer of love. Revolutions great and small are happening all around us all the time, and they take place in the minds of individuals.

A2 CHARANJIT DRIVE
Describes the revolution i 've got in mind, angelic bass-string harmonic notes flying left and right, Indian-vocals, sudden sped-up dancehall baselines and breaks. Imagine a hippie a homeboy and a funky dread, hugging and dancing and telling their mates how much they love each other in a nice green field while this plays.

B1 HONDA WANDERER
A man in a blue honda civic is traveling through a misty world at a high velocity. Seeking that which is just hiding behind the next bend. I made this after a beautiful misty, raining/sunshine rainbow ride on the autobahn. I had just picked up a cheap mutron bi-phase which was sitting beside me in the passenger seat. It was amazing.

B2 MISTY VALLEY
It's time to get a little bit serious, this one feels like the place where i made all of this music, the village of Ruigoord, covered in a thick winter fog. The remnants of a possible previous reincarnation of myself as an 80s new-beat producer are haunting this music.

all music & artwork by Mozes Meijer, mastering: Wouter Brandenburg, cut: Dubplates & Mastering a&r: Arne Cinema Royale Visser.

STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Nicely inventive EP from a fledging producer who's quite obviously intent on cutting his own path through the hedges of house music.
