Dream Me A Dream

Surreal folk banjo, violin, swirling organ paired with delicate analogue synths, Moog & electronic beauty. Tucker Zimmerman’s last studio album 'Dream Me A Dream' is full of soul, vulnerability and breathtaking atmospheres. It was completed in 2025 and features his wife Marie-Claire, award winning folk artist Jackie Oates and producer Nick Holton.

In October last year Tucker wrote some words about what the album was and how it all began- “...The Little Prince by way of the pen of Antoine de Saint Exupéry said ‘Draw me a sheep’ and I said to the the Little Prince ‘Dream me a dream’ overheard by Nick HOO (Big Potato Nick) who said ‘Record me a song’ so I recorded a song and then one or two more and just like that whip crack away and snap dragon fingers we had an album and just like that pump up the jambalaya and kick the chandelier Nick’s got the tracks mixed and mastered and pressed into 12” discs that say hallelujah and great balls of fire on the cover and that’s all I’m going to say about the outer wheels of this wagon as it rolls into your life the inner clockworks too intricate and deep to make language suffer so if you want more go to the Little Prince ask him to draw you a Dream of Now and Memory…” T. Zimmerman 14/10/25

Tucker embraced and re-discovered the electronica adventures of his younger self ('Over Here In Europe' & 'Words Games'). Some of these songs date back to the sixties but most were written while recording during two sessions in 2024/25. His performances of them, in his garden studio in rural Liege are exquisite. Tucker leapt into mixing up sparse banjo/violin/swirling organ arrangements on some tracks with orchestral Moog, analogue synths and processed piano backings on others. Musically, it is a wonderful departure in every sense. Tucker was in his eighties and this LP sounds like nothing else he recorded. 'Sun In Scorpio' is a deliberately delicate slow opener, creating beautiful spaces for gently plucked synths and melodic bursts. In contrast, the title track 'Dream Me a Dream’ - based on his poem from his first book When In Flows The Sea - is lovely intimate folk with plucked banjo, roomy backing and violin. Both these sound palettes are given room to open out on subsequent tracks via processed piano, Moog and wonderful orchestral analogue synth. The surreal spoken word sound-scape of Rooftops is based on a poem Tucker wrote aged 19. His voice sounds so powerful as he repeats the line “rooftops of San Francisco” over hypnotic Harmonia-like patterns until you are swept up in his visionary youthful dreams.

‘Rose Of Sharon' about the dark side of the hippie movement in California. Young girls being coerced by various cults. Recorded with both Tucker & Nick on the synths. It edges towards the psychedelic, almost Krautyrock style of HOO (Tucker’s sonic inspiration for the album) with Jackie Oates beautiful voice and violin raising the music skywards. Although frail when recording Tucker’s vocals are full of energy - it rocks!

I Wonder If I’ll Ever Come True - 2026 Repress

Never released before collection featuring Ian A Anderson & Maggie Holland recorded 72-80 is among Tucker’s finest - Free-ranging, Playful, Intimate - his Songpoet imagination unbound and in full bloom now on colour Vinyl for first time with (exclusive to this version) illustrated lyric insert with notes from Tucker.

Recorded between 1972-80 this is the first ever release for ‘I Wonder If I’ll Ever Come True’ a stunningly beautiful, homegrown collection by Songpoet Tucker Zimmerman and friends. The range and depth is astonishing. From the heady surreal journey of ‘It All Depends’ Upon the Pleasure Man’, to the uplifting Gene Clark-esque 'So It Goes’, to some of his most beautiful & touching love songs in ‘Let’s Start Over Again’ & ‘Song’. Only one song has seen the the light of day before now - ‘Taoist Tale’ from his 1984 album ‘Word Games’. This recording from a decade earlier loses no power in its folkier stripped down style driven by Tucker’s strong narrative. While living in bucolic seclusion in Belgium with Marie-Claire, Tucker invited visiting musicians (Derroll Adams, Wizz Jones, Maggie Holland, Dave Evans, Ian Anderson) into his home studio to play and live tape whatever songs he had at hand. Maggie Holland and Ian A Anderson feature, while Tucker found a freeing simplicity in just guitar, ’70s organ, bass and piano. We are so grateful to Ian A Anderson, who carefully kept and curated these recordings from 50 years ago. “Every time I would leave, Tucker would hand me another tape full of songs”. Ian worked with Tucker and ourselves to present this wonderful album. The collection is among Tucker’s finest - free-ranging, playful, intimate - his Songpoet imagination unbound and in full bloom. The ethos, the playing, the freedom, feels like Ronnie Lane’s time in the Welsh Borders. Unhurried, liberated, down-home and cosmic. Extraordinary music made among friends.

Tucker Zimmerman

Dance Of Love

Over a career that spans half a century, Zimmerman’s discography is a sonic memoir. A sprawling collection of records that have explored folk, 12-bar blues, full-band rock concertos and classical piano compositions, his work is also a tribute to the people, experiences and sounds that have shaped his life, amassing in a deeply personal and resonating songbook.

“After years of writing and filling a box with over 500 song sheets, I had finally found my path, my originality, my voice. It had become clear to me that songs of only one kind were worth spending time on: those which had a positive message and a peaceful vibration [...] Just poetry. Little hums that perhaps might lift us all above our daily worries and fears, little hums that try to make the world a better place to live in.” – Tucker Zimmerman

Despite sailing under the radar throughout most of his storied and multi-layered career, the 83-year-old native Californian has received praise from contemporaries like Big Thief’s Adrianne Lenker (“Tucker Zimmerman is one of the greatest songwriters of all time,”) and even from one of the greats (David Bowie called Zimmerman, “too qualified for folk.”). Inspired by Lenker’s appreciation for his work, Zimmerman was brought to the States to record the album, with Big Thief (and collaborators Mat Davidson and Zach Burba) serving as his backing band. On many tracks, Lenker meets Zimmerman half-way, their vocals fusing together in a soothing harmony; Zimmerman’s beloved wife, Marie-Claire, who graces the album’s cover also joined the chorus line.

With 'Dance Of Love', listeners will find a multi-faceted and heartfelt record from a songwriter who has had a full and exciting life decorated with meaningful friendships, hard but valuable lessons, worldly experience, and ultimately, lots of love.

STAFF COMMENTS

Barry says: Beautifully warm country-adjacent ballads and folky psychedelic rock that's so perfectly matched to the whole vibe of Big Thief, that their involvement doesn't surprise me in the slightest. Zimmerman's work is evocative and beautiful, and a perfect listen for any fans of Adrienne Lenker or Big Thief.
