TRACY ISLAND

Tracy Island announces Episode 2 of the 10 piece concept series with “The Unlimited”. This time the musical transmission comes from Beach Wizards, the secondary alias of the well renowned nautical collective, Seahawks; offering their particularly unique interpretation of Island life sonics. The release opens with the ever growing mood of “The Diamond Sea” - 18 minutes of bobbing, ocean crest disco; strings and stabs plus the odd tasty vox dotted with the intermittent ambience you'd associate with any Pete and John release. "Waves After Midnight" sees the coastal jubilation continue, as a tropical hook is busied along with rolling congas and tipsy rhythms that sway like a drunken sailor! The B side starts with the relaxed low slung grooves of "Lucky Dips", gentle wind chimes decorating sensuous bass and drum interplay as gliding fog horns blow in from the distance. Finally, Beach Wizards allow us some respite by the shore line, with nothing but the lapping waves as companionship. It's been another scintillating adventure by our trust sea-farers and comes highly endorsed by the Piccadilly fleet.

Matt says: Pete n Jon kick off another alias as the Beach Wizards deliver their opening mantra of relaxed vibes that gentle ride the crest of the ocean.

Japanese digger and editor extraordinaire, Wet Play favourite and possible future star of Coastin', Mori Ra's already made serious waves here on the Manc Riviera. Through a serious of exceptionally compiled edits, not to mention his infamous dub-plate only live shows (where he cuts his own dubplates for one-tour use, never seeing a proper release), the young star has wooed us through a plethora of various nuggets on a variety of different labels. Tracy Island is a concept representing the isolation and appeal of island life, contrasted with thought provoking and mesmerising melodies to draw us away from main land mentality, offering feelings of tranquility and wonder. "Wilderness" quickly gets us underway with a mid-tempo party track, synonymous of Mori's wild DJ style and swathed in hallucinatory good times. "Machinally City" chugs with a more industrial groove, delayed hand claps and rigged drums cementing an airy melody and a heavily gated, 80s aesthetic. "Candy Flow" turns his attention to floor filling soul music, a massive horn-led orchestral piece bursting out of the speaker stacks in Mori's flamboyant style. With a taste for the extravagant, no matter what genre or tempo, you could compare Mori to luminaries such as Ruf Dug or Jeremy Underground, uncovering party tracks from lesser excavated world sites and keeping the dancefloor alive in the process. Ace.

STAFF COMMENTS

Patrick says: If you caught Japan's cosmic kingpin on his UK tour last year you'll know exactly what to expect here. Dreamy synths, boogie grooves and jazzy melodies all drenched in the spangled psychedelia of your favourite lysergic treat. Killer!
