Green Milk From The Planet Orange

City Calls Revolution - 20th Anniversary Edition

City Calls Revolution is our second full-length album, created as we absorbed the new wave revival and math rock movements that emerged in the early to mid-2000s, while simultaneously reconstructing elements of classic progressive rock, hard rock, and experimental music in our own way.

The album strongly reflects the attitude we cultivated as a live band—deeply influenced by the American and Japanese bands we shared stages with at the time—and embodies the punk spirit that shaped us.

Recorded and mixed in March 2005 at Headgear Studio in Brooklyn, New York, by Paul Mahajan (known for his work with Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV on the Radio, and others), the album was originally released in May of the same year on both LP and CD by Beta-lactam Ring Records, then based in Portland, Oregon. Long out of print, it now returns two decades later as a newly remastered edition to be released by Riot Season Records in the UK.

In 2026, GREEN MILK FROM THE PLANET ORANGE celebrates its 25th anniversary—and also marks 10 years since Damo joined as our current bassist. It is a joy and an honor to have this album, filled with songs we still play live today, reissued in such a milestone year.

The Milk return with their most ambitious and cinematic record to date — Borderlands. Produced by drummer Mitch Ayling and recorded live at Woods Lodge Studio, the album showcases the four lifelong friends' signature blend of classic soul, modern funk, and widescreen orchestration.

Featuring singles "I Need Your Love", "A Time To Let Go", and "The Middle", Borderlands has already received extensive airplay and critical acclaim, including support from BBC Radio 6 Music (Huey Morgan, Lauren Laverne), Jazz FM, Radio 2, and Radio X. The band's previous album Favourite Worry was named BBC 6 Music's Album of the Year, and their debut Tales From The Thames Delta reached the UK Top 40 and earned them Apple iTunes Band of the Year.

Borderlands expands The Milk's trademark "cinematic soul" sound with sweeping strings, full brass, and choral arrangements — mastered on vintage analogue equipment by Lewis Durham (Kitty, Daisy & Lewis).

    The Milkshakes

    Fourteen Rhythm & Beat Greats

“From the opening rasp of “SEVEN DAYS” to the dying chimes of “WO’ NOW”, the frenzied beat goes on. Even the more subdued tracks are given that unmistakable MILKSHAKES brand, pointing to THE MILKSHAKES being the undeniable leaders of world beat!” It says here.Following on from the imaginary international success of their debut album “Talking Bout… “ and the 45 “It’s You” c/w “Please Don’t Tell My Baby”, the Milkshakes decided to squander what little money they had left on another long-player. The result was the cleverly-titled, if slightly boastful-sounding, “Fourteen Rhythm & Beat Greats”. Indeed, if you close your eyes and unplug the record-player, all 14 – count ’em (next time you open your peepers) – finely-crafted tunes on this LP could almost qualify as “great”, depending on where you stand, musically. I recommend just around the corner, out of earshot for best results.Featuring such live favourites as “Black Sails In The Moonlight” and Red Monkey”, the general consensus was that this was THE MILKSHAKES’ finest work to date (ask them yourselves). That must be partially true, as London’s prestigious Big Beat Records figured it was good enough to reissue on their very own prestigious Big Beat record label – twice. But that was 40-odd (yikes…!) years ago, so please try and control your excitement and form an orderly queue… although the sooner they sell out, it can be repressed – yet again – with the blue masthead. The Milkshakes

Milkshakes IV: The Men With The Golden Guitars

Having endured no less than three long-players and a brace of singles featuring the caterwauling of Messrs Hampshire and Childish, the Milkshakes’ audience figured it might be time for an instrumental outing. In response the group gave them just that. But this was to be no run-of-the-mill effort – no Dick Dale-esque surf marathons or Shadowsy twangers are apparent here. These tunes are more ‘rhythm-and-mood’-based compositions; occasionally leaning more towards the Link Wray end of the spectrum – as you would probably expect. This IVth album (hence the name) was recorded in 1983 at Oakwood Studios – as were all previous releases – but this was the first in their new facilities in a converted church near Canterbury, which opened up a whole new golden vista of shimmering, silvery sounds in atmospheric conditions. Of course, the Milkshakes were having none of that. We suggest you plonk the wax on your gramophone and let whatever happens happens. Hasty bananas.

Cobra And Phases Group Play Voltage In The Milky Night - 2025 Reissue

On February 28, 2025, Stereolab are making seven of their studio albums available again as 2LP editions. These utilise the same remasters as the 2019 expanded album editions, cut from the original 1/2" tapes by Bo Kondren at Calyx Mastering and overseen by Tim Gane, but without any of the bonus material from the 3LP versions (which have now been discontinued), the idea being to make more cost-effective versions of these sought-after titles available to fans and shops. Neutral Milk Hotel's In The Aeroplane Over The Sea - 33 1/3

Of all the recordings to emerge from the Athens-via-Denver collective called "Elephant 6", Neutral Milk Hotel's second album is the one that has worked its way under the most skins. "Magnet" magazine named it the best album of the 1990s, and "Creative Loafing" recently devoted a cover story to one fan's quest to understand why bandleader Jeff Mangum dropped out of sight soon after "Aeroplane's" release. The record sells steadily to an audience that finds it through word of mouth.

Weird, beautiful, absorbing, difficult, "In The Aeroplane Over the Sea" is a surrealist text loosely based on the life, suffering and reincarnation of Anne Frank, with guest appearances from a pair of Siamese twins menaced by the cold and carnivores, a two-headed boy bobbing in a jar, anthropomorphic vegetables and a variety of immature erotic horrors. Mangum sings his dreamlike narratives with a dreamer's intensity, his creaky, off key voice occasionally breaking as he struggles to complete each dense couplet. The music is like nothing else in the 90s Indie Underground a psychedelic brass band, its members self-taught, forging polychromatic washes of mood and tribute.

The songs stick to one narrow key, the images repeat and circle back, and to listen is to be absorbed into a singular, heart-rending vision.

            Hot Milk

            A Call To The Void

Manchester, UK - Hot Milk have announced their debut album 'A Call To The Void' on Music For Nations. For some, it might feel like a long time coming but Hot Milk always knew that when the time came to make their debut album, they had to be ready for it. It will be their loudest statement yet of who they are and what they stand for, an opportunity to show the world what they are made of. Tracks on the debut album walk on a tightrope between the humorous and the serious, brimming with what might be called positive nihilism. They’re not so much finding the light in the dark as they are laughing because if they don’t, they’ll cry.

With A Call To The Void, Hot Milk are set to launch themselves into the upper echelons of the British rock scene.

              Jen Cloher

I Am The River, The River Is Me

Jen Cloher is a songwriter and performer living on unceded Wurundjeri land in Naarm (Melbourne). Cloher’s taut, terse brand of rock is charged with the static tension that comes with being an eternal misfit; they have spoken truth to power with the shrewd eye that only an outsider can possess. Admirers have naturally gravitated towards Cloher’s incisive, generous songwriting. Over the course of five albums, they have won a J Award and an AIR Award and been nominated for an ARIA and the Australian Music Prize. This year Milk! Records, which Cloher founded in 2012 with Courtney Barnett, celebrates its tenth year of releasing music by artists such as Tiny Ruins, Hand Habits, Liz Stringer and Hachiku.

On their first album in five years, Cloher finally breathes out. I Am The River, The River Is Me, her fifth album, is verdant and rich; it luxuriates in stillness, and carries itself with cool, unfussy confidence. It suggests that home is not found in a place or a politic, but in the community you keep: Inspired by Cloher’s powerful matrilineal line of wāhine Māori, I Am The River, The River Is Me is not urgent, or hurried, but it is vital, made with the care and ease of someone who knows that their past began before birth, and will continue long after they’re gone.

I Am The River, The River Is Me is an album of remarkable generosity and grace. Recorded between Aotearoa (NZ) and Naarm (Melbourne) with producers Tom Healy (Tiny Ruins, Marlon Williams), Anika Ostendorf (Hachiku) and Cloher’s longtime drummer Jen Sholakis; the album brings in trailblazing artists including Emma Donovan (Gumbaynggirr, Yamatji), Kylie Auldist, Liz Stringer, Te Kaahu (Waikato-Tainui, Ngāti Tīpā), Ruby Solly (Kai Tahu, Waitaha, Kāti Māmoe) and members of the Naarm-based Kapa Haka, Te Hononga o ngā Iwi. The entire record feels communal — a celebration not just of Cloher, but of the rich, life-filled communities that surround them.

These are fiercely political songs that never feel heavy: They are energetic and full-blooded, alive with the knowledge that to simply exist — to scream and laugh and sing and make art — is as much a form of resistance as to fight.

Finding yourself, finding your home, is an unruly, never-ending process; I Am The River, The River Is Me is not a perfect self-portrait, and it possesses no universal truth about what it means to be Māori, or to be wahine toa (a strong woman), or to be takatāpui, or even to be Jen Cloher. Instead, it captures something else — a picture of humanity and community as a gorgeous, unfathomable mess. The joy of life, Cloher seems to say, is in forgiving your moments of weakness with grace, and embracing the parts of you that are unfinished. On “Aroha Mai, Aroha Atu”, they put it simply, and perfectly: “I may have come late, but better late than never.”

                Neutral Milk Hotel

The Collected Works Of Neutral Milk Hotel

The two full-length records that Jeff Mangum made as Neutral Milk Hotel sound both in and out of time. Like translations of a shared subconscious, 1996’s On Avery Island and 1998’s In the Aeroplane Over the Sea give voice to the perennial spirit of youthful epiphany, of beginning to see the world clearly, to process and express it—no matter when you encounter them. With lo-fi indie rock, accordion, singing saw, tape collages, the so-called “zanzithophone” and beyond, Neutral Milk Hotel created an eternal entry into their Elephant 6 scene and an enduring feeling of possibility. Mangum was born in the small city of Ruston, Louisiana, coming of age within the ’80s and ’90s indie and punk undergrounds, a movement of teenagers recording in their bedrooms, sharing zines and trading tapes, listening to hardcore and experimental music on college radio. For all the mythology Mangum’s elusive persona has accrued, it’s the beguiling songs themselves that have resonated so deeply for generations. In 2011, Mangum collected nearly all of the band’s recorded output in a limited-edition box set (self-released under Neutral Milk Hotel Records, a small operation helmed by Mangum and his mother) which is now being updated for wide reissue by the band’s longtime label Merge RecordsBlack matte box is a 2-piece telescoping casewrapped package.

Outer shrinkwrap includes a front sticker with “Neutral Milk Hotel,” and a back sticker listing box contents.

                  The Pearlfishers

Across The Milky Way - 2022 Reissue

Marina proudly present the first ever vinyl issues of three classic albums by Glasgow’s finest, The Pearlfishers: “The Young Picnickers” (1999), “Across The Milky Way” (2001) and “Up With The Larks” (2007).

Three albums of masterful, classic pop music, driven by main man David Scott’s exceptional songwriting which was often compared to Paul McCartney, Burt Bacharach, Jimmy Webb, Todd Rundgren and Brian Wilson. The beautifully crafted arrangements include woodwinds, trumpet, flugel horns, banjo – and real strings! “David Scott’s compositions sound something like The Carpenters and Burt Bacharach – except much more poppy, upbeat, and current!” (Babysue).

These albums also feature some of the finest Scottish musicians. Duglas T Stewart of BMX Bandits co-wrote two songs. Norman Blake of Teenage Fanclub contributed backing vocals on “The Young Picnickers” and co-produced four tracks on “Up With The Larks”. Mick Slaven, one of the most unique guitarists ever (Jazzateers, James Kirk, Paul Quinn & The Independent Group), plays on “Across The Milky Way”. So does trumpet maestro Colin Steele who later recorded an entire album of Pearlfishers songs in terrific jazz arrangements (“Diving For Pearls”, 2017).

                    Broadcast

                    Mother Is The Milky Way

Another wonderful tour-only oddity from Broadcast, issued finally on LP and CD. This one is from 2009 and sees the duo at their most experimental, resulting in some of their msot arresting moments, fractured wisps of melody wrought out of clattering breakbeats and woozy psychedelic swirls both distorted and monolithic. There is little argument from anyone that they were a talented pair, and though this takes a little getting used to, it's even more evidence that their innovative way of doing things resulted in the most sublime of results. Shadowy and percussive, deeply psychedelic and wonderfully weird.

                      STAFF COMMENTS

Barry says: I love broadcast, and I love the way they write music. It's never what you expect but it's ALWAYS worth listening to. This one from their 2009 tour is no different, and as a listening experience is both cathartic and richly rewarding. A weird and wonderful journey.

                        1. Losing Battles (acoustic) - Josh Ritter & The Milk Carton Kid

The husband-and-wife songwriting talents of Jeffrey Clarke (Demon’s Claws, Hellshovel) and Emily Frances give one the feeling that Milk Lines have been commissioned by time itself to build a dream-like bridge, so that reality might have the chance at a glimpse… Their wide range of influences and unique brand of music are organic, primitive yet thoughtful. The lo-fi, trippy and sometimes country-laced tunes display a fresh and original sound. After having played a few select events in the Montreal- Toronto area, Milk Lines were noticed by Toronto’s Fucked Up and asked to record their first and only release to date, the Crystal Crown single. The band has since been tapped by The King Khan & BBQ Show to support them on two of their US tours. In The Red is now proud to announce the release of the band’s debut full-length, 'Ceramic'.

                        Joanna Newsom

                        The Milk Eyed Mender

Joanna's music has more of an affinity with the folk revival of the 60s, or the bluegrass movement at present, than with most contemporary 'folk' (or 'anti-folk') scenes. Her harp arrangements are at times ethereal and delicate, at others galloping and ornate, but never overwrought.
