Wild Hunt

Recorded immediately following on from their truly epic European tour last Summer, ‘Wild Hunt’ by VEXX is a deliriously hot-wired mini-LP. Showcasing the band utterly consumed in the moment, these six tracks blaze with giddy abandon, raging mere heartbeats away from oblivion.

Recorded by Hayes & Sam at Dub Narcotic in Olympia, mastered by Golden Mastering. This LP is a one-time pressing (on black vinyl) in collaboration with our good friends at M’Lady’s Records, with incredible artwork drawn by Maryjane herself depicting the supernatural Wild Hunt in hot pursuit.

The cover art for 1st record Sacred Bones released depicted an androgynous wild banshee wearing warpaint, clad all in leather and animal bones, holding a sacrificial knife pointed at the sky. Our debut single was The Hunt's lone statement. The songs were a visceral pulsation, etched in echo. London, structure fires and mental institutions all played a part in the downfall of the originators of 21st century redskin darkwave. 2009. After multiple tumultuous attempts at recording a full length The Hunt decamped to their collective hometown, Boston, to record the ultimate document of their time on earth. This document sat for years, untouched by human hands. 2013. The Hunt lives on. In honor of both the first and one hundredth release, we will finally see and hear the toils of New York's most enigmatic post punk band of recent. Ian Danger, percussive wunderkind, Mike O'Brien, whose four strings drew blood nightly, Christian Kount, master of negative space and Jasper McGandy, the man who's hopes for a darker future led them towards a reality we only now have the honor of witnessing. After all these years the time has come. The Hunt Begins.

Jamie Morris of the 405 says 'The Horn The Hunt are better known as Clare Carter and Joseph Osborne, an electro pop duo located in Leeds. Raptor is the latest single, a prelude to their second album due to be released sometime in 2011 and is a well-crafted arrangement that twists and turns to create a funky haze of samples and loops. Driven forward by pounding, foot-tapping bass and wailing synths, Raptor is a poppier take on the burgeoning lo-fi electronic sound championed by bands such as The xx that can at times be waylaid and caught up in experimental showmanship. It’s insanely addictive but at the same time incredibly hard to articulate why. Whilst recognising that this might start to sound ridiculous and a tad contradictory, the best way to sum up this particular track would be to imagine lo-fi that you can dance to. B-side "Henry’s Out" is a similar but darker variation on this, again bass-driven but with a more traditional song structure; less samples and bleeps and more keyboards and guitars.'

    The Tallest Man On Earth

    The Wild Hunt

When fans lined up to see the sold-out Bon Iver performances at New York City's Town Hall in late 2008, few of them went with any expectations of the opening act. But the audience that night, and on every other night of Bon Iver's tour that December, were introduced to something special, something unforgettable: The Tallest Man on Earth. This was the first of several tours for the Tallest Man on Earth (aka Kristian Matsson), with obsessive crowds growing each step of the way.

It is impossible to discuss The Tallest Man on Earth's music without acknowledging Bob Dylan. The seemingly effortlessness, the melodic sensibility and the deft lyricism all recall Dylan's early years. But when you witness the Tallest Man on Earth perform live, you are watching a man possessed. The energy pours out with every word. Full of intensity and raw emotion, he paces the stage, bringing the audience into the palm of his hand, completely lost in his songs.

This brings us to the reason you are reading this. With unbridled excitement, we bring you The Tallest Man on Earth's second LP, "The Wild Hunt". It is all here: The words. The voice. The melodies. Ten perfect songs. "The Wild Hunt" picks up where "Shallow Grave" left off, with Matsson doing what he does best. It is unmistakably The Tallest Man on Earth, from the urgent strums of "You're Going Back" and the sweet melodies of "Love is All," to the playful lyricism of live favourite "King of Spain" and the subtle hook on "Burden of Tomorrow". "The Wild Hunt" isn't just another folk album; this is acoustic rock 'n' roll from a man with a story to tell.

      STAFF COMMENTS

Darryl says: Ace singer/songwriter with a desolate, stripped down acoustic Americana vibe that brings to mind early Dylan.
