Christmas

The Futureheads return with the best curveball of their 20+ year career with the announcement of their first ever album to beckon in the Yuletide season: Christmas - due for release on November 21st on Nul Records. Made up mostly of those Christmas classics that never get old - the album was recorded over 9 months in their hometown Sunderland. Ironically, most of the work was laid down amidst the increasingly common phenomenon of the Great British Heatwaves, which added another dimension to proceedings. In addition to the covers found here - all expertly re-imagined enough to make a statement and laden with The Futureheads infamous vocal harmonies and unique sound - they’ve also found the time to write and record an original song ‘The Coldest Winter in 100 Years’ and have also included a festive fan favourite from 2010 ‘Christmas was Better in the 80s’. (Word.) Christmas has been all arranged, recorded and produced by the band - Barry, Ross, Jaff and Dave. The album joins a long line of artists who have embraced the challenge of keeping Christmas cool - see Weezer, Sufjan Stevens, Bob Dylan, She & Him, Beach Boys and of course, James Brown, Frank & Bing (amongst notable others).

Decent Days & Nights: The Singles

Formed in Sunderland in 2000, The Futureheads spearheaded the UK’s post-punk revival with angular guitars, unconventional song structures and intricate four-part vocal harmonies.

The band’s debut album ‘The Futureheads’ (2004), which included their iconic cover of Kate Bush's ‘Hounds of Love’ (NME Single of the Year 2005), reached number 11 in the UK charts. Praise in 2006 was followed by extensive world touring and further albums; ‘This Is Not The World’ (2008), ‘The Chaos’ (2010) and a cappella album ‘Rant’ (2012) all on their own label, Nul Records.

After a hiatus, The Futureheads returned in 2019 with ‘Powers’ cementing their reputation as a band of joyous vitality.

        Powers

The North East indie post-punk band returned to their roots on recent single 'Jekyll', a biting, angular slice of guitar pop. Part of a broader full band project, The Futureheads have now detailed their first full electronic album in a decade.

New record 'Powers' lands on August 30th, with frontman Ross Millard commenting: “Obviously it’s an absolute privilege to come back and still have fans and that’s something to cherish but I also think we’ve got a bit of a job to do about letting people know that there’s more to this band than you might have thought.”
